Loved the food and cozy vibe. Service was friendly, Definitely a nice spot to grab a meal.
What a wonderful dinner we had! There weren’t many vegetarian options but there were enough for a fabulous dinner. We had the empanadas to start- filled with potatoes and drizzled with a yummy sauce- and a very lightly dressed small salad on the side was a nice surprise. They were Delicious. Then we went with a salad with orange slices and more. This was a very good sized salad and tasty too. Finally we shared the vegan lasagna. With fresh basil and a light tomato sauce, the flavors popped. The noodles on the bottom were firm and the vegan cheese did not over power. The fresh veggies in it were really good too. Splitting the 3 dishes was just about the right amount of food and every thing we had was wonderful. The service was great as well. Everyone was friendly and nice, but also gave us our space. The great thing is that they didn’t bombard us with everything all at once. They timed it perfectly so we could relax and enjoy the meal. We’ll be back soon I hope. I didn’t get to try the strawberry dessert and it sounded really good.
The staff was super friendly. The space was beautiful with heaters for each table in the outdoor patio, a mini rainforest in the middle of the patio with blossoming flowers and fruits and the sound of a flowing waterfall. The food was AMAZING! The vegan lasagna is the best thing my taste buds have tasted. It was so good I needed to buy a second one to take home (which I’ve never done). I would eat here everyday if I could. New favorite restaurant!
Okay, so lets start with the food - delicious vegan options? Kinda wild but they got it The biscuits and gravy was delicious, they gave me some house hot sauce, which was a good touch! Expect SF pricing, the meal is gonna be over $20 a person. Service was great, the staff was really sweet and got us a table quickly, had a reservation, very quick set up on Google maps. The backyard patio was so damn cute, good amount of seating, lots of space between people, tons of greenery to set the mood, all around a great spot for a brunch or lunch date!
Had one of our best Brunch experiences here in early June. We were starting our road trip here and needed a great start. This was just the perfect place. We really loved their patio seating area. Ordered the Brunch Sangria Carafe and it was just right 👌 We also had their: • Biscuit & Gravy • Cobb Salad The service was great and the value for the portion. Keeping this place pinned in our maps for future visits. 📍🗺️
My wife and I held our reception brunch here after our civil ceremony at City Hall, and it was the PERFECT location. The food was amazing, the staff were so kind and worked with us to make sure everything was set up and executed perfectly, and the garden patio was so beautiful. This was the best decision we could have made.
We recently held a private event at Fable, and it was absolutely amazing. The food was delicious, with varied and tasty appetizers and fresh, flavorful main dishes. The environment was wonderful, making it a perfect place for a private party. Every single staff member we interacted with was pleasant, knowledgeable, and fun. They genuinely seemed to enjoy their jobs, which added to the overall positive experience. I can't say enough good things about this restaurant, and I will absolutely return if I have the chance.
Classic Castro with a Garden Feel and spacious separation between tables. Excellent food, staff/service and atmosphere. Came in to celebrate my daughter's Bday and it was perfect. Wonderful staff, amazing food with spot on presentations, extensive wine/drink list and yummy desserts. Dog friendly and our fabulous waitress found some great bones for our boys to chew on during dinner. Metered street parking available in front with free areas around the corner a block and a half away. Highly recommended and worth a trip into the City especially for special occasions.....bon Appétit
Was visiting San Francisco and decide to stop by here for the dinner. Please make advance reservations here as the place gets really full. I got the table in the back Patio. It was a lovely ambience. Literally very soothing, calm, beautiful setup of the patio. Ordered Vegan Lasagna, Sandwich and Tea. Everything served was nicely cooked, tasted delicious and the servings were fulfilling. The server did mess up the Tea order which he replaced and served another one as soon as they were requested. Overall, its a nice place to go for hangout and dinners. Its a bit pricey but they do serve you the best they could
Amazing and quick service. Great value and beautiful outdoor dining. I came on a Sunday for brunch and it was very busy. The service was still quick and very attentive. It was very rainy but the outdoor patio is very well built. I really enjoyed the coziness of eating here. I ordered the following: fried chicken sandwich (so crunchy, Ask for the amazing hot sauce!)house made ricotta omelette (so fluffy) with bacon, and red quinoa brunch bowl. All were delicious.
It’s a beautiful restaurant - surrounded by plants, we had a good brunch there. The omelette was great, and the potatoes on the side were also amazing. Crab cakes were very delicious as well. Not very many coffee choices. Overall a good dining experience!
Our experience at Fable was like a fairytale (except without the bad bits that generally attend fairytales). The staff were FUNNY and extremely helpful, and the food was so unbelievably good. Get your mind blown by the delicious fondue, the incredible vegetable lasagne, amazing crab cakes, hearty Mac and cheese, and I don’t remember what the other wild food was but there’s a photo and I loved it. So full by the time I left, but SO worth it. Love love love.
Fantastic brunch in a stunning outdoor garden patio! I made a reservation on Opentable on a Saturday at 11am. I ordered the spring vegetable omelet and a sangria and my friend ordered the red quinoa brunch bowl with poached egg and avocado. FYI the quinoa bowl is gluten and dairy free. Service was very quick and our food and drinks arrived within maybe 20 mins of sitting down. Everything was delicious!! Will definitely be back.
I recently visited Fable and ordered their Baja Style Fish Tacos with plant-based Impact Tuna and was completely blown away! Firstly, the presentation of the tacos was impeccable. The vibrant colors of the Impact Tuna, paired with fresh and crunchy slaw, was absolutely gorgeous. The tacos were topped with pickled onions and microgreens, adding a delightful contrast in texture and flavor. The Impact Tuna itself was outstanding. It had an umami flavor and buttery texture that were indistinguishable from animal tuna. The accompanying avocado mousse sauce was the perfect complement, enhancing the overall taste without overpowering the delicate flavors of the plant-based tuna. The tortillas were fresh and soft, holding everything together beautifully. Additionally, the side salad provided a refreshing balance to the meal, making it a well-rounded and satisfying experience. Overall, Fable's innovative use of Impact Tuna in their Baja Style Fish Tacos definitely showcases their commitment to delicious and sustainable dining options. Whether you're plant-based or simply looking to try something new, these tacos are a must-try! Along with all the other delicious dishes - like the nicoise salad (which you can sub to be plant-based with no extra charge!)
We went to Fable for the first time this evening. The outdoor atmosphere was wonderful. Dylan was our server and he was charming and knowledgeable of the menu. We began with the empanadas which were flavorful. I had the sole special and my husband had the pork shank. Both were cooked well and were delicious. We will be back.
The first thing that is obviously stands out is the setting in the back patio, a gems in the city on the aspect in itself for sure! Then the service was really good (friendly and detailed) and the food a delish: we have the melon/prosciutto salad, vegan lasagna, fish dish and strawberry shortcake, all really good... we will be back !
Sammy and Wine 🥪 🍷 On my day trip to The Castro area of SF, we started with a small bite and afternoon splash. Waitress was helpful in picking best of the sandwiches (her favorite was the turkey). Perfect focaccia bread, toasted turkey, meaty cheese, smooth avocado paired the Sammy with a bottom of white wine and could not be happier. We got sat in the back courtyard and let me tell you about serene. It was cozy with an open roof to the sky. Beautiful. Will be back for lunch again tomorrow
Great vibe, great food, and loved sitting out on the patio. They even had little pumpkins on every table! We went for brunch on a weekend and it wasn't super busy. I got the eggs Benedict which was very good!
I ordered the special plant-based Impact Tuna tartare and it honestly blew my mind. I'm vegan so I was really excited to even have a tartare option, and Fable did such a good job with the sauce and the yummy crunchy chips. I hope it becomes a permanent item so that I can order it next time too! I also ordered the sorbet for dessert which I learned they make in house (coconut, mango and guava) and I wish I could just have that in my freezer, it was delicious.
I was very pleasantly suprised with my last visit at Fable. They have great service and an awesome patio space, but I loved their initiative to include more plant-forward and vegan options in their menú. Specifically, I tried their tartar dish made with vegan tuna - I think they called it Impact Food tuna? and it blew my mind!! I haven't tried such a good vegan tartar in a long time!
This hole in the wall was great for brunch! Able to walk in and get a seat immediately, I recommend the patio if available.
Came here on Wednesday night for dinner. The garden in the back dinning area was booked by a private party, but there were tables available at the parklet with heat lamps. The view from the parklet is great. I could see the Castro Theater from where I was sitting. I like the simple menu at this restaurant. Service was good. We ordered mussels, which were clean and big. They came with this really tasty sauce with sausage, which was perfect for dipping the nicely toasted focaccia bread into. The pork chop that I ordered was nice and thick and perfectly cooked, and was served with fried onion rings and rainbow chard.
We love this place so much. Always great service, DELICIOUS food and the atmosphere on the back patio is just dreamy. We were a larger group this time for a birthday and our server (we have had her before) was so kind, friendly and funny too! Can’t wait to go back again.
Service was on point and the food was delicious! We came several times for brunch before but this was the first time for dinner and it was romantic and delicious. :) Ceasar salad, pork cheek salad, pork chop, lamb shank, and Mac and cheese were all winners.
Fable is like a well-oiled machine, when I want a sweet, little restaurant getaway that feels like home away from home, I go to Fable! The food is deliciously consistent and more healthy than not. The staff are attentive but not up in your grill and if you’re lucky enough to get a patio table for your weekend brunch, the delightful ambiance brings it all together and why Fable is one of my favorite places in the City!
Outdoor dining been waiting for. Definitely pretty hidden gem in Castro. Cute patio and friendly servers. Was good to see them reopening after lock down! The food was good too, we had cheeseburger, lasagna, salmon and pork chop. Pork chop and lasagna were so delicious! Recommend that dish.
Inexpensive. Great service. Tasty food. So popular. If you want to sit inside the garden make sure you make a reservation and pick "garden dining".
Has been and will continue to be one of my FAVORITE spots because of the service! Our waiter Edgar was so friendly - as they always are! I got the salmon which was delicious! My friend ordered the steak - also 10/10
Probably the best patio brunch in the City. Lush garden, heated, wonderful atmosphere. Incredibly creative menu. Try quinoa Benedict - amazing. And their unique French toast, sooooo good.
Fable is a great spot for a casual night out with friends or a fun date. The food is great, though the menu is limited (would not recommend for food restrictions). Standouts include their Goldilocks chocolate mouse, that is the perfect combo of sweet salty and not to intense. The tomato salad is also mind blowing, I can confidently say this is one of the best restaurant salads out there, the avacado puree and farm fresh tomatoes sprinkled with delicious cojita cheese is to die for. The atmosphere is beautiful, shrouded with greenery and ambient lighting galore.
Fable is a time tested crowd pleaser! There isn't one complaint. Amazing food that isn't snobby or pretentious, a phenomenal wine selection and the sweetest staff. Consistently amazing.
Very cute spot in the Castro I love to go for brunch! Great service and great food! Back patio is green and a great vibe! If it’s raining they have good coverage and heat lamps so it’s always comfortable! The breakfast friend chicken sandwich is so tasty!
The server recommended the pumpkin soup which was delicious. Very patient and attentive. Made friends with the couple at the next table And almost had our dinner together. Great Halloween night for someone looking to have a nice dinner, people watch and then join the fun on the street ( 18th) later: We will be back
We ordered take out and had a great meal! The endive salad, rosemary bread, chicken and pasta, and the lasagna were all complex in their flavors and delicious.
This is one of those classic can’t go wrong with any choice type of places. Nothing is way better than something else, everything delivers equal quality and quantity. The prices are average for SF and the vibe is very cute. The garden space is nice and has heaters, because you know… SF. Service was friendly and attentive and we overall had a great experience.
It's been a while since I tried Fable but always have fond memories of their back patio. Somehow I was in the mood for a tranquil dinner in a beautiful backyard setting. I'm glad I went, it was a nice experience but I should have asked my waiter for a different table. By sheer coincidence right next to me there was a table of four gen z s who decided to talk over the entire patio and share with the rest of the guests on how stressed out they were, because they have to get up in the morning to go to work and that they have to see various therapist because of their arch enemies and because they are in therapy. I really should have asked for a different table as they almost ruined a perfectly cooked meal. Now to the food. I ordered their braised pork cheeks and their rocky mountain chicken. The braised pork cheeks have potential. I really like the kale vinaigrette base. The cheeks were super tender but missed a bit of a crunch. I think they should be pan seared to get that extra texture before the breading and oven roasting. I think this dish has huge potential but needs some tweaking. The chicken was out of this world, it was worth the wait as it takes about 20 min preparation time. Tender juicy flavours all top marks. In addition great friendly service and a beautiful setting. Thank you I will be back.
cozy restaurant with a serene garden in the back. The food was great, but the service is and the vibe is not quite there and can use some improvements. But keep in mind the food is excellent for the price you paid. Even the drinks are very affordable in SF standards.
We came for dinner and I was craving a burger. I was happy with my choice. My friend, not so happy with his... service was excellent and the outdoor seating is so aesthetic. Cheeseburger- I didn't realize it would be a double patty. Very filling, I could only eat half. My friend who didn't like his choice luckily finished the other half of my burger. The burger was juicy and cheesy. I should have said hold the cheese but the burger was still a solid choice. Glazed pork chop- seemed more like a glazed pork belly. It came with a large helping of cabbage... if you're a fan of cabbage. I would return to try other options on their menu.
Such a cute spot! Been wanting to come here for a while and it did not disappoint! The vibe and service were outstanding. The vegan lasagna was pretty good too just felt the eggplant was a bit undercooked. Would be awesome if they could add a few more vegan options :)
It is a good restaurant if you love decent American food. They don't have a lot of options in the menu but they put effort into each of the dishes. The NY stripe I ordered was good but it was a bit tough and the creamy sauce was a but heavy when the meat was already kind of fatty and tough. Nonetheless, their Brussel sprouts and Mac and Cheese were delicious. I recommend to try out.
The ambience and patio is beautiful. Overall service is pretty good. Cocktail menu is limited & vegan lasagne is delicious
A magazine-like interior similar to Santa Monica. Elevated sandwich, salad and brunch classics. Green Goddess Salad with Fried Chicken (modification) was tasty, though crispy batter a bit too delicate, slightly greasy. Toasted pepitas, an excellent nutty touch.
Came by for brunch and really liked the vibe. The atmosphere is cozy and the staff is super friendly and attentive. The food was okay, I got the pan roasted chicken breast, it was nothing spectacular, but the service and overall experience made up for it. I'd still probably come back from time to time.
loved the atmosphere! food was rather decent and not much of my particular liking, but service was nice and we really enjoyed being in their patio! their garden was absolutely charming and beautiful.
The back patio is lovely, but the food was underwhelming. We tried the chilaquiles (the flavor was pretty meh), a quinoa bowl that tasted like something I could easily make at home, and fries that were just okay.
Fable’s biggest draw is definitely the backyard garden dining area — it’s spacious, charming, and a great setting for catching up with friends. That part lived up to the hype. Unfortunately, the food didn’t quite match the atmosphere. I ordered the fried chicken sandwich and specifically asked the waiter whether it was chicken thigh or breast. He told me it was dark meat, but it was very clearly chicken breast, and on the dry side. I’ve had solid chicken breast sandwiches before, but this one missed the mark texture-wise. It was seasoned fairly well, but I strongly prefer fried chicken sandwiches made with thigh, so this was disappointing — especially after asking directly. I didn’t make a point to call it out at the table, but it’s a pet peeve when staff confidently give incorrect info. Beyond preference, accuracy matters, especially for dietary or allergy reasons. The breakfast potatoes on the side were just okay — slightly undercooked and not crispy enough for my liking. My friends both ordered the double cheeseburger and described it as “fine” but nothing memorable. The patties were on the smaller side and noticeably smaller than the bun, which is always a miss in my book. Overall, Fable is a decent option if you’re looking for a pleasant, inviting space to hang out and talk, but I wouldn’t come back specifically for the food. Good vibe, average execution.
Beautiful patio with well-kept plants, attentive and warm staff, but the food is unfortunate. I was served a Benedict with big chunks of scrambled eggs in the hollandaise, which also had no richness and very little flavor, despite having chipotle in it. The bread used was also bland. Eggs were correct and it was nice to get spinach under the protein. My companion agreed on the food with his pulled pork sandwich. Not very good but not bad. Won’t be returning.
The food was very disappointing. Pork cheeks had no flavor. Same for the croquettes and even the Caesar salad. The Mac and cheese was no better than the one I can make myself with a Kraft box. Atmosphere is great however. Especially the outdoors part. And why do you charge $60 just to make a reservation? Who does that?
I’ve been going to Fable for years. The location works well and fits the neighborhood. Today I called to book the patio and the person who answered the phone to take my booking couldn’t have been more rude & unprofessional. Truly, the lack of hospitality caught me off guard. I asked whether the patio is heated and how warm or cold it tends to feel around 7:30pm. He replied with sarcasm, saying he had no way to predict the future and therefore no idea what conditions would be like. Since he did not answer the heating question, I asked again. He repeated the same response about not predicting the future instead of giving a straight answer. I called back and canceled the reservation. Feedback for Fable management. Staff handling phone reservations need patience and basic hospitality training. Guests asking straightforward questions deserve clear, respectful responses.
Since I entered the place, the elderly man at the door was in a very bad mood. He asked me if I had a table, and I simply told him that my friend was already inside. Instead of letting me in or asking if my friend had made a reservation, he started speaking to me in an angry and condescending tone, insisting that he needed the name on the reservation. The waitress had to step in to de-escalate the situation because the man at the door couldn’t control his emotions. This place is way too noisy. You can hear all the commotion from the kitchen—the chefs throwing plates and silverware—on top of the general noise of the place. It’s impossible to have a comfortable conversation at the table without having to shout. They forgot to bring me my soda, and I had to ask for it twice. They didn’t even ask how I wanted my steak cooked. This was honestly a stressful experience.
