Came here on a whim. I'm glad I did. I love Dive bars. Cheap and tasty drinks and a decent menu where the kitchen is open until 12am. Plenty of seating an no cover charge. They have a pool table and televisions (For sports viewing). Not quite rowdy crowd and the bartenders are pleasant. All are welcome!

Obviously a dive bar. But people are super chill. And the food was amazing. Incredible.

Great vibe! Not for everyone. But I loved it.

Beer is good but I left my backpack there and called. They found it and held it for me. Good to have some straight laced people around that'll do that. Very nice folks!

The loaded potato skins are super good. Ordering from outside window on the street is kind of weird though.

There's something that is driving the Boomers crazy about the current generation of young people. Boomers get crazy about the casualness that servers exhibit while performing their tasks . This new generation of hip that converses and move slowly while getting your cocktail up makes this intentional dive bar current and cool. If you're over 60 and unfamiliar with "what's happening now," try to keep a sense of humor when you check out your attitude as you wait. By the way, my cocktail was worth the wait.

Tempest Bar & Box Kitchen – Review: Tempest Bar & Box Kitchen is a lively spot known for its vibrant atmosphere, creative cocktails, and sports-friendly setup. The menu features elevated bar food like loaded fries, burgers, wings, and shareable plates, often with a bold twist. Guests appreciate the upbeat vibe, fast service, and multiple screens showing live sports. It’s a great hangout for groups, game nights, or casual weekend outings. Good for those looking for energy, flavor, and fun under one roof.

Solid dive bar that checks all the boxes: pool table, graffiti, stickers on the walls, dark corners, interesting patrons and a jukebox that cranked metal. Surprising they had a solid kitchen with elevated variations of traditional bar food offerings

One of my favorite bars in San Francisco. There are no equivalents, a destination. Food is excellent, booze is top shelf and the atmosphere is pure dive.

One of the best burgers in the city, good fried things too. Order at the door then grab a cheap drink at Tempest, which lives up to its name in the best ways. There's always a broad cross section of people, sports heads, business visitors, queer folks, and neighbors swirling. Good food, good vibes.

If you like dive bars with good bar snacks (fried pickles being my favorite) a nice selection of beer with friendly staff and dog friendly, then you'll like it here. It's tucked away in quiet little side street but still busy. Monday night bingo is a fun diversion for a couple of hours starting at 6 or 7pm. It's close to the Metreon movie theater so I'll stop in here before or after a movie to grab my new favorite snack that I mentioned above and a cold beer.

This is a dive bar’s dive bar—the kind of place that smells like beer and stories. Even if you think it’s not your vibe, go once for the people-watching alone. It’s a wild mix of locals, tourists, wealthy eccentrics, and people who may or may not live there. The pool table’s the main attraction, cold beer flows, tunes are solid. Don’t eat beforehand—there’s a magical hole-in-the-wall kitchen next door and you can bring the food in. No frills, no fuss, just absolute peak San Francisco madness. I loved it.

I was there today with some friends over a late lunch and I loved it. The yummiest burger ever! The size is totally insane and the flavor is soo good. I had it with an extra egg, omg! Glorious 😍😍 our server seemed to be alone today at the bar but he did amazing, super polite, attentive, made sure we had our waters and anything we needed. 10 out of 10 Thank you!!!

You might not be able to tell from the picture, but this burger is THICK, I get told I have a big mouth but it can barely fit around this burger. The best part is the burgers flavors make it taste refreshing. Definitely a must try if you haven’t been here before!

Cool bar. Nice vibe. Very friendly bar staff. Take care to remember ID for the doorman. Food is supplied by a sort of pop up place outside the premises, and is really good quality, and you have to actually leave the building to place the order. Trouble is you could easily have come in earlier with your colleagues for beers, before the doorman had started work, popped out later to order food, only to find the doorman now wants to see ID. Would be a shame to have to break up the party so unceremoniously!

Cool local dive bar in SoMa with amazing food! I came here for the first time and I love the vibe of this dive bar. Bikes on the ceilings, World Series Jerseys on the walls, and stickers plastered all over the restroom. What I loved most was the food!! I got the Box Burger during my lunch break and added an egg on top. Perfect brunch food for what it’s worth. Then I added a “Donkey Show” special to the mix: Modelo beer with a shot of Milagro Tequila. What a way to start my day! The staff were also super nice and gave me the best recommendations on what to order. Shout out to Levi behind the bar and Joey the owner! Made my first impression a memorable one. You gotta check it out.

Friendly and welcoming staff here. You have a nice selection of draft beers, 12 oz pours. Is there undergoing some changes in the kitchen so extremely limited menu; french fries grilled cheese chicken fingers that's about it. This place is very noisy and no sound on the NFL game

The potato skins were incredible, and the tacos al pastor were a big hit with my table as well. Large selection of booze and beer on the wall, pool tables if you want to play, and TVs for sports on the bar wall. Staff was super friendly and helpful as well!

I came here with a friend around 930pm on a Monday night, pleased to see the bar and kitchen still in full swing. The decor is very drive reminiscent, but the food felt a little elevated from that. I had a beef roll with chopped giardiniera and some other goodies. It's was a little wet but really tasty. I also had a few local beers and one of their radler&shot combos. The bartenders were attentive and nice, and the other patrons were lively and interesting to watch. We had a great time and would definitely be back.

Did go twice for the margaritas but only liked them from a specific bartender (In the pic, the guy way to the right pouring one). The food was good and you can order at the bar, or takeout only - no table service. Kinda hit or miss on the crowd/ vibe which is typical for a bar I suppose!

Update March 2022: Decided to come here again. The service is really friendly and efficient and they've got some good beers/ciders on tap. The food was slightly better this time, likely because we ate there instead of taking it to go. Their mini corn dogs and mac and cheese egg rolls are pretty good. I was surprised to get only 4 mini corn dogs for $10 - that seemed pretty overpriced to me. Original: Meh - this used to be a coveted spot of mine, but it seems to have gone downhill. Got this chicken sandwich the other day, and the one leaf of lettuce was left to wilt and become disgusting. The soggy bun only had sesame seeds on one side? The chicken was also soggy and gross. Plus, not their fault and aside from the rating - this neighborhood is atrocious. I've lived here for a year and it's been a nightmare. Just walking the 2 blocks to come here scares me. Probably just take your money somewhere else and have a better time.

This place is trash and the bartender on a saturday night was a total zero. For some reason, when members of our group (five people) started opening different tabs to buy rounds, he freaked out. He asked why we didn't close out the two open tabs before starting a third one. He said we could only have one tab open at a time. We very politely explained that we all wanted to pay for some drinks instead of splitting it up at the end of the night. He insisted that we were no longer welcome and that we leave the bar. We did so, without hesitation, because this place absolutely stinks.

I would never come back here again place is dirty , greasy and questionable characters left and right, a cocktail cost on avage 18-20 $ served in an incorrect vessel... I got harassed by the bouncer and will never come here or recommend this business to any friends in SF or the Bay Area.
