The Shop Santa Barbara Reviews
The food was delicious flavor was really there. You order and then you choose your seat. Service was friendly. There is no actual parking lot you park on the street is the only downside.
Hard to come to Santa Barbara and not stop by for brunch. The quality of the food is incredible with interesting and unique options. I tried the rolex which was vegetables, eggs, avocado, and sauce rolled in freshly made African flatbread. Kind of like a breakfast burrito but a little different. I've been here a few times and the food never disappoints. The patio is such a vibe with the plants and lighting. Super fun to sit outside enjoying the beautiful weather and your food.
Absolutely amazing breakfast! Coffee was also some of the best I have had in years.
Great food (Shrimp and Grits were the best i’ve ever had!) but not a full service restaurant- (they do tell you when you get there) that you pay at the beginning and they bring you your food, and there’s not much indoor seating and it’s not very cozy or comfortable, when we asked for condiments they told us to go get it from a little bar, hmm too bad i tipped too much at the beginning then (i’ll just remember that for next time) but the food and drinks were so great it made up for all that!
This is a great place to go for Sunday brunch. The service was excellent and they follow clear safety protocols. Sitting outside was a nice experience. The food arrived quickly and was delicious. I'm not from the area, but the Shop Kitchen was worth the drive. My only issue was finding it from the street. They do not have a very prominent sign that catches the eye. But once you find it, you will see it was worth the effort.
Decided to check out my best friend's favorite brunch spot while checking out SB and it def did not disappoint!! Tug boat eggs benny were sooooo bomb🧂🍳🥚 and coffee was amazing ☕ everyone is soo friendly and service is speedy and efficient 🧡 def a covid safe place to come check out and didn't have to worry about crowding. Come check this place out the food is amazeballs and you will not regret trying ☕🍳
I always get the bulletproof coffee with no creamer. It has a little butter and some essential oils for caffeine, it is so good!! Today I got the Eastside toast which came with jalapeños, grilled onions and I added the carnitas. This has become one of my fast favorites when I come to Santa Barbara for work. Wonderful spot!!
This place was a great find! Delicious food and coffee. We got the avocado toast, breakfast sando, banana toast, and kids scramble. Highly recommend them all. Service was also very good and fast. We were so happy with our breakfast we also ordered lunch to go.
My wife and I dropped by twice on our trip to SB from Colorado, because it was so good! It appears to have been some kind of repair shop at some point in the past and they preserved the sign in the indoor dining room which was pretty cool. We ate outside which had a good view of the urban area and the hillside full of beautiful houses. I asked the team member who took our order what their favorite menu item was and ordered that. I can’t recall the name but it was a brunch sandwich consisting of eggs and fried chicken. So good. It’s what I ordered both visits. Their espresso is well pulled and the cold brew is also great on a hot day. When we come back in SB it’s on our list of places to eat.
Delicious food, especially breakfast/brunch items. I did expect the chilaquiles to have more flavor. Bland compared to others I've had and the chips were soggy. Parking a challenge.
Pretty dang good. Little bit of a mix up with our order, but was solved quickly.
Best breakfast burrito in SB! Love the vibes and atmosphere here, great staff!
Just awesome. Totally worth stopping by. We had the yolo (friend chicken, sausage gravy on a biscuit with a egg - so good, I really enjoyed it) and the eggs benedict with cured salmon (also really good). I'd have both again in a heartbeat. They cure the salmon in house which is a nice touch. The coffee was great, handlebar roaster beans re used - super smooth.
This place is an absolute gem. A total surprise. From the Bananas toast with housemade almond butter (I DIED) to the humble fab Sando breakfast sandwich to the slightly spicy hot chocolate... We tried like 5 things and they were all stellar. Gorgeous view of the sunshiny hills to one side and some vintage car love on the other. I aspire to bring something like this to Ventura someday, but in the meantime, we'll roll up to SB as needed to get our fix.
You order & pay at a window, they give you a number, and then it gets brought out to you. We got out food pretty quickly, i’d say it was about 7 minutes. Not too many people at all around noon on a Wednesday. We got the Frenchie ($13) and added fried chicken (+$5). The french toast itself was really good, I thoroughly enjoyed it. The fried chicken however was not worth it. It was just two tiny pieces, very thin and lacked any flavor. It was not worth the upgrade. The OJ is pricey but it was delicious. My girlfriend got a “Dirty Horchata”, it was good although the espresso shot and rum overpowered all the horchata flavor in my opinion. The outdoor seating was very spacious and had good vibes.
The Shop Kitchen was a new experience. Tucked in a fun neighborhood, we had brunch on the cozy patio. You give your order just before entering, so no wait for a server to get your order. The french toast / fried chicken combo was to die for served with a special honey , the shrimps and grits were also superstar , we had their regular coffee and it was hot and very flavorful. Go !
Had the popular Chilaqulies with carnitas, it was very good. Drizzled some cholula sauce over it and it set it over the top. Had plenty of outdoor seating and shade. The parking is very limited and may have to drive around the block to park. But nothing to out of the way. Definitely would like to try the variety of other items on the menu.
Awesome, fun, outdoors brunch spot pictured is the Tugboat with fried chicken. Absolutely amazing. the chicken was CRISPY on the outside and juicy on the inside. The coffee was fresh, hot, and tasty. We didn't try the drinks, but a table next to us got the mimosa flight and it looked delicious, will definitely have to try in the future.
This is a tiny little spot with only outdoor seating but the way they have done it, it feels like a garden instead of roadside. Very pretty. The food was amazing. I wanted to try everything on the menu so I will definitely be back. I had the beet salad that was almost too pretty to eat. All the ingredients were very fresh and crispy with a tangy dressing. We also tried the tri-tip sandwich that had some caramelized onions that were so good it was hard to believe. The meat was tender and lean. In my opinion, this is a must try. Maybe we will see you there.
I have been here twice and both times it has been absolutely delicious! My first time I got the Tugboat with fried chicken and the second time I got it with smoked salmon. I preferred the smoked salmon, but both were delicious! The prices are a little high, expect to spend around $20 for breakfast with a drink. But the quality is worth it and the flavors are amazing. I will highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a good brunch spot!
Edit: Came back 4 years after my original review and this place is still amazing. The best post-surf or hangover food. Came here with my girlfriend and we both loved it. Outside seating with an umbrella for shade at each table. No bathroom available during covid. Will definitely come again next time I’m in Santa Barbara.
Food is incredible and service was amazing. The person at the register was extremely patient as we ordered and the food came out super fast. Love this place and would highly recommend.
This is an awesome brunch spot! There was ample street parking and it wasn't even busy on a 9am Sunday. I got the shrimp and grits which was creamy, flavorful, and light. My husband got the Like-a-Tiger (egg white omelette) with avocado. The side of potatoes were crispy and almost like chips. I will definitely come back again if I find myself in the area.
Nice outdoor seating. Avo Toast with an egg was filling. Frenchy with fried chicken rocks! Coffee was just adequate. Be sure to grab some of the hot sauce, it leveled up the Avo Toast. No line on a Sunday morning, which was nice compared to some of the places on State St we passed on the way here that looked like they had hours long lines.
Came into town and was looking for something locally owned and found The Shop Kitchen and I am glad that we did! Fresh, unique flavor. We had the chicken, biscuits and gravy. The gravy was to die for. We also got the egg white veggie omelette with potatoes. Unbelievably fresh, great service and the house hit sauce is incredible.
I took the whole crew here for lunch. Everything was delicious. I highly recommend if you are looking for a good burrito or chicken and waffles. Great spot for the whole family!
Cute little brunch spot with nice outdoor seating to enjoy the Santa Barbara weather. Definitely gets busy but we got here right before the rush hour. We ordered the Yolo and the Tugboat with curee salmon. The Yolo came with fried chicken, fried egg over a biscuit with a side of sausage gravy. The sausage gravy was very flavorful and had lots of sausage bits in it. Fried chicken was crispy and juicy. The Tugboat is an egg benedict on top of an avocado and biscuit. You can choose your protein, we decided on the classic cured salmon and it did not disappoint. Hollandaise sauce was made perfectly and the poached eggs were the right consistency. They also didn't skimp on the salmon. We also ordered the hibiscus drink as well as the mocha latte. It's a little pricy but definitely worth it. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a good brunch spot.
Went to this place twice now and I think this will be my go to place whenever I'm in Santa Barbara. It's located in a quieter part of the city and open air seating is quite nice. We had the Like a Tiger, Salmon Toast, and Frenchie. Frenchie has basil but not like any basil I've tasted. It looked and tasted like candied basil and added something unique to the dish. Like a Tiger is an egg white omelet loaded with veggies and is also a unique dish but so good. I'm looking forward to my next trip here.
The fried chicken and wagyu burritos are pure perfection. Worth it 🔥
This was a great find in Santa Barbara. When we first walked in, the selection of music playing was good. The outside seating was nice as well in the SB weather. The line was a bit long, so if you don't like waiting about 5-10 minutes to order your food, you best get here a little early. The food was so good. I definitely recommend the tip sandwich and the Tijuana wrap. They also have a good brunch menu as well. Great food, great atmosphere, good service, what else can you ask for? I'm not sure, but I am sure satisfied with this restaurant.
Delicious! Many options from healthy to decadent. The egg white omelette was awesome, loaded with squash, avocado, onions, etc. The dish with friend chicken, biscuits as gravy (YOLO) was awesome. The fried chicken was juicy as moist. Loved it.
Really great brunch spot. I got the fried chicken breakfast burrito which came with eggs, potatoes, and guacamole. It was hands down perfect. The price was reasonable. Definitely recommend trying it out
Awesome place will definitely return!! I had the LIKE A TIGER omelette and the others had avocado toast m the toast was so thick and tasted amazingly fresh! Their omelette was fantastic!! And their drinks are really good!! Service was also good. You order/pay first then they seat you. Very good experience and I will most definitely come back!!
Got a flat tire driving back to LA so stopped in while waiting for the shop to fix me up. The servers are super nice and helpful in giving me suggestions for what activities to entertain myself with while I’m here, the music is top tier, the patio is lovely, and the chicken and waffles are absolutely to die for. 10/10 would get a flat tire here again
I went to The Shop Brunch in Santa Barbara last weekend, and honestly, it was a great spot overall. It’s pretty casual—you walk up to the counter, place your order, and then grab a seat wherever you can find one. The first thing I noticed was the vibe—kind of modern, clean, and laid-back. It feels local, not overly touristy. I got there around 10:30 AM on a Saturday, and it was already pretty crowded, so if you don’t like waiting, I’d recommend going early or on a weekday.
Amazing brunch at The Shop! We ordered the wagyu steak sando, fried chicken breakfast burrito, and mimosa flight and loved it all. The burrito cheese was really great and balanced well with the rest of the burrito. We sat on the dog friendly patio. Very friendly staff and didn’t need to wait too long for the food. Recommend!
The chilaquiles served here have been some of the best I’ve ever had! I had to go back and take my husband to see what all my fuss was about. We also ordered the chorizo tacos, matcha, and horchata coffee with a side of avocado 🥑 which were all amazing! Definitely my favorite brunch spots. Coming back again for more!
Fun atmosphere. Lots of outdoor seating. Some indoor seating. My husband liked his Chorizo Burrito and rated it a 5. I had the Sando with veggies. The sauce that came with it was very tasty. The small guacamole side was a bit salty. The fried potatoes were good though again a bit too salty for my taste. We went early on a Sunday and weren't in the mood for their fried chicken which I would like to try. I would go back. Agree with other reviews that parking is a challenge.
This place is called the shop, because it's housed in an old auto shop (the original sign is still out front). You order your food at a walk-up window, and they bring your food out to you. The outdoor patio is very pleasant, and we appreciated the shade the umbrellas provided. Even though the restaurant is on busy Milpas Street, it's landscaped with tall shrubs that create an effective barrier. My husband and I enjoyed a very pleasant and delicious brunch. The coffee was excellent, the fresh fruit and yogurt parfait was delicious, and the Benedict with the fried chicken was amazing (we split it, and it was enough to satisfy both of us). The eggs were perfectly poached and still runny. We both agreed it might be the best breakfast sandwich we've ever experienced. We will be back!
This is a little counter-serve spot with some inside and outside seating. The outside seating area was nice and sunny with some umbrellas for shade. Unfortunately, it's also next door to an auto shop, so there was some disruptive engine revving in an otherwise quiet spot. The drinks seem a bit pricey for what you get (we ordered a mimosa and a beer). We each ordered a "tugboat" (benedict on a biscuit). I'm a massive fan of biscuits so maybe I was expecting too much, but again, the price seemed a little high for the quality. The eggs were nicely poached. Mine was topped with fried chicken - I was expecting white meat but it was dark and a little oily for my tastes. His was topped with carnitas. It was good but rich, as expected. Overall, a decent brunch for sure, but there are better to be had for the cost.
When I got there I noticed that you had to order first nd pay before they take you to a table either inside or outside. I felt pressured to order quickly, I should have stand aside and let others order first. I didn’t enjoy the fact they have very limited dairy free options. Their signature dishes looked so good but for my case not aplicable (contained dairy). The customer service at the order and sitting needs work, a more professional approach instead of an indifferent one. I gave it a four star because the employees in the kitchen were very nice, attentive and friendly and because their water service is a do it yourself and didn’t seemed the most hygienic when refilling it. It is still a great idea, I see how is beneficial for the restaurant. But for my personal experience I prefer the full service. The food was good, I gave it a four star because I some dishes had sides with a bland flavor. The environment was very nice, I enjoy an outdoor restaurant surrounded by plants. Overall, I wouldn’t go back only because of the limited dairy free dishes. But I do recommend to those that don’t have those restrictions to try it out.
We ordered the yolo and the Benedict with carnitas. Food was pretty good. Highlight of the two meals was the fried chicken and biscuit. The gravy from the yolo was a bit under flavored as was the carnitas served with the Benedict. However, they have a really good house hot sauce (not very spicy) that really made the Benedict and carnitas enjoyable. We also had a cappuccino, which the espresso was made very well. Over all recommend!
The food was really good and they made fast. Had the carnitas burrito and was full of flavor and the portion was big. My fiance had de la tigre which was a veggie option and was very happy with the flavor and portion Dog friendly with outside patio and seating
The food here was really good, and I especially loved the outdoor patio; it's such a nice spot to relax and enjoy a meal. My favorite was the avocado toast; it was full of flavor and super satisfying. I did add an egg and bacon, which made it a little pricey. It was pretty quiet when we went, so service was quick and attentive, which made the whole experience even better. My boyfriend and I went last year, so the menu might be a little different now.
Service was great - everyone was friendly and attentive from the moment we got in line! It was extremely busy and yet the drinks/food came out super quick. The mimosa flight was definitely worth it and the juices used are not overly sweet/artificial. The food was decent, however, the chilaquiles are just regular bagged tortilla chips (unlike most authentic places that fry the tortillas) with salsa dumped on them (which didn't really have flavor) so I was a bit disappointed, as this was the reason I decided to try this place. Their potatoes are so good, though.
Mac on Crack is bland, flour gritty, weird combo of liquid mac and cheese, huge pecan pieces, unpeeled apple chunks, and tiny bits of blue cheese. Just don't get the combo. The tri tip sandwich was cooked well. The sauce was unidentifiable with some bitter onion goo. The drinks were 8 oz bottles with 16 oz prices. Go somewhere else.
3 stars from me, I just wasn't impressed. Eggs Benedict were on the colder side and the hollandaise sause wasn't doing any favors. Potatoes were heavy on the onion and not my style. Tables are weirdly low to the ground and uncomfortable to sit at (my legs hot the top of the table sitting normal). No complaints on the staff and they were open during some nasty weather (were other restaurants in the area were closed)
Eating at the Shop serves as a potent reminder of how much the pandemic has transformed our food culture to everything comfort food. Don't get me wrong. The Shop uses quality ingredients and obviously puts a lot of care into their cuisine. But for the remaining few of us who like to eat healthy, it's a challenge these days. Take the Frenchie. Is it really necessary to use BOTH powdered sugar and maple syrup, and so much of it that the bread is nearly submerged. (Sorry, the micro-portion of micro-greens is just a tease.) Sauces are great but again there should be a limit. As for the "fried chicken", there's way more batter than chicken! Everything these days has to be so over the top and The Shop is no exception. The two "lunch specials" contain enough cheese and fat to put one in cardiac arrest. I realize I'm in the minority but I long for the days when restaurants had a different approach.
The food was very good. We especially liked their chorizo burrito and Shop potatoes. Also, their vanilla latte was well-made. But, I was very disappointed to see a piece of hair found in our potatoes, which were replaced once we brought it to the worker’s attention. But, sadly, I lost my appetite afterwards.
Came here on a Monday around 11am. We ordered the cheesy soup, eggs Benedict, kids chicken strips and kids scramble. The kids scramble is served in a small pan with potatoes and diced onions. The chicken strips is a big serving. You could split with 2 kids. The eggs Benedict with bacon was okay. Comes with avocado. The bread it is served on is very thick and soft texture. I added bacon for the protein but it was chewy. I should have ordered it crispy. Not the typical eggs Benedict. Place was highly rated in Google maps but I give it a 3/5. Staff was friendly and it was not during peak hours so it may be different on the weekend.
Been coming here for years never had a problem been obsessed with the KFC burrito. Today I ordered that and got shredded old boiled chicken in my burrito. It was nasty, I tossed it. When you are paying 18$ for a breakfast burrito, you expect the quality to be there. Disappointing.
Arrived and we’re standing in line which is not monitored and a couple cut in front after we had been waiting some time. Ordered our food and it took over 35 minutes for it to arrive! When it arrived it was not hot or fresh like it was sitting for a while. Disappointed and it did not taste as good as the last time we visited. We watched other people get their food in under 10 minutes not sure what happened to our order. We won’t be visiting here again!
I'd like to give this place a better score, but the staff did not deserve it. The cashier had an attitude from the moment I walked up to reserve a table for my children and I. For paying over 200 dollars in food, you figured the face of the establishment would be nicer to its patrons. Instead, he ( tall guy with a pony tail ) was passive aggressive and kept trying to rush me when I was ordering. The server was also soo fake ( Caucasian blonde female). My daughter and my sister, who were both present, are servers and were shocked at her short and rude remarks. I mean, this felt one hop and a skip away from being discriminatory behavior. There is no other reason for the staffs attitude ( except the cooks; all super nice). Oh well, won't be going back.
The food... The food was very delicious. I had a party of 11. And i got to try my kids different dishes. Again , very very good. The location and seating... Very chill outdoor seating. The service . . . While ordering, the tall guy with the pony tail, bad attitude, constantly asking if we're done ordering, NO! WE ARE NOT DONE ORDERING, YOU SEE HOW MANY WE ARE STOP ASKING THAT AND BE GRATEFUL. AND STOP ROLLING YOUR EYES. The white girl waitress... bad attitude, and smart-ass remarks. I would definitely go back, but not tip... cause they Ask for tips before service while your paying. . .
Very disappointing! Pics and the website design make you think this is a mid-range place. But this is just a fast food place. Heck, even fast food would be hotter than the food served here. I got the tugboat with fried chicken. The food was COLD! You can tell the biscuits(soggy), chicken(hard), and the fries were pre-made a long time ago. Guac-style avocado (menu doesn't say it'd be guac) wasn't fresh so it was bitter. Food was very salty. Even poached eggs weren't hot. At >$25 price-point, I expect hot food. There really are better options out there.
50 minutes before closing. Only 6 tables occupied out of at least 10 plus a very long and empty shared high-top table. I placed my order and I was asked to sit at a table for 2 with REALLY uncomfortable chairs. I moved to a nearby table for 4. A minute later, I was asked to move back to a table for 2 because, "More large parties might come later." The place was basically empty. Again, close to closing, not 10 AM. Not 1 large party came in after me. A couple of parties even left after me. 20 minutes later, I notice a very attractive 20-something-year-old woman eating alone at a table for 4. I was asked to move for a stupid reason, but she wasn't. The preferential treatment was shocking, not appreciated at all, and borderline discriminatory. Really shows the priorities of the staff who are also a bunch of 20-something-year-old guys. Food is meh too. You can make equivalent or better food by watching a few YouTube videos and practicing technique.
