Vega San Francisco Reviews
Authentic Italian food in the heart of Bernal heights. Went there for dinner - absolutely loved the halibut catch of the day and the ragu papadelle. Restaurant was not stingy with the sauce and it was really tasty. You know the food is good when the owner knows the regulars and greets them ! And a lot of the diners were regulars which says a lot about the food !
I walked in on a busy Friday night and the staff immediately found me a spot in a cute nook. The pasta was handmade and delicious. The burrata was refreshing. I can’t wait to come back!
Fantastic experience at Vega. I had the opportunity to meet the owner a while back and decided to stop by to prestige her restaurant and have a nice Italian dinner. Vega did not disappoint. It is certainly one of the best Italian places in the city, counting also with a pretty friendly and attentive staff. We had the sautéed calamari with beans, polenta with meatballs (absolutely divine), a four cheese pizza and also a seafood pasta dish with squid ink. They were all delicious. To me the highlight was the flavor and aroma from their tomato sauce used in their meatballs. Certainly homemade, fresh and very aromatic, it was delicious. The pizza had a nice crust I liked the pairing of the cheeses and the thinly sliced pears, the pasta was also delicious and had a very garlicky taste that I personally loved. As in our dessert, we really enjoyed their Creme Brûlée Cheesecake. To sum up, Vega is a gem and definitely worth your visit.
Really awesome Italian restaurant and was even able to be seated without any wait outdoors. The partially enclosed seating area combined with patio heaters were great to help stave off the SF cold air and light rain. Started with warmed artichoke hearts as an appetizer to share with 2 people and it was delicious, albeit on the expensive side for a single artichoke heart cut in half with a salad. Ordered the Wild boar stew special and it was fantastic. Great flavor but still fork tender. For dessert the tiramisu and the white peach torte were both fantastic. Some of the best Italian dessert I’ve had anywhere in the U.S.
This spot is always on my list when I visit SF! They have the best Rigatoni al Forno. I dream about it!
The Boscaiola was one of the best dishes I’ve ever had in the Bay, maybe top 5 for me The gnocchi was the perfect texture and give, with a fresh richness to the sauce of white truffle oil and porcini. the sausage brought out a hearty, crunchy fatness to it all that had me kissing my fingers chef style ! What a wonderful time here all around. The owner, Vega, was there, and she was so welcoming, generous and fun to talk to! As well as our amazing waitress Julia. We also had the canneli and calamari, I’m a bit more of a softer bean sort of gal but the calamari was perfectly seared and lightly seasoned with a powerful punch. My friend’s dishes, the veal cutlet/mashed potatoes + the zucchini rigatoni were delish dishes as well that they ate up in a split second. Great dishes. BUT I truly was blown away by the Boscaiola, highly recommend. The bread was fresh and wheaty in a cottage core classic style. paired so well with everything, including the beets and burrata. The burrata when eaten at same time as beets was perfect, burrata by itself was great but could have used more seasoning. ALSO! Divine Wine Wednesdays = HALF OFF the bottle of wine, amazing deal
Vega is definitely one of the most authentic Italian places in all of SF! We went there on a Sunday but they are famous for their wine promotions on Wednesday! We ordered the capricciosa pizza (it had egg! - never had it before) the linguine, the spaghetti with clams and the gnocchi! I think they keep changing the menu so do ask the server for suggestions! Overall the food and the whole experience was worth it!
Very excited to have tried Vega on Courtland Ave. Greeted with “buona sera” and their house wine definitely reminded me of Italy. Each dish was a crowd pleaser, and we had to try their tiramisu as the table next door was drooling over theirs. We will definitely make it back!
We went on a Sunday night and it wasn’t too busy. This is a nice place for Italian food in Bernal heights. The atmosphere is nice and romantic lit with candle lights and hip background music. There are indoor and outdoor seatings. We got seated right away. I recommend getting the calamari, sausage gnocchi, and tiramisu! Very delicious! 😋
Had an amazing experience with my boo here. The food is fresh and cooked to perfection, the service was great, and the ambience was romantic and homey. Will be visiting again!
So Bernal lost a long-time local favorite for breakfast and lunch (Bernal Star). Vega has stepped up and filled the need wonderfully. Their brunch menu is delicious and light. If you miss Bernal Star, definitely give this place a try! You won't regret it!
I have been coming to this restaurant since I 1st moved to SF 2019 and it is now our favorite place to go in SF on a date night! Everything there is great here, but I want to start with what I think makes this place one of the top spots in SF! I go here to see familiar and always smiling faces after a long day at work, after a flight or when I want to taste food like the one my Nonna used to cook! TY Vega for being so kind and making this place homey! Now the food.. Antipasto: I always get the Carciofini Ripieni and it comes with an amazing salad to start things going, their minestrone and octopus is great too! Primi Piatti: My favorite dishes are the Gnocchi Alla Boscaiola, the Carbonara, Fettuccine Al Ragu Di Cinghiale, and the Capellini Al Granchio.. although.. they always have an amazing special dish for us to try! Specials: If I had a wand, I would add the involtinis to the menu ohhhh woooow.. I had to order it a second time to take home! Its so hard to find involtinis not made with tomato sauce! I also love that they usually have a mushroom pasta dish in this menu and most days I go for it! Wine: I just let them recommend one and I have never been disappointed (yet) :) Dessert: Yes.. their tiramisu, and all deserts are great but.. we were surprised by their sorbetto! You can tell it was made with fresh berries and it was nice and light! Overall: You can tell that this restaurant cares about their people and the food, real Florentine authenticity, with a family dinner atmosphere! Their bread is from a local business nearby and their olive oil selection is always perfect! Looking forward to coming again and again!

Welcoming and authentic Italian restaurant in Bernal Heights. Was moderately busy on a Tuesday evening but they had a table for us as walk-ins. Great food and service. The rigatoni with meat balls was delicious, the warm artichoke starter was tasty. Nice wine list, Valpolicella and house red both lovely. Tiramisu is not to be missed! Appreciate the soft lighting and sound proofing which creates a cozy, enjoyable atmosphere for conversations and connection.
We love the food at Vega! I'm Sicilian so I'm very picky about eating Italian food out. I highly recommend the Impepata Di Vongole E Cozze. The mussels are always fresh and they give you plenty of wine broth with perfectly toasted Italian bread to mop it up. I would also recommend their grass fed beef meatball appetizer with the roasted polenta. The wait staff couldn't be any more attentive. We are so lucky to have restaurant Vega here in Bernal Heights!
Have been to Vega thousands of times, feel like it’s the second home to me:) I am not a huge pizza lover but I really love Vega’s pizza:) it’s very thin yet super flavorful. My favorite dish there is the secret menu dish Squid ink pasta, definitely on the savory side but super umami 😋
Fantastic little Italian restaurant. I really enjoyed the boscaiola. Nice atmosphere inside. Would highly recommend if in the area.
We visited this highly recommended spot for dinner while on our visit to San Francisco. Everything we ordered exceeded our expectations! The employees were attentive, and the atmosphere was cozy and good vibes!

The pasta was so delicious, could tell it was handmade!! Our waiter Peter was magnificent, really made the night fun. Highly recommend eating here- you won’t be disappointed !
So I'm not the first one to review Vega nor will I be the last one. I certainly wish I could give out halve points to be fair to them. Honestly I love this place , the location, the setting it just calls your name. The owner is always there friendly just like the touch and as I speak some Italian it does get an extra welcome response. I think I ate at least 10 times there over the last two plus years and I'm not tired of their food. It's also remarkable that they have increased their prices dramatically, eating out at Vega is still adorable and the quality of the food remains high. What to try u might ask. Well anything you crave that night. Saltimbocca, any of their pasta dishes, their meatballs, mussels, a salad ... you really can't go wrong. Add a glass of their house , at $8 for a Sangiovese you can't complain, could you now. I would give this place a 4.5 all around if I could..
The grilled calamari was delicious as was the sea bass, linguini with clams and the butternut squash ravioli. The service was gracious. Be aware: seating is extremely limited, even with reservations. We were seated in the driveway next door, which made for an amusing experience.

I ordered the Rigatoni Al Forno with Italian fennel sausage, and it was delicious. I do think the dish could have used a little more spice, and I ended up adding some salt and pepper myself. Actually, I feel like most of the dishes could use a bit more seasoning overall to really bring out the flavors. My friend ordered the Gnocchi Della Casa with pesto, and unfortunately, it wasn’t great. It tasted pretty bland and even came out cold, which was disappointing. That said, the staff were really nice and friendly, and the atmosphere was welcoming.
