McCarthy's Irish Pub San Luis Obispo Reviews
A nice place with atmosphere Staff's friendly and I loved the patio area You can order super tasty hotdogs "over the wall" Not the best pics for sure But I'm going back
Awesome place to hang out. Friendly bar tenders. Great service. Love the local vibe here.
What a fun place! I had sent my fiance here last week when he was driving home from Harmony, and he said he really had a great time. So when I was back in town and we were driving back from Hearst castle, we had to stop here. The bartenders were so friendly and we met Diane, and what a treat she was!! Hopefully we can go back and meet her again and get to know the regulars here. Good times indeed!!
We were back in town for a college event and decided to stop by for a few drinks. It was the same as we remembered from back in 1999. Same feel and warm vibes. Great service and stuff drinks

Spent a weekend in SLO and decided to check out some of the bars. Google Maps found us this pub. Went to a bar before getting here (Black Sheep) and had terrible service there. Service here is fast, the bartenders were very friendly and we enjoyed a few pints of Guinness. This is one of those bars that you would call your regular.
A good place to drink Jameson's. They were the largest Jameson's distributor in the U.S. so clearly they cater to the Irish Whiskey lovers. The staff is friendly and attentive. We stop every time we're in town. Years later and still a favorite. Staff still friendly as ever. Grab a shirt or hoodie while there.
Great dive bar in SLO. There is a nice outdoor patio area so you can enjoy the perfect SLO weather. There is also a free shuffleboard table inside, which is fun. They have a great beer selection and play classic rock and roll here. It's a more relaxed hang out compared to other places in town.
This place deserves all of its one star reviews lol, which makes it my favorite dive. Unbelievably great beers, terrible service, dim lighting and lovely events.
I haven't eaten here yet but the bartenders here are so spot on amazing it's unbelievable. They see me approaching and my drink set up is on the bar just the way I like it. I love it here and everybody is loads more fun than a barrel full of monkeys. I prefer the daytime/early evening cast of local characters and hard working folks who have manners, intelligence, and moral fiber, which is sorely lacking these days. McCarthy's is the shizzz!
Night life experience This place is low key and off the map. Away from busy college student bars. If you get there before 10pm you might be able to grab a seat. There is outdoor seating. The indoor seating is limited. The women's bathrooms are clean. When I arrived there was no cover charge like the other bars downtown.
I've stopped here 2 years in a row on my travels. This place is awesome! The outside area accommodates smokers and is spacious. Inside the staff are helpful and conversational. I wish I lived by this place. It is a dive because the drinks are reasonable and it is not well lit; these are two things I look for in a bar honestly.

For a Friday evening it was mellow, casual & still Happy Hour @ 645pm. Nice varied crowd at each location ie; inside bar, outside patio, shuffleboard area & excellent service from behind the bar! which was a welcoming surprise🙂🍻

Bouncer shoved me. I told him if I was in the way, I’d move, but please don’t touch me. He shoved me harder and said if I didn’t like it, get out. Is he this rude to everyone, or homophobic? This was the bouncer

Bartender with a mustache didn’t wash his hands after the bathroom
Local dive bar with a dark mood where many locals prefer to congregate. Service will vary depending on how often you frequent the spot, with regulars getting better service than others that aren't as dependant on booze and the grimy spot at which to consume it. This location has no reservations about overserving its customers, so definitely expect to encounter some mouthy patrons and even fighting from time to time. Moreover, the bouncers allow the regulars to bully other customers and are granted a separate set of rules. The short bouncer with a beard simply watched as a frequent patron assaulted my friend on the property but couldn't be bothered to do his job. Very low character folks here... Count me out! Yuck!!
Bartenders made it clear of you're not a local or regular then you do not matter. My wife and I came in while moving our daughter to Cal Poly and was treated terribly by the male bartender (although the bar back with the mustache was amazing)... after reading the owners comment on a negative review it made sense. As a pub owner myself I was disgusted on how poorly the non regulars were treated. This type of service wouldn't last long if it wasn't placed in a college town.
The bartender with a pony tail was the single rudest person I have ever encountered. Other than that the bar was great and so was everyone else, but he ruined the entire experience and should be gone.
Bouncer needs an ego check and a lesson on discrimination. Showed up with a few friends for our first stop of the night, visiting SLO as Cal Poly Almuni. The bouncer denied us because someone we weren’t associated with (just walked up in front of us) was too drunk. He immediately grouped us in with this random and turned us away. We tried to explain but he wouldn’t listen, and was very rude and aggressive. If he decided he doesn’t want our business on behalf of his bosses and owners, I hope they understand the lengths he is going to and how he’s treating would-be customers.
I ordered a beer that was ten bucks and sat at the bar, and the bartender told me to get up n go because I’m not tipping. I was like bruh fr, i gotta go cause I didn’t tip for a single beer as a college student? Then he stabbed me six times and I just left cause I was done with that place. For real tho crazy that I can’t even hang without tipping ig🤷♂️. Tipping culture crazy nowadays, when I work I do not expect a tip especially if I were doing something easy like filling a glass. Fully recovered from the wounds now tho
Do not come to this place if Cody is bartending. He’s skinny light skin guy on a power trip, wears t-shirts, blond brown hair. Yelled at my mother in law for resting her eyes in the pub. Could have asked any of the 4 of us having a good time but wanted to be a huge “dock about it.” Avoid coming here if he’s is here. Top of all that his drinks was trash. Would give no stars if I could

Worst pub in SLO. Horrible service and filthy. We were welcomed by rats crawling across the floor and and the staff were rude and unhelpful. 100% the worst pint of Guinness I’ve had in California - spend your money elsewhere.
