Food was super good! It was freshly made, fast service and good portions for the price. I would definitely visit here again if I’m ever in town.

I was with a genuine greeting. Kudos. What I liked was the deep fried food got fried just a little longer, making it crispy instead of soggy. This place is a great alternative to burgers or pizza. It's great to know that this location has survived. Easy to get to from Hwy 87 to the Taylor St exit. Head towards downtown (East) about a mile.

PLEASE 🙏 Dont ever close these 2 stores. The one in Japan town I've been going to since I was in my mother's whom. Seriously over 35 years of yummy Happy House serving now 3 generations of mi familia

Great food! We drive 15 miles from our house to this restaurant because we enjoy it so much. Let's help keep this place open by coming here for lunch or dinner. You'll be glad you did!

I really wish there was one in the Sacramento valley. Always stop coming home from Santa Cruz. Best chicken teriyaki and salad in the world

Been going here for years... like many years! LOL. Great food not too pricey. Teriyaki beef plate and their tempura is always great plus their brand of teriyaki sauce regular or spicy is awesome! Just tried their tempura shrimp! It was awesome! Shrimp was a good size! I was surprised! The one in Japantown and McKee are my go to places. Sad they closed down the one by Blossom Hill awhile back

I always order#8 with beef rice, and all zucchini for my veggies with 2 chicken legs. It always tastes amazing! Happi House is one of my favorites! The staff here are great also.

They have closed a few recently... But the two I go to are still cranking....Almaden and japantown. Both are always busy and serve up fresh and consistent food. My favorite is the number 9 with double salad.... Chicken tenders (not breaded) and salad. Great combo! Enjoy your lunch at this great spot 😊.

I'm from central California. Believe it or not we make a monthly trip just to buy this food. I love it so much since I was a kid. My mom worked there when I was 10. I am 53 now. That place has history for me. How ever our last trip to pick up dinner was terrible. My favorite pork teriyaki was bland and burnt bought large amounts of food I'm talking between the 2 families we spent 223 dollars and this time I was disappointed. But I will still go back I will check before I come hime though. I wish you would make a franchise here in hanford I would 100 percent guarantee high profits and thousands of return customers. I tell everyone about you and give samples when I bring back.. Love you so much please consider moving here too.

J

There’s only two of these left and been coming here since they had the 2 for 1 deals in the news paper and would frequent the Almaden location before it closed. This please is a treasure in San Jose and always worth a visit!

Happi House has gotten so much better. I've been going to Happi House for almost 30 years, this is the best it has ever been. Service, food, cleanliness, ambiance have continually improved. Great job!

I've been searching for better Teriyaki ever since leaving this city long ago, and I've simply never found it. Happi House simply has the best Teriyaki I've experienced, and this has been one of my favorite foods for the majority of my life. If you haven't tried it, I highly, highly recommend you stop by! I've gone so far as to call them and have their sauce shipped to me... it's just crazy good stuff!

Very great service. Went around 1pm and the guy who was taking our order was super friendly and this was my first time visiting we came all the way from Vegas. He deserves a raise. Thank you!

Good food, good atmosphere, and good prices. I have been coming to Happi House since I was a kid, so for decades at this point. I agree with some of the other reviewers that lately the food is the best it has ever been. The tempura is crispier, the meat is tastier and the sauces are always on point. They have also expanded their menu to branch out into other offerings, which is exciting, though I generally stick to the classic combos. I have moved out of the area so I always go to Happi House as a treat when I'm back in San Jose. I was sad to learn about the other locations closing. I really hope the current two restaurants stick around as Happi House really is a San Jose institution. I like the classic Happi House style of the inside of this restaurant.

Only 2 locations left. I hope they never close up. I don't know what I will do if I can't get my chicken salad fix.

Love the tempura dipped vegetables and pork teriyaki. I make it a point to go to Happy House when in San Jose. I live in Hollister and unfortunately we don't have a Happy House Restaurant nearby. The service is excellent and food is fresh and delicious. Japan town is going thru alot of construction looks like new buildings with dual housing and shopping being constructed close to Happy House. Not to worry about parking they have a fairly large parking lot. Try the food next time your in town. You won't be disappointed.

I loved it!!! Their teriyaki burger is delicious! Ciabatta bread bun seemed scary at first but was perfect bun. Quality ingredients. Sweet lady gave amazing service. the coke was very flat but whatever.

What can I say? I love Happi House. My father introduced it to me as a teenager in 1977 and I've been a "happi" customer ever since! The food is very tasty and always fresh. No soggy tempura here. It is fresh cooked, crispy and piping hot when you get it. It's unfortunate they closed so many of their other restaurants. There's only two left now. I miss the Saratoga location which was near my home, so now I drive to Japantown to the original store. I wish they still had the spicy Happi sauce in bottles. I would buy a bunch of them.

I’m so upset because I’ve lived in San Jose for 14 months. I’ve been dying for fried broccoli. Little did I know Japanese have been frying their vegetables for what? Hundreds of years now? 2 days before moving I found this happy little restaurant and it. Was. Absolutely. Incredible!!!! Their Vegetable Tempura was sweet potato, carrots, broccoli, zucchini… I think that was it. & then they have fried green beans which were so delicious. I recommend the fried onion rings the best. Lightly battered. The perfect crunch. The tempura was delightful. It even heats up well if you need to heat it up later. Not like other fried foods. The happi faces potatoes were great. The chicken salad was good but it needed some sauce. Some kind of a zing. All-in-all.. a total tragedy. I absolutely found my favorite restaurant of all time and I moved two days later. I searched where I moved and while Japanese serve vegetable tempura everywhere, it’s things like squash and pumpkin which is still good. Bell peppers and some other veggies I’ve never heard of. But I want my green beans, broccoli, yams, carrots, onions, and potatoes, please. Thank you!! Dipped in ranch and peanut sauce! Just the way Happi House does it.

Pretty good food for a good value. Good selection of sauces, plenty of seating. One of the things we got was the sampler dinner, and the different pieces were a little smaller than we had hoped.

This happy house chain has been around for decades. Unfortunately many of them went out of business or folded. But you can still find them operating individually. Anyhow, great food, mixed tempura plates, chicken, pork and beef. Package sauce excellent!

My family and I love this place. My husband and I have been eating here since we were kids. The only sad part is they close the one on blossom hill, which was in our area. Best Chinese chicken salad around and udon.

Good 'ol Happi House. This is the express version but im not sure what makes that distinction. Kids menu, handicap access, free parking. Good after a night of drinking.

The tempura is crunchy good teriyaki chicken has good flavor prices are reasonable I usually skip the rice and double up on the salad but that's just me!

We were hungry and found ourselves in the neighborhood. We wanted to go somewhere else, but it was closed (even though Google said they were open). We found this place, and we were pleasantly surprised. Large portions. Good takeout Japanese food. Maybe not to drive 20 minutes out of the way, but if I'm in the neighborhood again, I'd consider it. Extra star because logo looks like the Nardcore symbol.

I walked 1.5 miles from the Hyatt to get food and a couple of bottles of spicy sauce to take back home. Upon entering the establishment I passed by and said hello to an employee who was on her cell call. I proceeded to wait 5 minutes while she finished her call to place my order. She didn't offer an apology and she was quite short with her responses. I asked about the sauce adding that I mainly came to purchase spicy sauce and was told we don't sell it anymore. Okay great where can I get it? We don't sell it. Perhaps a corporate office? No! We don't sell it. The food was delicious after my long walk however after going to this place for 20 plus year's at the Sunnyvale location which is gone. I'm done. I'm a flight attendant and a manager at a stadium customer service is what makes the experience and excites people to return. Happy House N. 5th street I came a long way to get your food because it is that good however, as hard as I work for my $$$ I feel a pleasant experience as I hand it over is the least of my expectations.

I have been going to this place since the 1970s. It all started on McKee Road in East San Jose. I have pretty much been going periodically ever since then. I don’t expect much from happy house and they usually deliver just about what I expect. The food off of the menu is predictable and pretty good not too expensive. One thing has always bothered me however. Asian chicken salad. I’ll bet in a quart of their salad one would be lucky to find a level tablespoon of tiny, itty-bitty burnt chicken bits. Don’t get me wrong. I’ll still buy it because it just taste good especially when it’s drowning in teriyaki sauce, but in good conscience, they should really drop the word chicken from the menu when it describes the salad.

I am curious what is express about this place. I was greeted pretty quickly after entering, but as soon as the cashier started to take my order she just walked away...while we were still ordering. So then another lady came from the back a few minutes later and begin the take our order (again). We got the ordering situation taken care of but then it took over 20 minutes for our food to be ready. I would like to mention we did not order anything difficult or off menu, simply their current running special.

D
Danni Mestaz

First time visiting this particular HH, but I've been to the one near Stevens Creek and McKee, both were much faster, but the quality of the food was consistent. I ordered a single plate, no customizations and it took 45 minutes! That was outrageous. I don't know if they had a problem that day, but since the food was so good, I'll assume they were short a cook land give them another chance.

It's aight. Didn't care for the soup. Got bbq mix plate and the beef had an odd, maybe freezer burned taste. Chicken was okay. The salad needs vinegar or something, it's just lettuce and crispy rice straws. Very basic

Fast food place for all things teriyaki. I don't see myself coming back but the prices were not bad for the amount of food we got. We tried the following: . Veggie tempura: Hot and crispy, exactly what I was expecting. The mix includes carrots, zucchini, broccoli and onions. Pretty good and decent portion for an appetizer, I just wish it included a bigger sauce for dipping. . Sampler plate #10: The plate is quite big, aside from the chicken salad and veggie tempura it includes a piece of katsu chicken, a teriyaki chicken drumstick, some beef and pork. The rice (beef rice) was ok, didn't have much flavor. All meats were good. I'd ask for both regular and spicy teriyaki sauce, these help. . Chicken salad: Do not order this. It doesn't come with any sort of dressing, it's just lettuce, some crispy rice noodles and sesame seeds. Think of the side salad you never really want to eat. It's fine if it comes with your combo and you're very hungry, otherwise I'd avoid it altogether, not even worth the $3.39.

Good place to eat and hangout with friends. Mostly I found fried items and it tastes good. We need to ask whether it is fried before buying it as it was surprise when I saw all the fried items on my plate.

Food is very good. Staff are very helpful. Unfortunately, this location is understaff, so orders take a while to place and fulfill. I feel for the team since they're doing their best, but hopefully will add more folks.

They three meat plate with the pork, steak and chicken wasn't really worth it. The pork was really a good but everything else was lagging flavors. What's cool about this place is they have the old school potato smiley faces from school lunches but they are so much better because they are fried.

To the owner, you need to re-do the whole menu with 100% better and authentic HAPPI FOOD, the name of the restaurant is way far from what it’s said on google. Frozen non flavored teriyaki food, too many onions are used for tempura veggies, the teriyaki chicken bowl, has frozen vegetables, and chopped onions, sorry, came a long drive for a waste of food and money. Don’t recommend eating here at all.

Usually love it , but this evening we got an order to go bad mistake. My tempura mixed plate I could barely eat. The shrimp were half cooked almost raw. The veggies were raw. You can tell that the frying oil is old needs changed. The beef and pork on the other order was like leather black and greasy. Oh my god my husbands shrimp ya totally raw and the tempura is still wet. I won’t be back!!!

I bought chicken teriyaki and shrimp tempura for the first time here. Chicken teriyaki was awful and shrimp tempura very oily. Both dishes were to go and ended up in garbage. Name is Happy House but the food is opposite. They need a chef who knows about food.
