Jai Yun San Francisco Reviews
Jai Yun is a shining example of the highest culinary skill to be seen in Chinese cooking. I am fortunate enough to dine there with a Mandarin-speaking friend, who arranges the meal for us every now and then. The chef prepares a poem with each dish, making the experience beautiful to hear, as well as see, smell, and taste! During our most recent visit, we were blessed with as many dishes as we could, each one at least as beautiful and delicious as the last. We started with a presentation of what seems like two dozen tiny bites, and were then treated to classics like squirrel fish as well as unique dishes designed by the chef. Our hostess picked out a perfect wine for us, and indulged us with tea as well. The surroundings are very clean and modest, but what appears on your plate is worthy of all the other Michelin stars in the city. If you get a chance to eat at Jai Yun, YOU MUST!
Delicious chinese food, omakase style! You won't know what you will get. There's no menu, apart from how much you want to pay for the dinner. I believe price starts from $108 per person (but I might be wrong).
this is very good restaurant. I went there with my wife. we had 168 per person, we had great experience and super good Chinese food. we had the honor to met the chef and took picture with him.
Price is a tad more but food is okay.
Unique eatery in the city. No menu at all, just a list of price (excl. tips and tax) per customer. Nothing tells you what you could get at different given rates(from $65 pp). Some food was innovative and professionally cooked, using fresh, inexpensive meat, seafood and vegetables, but the portions of each dish were small and the service just at amateur level. No ambiance there, even the gate is partially broken.
Food was good. Not so greasy. Price is ok.
The food was interesting and creative, but I was not blown away.
They close at 2am I guess that is what he said he was to busy staring at the floor I was asking some questions and the kid was acting extremely rude and impatient towards me so I never ate there and I won’t be back
TL;DR Pros Decent Variety Literally no one else will be eating here Cons Outrageous Price considering the following: Uninspired options Mediocre Quality Poorly Trained staff Poor service Take out restaurant ambiance Jai Yun completely misses the mark and the only one who doesn't seem to get it is the owner and chef. I have traveled to China quite a bit for work and vacation and am very familiar with Chinese food from street carts to the upscale private rooms. I was visiting San Francisco for work and was excited to take some friends and family out for something not typically found in America- upscale Chinese food. So I made dinner reservations for our party of 6 at 630 on a Saturday night. The first indication that should have sent me packing was the fact that we were the only ones in the restaurant other than a single server and the chef (on a Saturday evening!) and it remained that way for the rest of the night. By the end of the night I completely understood why. The staff at Jai Yun do not speak any english which was fine since I speak Chinese. What was not fine was the server's complete ignorance of everything in the restaurant from literally not being able to describe any of the many dishes served to the 7-11-esque underwhelming wine/beer selection. When we asked for a bottle of wine, we were directed to a soda fridge where we grabbed our bottle that was chilled well below the appropriate serving temp. The menu was chef's choice with three price points 68, 88, and 98 dollars(per person) where everyone has to pick the same option. We went with the 98 dollar menu [mistakingly] thinking the food is where things have to start getting better. The best part of the meal was the variety of food served if the quality had been even slightly better than a mid level Chinese take out restaurant it might have made up for the atmosphere, undertrained staff, and most importantly justified the 100 per person price. To finish off they less than impressive meal, our server returned the bill to a guest who was not the one who paid asking for a bigger tip while leaving a basket of halloween candies as "dessert" (this was August). So much potential, such poor execution.
I definitely had the worst experience. Today I had one of the worst, if not the worst dining experience of my life. Jai Yun in san francisco 680 Clay st. is definitely a restaurant that you want to review . The service was terrible . the food sucked and the bill was stupidly expensive. I wish that i have never gone to this place. Take an important notice on this matter and realize that jai Yn is not worth being in your list if you want to remain as a reliable source for food recommendations.
