Café Docanto San Jose Reviews
Love this local coffee spot. The owner is super nice and welcoming. It seems like a community center where everyone knows each other, greets warmly, and even offers to share seats. We enjoyed a cappuccino and a latte (they offer soy/almond milk for substitute), we appreciate so much with the owner’s sweet treat! The relaxed atmosphere here feels so European, instantly bringing us back to Portugal and sparking that nostalgic feeling. Great spot to chill with excellent coffee and some food. Definitely coming back. Cash or Venmo only. Free parking right next to the shop.
Super welcoming, friendly service. Great place to stop and grab a cup of espresso and the Portuguese bun sandwich with the São Jorge cheese. Cash or Venmo only. Big parking lot.
Amazing. I’m in love with this place and it’s only my first time here. I want to move in. Café do Canto, marry me please. He shaved the prosciutto for my sandwich fresh. This breakfast makes me want to cry from happiness.
Delicious Portuguese coffee and pastry. Friendly owner and guests. Felt like home even though I am not Portuguese :-) cash or Venmo only.
Love this small family owned neighborhood coffee shop. The espresso is fragrant and smooth. They make ham and cheese sandwiches with fresh baked Portuguese rolls and sao Jorge cheese from the Azores. This is a piece of the Azores in east side San Jose. The vibe brings you right to the island. Must get the ham and cheese sandwich and an espresso!!!
This lil espresso shop will transport you to an old world tradition where people met at corner coffee shop and socialized daily as part of their daily mental self-care routine. Try the linguisa sandwich Lee makes. Only five dollars and it is also very tasty and filling.
Very good service, nice espresso good flavor,I come occasionally love this place
I’ve been to Lisboa twice and Porto once. This place is the closest thing I’ve felt to Portugal since I left her. Great coffee. Great natas. Great vibe. Love it
Really cute and quaint spot. Owner is a really nice guy. No frills. Brings me back to Portugal.
Yes! Very nice in neighborhood cafe. It feels like you're in Europe. Grate fast service and excellent coffee! ☺
The owner is the best! The ham and cheese and amazing! The cheese is Portuguese and delicious. So glad I found this place!
Fun, authentic atmosphere surrounded by men chatting in Portuguese

The owner is the best! The ham and cheese and amazing! The cheese is Portuguese and delicious. So glad I found this place!
I read a review in The Metro and wanted to visit. We went on a Sunday morning right before closing at Noon. The staff was very friendly and offered us a free custard tarts as they we're closing up. Loved that they were so generous and didn't waste the awesome treats. We had two lattes, a sweetened iced latte, and a prosciutto and cheese sandwich. Everything was very good. It's clearly a local fixture in the community and deserves a visit. Small but perfect menu, great prices, high quality and cash only.
The owner is wonderful. He is very kind. This is a pace of community and laughter, a community watering hole is you will. I was warmly greeted by the owner. Coffee is good sandwiches are basic but the cheese! I don’t know what it was but it was so delicious. I had a decaf and ham and cheese sandwich with egg. I would go back here. I sat for a hour and half doing sudoku puzzles. Customers also super friendly. They know each other by name!
Cozy cafe, top service from the owner and great coffee too.
The coffee was great with a homey ambiance. Definitely a hidden gem that has conquered time and corporate competition. My new go to when I’m in the area!
Love this local coffee spot. The owner is super nice and welcoming.
You won't find better value anywhere. The espresso is quite good and the two pastries were nice. All together, cost less than just coffee at some places. Absolute gem of a hole-in-the-wall (meant in the best possible way - clean, but small and random location). Cash or Venmo only.
Gem. Very unassuming, , great service, spot on. Excellent Garoto (double espresso with steamed milk), warm pasteis de nata, awesome Linguica sandwich with shaved onion and sliced tomato. Awesome Portuguese roll, warm, fresh crunchy. Very authentic. I grew up in SJ but not on East Side. Worth the trip.
Great coffee and good people! Only in the area on vacation, but will definitely try to stop by again.

I came here with 6 others to get breakfast. The owner was friendly and very quick with taking and making our orders. He was working solo but did everything pretty fast. I recommend the linguica sandwich and add cheese on top.

Service and environment was cool. Felt like a mafia coffee spot when you get in, but then everyone is very nice and keeps to themselves. The person serving at the counter was really nice. I asked for a PB&J sandwich and he gave me an untoasted peanut butter sandwich, not the tastiest.
