Sro Lounge San Diego Reviews
We were in town for San Diego Pride and stopped in for cocktails. This is one of the oldest gay bars in San Diego and has a really fun old school vibe. The drinks are made well by the friendly bartenders. The prices are very reasonable too. We loved the way the bar was decorated and had fun! You really need to check it out.
Super fun and low key spot. Everyone there was so nice. I like the local vibe. I can’t remember the bartenders name but he was very easy to talk to and made really good drink! The prices are reasonable. Happy Hour from 2-7 def caught my eye. It was a decent walk from gas lamp but I made it work. It was worth going!
This is my club, whenever I am in San Diego! Great cocktails, fun and great owner and bartenders. Friday's they have a chicken buffet with salad. The bar is stocked with premium liquors. The serve my favorite vodka, Chòpin!
Nestled behind a nondescript and, honestly, intimidating entrance is this little gem. Good crowd, attentive staff and great cocktails in this unpretentious local bar.
Best Bar in Town Hands down. No Pretension. Just great friendly people. Strong drinks. Happy Hour food on Fridays.

Went there the other night and had a blast! Drinks were super strong so watch out if your driving! but other than that the people were amazing made some friends in a very diverse crowd of people. Also one patron had a little to much to drink and was making me and some others uncomfortable thankfully though the staff was very quick to respond and escorted them out of the building. 10/10 would go again!
Loved it! Great atmosphere, great bartenders making great drinks. Big mix of people having a great time and enjoying life. If you like pool, sign up and play with some of the regular patrons. We met some people from around the world, played pool, had lots of drinks and will be back the next time we visit San Diego!
Coming from out of town, finding a specifically Trans supporting place that was also just a bar was awesome. By just a bar I mean that it's a neighborhood dive, cheap decent drinks, anybody could be and is in there. No real demographic. Absolutely a comfortable vibe. Some obvious regulars were treated like Norm from Cheers. Love it, I'll be back.
Walking back into SRO after years away felt like slipping into a memory you did not realize you missed — a soft, familiar glow, the buzz of conversation, and the kind of warmth that settles into your shoulders the second you walk in. This isn’t just a neighborhood bar; it’s one of those rare community anchors where the energy feels lived-in, loved, and completely unfiltered. SRO has long been a haven for San Diego’s transgender and LGBTQ+ community. It’s the definition of a classic dive: no pretense, no attitude — just real people, real stories, and that easy, comfortable vibe you cannot manufacture. The pool league keeps things lively, the bartenders keep things relaxed, and the regulars create a sense of belonging that feels almost immediate. After working in another gay bar in this neighborhood for over two decades, returning to SRO was surreal in the best way — I recognized faces I hadn’t seen in years. That kind of continuity is rare. It tells you everything about the heart of this place: people come back, and they stay connected. If you’re looking for velvet ropes or curated aesthetics, this isn’t that bar. But if you want authenticity, comfort, laughter, and a place with a heartbeat — SRO is the kind of spot that becomes home without you even trying. Highly recommended, especially if you appreciate a bar with real soul.
Great lounge with a relaxed atmosphere and friendly service. Drinks are well-made, and the staff is attentive without being intrusive. A comfortable spot to unwind and enjoy a good evening. Definitely worth a visit.
This place is amazing. Been going there since 2013. It’s the most welcoming environment. Very 🏳️⚧️ AND 🏳️🌈 FRIENDLY. Both PEDRO & PEDRO, LAUR, LILY & SEBASTIAN are great hosts. Very delicious drinks at great prices. SEX ON THE BEACH= best drink on the menu (maybe I’m just being biased). Pool table in the back & a music box. HAPPY HOURS are great it you’re just trying to relax. Friday and Saturday nights are best to interact with a lot more people & make new friends. 10/10 (:
Omg where to start with sro 1st off best bartenders in sd every bartender has a amazing and different personality including Sebastian. Atmosphere is unmatched too i love the crowd and the people. I recommend it to everyone I know I love SRO!!!! Thank you Laur, Pedro and Pedro!!
Absolutely fantastic dive bar. The drinks are stiff and cheap, the bartenders are super cool and fun, and the vibe is almost always excellent! You will meet people of all different kinds here! Its the kind of place that you can become a regular at, and everyone is extremely welcoming and supportive. The atmosphere is something that you wont really find anywhere else in San Diego. Of course, because of this, the facilities and location are not the best. Parking is usually not a problem. If you like alternative lifestyles, this is the spot to be at.
Jason, the new white bartender, is absolutely gorgeous and sweet. It’s always a pleasure when he’s behind the bar. I just wish he worked more often! Whenever I see him there, I happily triple my tip—such a hottie and pleasant guy.
I am so happy that I found this lovely gem! It's perfect, not too big, not too small, super eclectic and friendly crowd, excellent drinks and music (both strong), has a pool table, too. The most fun I've had in a long time! Can't wait to return!
Some people call it a "dive bar." I call it my Dance Club. 💃😅. It's a hub for an eclectic mix of people -- gay, lesbian, straight, and trans -- who are warm and friendly. I've lived in NYC in Greenwich Village, and I've lived in San Francisco in the Castro, but this queer kid never felt more at home than at The SRO.

One detail that makes SRO shine even brighter: the front sidewalk space. It’s wide, open, and surprisingly comfortable — perfect for stepping outside with a cigarette or a vape while you ride that happy little buzz. It has that mellow “front porch” feel, where you can breathe, chat, look at the street, or just enjoy the night air without feeling crowded or rushed. We stop by here whenever in town. Service is always great. Our bartender, Chris?, made great drinks, and cute too! The people that come here are nice. Unfortunately, there was a bad smell in the place this time. Maybe this will get fixed soon. We'll try back again
Drinks were generous, but this place was loud and awkward. Not really a lounge.
