Okayama Xpress San Jose Reviews
Fair prices and fresh tasting sushi. Clean interior and friendly waiting service. This isn't one of those restaurants where you'll have to wait till you're choking for them to refill your water. One time I was asked if everything was OK while my mouth was full of chewed up sushi. I nodded and appreciated the attentiveness 😁.
I went there with a friend, we had salmon bento and tempura bento, fried scallop appetizer and green tea. It was good taste and quality wise, the tempura was above standard and my friend got a lot of salmon. The scallop appetizer was big enough for two people, thank goodness the waitress misunderstood our orders and just brought us one. The bill came to just a bit under $50 which is about right these days and pretty good considering how well we were waited on and the quality and quantity of food.
A pleasant surprise it's a hidden gem that I am so glad I stumbled on try the Lobster Special appetizer enough for 4 people. a And the green dragon roll the Bento box is also excellent with many choices. The excellent service tops it off!!
Friendly and accommodating staff. The bentos were out quick and tasted good . I modified mine to replace the rice with more salad and they were flexible enough to do it.
Great big portions on the Bento Boxes! Had enough for leftovers. Consistent, fast, middle scale on prices.
As a former professional sushi chef, I love Mom & Pop shops. Cold beers on a hot day in SJ! I had the 3 piece dinner combo, large beer 🤙🏽
I go to this place for lunch once a week. Delicious always fresh food. Their soup is my favorite, and the owners are amazing. They always greet you with a smile.
This evening a group of 3 of us went to have an early dinner. I found out that this is a family-run business. Annie serves in the front and her husband is the chef in the back. You can tell they put their heart and pride into their service. The atmosphere is perfect for conversation, no loud music and tables are well spaced. We had a wonderful sashimi salad, a sashimi plate (salmon/tuna) ordered 2 rolls. The Hawaiian & The Pink Lady. My husband ordered udon and tempura. The sashimi was very fresh and the rolls were tasty. Miso soup was also served to each of us. We had several refills of hot tea. We stayed and chatted for a while and never felt rushed. We left full and pleased with our experience.
I had never been to this sushi spot and I love sushi! Went in and I was the only one in the whole place. The experience was awesome and food came quick. The fish was delicious and worth every penny. I highly recommend this if you enjoy sushi!
A brilliant bento box, with a great selection of choices. I had the tripple bento, with teriyaki beef, chicken katsu and tuna nigiri. All were great and served quickly with a lovely miso soup that really hit the spot! Excellent value for money in this area and a great place to go.
Nice place for a weekday lunch. The service was quick and the food tasted great. I ordered a couple of rolls and they threw in a miso soup. The place looked small at first but there is more seating at the back. We ended up chatting for quite a while and didn't feel rushed. I didn't see anyone having to wait for a table.
Small hole in the wall where not only is the food delicious and fresh, but the service is incredible. Never had to wait for anything requested but they werent pushy either. Fine balance of being there just enough for every request. Had two items from complete opposite sides of the menu and both were on point.
Great place. We ordered from here multiple times, tried various rolls, bento boxes, everything always tastes awesome. When visiting in person, prefer to take noodles: they are delicious when fresh, and the portions are enormous. Will definitely visit: order from here again.
What an awesome place! This place is tucked away in a strip mall. I happened to run across this restaurant while staying at the nearby Homewood Suites hotel. I ordered the bento box for dinner. At first I thought it was pricey but you definitely get your money's worth! The atmosphere is quiet and the service is fast and friendly. I wish this restaurant would work out a discount program with the nearby hotel. This would draw a lot more customers in.
The food is fresh and amazing. The service is extremely quick and efficient. The prices are in line with the portions.

Food was prepared quickly! I ordered the 2 item Bento lunch special with teriyaki chicken and California roll. It was delicious and totally satisfied this pregnancy craving. The Service was impeccable and will definitely be coming back.

They definitely deliver on the “Express” for sure! They were fast and efficient! Called for pick up and was ready in 10 minutes! I would say the sushi was decent but only bc the price felt more on the high end for decent sushi. If price was a few dollars less per roll, then they’re sushi would match. The 3 rolls were $60. The Fantasy roll was our favorite out of the three. We’ll definitely come back and try some others. For now…decent for the quickest and closeness…if tasted better and more interesting rolls then would’ve given 5 out of 5.
Great sushi. The rolls that we purchased were all very hefty (larger in diameter cut into very thick slices). These were very tasty but difficult to eat in a refined manner. Luckily they had better structural integrity than is typical so could be eaten most without falling apart (most of the time). So far I have not been overly impressed with sushi in the San Jose area.
Fast service, good rice and salad, but I have had better katsu chicken and miso soup. I understand it is meant as quick and affordable lunch though, and also could be too picky on Japanese food, so four stars.
I really enjoyed my visit to this place. All around the food was very good. If you like fish katsu, get it. You get a lot. I prefer more variety so the bento box works for me. Definitely lots of options in this shopping center.
Ordered the lobster special roll. I wish the description said that it was tempura lobster because if it did, I would have ordered something else. Overall, there was plenty of lobster and kani. The roll was tasty enough. Also, ordered the green salad. The dressing was good and the salad was a good size for the price.
This place certainly gets busy during lunch hours! I usually just come by for pick up, but I will occasionally dine-in here too. My go-to is the futomaki (vegetarian friendly)! It has shitake mushrooms, cucumber, tamago, pickled radish, and carrot. Very filling and healthy for a small lunch. I also recommend their lunch bento specials! Pretty good prices for the portions. I like the 2 Item Bento. This is personally a good portion for me. I love the quality of their salmon here, so I like to order the salmon nigiri. I have also tried the Chicken Katsu and the Saba (Grilled Mackeral) and they're both decent, but nothing crazy. I'm not a big fan of the miso soup here though.
Came here for Lunch with my sister. Everything was delicious. The service was fast and friendly. Definitely coming back to try more items.
I love love this sushi bento place. After covid made lots of delicious food places shut down I was glad this place is still here. You will love their bento boxes and sushi combos! One of my favorite places to eat.
Okayama Express!! This spot became one of my favorites - food, service, and location! I hate that I never remember which rolls I get after because I just get lost in the menu and order whatever sounds good I've been here twice and left very satisfied each time. It has never been busy the times I went so getting seated was very easy. The one roll that stood out out of the the six that I've tried was the Hawaiian Roll. That one is my favorite one so far. The vibe here is mellow, got a few rolls with some hot sake and beer. Can't wait to try their other rolls!! ~would recommend~
Good sushi options for lunch. They also had good service on the weekend when they're not too busy. We got a grilled salmon on the house! Parking was not a problem. All good!
Good service. Food wise, was a little disappointed. If you are looking for authentic Japanese cuisine, i am afraid its not. Judge for urselves. Food is fresh and delicious. Worth a try for sure

Had meant to visit this place for a while but finally did today. Came for lunch and got the Bento lunch special and I have to say it was pretty mid. None of the three proteins were bad but nothing that good either. It's passable yes but I just feel there's better options around. For the value it's ok, make sure you order from a server and not the QR code as well.

GOOD Open when other Japanese restaurants are closed OK Awesome Sashimi a salad-it looks good but the tuna was fishy-smelling and un-eatable. They need to do a taste test with other people who like tuna Sashimi and I'm sure they won't like it.

I have been here dozens of times. The food used to be really good. Last night however, was a huge disappointment. I ordered the 2 item bento box with Galbi short ribs. The ribs hardly had any meat on them. They were dry and tasteless, and looked to have been precooked and reheated for my order. Definitely not freshly made. I can't say I want to come back here anymore.
