Sri's Kitchen San Jose Reviews
The food was absolutely great. I took Thalia and was so full. It's also very cheap. Highly recommended. It tasted like how you'd cook at home. Everything was good.
A hidden gem in north san jose. They are very accommodating, service is good and food is excellent in taste. They are particular to what they serve the customers. They use high quality ingredients and very clean place.
A great spot for homestyle food. The dishes were flavorful and fresh, and the service was good. While the ambience feels a bit dated, the quality of the food makes up for it. Prices are very reasonable by Bay Area standards, especially for their thalis, which are definitely worth trying.
Loved the food at Sri’s Kitchen! Everything tasted fresh, authentic, and very homestyle. The menu has a great variety of South Indian dishes like dosas, idli, vada and thalis, so there’s something for everyone when group of friends come together. The dosas were crispy, the idlis were super soft, and the flavors felt comforting and well balanced. Portions are good and prices are reasonable too. Overall, a great spot in San Jose for simple, delicious Indian food. Will definitely be coming back! 😋🍽️
Loved the authentic South Indian flavors here. The dosa had the perfect balance of crisp and softness, and the Mysore bonda was fresh, light, and well-seasoned. Truly comforting food!
As a regular customer, I'd love to share my experience at Sri’s kitchen , a simple South Indian vegetarian restaurant that's a must-visit! The hospitality is warm and welcoming, making you feel like you're dining at home. Their dishes are authentic, flavorful, and freshly prepared - I'm obsessed with their crispy dosas, rich sambars, and aromatic filter coffee. The staff is super courteous, and the owner even takes the time to greet guests and offer recommendations. Trust me, the taste and quality are worth every penny. With its traditional decor and comfortable seating.
Home style quality vegetarian food with a variety of options. Full / mini Thali options with 5 or 7 choice of sides with a special rice / papad / chutney complementary side., Wonderful quality and taste., Mini Thali itself is very filling. Limited dine in space but can sit out and eat as well.
The menu prices in the website have not been updated. For example, packet of 10 tawa rotis is shown for $7 but the actual price is $8. Most dishes are too spicy (hot) for my liking. The quality of food is good, service is good, atmosphere is good.
Came here on a weekday evening for some quick snacks after work. pretty casual spot, more of a cafeteria setup with curries laid out. Water and utensils were all self serve. I got the punugulu and cut mirchi bajji. Both were just okay. The punugulu came with coconut chutney. The bajji wasn’t spicy but tasted better with the sauce they gave. Food came out quick but didn’t feel super fresh. Prices were very reasonable though. parking was easy. I’d come back to try more since the menu was massive!
We just chanced upon this place by accident, the setting is pretty average, but don’t be fooled by that the menu is pretty decent and the food is good too for the price you pay. Nothing stands out like wow, but you won’t be disappointed either, it’s busy like there is a steady inflow of customers. Not very spicy just an extension of home food.
Not for the faint of hearted when it comes to spicy foods. Ordered a ragi masala dosa and plain idlis—sambhar was hot as was the dosa!! We barely had the sambhar. The food tasted quite good (note that we had scorched taste buds). The prices were higher than what you see on the menus on Google Maps—likely yet to be updated. Well located but we went on a holiday so parking was easy to find—but given its location I’d say it may be hard on a working day—it is in a big commercial hub. I did find the food slightly on the pricier side but might be because of the location as well.
I ordered takeout of mini thali and masala Dosa from this place. The price is very reasonable and affordable. The food was ready right on time. The masala Dosa tasted decent. Some of the items on the mini Thali tasted great whereas the others not so much. The tamarind rice and roti were very good. There is typically 4 entree items in the mini thali. The cauliflower item and the fried veggies tasted delicious whereas there were 2 dal items which were not great. One was plain watery. The curd rice didn't taste great at all and was smelly. Overall, a very good budget-friendly option to get good Indian veg food.
I live nearby so wanted to give this place another try as it’s been years since I have had their food. I got poori and potato curry to go. Poori was more like bhathura in my opinion, as it had less of whole wheat flavor and texture of a traditional poori. Potato bhaji was tad spicy overall flavor is ok, nothing to write home about but not terrible either. But it felt more like onion gravy with scant amount of potato pieces , would have preferred a little more potato. Not sure it was worth $9.99 personally, but those without discerning tastebuds may enjoy this dish.
Had been to Sri’s Kitchen for lunch. Food was mediocre quality, served on paper plates with plastic spoons and forks. It’s basically a dine in self-service - order at the counter and discard your plates in the bin. Maybe the place is meant to be just a grab and go hence the paper plates and plastic spoons.
Can I please get my money back? This was such a waste of $25, and honestly would appreciate a refund, as the food was not good at all. The dosa shell, crepe, is the only thing I liked here, so thus they get 1 star. I do realize that I was there closer to 9:30pm, and closing time was around the corner, however, I'm still paying the same amount of money as the customer who comes at 1pm. The potato inside the dosa wasn't fresh, it was very watery, not like a firm mashed potato that is usually served inside a dosa. The coconut Chutney had a bitter aftertaste, while the ginger Chutney was strong, and over powering, and definitely not traditionally served with South Indian Dosa. The Sambhar (Lentil soup) was thick, and killed with salt, it was absolutely inedible, and I did take it back to the guy behind the counter, who offered to make me another one, but I was so turned off, and refused. Next is the Pani Puri, sorry excuse for this item even being called that. In perspective, a box of 50 pieces of the shells cost about $8, and here you are charged $8.49+tax for 6 pieces, rip off. On top of that the potatoes were HOT, and watery, there was waaay too much Tamarind, so it was very sour, and looked dark brown, and the onions which accompanied it smelled like they were sitting out all day, like someone's arm pit after working in the summer sun, straight up B.O. The two "Panis"(water) that were served were disgusting, the food color in the green one which tasted like there was cucumber juice in it, had no salt, chaat masala, seasoning, and the reddish one was a diabetic's worst nightmare, doused with straight syrup. There was no balance of flavor, in this dish, and above all, the shells were on the verge of being stale, as they lacked a crisp crunch. I wish I had spoken up before I left this restaurant, to show them how these dishes are made, if they are interested in learning. Never going back here again, and I do hope to get a refund.
I'm incredibly disappointed to share my experience with Sri's Kitchen, as the catering provided for my wife's Seemantham was a complete failure. This event was very important to us, with many elders and special guests in attendance, and the food was a major letdown. We chose your service specifically for this milestone event, and it was a deeply embarrassing experience. We ordered a Satvik menu with the expectation that it would be delicious, but most of the dishes were inedible. The baby corn 65 was hard and difficult to chew, the Kosumbari was excessively salty, and the green beans curry was completely bland. The vegetable pulao tasted like poorly made lemon rice with undercooked basmati rice. The only items that were satisfactory were the paneer butter masala, roti, and mango pickle. The quality was so poor that our guests could not eat the food, and we were forced to dispose of roughly 50% of the order. This not only wasted a significant amount of money but also created a deeply unpleasant memory for an otherwise joyous occasion. When I shared this feedback, the owner was receptive but ultimately defensive, claiming that Satvik food naturally lacks flavor. I wholeheartedly disagree with this excuse, as I have had many wonderful Satvik meals elsewhere. The quality of the food we received was not a matter of style but of poor execution. I cannot, in good conscience, recommend Sri's Kitchen to anyone and will not be returning to your restaurant.
Update : Compared to my first review 11 months ago the experience has just gone south. This restaurant falls under DO NOT GO List. I am not sure if the management has changed recently,?. There is nothing homely here, and the price is not justified too. ——————— This is my first time order from this restaurant and honestly it tasted super good. Ordered Thali(Lunch), Good Quantity/variety. You get that home food feeling, the spice levels are just perfect. ———————- Update : Once you look at other restaurants in the area this now feels Average.
