I finally made it back here after way too long, and honestly, I'm kicking myself for staying away. I'm genuinely baffled as to why this place isn't at the top of every "Best Thai in San Jose area" list. Everything we ordered was vibrant, punchy, and clearly made with care. The dishes are all carefully crafted - none of the run-of-the-mill stuff. Same goes for the menu - which sets it apart from other Thai spots in the area. (this was a to-go order - so I can't comment on the vibe in the restaurant) If you're looking for Thai food that hasn't been "watered down" or over-commercialized, this is it. Don't let the middle-of-the-pack rankings fool you--this is a top-tier spot. I won't be waiting this long to come back next time.

This will be our 2nd time dining at Must Be Thai— overall a solid, family‑friendly meal. The Tom Yum soup was the standout, it was very delicious! It was savory, and aromatic — a perfect starter. The Pad Prik Moo Krob delivered great texture with crispy pork and a spicy‑tangy sauce. The non‑spicy Pad Thai with chicken was mild and comforting: noodles were tender, sauce lightly sweet, and the chicken was cooked through — great if you want no heat. Service was friendly and the place felt casual and relaxed. Would recommend for anyone craving reliable Thai classics.

This place is one of my go-to Thai restaurants. The flavors lean a bit more American-style than super traditional Thai, but it’s honestly perfect for the American palate — bold, flavorful, and super satisfying. You can tell they use high-quality ingredients and the seasoning/spice is on point. My favorites are the Pat See Ew with beef, Tom Kha soup, and Pad Kra Pao — all packed with flavor. The papaya salad is fresh with a great kick, and the Pad Thai is amazing. Also they even have fresh coconut water. Everything I’ve tried here has been delicious — highly recommended!

I keep coming back. 🛬 The flavors at this restaurant is the most authentic Thai flavor you can get. 🇹🇭 The #1 Pad Thai in the Bay Area. 🎖️ The dishes and the presentation is always on point.🥢 The temperature and the flavors of each item are always just right. ♨️ I’ve had probably about half the items on the menu. They all hit the spot.🫃 Yes, at busy hours, you may have to wait a bit for a seat. But the it is always worth it. ⌚️ Realistically a 4.6 ⭐️ rating

Been here couple times for weekend dinner. Usually packed so waiting can be long. You can get on the waiting list through the web ahead, but you only have like 5mins to be present after they let you know it’s your turn. Food is good; less salty than other thai places. Our fav are green curry, hang lei curry, tom yum fried rice, and pok pok thai (like it more than pok pok lao which is saltier). Our young kids like the noodles.

Absolutely loved this place! The food was flavorful, fresh, and beautifully presented — honestly some of the best Thai food I’ve had in a long time. There are spicy options on the menu, but I specifically asked for a non-spicy dish. Unfortunately, the one I received was still quite spicy. I had already eaten a bit, but I let the server know I couldn’t eat spicy food — and they handled it so professionally and kindly. Without any issue, they brought me a new, completely non-spicy dish that was just as delicious. That kind of service really stands out — respectful, caring, and genuinely thoughtful. One small downside: the tables felt a little sticky. But honestly, the amazing food and outstanding service totally made up for it. Also, just a heads-up for weekends — be prepared to wait for a table. The very first time we came, our baby was 5 months old, and we waited almost an hour to be seated. We were given a table outside, and although it was a bit chilly, they had overhead heaters that helped a bit. On weekdays though, everything was great — no wait, quick seating, and a relaxed vibe. You can sit inside or outside, and now that it’s summer and the weather is warm with no wind, sitting outside has been really pleasant. Highly recommend this place for incredible Thai food and genuinely kind service.

Must Be Thai is hands down our go-to spot in San Jose for authentic Thai cuisine, and OMG, it never fails to impress. The food quality is consistently superb, and it’s no surprise that this place is always packed with loyal customers who know a good thing when they find it. The ambiance is warm and welcoming, and the staff are always friendly, attentive, and quick to make sure you’re well taken care of. Despite how busy it gets, we’ve never felt neglected or had to wait long for our food—an impressive feat considering how popular this place is. What really sets Must Be Thai apart are the custom spices and sauces—a true standout feature that’s hard to find elsewhere. Every dish feels unique and bursting with flavor, and those house-made sauces add a level of complexity that takes the entire dining experience up a notch. Our favorites? The Pad Thai with Chicken is absolutely the bomb. Perfectly cooked noodles, tender chicken, and a balance of sweet, savory, and tangy flavors that are perfectly executed every time. Then there’s the Pad See You—a bold and flavorful dish that’s packed with umami, featuring broad noodles and a delectable sauce that’s rich and satisfying. But the real showstopper has to be the Pixel Chicken. The chicken is cooked to perfection, crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and served with their punchy dipping sauce that packs a flavorful punch of heat and tang. It’s unlike any other dish we’ve had at a Thai restaurant—absolutely addictive. Every time we visit, we leave with full hearts and full stomachs. Whether you’re new to Thai food or a seasoned fan, Must Be Thai will not disappoint. We highly recommend making it your next go-to spot!

Nice Thai restaurant! We came on a weekday for lunch and it was pretty packed. We ordered a variety of items and shared it family style. The pad see you was really good, the papaya salad was nice and fresh. The Tom yum fried rice was good as well. The staff were attentive and nice.

Food: we’ve tried this place multiple times before and after they update the menu. Their tom yum fried rice amazed us for sure; definitely our favorite of all. Service: they get very busy so it’s always better to get on the waitlist earlier. Their price is definitely more up there compared to other Thai restaurants in Bay Area. Ambiance: vibey and cozy. Small party are more suitable.

First time at Must Be Thai in San Jose and it was buzzing on New Year's lunch. Food's made-to-order with customizable spice levels and ingredients. We tried Pad Thai, Pad Ki Mao, and Green Curry - the eggplants in the curry were a unique touch. Green curry was a bit underwhelming though - missed bamboo shoots and Thai basil flavor. Limited portions, but worth a try. Avg experience, might revisit for the vibe and customization options.

Authentic Thai food with tons of flavor. Convenient wait system using Google and yelp. Happy hour before 6pm. Ordered Pad Ki Mao which was nice and tasty with a good amount of spice. Navy seal the deal is another good tasting dish with cuttlefish, curry powder and salted eggs. Panang curry was great but there were only five pieces of tofu. Overall good place to try if you like Thai food.

It wasn’t the best Thai food I’ve had, but it was delicious. I was expecting spice from all the dishes, but received little to no spiciness. The pork rice did not have enough garlic and basil. It just tasted like ground pork rice. The calamari was the best dish here, interesting shape, sufficient crunch, and tender.

Ordered: Pad Kee Mao, Khao Soi Pad Kee Mao: 4.5/5 The pad kee mao had a nice kick and the texture of the noodles were great. I do think the noodles were a bit too thin for my liking but the dish was very savory and sweet. Khao Soi: 3.5/5 The chicken was great and tender! The curry sauce was really good and creamy. The egg noodles did bloat and soak up a lot of the sauce after around 10 minutes so it did feel very heavy after a bit of time. I would recommend quickly eating the noodles if you order this dish. The vibes of the restaurant was very modern and cute! Perfect for a cute lunch date. Plenty of parking when we came for lunch on a Tuesday. And walkable distance to Valley Fair or Academic Coffee!

Ordered takeout recently and enjoyed the Penang curry which had a good flavor/richness and spice level. I didn’t like the Pad Thai as it seemed like the main flavor was coming from the lime although I’ve had trouble finding a good Pad Thai since traveling to Thailand. Would recommend for the curry and might try some of the other curries on their menu in the future!

This has become my second favorite Thai restaurant in San Jose! Even though the joint is smaller than expected, the food is incredibly fresh and bursting with flavor. Every dish I tried had the perfect balance of savory, sweet, tangy, and/or spicy—everything you would expect from authentic Thai cuisine, beautifully blended. Dishes to try: Papaya salad, Pad Thai or Pad See Ew, Panang Curry, and Roast Duck. Will not disappoint.

Small and clean restaurant in a strip mall. Crowded place for lunch on a Saturday. My group of six was fortunate to grab the last big table at our time of visit. When we left, there were folks waiting in line already. Some dishes I loved; others I found average. The calamari was fried perfectly and wasn’t chewy. The duck was ok. Pad kee Mao noodles was delicious. The pork belly in two dishes was on the dry side for me. I loved the sticky rice with taro dessert. My ginger drink (ginger and honey) was a delicious blend! Staff were super friendly and fast. Clean restroom. Lots of parking in the complex.

Rating: 4/5 Delicious Food with Excellent Service Must be thai is a great spot to enjoy authentic food. The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming, which added to the overall experience. One of the highlights was how efficiently they managed reservations—we were seated within 5 minutes of arriving, which deserves major kudos! The food was absolutely delicious, with every dish full of flavor and prepared to perfection. If you’re looking for a place with great food and top-notch service, The restaurant is definitely worth visiting.

Must be Thai offers more of a street food style cuisine and food was decent. The Crispy Fried Calamari with cuttlefish was especially delicious: crispy, tender, full of flavor, and not oily. The Tom Yum soup was spicy and flavorful, though a bit light on ingredients. I also enjoyed the assorted meatball appetizer with sweet chili sauce, and the fried rice was well-seasoned, although the texture was mushy — possibly a one-off issue with the rice cooker that day. Unfortunately, the dining environment was a major letdown. There were flies everywhere — even inside my drinking cup — and the table was sticky. The utensils wasn’t clean either. While the food is good, the lack of cleanliness makes it hard to fully enjoy the experience. If that doesn’t bother you, the food is worth a try.

When we came on Saturday lunch time , it was fully house and we even had to wait for a table. I was looking forward to it because I saw so many people waiting. But to be honest, I'm a little disappointed. The food was too salty, and because it was too salty, I cannot tell the food is delicious. Thai restaurants are everywhere, and it’s almost impossible to eat bad Thai food ! Papaya salad : $14.19 A little bit sour and fish sauce too heavy Pad see you w / beef : average $19.75 Crispy calamari: great , light crispy $ 15.55 Pork belly : $26 but too salty Service is friendly !

Must Be Thai is a decent spot, but it seems to have lost its charm over time. We asked for spicy drunken noodles but ended up with a bland and overly greasy dish. The Tom Yum soup was okay but felt too heavy on the coconut for our liking. Overall, the flavors were underwhelming, and the experience was just average.

Must Be Thai offers a decent dining experience, but there are some clear areas for improvement. Here’s a detailed breakdown: Pad Thai: The Pad Thai was underwhelming. It lacked the bold flavors and balance that make this dish a favorite in Thai cuisine, leaving it feeling flat and unremarkable. Panang Curry: The Panang Curry was a bright spot. It had a rich, creamy flavor and paired well with rice, making it one of the more enjoyable dishes on the menu. Pricing and Portions: The pricing is a major downside. The portions are surprisingly small for the steep prices, making it hard to justify the cost, even for the better dishes. Service: The service was average at best. While the staff were polite, the wait time after placing the order was noticeably long, which detracted from the overall experience. Ambience: The ambience is a highlight of the restaurant. It’s modern, clean, and inviting, creating a pleasant atmosphere for dining. Overall, Must Be Thai delivers on certain flavors, like the Panang Curry, but misses the mark with its Pad Thai, pricing, and service efficiency. While the ambience is lovely, the value for money needs significant improvement.

The food tastes good but is really savory. The portion of the appetizer is tiny. Overall, the food is okay. However, the water is disgusting. It tastes like leftover wash water, with the taste of food, and is salty. Seriously gross.

I ordered Khao Moo Daeng here for takeout, and I have to be honest, I’m very disappointed. The meat was simply cold, and the egg seemed like it had just been taken out of the fridge. The only thing that was heated was the rice. Unfortunately, it wasn’t freshly prepared, and the food was inedible. For the price, I expected more.
