Umami Sushi San Marcos Reviews
The sashimi and sushi were super delicious and fresh! The quality of this restaurant is incredible! The service was one of the best we've ever had in San Marcos! The server was super attentive! We will definitely be back!
Umami sushi is the spot to go to if you're craving sushi in smtx. High quality fish, great prices/portions, and friendly service. Highlights included their hama kama served two ways; sashimi style and then grilled and their spicy scallop hand roll.
This place was so delicious! They even had gluten free soy sauce ... A++++ , several items in the pictures have gluten, but I had two other friends with me that have no allergy issues. They guys working there were all so very friendly and complimentary! Definitely going back!
My partner and I came here a few weeks ago for new weekly wed date night! We love it and have come back every week since. Everyone is so kind, and it is HIGH QUALITY!! You can go up the road to Kobe and spend the same amount but much less quality. Thank u Unami and Macie! See you next week!
Absolute gem. Echolar was incredible, the sauce is out of this world. Steam buns were very good. We ordered the Little Tokyo and Miso Hot rolls and were blown away. Wait staff were so sweet, parking was very easy, perfect date night.
An absolutely generational run in terms of songs. Old school Beyoncé, Mariah Carey, Suavemente. Whoever was controlling he music needs a raise right now. I am writing this review while still eating. The food is great, but I really need to rave about the music taste of this mysterious employee.
No other restaurant ever seems to compare to this amazing sushi spot. I’ve been coming here for years and it’s the best sushi I’ve ever eaten. Great atmosphere inside with fantastic music and delicious food. You can’t beat it.
My 2 college kids insisted on going here for sushi, and I'm glad we did.. took the whole fam, and we were satisfied.. It happened to be HH, which allowed us to try a whole gang of stuff.. .majority of our orders were from the HH menu and a few from the regular menu.. The food was good, and our server was nice and attentive.. it was also early dinner time (530pm) and only 2 other customers were there.. There were 5 of us, and one thing that stood out was that even though we all ordered a bunch of things, they managed to make sure our plates only contained what each ordered for themselves.. there have been times that we've gotten random plates with random rolls/nigiri (elsewhere), so that was a plus!
I recently visited this sushi restaurant, and I must say, it was an incredible experience! The rice they use is excellent, perfectly complementing their creative sushi rolls. I was impressed by the variety of options they offered, and the quality of the fish was outstanding. They also have a fantastic selection of drinks to choose from, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating, making the dining experience even more enjoyable. I tried their volcano sushi, nigiri, and edamame, all of which were fresh and delicious. In my opinion, this is hands down the best sushi place in all of San Marcos!
Been here a couple times now on dates; never fails to impress. The Salmon Nigiri will change your life. The Mellow Yellow roll was my favorite - good luck not getting it stolen from right out under your chopsticks! The staff is young, fast, energetic, and kind. Our waitress was friendly and recommended the seared toro which was a treat (pictured). We've tried a few other places that are closer to the house but this is now our go-to spot for sushi and more.
I have eaten at Umami Sushi twice now and I have to say, the El Diablo roll is one of the best rolls I have ever eaten. Their fish is very fresh in general (the attached picture is Tuna Sashimi), and I love the natural feel to their decor. It is located RIGHT next to campus, and I would recommend anyone stopping in if you're looking for great sushi at a reasonable price. Also worth noting - they have a sushi bar. The sushi chefs are very friendly and I always enjoy the experience of being able to watch them make all the rolls being ordered. I will definitely be returning.
Great food and staff. The escolar and salmon nigiris are all super good. Also really affordable for sushi that feels like good quality. I always crave it on Sundays though :(
Its a pretty damn good sushi place. Not many places in San Marcos really offer a "higher" quality sushi. Their pricing is a bit steep, with some specialty rolls priced above 15$. Their rolls are unique though, and recently they've begun stepping up their happy hour and daily specials game, so I highly reccomend following their Instagram and coming during those times. Their ramyeon was delicious and quite cheap, and their fried gyoza is fantastic. Overall this is a wonderful place, just not the full 5 stars as I've had higher quality fish for a better price point. But still, pretty damn good!
I would have given this place 5 stars but the service was a little slow and they forgot a few things that we ordered. On the plus side, sushi is, as they say, edible art and the presentation on their dishes is amazing. The fish was fresh and the rice just as good as it should be. I thought the prices were a little expensive as they we were priced as singular pieces instead of coming in two pieces as they usually do at many sushi restaurants. I did try something i had never tried before which was the monkfish liver. It was amazing and I would highly recommend it. It's not fishy and it is very silky and buttery. Overall it was a great experience.
Not a bad spot for sushi, but the rolls are below par. Not a lot of options, most of them are fried. The poke nachos were a joke. Tortilla chips, just a lot of sauce, and tuna. Would definitely be better if they were loaded up a bit more, or just more variety. Also tortilla chips is just weird...if it would have said that on the menu I wouldn't have ordered them.
