Sun Maxim's San Francisco Reviews
My husband and I just moved to this neighborhood and have been wanting to try this place. So happy we came here, it’s a solid spot for some tasty comfort food. We got the spare rib and the chicken mushroom clay pot rice. Both clay pot dishes were really tasty and the rice came out nice and crispy with a good sauce to pair with it. The lady who seated us was very friendly and attentive. We’ll definitely be back and will try more things on the menu!
It was first time go to this spot and I like the service and the food taste so yummy, the lady was very nice to us and allow us to bring the dog in the stroller it was just us and some take out so atmosphere was good and quite
A small Cantonese restaurant offer a variety dishes. Very friendly service. Chicken mushroom clay pot rice was good. Fried fresh vegetable was tender and right seasoning.
Such good food and the woman who was running everything were super fast, friendly, welcoming, and attentive. What more could I ask for with delicious food! The shrimp 🍤 dumplings are my favorite. I love the soup dumplings as well. The pork buns were fresh and tasty, and the shumai was on point.
Super friendly service. The food is great. The stir-fried beef rice noodle (gong chow au hor) is excellent. The noodles tasted very fresh and tender. The lady that served us told us the rice noodles and steamed rice rolls (chiang fun) are house made in the kitchen. The clay pot rice are very good too. Though be patient and prepare to wait because it is made to order. I forgot the leftovers when we left. The super friendly lady that served us chased us down a block away. Really going above and beyond. Thank you!
Coming into San Francisco, getting some delicious Dim Sum was certainly a priority. Sun Maxim’s did not disappoint! There was such a great variety of food, which was all incredible. Xiao long Bao was served in what looked like miniature pie tins which was adorable, and made for a very unique presentation. Shrimp dumplings and bbq pork buns were also spectacular. Street parking was very accessible as well, with smart meters that just made everything easy.
Authentic Cantonese food! Beef rice noodle and watercress soup are amazing. One of the best Cantonese food I ever had in SF.
Wow , so surprised this small restaurant , rice roll , clay pot rice is great ! Price is reasonable, fast service ! Second time here , still good !!!
The Hong Kong style congee we love, and we ask for roasted peanuts with order of Chinese doughnuts. Good dimsums. Overall very affordable: $21 for two before tips for an eggroll order to share, a beef congee, and a coconut soup with oolong tea on the house. Not cash-only and yet. One of the few breakfast places open mornings (8am open). We live locally so breakfast on Irving <3
Decent priced Chinese restaurant. Dim Sum and Fast Hong Kong style food. Chinese tamales, baked Pork Chop rice, Claypot rice, curry fish balls, Potstickers and much much more... Free WiFi, major credit cards accepted.
Got the preserved meat and meatloaf claypot. Added a fried egg and tender greens. Soo good! The server gave us two sesame balls for free too. Friendly and excellent service!
Our PoPo raved about the Cheong Fun here as they are “made to order” and very fresh—and she did not lie! Food was so fresh as takeout even with a 40 min drive! Extremely thin, soft and silky rice rolls with generous amounts of filling :) Turnip cake was also velvety, melt in your mouth. Garlic choy sum was very flavorful, our fave. Overall solid no-frills dim sum and very decently priced!

food can take a second to arrive, but they serve best steam rice rolls and ho fun i've had in san francisco because it's so fresh
Great food for great price. We had spare rib claypot rice, Beef rice noodle roll, and coconut chicken soup. After tip it was less than 50. Everything is tasty, fresh, and has original flavor of its ingredients with minimum condiments needed. This kind of classical style authentic Cantonese restaurants are less and less nowadays, especially for us who live in South Bay. Owner is sweet and friendly. Food came out fast and in a reasonable speed (clay pot rice takes 20mins because it is made to order). Definitely recommend everyone to check out. Will come back for sure.

Best place in SF for clay pot rice, you can add any toppings you like, but we love the chicken, mushrooms, and spare rib. Their rice flour is milled in-house, making for the freshest, silkiest rice rolls (shrimp and Chinese donut). Be sure to order those too!
The food I have had delivered to my address from this place was very delicious. I highly recommend this place to have lunch at if you are in San Francisco. The service was nice and the ambiance was great from what I’ve seen in other reviews. Next time I’ll eat there in person
The meatloaf, spareribs and salted fish clay pot is really tasty, just wish the pot is a little bigger, so tasty. They have a weekday deal from 11am- 8pm on chicken or meatloaf clay pot rice for $11.99 a savings of $4.
It's a 3.5 for me! The employees were very friendly and welcoming but most of the food I tried was just okay. Don't know if it was just an off day when I came in but I would avoid the dim sum. SHRIMP RICE NOODLE Thin skin, nice texture, and yummy! At first glance, it looks like a great portion but the parts with the shrimp are placed on top and the bottom has the leftover rice noodles. I'd order it again though because this is the closest place to me with fresh rice noodles. SIU MAI & SHRIMP DUMPLING Meh. These were barely warm and got cold and hard so fast. Doesn't taste fresh either - would not recommend. CHICKEN FEET & SPARE RIBS (S) The spareribs were chewy and really greasy. I felt like there was a coat of oil stuck in my throat afterwards. The chicken feet was too sweet and the sauce was very chunky and gelatinous - no bueno. The way it's served just makes me think they plate cold food, microwave it, and serve it. I do love getting freshly steamed dim sum!

Very good 拉腸rice roll , very soft and taste good, the pot rice is delicious too, but the Fired wonton the skin is too thick for me
Good dim sum but very very slow - expect to wait 20+ minutes for takeout dimsum even when you are the only customer.
Neither good or bad, I would say it's a pretty average dim sum place nothing too crazy that blew my mind. We went in at 11:30 and despite out group being one of the only ones there, it took a while for the things that we ordered to come out. The soup dumplings were good but not sure I would come back.

Went in with some family for a small lunch. Waited a while for out food, just for each dish to be brought out five minutes after each other. Waited another 10mins after we ate for our to-go food and pay for our meal. We paid cash, and Susan took our change as “tip”. When we asked for our change back, she kept stating that it was tip and kept pointing to the receipt. We did order quite a bit of food and initially had tip calculated, but with the money she kept it would’ve been an extra $10. We did get our money back, the whole situation was ridiculous.
