Coffee Commissary San Leandro Reviews
Delicious! The sashimi cuts were so generous, and the food came out so quickly. Reasonably priced. Service was attentive and excellent. This may be my new favorite sushi spot!
This spot has quickly become a local favorite, and we've now celebrated multiple birthdays here — it never disappoints. As a photographer and visual person, I'm drawn to places where the food is as beautiful as it is delicious, and this restaurant consistently delivers on both fronts. The staff is welcoming and genuinely helpful. On our most recent visit, we had a wonderful young woman who took real time with her personal recommendations — the kind of service that keeps you coming back. (I also keep my reviews partly so I can remember what to reorder next time!) From the happy hour menu, the Japanese tacos were tasty, though the deep-fried base felt a little heavy for my palate. The seared salmon, on the other hand, was absolutely outstanding — it practically begged to be photographed before eating. The sushi rolls are where this place truly shines. Our ride-or-die orders are the Sunshine roll and the ahi tower — we get them every single visit. Past favorites include the SF Giants roll, perfectly balanced with a jalapeño kick, and the Girl on Fire, which is impressively satisfying though slightly heavy on the tempura dusting. The Angry Mermaid was a hit too, though a touch lemony — we'd order it again and just ask for less lemon. Our new obsession is the Titanic — tuna, salmon, and shrimp tempura — which was simply amazing. Our server also recommended the Butterfly roll for next time, so that's already on the list. We also ventured into the shrimp pizza, which was a fun and unexpected surprise. I loved it, even if my family may not want to get it the next time. The wide menu, gorgeous plates, and genuine hospitality make this a place we'll keep coming back to for every celebration.
Okay, this is a big mistake. I haven't updated this review for 7 years and I didn't realize that until today. Their food is pretty darn good. Have never been disappointed in the creative Sushi rolls. My favorites are the caterpillar roll and the dragon roll. We also got the tofu teriyaki plate at our last visit. I promise more pictures in the future.
Everyone is SO nice and attentive!! Top tier service as if it was grand opening day. Salmon sashimi is the freshest I’ve had in the east bay and are in large portions. Complimentary ice cream dessert as well! San Leandro’s little secret. Will come back!
Stopped in and tried a few different things at Angry Fish. Gave their sashimi combo a try- really loved the presentation of the sashimi and all cuts were great, generous with absolutely no fishy flavor and super fresh. I also had the king on fire roll and loved again its presentation as it comes out flaming and the flavor that imparts on the roll. Also enjoyed the deep-fried rolls they had here! Lastly, wanted to get a taste of the curry here and thought it was pretty decent, very peppery and found both the color and texture a bit off for me personally. They curry looked closer to a peanut butter color and when cooling had a rubbery texture seeming to have some corn starch slurry in its recipe, something I was surprised to think? It still tasted pretty great and I had it on its own; maybe the flavor and texture compliments with their katsu better. One thing I wanted to say was that the service was fantastic, our server was really attentive and made for a great dining experience. I was happy he took care of our table. I really also enjoyed the dining space, with lots of windows that were close to the diner's height so you get a nice view outside but still feeling like an intimate space. We could also see the cook's working which made for a lot of fun.
Easily one of the best sushi spots in east bay! The restaurant is very charming and relaxed. The staff also adds to the experience since they were all very attentive, kind and informative for their menu. I got hella stuff to try, and all the rolls were great. The sunshine roll stood out to me as being my favorite but really everything was great. If you’re in the neighborhood I’d definitely recommend coming here for either dine in or take out. The only thing I didn’t personally love was the grilled squid. But overall the prices are a lot better than what you’d get in SF. Every fish tastes fresh, and I always make a point to come here when in the San Leandro area.
Great sushi. Busy place. We had been going to Wakamatsu for so long that we never considered this place. The location is dumpy, but the clientele is smart and vibrant. Sushi done well. Recommended!
Excellent food and service! I was convinced by my friends to try it and so I did. It can get a little crowded but I was completely satisfied with their great service and tasty foods. 👌👍😋
Food is good decent prices for sure I ordered through uber eats so I can’t say much about the ambience at the restaurant. My only complaint is their $4 salad..it’s literally just lettuce and dressing 😒 not gonna lie the dressing was pretty good but I think adding a few more veggies to the salad could make the $4 a bit more justifiable. Other than that I ordered the angry mermaid it was good and had a slight kick to it from the jalapeños salmon is decent quality it won’t disappoint, miso soup was good it had good flavor and wasn’t watery like other places I been too. I didn’t get to take a photo of the whole order. I would order from here again.
Amazing fresh sushi and miso soup everything we tried was wonderful. The Anger Management roll was large enough that we each had two bites per one slice. The Unagi Pizza was interesting and tasty but we were full so packed it home. The rib eye steak bento box offered the best variety with tempura veggies, California roll and the beef. Everything was fresh and fast and the staff was very friendly. I would recommend the Angry Fish, "greatest little secret of San Leandro"
Excellent customer service and very impressive happy hours menu (ending late at 7p, Fried Chicken Soft Bone is a must try). I have yet to try their variety of toro (bluefin tuna) as they’ve run out of it every time. I’d definitely come back for that soon and hopefully to improve my food rating.
Our first visit was pleasant. The server was friendly and the food was good. It’s very chilly inside so be sure to bring a jacket if you get cold easily. There is one restroom that is fairly well maintained but the floor was a bit wet. Parking is plentiful at lunch time. My favorite items were the uni nigiri ($20 2pc) and ankimo spoons ($8.95 2pc). The uni was great quality and did not have a fishy taste. If I had the budget, I would’ve gotten two orders. I did order the ankimo as nigiri but got the spoons instead so there was a bit of miscommunication. Luckily, it was still delicious. I would pass on the Birds Nest ($18 2pc) because it’s hard to eat and not a very pleasant eating experience. All the parts of it were good but it just didn’t work together and it was hard to eat. The salmon was a bit thick and there wasn’t enough rice. Without soy sauce, I’m not sure I could’ve gotten it down. The rolls were average, Fairytale ($15.95) and Dragon ($13.95), but the ratio of toppings to rice was good. The 14-piece sashimi combo ($31.95) doesn’t come with a lot of variety of fish but good nonetheless. It also comes with a large portion of miso soup and salad. We also got one bowl of sushi rice on the side which they didn’t add to the bill. We had leftovers so the server helped pack up our food for us which always elevates the dining experience. A service fee of 15% is already added to the bill and that’s fine with me as I usually tip more. They do take payment at the table with a tablet and you can add more tip if you’d like. If I’m in the area and craving sushi, I wouldn’t mind coming back. I’m interested in their raw oyster promotions and trying their hot meals.
It's been six years since I was last here. Now September 2024 and a bit stunned when I received the check. I was disappointed to notice that this restaurant has added a 15% tip automatically on the bill. On top of that if you don't notice it's still asking for a tip. I was in shock that they still expect people to give a tip on top of a forced tip. The food is great and and service. But this tip situation with out any advanced notice or removing the tip information on the receipt leaves a bad impression of the owner ship.
