Catch San Francisco Reviews
I loved our dinner!!!! Service was on point, very slow Monday night but it was lovely. Wine was great, they had a good selection. Food was delicious! we had the baked brie and calamari to start, rainbow trout, short ribs and Shrimp Pastis, and to finish Creme brûlée and a delicious cake!!!!!! Would absolutely come back
Amazing lil find.. great Service , very attentive. To die for Baked Brie , amazing red beet - feta salad & a very juicy tender New York .. loved my jalepeno margaritas.. i definitely recommend this bistro ..
Wow!! What can I say except Wow!! The French Onion soup was perfect. Oh Oh Oh, The Baked Brie was Absolutely Delicious!! My husband ordered Le Sage ( a chicken dish w/ mushrooms, with an amazing sauce ) He loved it & I ordered the Beef Bourguignon, ( what can I say but, Yum!!!
The food I had delivered from here was a bit pricey but oh so good. The chicken with mushrooms and beans was delicious and really hit the spot. I highly recommend people try this place out and i garentee you will be very impressed by the food here. I give them 5 stars ⭐️.
I am so delighted that this restaurant has taken over the Catch restaurant that was there before. I love that it still looks the same way. I love the look the restaurant and the open space in the front with a fire pit. I had the seafood chowder and the Croque Monsieur. My husband had the burger with bleu cheese and enjoyed it - great fries. The French Onion soup needed more seasoning but was good. Prices are a bit high, but what else is new?!?!? The dessert was a crepe that I fully enjoyed. The best pick for 4th of July. I will be coming back.
I had small dinner and will definitely go back. Cod was delicious, I would like it little less rare but flaky. Unintentionally ordered meatballs, it was good. Update: Amazing experience. Artichoke was one of the best I have ever tried. Didn't touch the white sauce at all. It's butter/lemon sauce is so good. Mix fish grill had salmon, tuna, and mahi mahi. All very fresh. Very well cooked. Risotto under it was surprisingly flavorful too Brulee was too sweet for me, but I liked it. Update: so sad to hear Catch would be closing permanently. Will miss it a lot.
The service was quick, friendly and efficient. I really enjoyed the Seafood Cioppino. The Ceasar salad was also very good. I also tasted the Beef Bourguignon and it was excellent. I really enjoyed this place, I feel it's better than most similarly priced French Restaurants in SF.
Catch French Bistro in San Francisco truly impressed with its salmon risotto. The dish was a creamy masterpiece, with perfectly cooked grains and succulent salmon that flaked beautifully. Each bite was rich with flavor, striking a wonderful balance that wasn't too heavy. As a beloved neighborhood institution, Catch consistently delivers, making this risotto a definite highlight and a must-try if you visit!
No need to endure the waterfront mobs to get an exceptional seafood experience. Catch in the Castro is phenomenal. The ambiance is beautiful, the waitstaff excellent, & all of our dishes were expertly prepared, seasoned, & plated. Easily one of our best dining experiences during our 5 day vist.
The oysters are good (they put them under the arugulas so it is a bit hard to see from pictures) The escargots are so-so…
Went here for a date night and was very pleased with everything. The muscles had the most amazing coconut broth that I couldn’t get enough of, the tuna and salmon were cooked perfectly, and the oysters were absolutely delicious and fresh! The cocktails were wonderfully balanced and the service was great! Would recommend and will be coming back!
We found this awesome place to eat before headed to the airport in San francisco. The ambience was fantastic and the food was wonderful. They put together the special combination for me and I absolutely loved it. But when I saw the fish and chip served to another table I drooled. I think I'll be trying that on my next visit.
Let me start by saying this was the BEST clam chowder I have ever had! Hearty and delicious are the words I would use for the starter and the entree that I had. Seafood stew and fish trio were amazingly fresh and tasty.
I visit the Castro from NOLA several times a year and this is the first place I go as soon as I arrive! The Salmon BLT is the most AMAZINGLY DELICIOUS sandwich I have ever had. I eat there every single day when in town. Lovely atmosphere and wonderful service! I tell everyone about this restaurant and the Salmon BLT! There is NOTHING better!!! UPDATE 2024: So excited that the new owner/chef kept the Salmon Sandwich on the menu!! You can add bacon! STILL my FAVE!!!!!! 🙌🏼💕🙌🏼💕🙌🏼💕🙌🏼 Love the new decor too!!! 😍
Everything we ordered at Catch was excellent! It can be difficult to have a late night dinner in San Francisco without making reservations, but this restaurant is sized well and we were able to get in. Manhattan was actually quite perfect, I find this simple drink can easily be prepared wrong. cioppino has just a subtle hint of spicy and was chock-full of seafood. The brussel sprouts were perfectly prepared, crunchy on the outside and very flavorful. The striped bass was served over a risotto cake that had been perfectly fried. It was not at all greasy and the texture inside was very satisfying. The fish was perfectly prepared. I enjoyed the amount of peas, and the amount of sauce. The peas lent sweetness and there was also a good balance of acidity in this dish. I highly recommend it! They have a piano player tucked up aboveand I really enjoyed this aspect at the restaurant as well. Being from Kansas City, I expected my meal at Catch to be much more expensive than it was. The perfect dining experience and the perfect price point equals a 5-star review from me. The entrance is narrow for wheelchairs, as is the hallway to the restrooms.
Located in the LGBT section of San Francisco this is a very nice place to stop and eat. They have a mostly sea food menu. This is one of the only places in the country you can see parts of the Quilt project. It is an amazing piece of history. This along with the area around it is one that a person visiting San Francisco should definitely check out.

First time eating here. People were lovely and attentive. The food was fresh on a sunny Sunday afternoon. Couldn't be better. Please check them out if you are in the area.
Catch is back and better than ever! Had a delicious brunch—frito misto was delicious. Efficient and friendly service. Front terrace is lovely on a sunny day.
It's not as good as its predecessor but still a good spot for dining out. Fun, modern atmosphere with live pianist/singer makes you feel like you're in a swanky supper club. Mushroom ravioli and clam chowder were excellent appetizers, with the latter chock fill of fresh clams in their shell. Calamari was also great, large enough for 2 or 3 to share! Braised short ribs were tender and flavorful. Salmon was also moist and delicious. The cassoulet was more of a stew, with too much sausage, not enough duck. The seafood on the mixed grill wasn't seasoned at all. But the molten chocolate cake was a great way to end an overall very pleasant dinner.

Actually a really good little seafood restaurant! Wasnt busy at all when we were there, Lobster Ravioli was just what I needed.
Solid spot for seafood. We went during brunch on a Sunday and was not crowded, so I don’t expect there to be waits during this time. The prices on the menu were a bit higher ) than what was posted online (specifically the oysters which were listed at $2.50 but turned out to be $3.25, so that was a bit of a disappointment. Nonetheless, the food was pretty decent and it was an enjoyable meal. Because it wasn’t crowded, it also wasn’t loud, and we did not feel rushed.
Nestled in the heart of San Francisco, Catch French Bistro is a delightful gem that effortlessly blends charm, flavor, and hospitality. From the moment you step inside, the decor and atmosphere captivate you—think classic French elegance with a modern twist, warm lighting, and an inviting ambiance that makes you feel both relaxed and sophisticated. It’s the kind of place where you could linger over a meal for hours without realizing it. The wait staff elevate the experience even further. Their friendliness and attentiveness strike the perfect balance—never overbearing, always genuine—making you feel like a welcomed regular, even on your first visit. Now, onto the food, which is where Catch French Bistro truly shines. The beets salad is a vibrant starter, bursting with earthy sweetness and a harmonious blend of textures that awaken the palate. The duck leg, tender and succulent, is a standout, its rich flavor complemented by flawless seasoning and preparation. And then there’s La Marmite—a hearty, soul-warming dish that feels like a hug in a bowl, packed with depth and taste that lingers long after the last bite. To wash it all down, the Fraise Mojito is nothing short of perfection. It strikes an impeccable balance with just the right amount of tangy zest, refreshing and bright, making it an ideal companion to the meal. Catch French Bistro is a must-visit for anyone craving an authentic yet approachable French dining experience in San Francisco. With its stellar atmosphere, friendly service, and a menu that delivers on every promise, it’s a spot that leaves you eager to return.

It's sad, but there are too many mediocre restaurants in SF. Catch is consistently one of them. They have a great location and it wouldn't seem too difficult to offer food that's at least a notch above, but they remain mediocre because they are not challenged and options are limited in the neighborhood (and they have a full bar). Sure the chef taste the food (he seems to spend a lot of time in the front of house). After several visits, I can say the French Onion Soup is not seasoned to the point it's not worth eating. The steak is hit or miss, but basic. And the fries are limp. The molten cake? Cold to the touch. All I can say is anyone who gets into the restaurant business should have a passion for the food. If the food is good, business will always be steady and customers will be loyalty and visit frequently. If purveyors don't bother to improve when they get business by virtue of location only, eventually, another restaurant will literally eat they biz. Catch fails to deliver a meal worth recommending.
