I came here a few years back and was craving a milk bread sando so I stopped by today and got the egg salad and my bf got the chicken katsu. Both 10/10 bread, flavor etc! This is also a family business with really kind people running it. I was honestly shocked it wasn’t busier, def a hidden gem. People complain abt the prices but this is San Francisco and they are serving artisanal quality sandwiches.. will definitely return next time I’m in the area

Yummy sandwiches in a sweet tiny storefront. Loved the egg salad and the katsu.

Stopped by for lunch around 12PM with no line. Got 3 sandwiches, the egg salad, tonkatsu, and the strawberry choux sandwich. We got takeout since there isn't space to eat inside. The egg salad was great! Wasn't super mayo heavy and tasted light. The bread is super thick and soft. The tonkatsu had two pork chops with sauce and mayo and some cabbage. Definitely the most rich and left us feeling full. The strawberry choux was amazing! Not too sweet and really nicely sized strawberries. Regarding price, these are just SF prices but I will say that the sandwiches were larger than expected so I would say they are quite filling for the price. They were packed really well! Would be great for a picnic.

The chicken katsu sandwich was excellent. It's served on very thick Japanese milk bread. I got this and the strawberry choux then drove 5 minutes to Baker Beach to eat them. I would eat here again.

Very cute little hole in the wall. Every time I'm in SF I always find hidden gems like this place, and I can only say wow. The chicken katsu sando is DELICIOUS and with very kind staff. This place is worth going to and I will happily be back again. Thank you

Delicious chicken katsu sandwich and very soft bread. Place doesn’t have seating, though there’s a counter to stand and eat.

I raved about the braised pork sandwich last time. Get it. I swear. I got the house salad, no additions, and it is bright, exiting, fresh, and enough to leave some for later, if you don't have to leave it in hot car. The matcha lattes are yummy, especially the strawberry, but it was so hot today that I went with a sparkler, and it was a choice well made. Kindof pricey for an average lunch break but if youre in the area and want to bring someone somewhere fun and quirky, I definitely recommend Bread n' Chu. Downside: takeout only, so there isn't any seating while you wait, which would be totally fine and cool, except that the store front gets full sun and the only shade is around the corner. Maybe a small intercom install would be a good idea, so she can call your number over the intercom while you're standing around the corner in the shade.

Amazing food and service. Sandwiches are worth the price compared to most places in SF. Definitely recommend the Chicken Katsu but unfortunately I cannot provide the picture as I devoured it along with the box

Super yummy japanese-style sandos! I loved how soft and fluffy the bread was, and the egg salad sandwich was so umami and delicious. We also tried the tonkatsu sandwich and the cheese korokke curry sandwich, which were both amazing as well. Really recommend for a nice day in the park or Land’s End!

Very good milkbread sandwiches, very delicious but slightly on the expensive side.... but worth every penny as a special treat!

Came across this on a bike ride and loved the catchy red exterior! The branding with the pig is super cute. The sandos are THICC though it's more bread than filling. No indoor or outdoor seating. Everything is to-go. I got the Tonkatsu which was pretty solid. Crispy and the katsu and kewpie mayo mix was good. They use very soft Japanese milk bread. Would try the unagi next time though it's pretty expensive. Sandos usually are quite cheap in Asia so this was a surprise but I guess it's SF ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Idea is simple, but I can't say I've had this style of sandwich anywhere else. Had the chashu sandwich and they really stuff the sandwich up with meat. It also paired really well with the two thick slices and soft milk bread. Overall, the sandwich is pretty good, but I don't think I could justify paying around $18 just for some meat between two slices of bread again.

At first it may seem a bit pricey for a sandwich, but you're getting a meal for sure. They give a good portion and the bread is dense and soft. Really lovely textures and presentation was great, with the edible flower petals and cute paper. Other options looked good too. I did have a little raw flour chunk in the bread but nothing too crazy. Overall would recommend.

I know you don’t come here for the coffee but…they sell Ritual coffee at the usual $5 price point you would expect at a boutique coffee shop, but it’s just the coffee grinds brewed in a coffee pot. Honestly, it tasted gas station coffee, not what you would expect for a cup of Ritual coffee, and especially at that price point I’m sure the food is good, but skip the coffee. I am a very sad coffee drinker right now 😂

This is a nice cozy spot. The pricesbfor the meal are steep. I had the tonkatsu sandwich, it was not bad. The fried batter was nice and crispy but the meat was average quality. The bread was soft and chewy. Also had the strawberry sandwich. The cream was more of a custard. I didn't think the strawberry sandwich was worth trying.

Pretty good, but insanely overpriced. I get that it's SF, but $40+ for two sandwiches and a tea is outlandish.

This place is small and doesn't have a sitting area. It's just intended for you to order and go. I don't understand the hype about this place. The sandwiches are small and very thick at the same time. Everything falls apart so its kind of difficult to eat. The flavor was ok, i didn't hated the sandwich but there was nothing impressive. Overall I feel that the price is too high and the product is not worth it.

The bread is very fluffy but the sandwhich itself was very dry. It was literally just the dry char sui, with undressed shredded cabbage and bread. No sauce or spread. Way over priced for what it was.

Went in for a cup of coffee midday. $5.50 for a cup of stale tasting coffee. I don’t ever need to go back there.
