Sam's For Play Cafe Santa Rosa Reviews
Great staff, fast food service, great food quality.
Love this place. A little busy at times. Worth the wait. We eat here when we come into town.
Had a great meal here for breakfast at Sam's. Friendly staff and good food. It has a cracker barrel feel inside with the old decor but totally a warm quiet place to sit down and a eat a decent meal not as great as cracker barrel but not bad for a local place thats been here for 40 years. Go check them out.
Breakfast with a friend. Comfortable seating, relaxed atmosphere, friendly and attentive service, good food. Plenty of options for breakfast or lunch. Very good at making sure food is as desired and the drinks are refilled without being too distracting. A good, friendly dining experience.
Sam’s For Play Café is such a gem! The moment you walk in, you’re greeted with that cozy, old-fashioned diner charm — cute 60s-style decor, warm lighting, and a friendly, bustling vibe that instantly makes you smile. The food is fantastic and comforting — I had Joe’s Special (eggs, ground beef, garlic, onion, spinach, mushrooms, and Parmesan), and it was absolutely delicious. They also have wonderful weekend specials that make it hard to choose just one thing! Our group of six was seated and served with ease — the staff were so accommodating and genuinely kind. It’s rare to find a spot that combines great food, nostalgic charm, and such thoughtful service. We’ll definitely be back!
Hi this is me. That place is a very nice and very friendly restaurant. The foods are so good! I’m very curious and been wondering about it closed at 2 pm everyday now since 2020 so I’m wondering if it would be change back to at 9 pm as I remembered years ago it was really awesome. I was there once in awhile in the afternoon I absolutely loved it and I also usually always was there in the morning love their breakfast my favorite! Smile. Only wondering about the time that’s all.
I've been coming here and the Sebastopol rd location for breakfast for many years. Even though I no longer live in Sonoma county, I will go out of my way to eat here. The atmosphere is warm, even when it's busy, people are always friendly, and the food reminds me so much of Sunday breakfasts at home (moms biscuits and gravy are still better, but not by much) Keep up the good work, Sam!
I would HIGHLY recommend Sam’s for breakfast catering. We had a delightful breakfast for our morning wedding. Charles was extremely accommodating throughout the entire process. Delicious food, very timely and fresh. Thank you Charles and the team at Sam’s!
Service and food 10/10 🙌🏻 we were seated in under ten mins. Monica, our waitress, was kind, friendly, and very welcoming. My family and I enjoyed the French toast combo, Eggs Florentine with hash browns, a side of pancakes, a Mickey Mouse pancake with a side of grapes, 2 coffees with free refills, and a kids milk cup for a total of $60. They provided my toddler with a cute little pail of crayons and a color sheet. We got our food pretty quickly. Overall a very great experience. We will definitely be returning!
You're greeted by a wholesome aesthetic of history when you dine, keeping you entertained the whole while. We ordered biscuits & gravy and chicken and waffles. The biscuits were large and the gravy was almost like whipped mashed potatoes on top, which was far more delicious than some basic runny canned gravy. My waffle was huge (size of the plate) and extremely fluffy, while the chicken tenders (essentially) were moist. I may have wished I gotten a size of chicken that matched the waffle, but my stomach wouldn't of handled it anyway. Was a great brunch, wholly recommend this place.
The staff here are always friendly, the restaurant has old memorabilia everywhere. There's usually little to no wait, even when they're busy and you're a big party. Downside to this place is parking gets full often. The food is almost always good, but last time something was off with the hash browns.
Great local spot for breakfast, lots of options. The servers seem stretched a bit thin and can be slow or forget things and need to be reminded. The food was really tasty!
Good diner food and atmosphere is definitely a fun diner vibe. Service was more interested in socializing with each other and could quickly see who the regulars are. Don't overlook the new customers would be my only negative statement. Good place and good food!
Too noisy and tables too close together, wait persons too busy to provide good service. Went 2 times, asked 4 times for water, never did get it. Started to feel like if a person was not Hispanic you don't get reasonable service
Very few vegan or gluten free options. It's all about the meat and potatoes here!! 😃
I might have 'waitress bladder', but that can lead to UTI sooner or later...so being in between orders and hoping to get one for Sam's For Play and Catering, where I'd picked up multiple orders prior, I stopped by, presenting myself in fairly formal, almost costume attire – wearing 🐈⬛ cat ears today & thigh high boots w/matching black dress & jewelry (my usual calibre of outfit for working) – I let them know I was in between orders and asked to use the restroom. The hostess/waitress checked w/her boss, who declined to allow it; she apologized & cited numerous problems they'd had w/people using the restroom...I asked, Just using it...and leaving it clean? She said No, leaving a big mess; she said she knew I wouldn't, but had to follow boss's orders. I understand having such a policy for general public in that case; however, being able to show PROOF I'm a delivery driver who's been actively working this morning already, should entitle me to the same use as a customer (as it would be irresponsible to do so during an active order if it can be avoided, of course). This policy needs adjusting. Deal w/people using discretion AND humanity; I might have chosen to be a customer, too. I will not be turning in my résumé here now (which I'd also been about to do, as delivery driving is slower in summer), nor ever choosing to be a patron, despite my affinity for the decor and food options. If I truly had an irresistible craving, I'd go out of my way to visit the other Sam's instead, who have been 💯% hospitable about restroom use several times before, despite being located in a much 'seedier' part of town... I must thank my childhood stubbornness for my 'waitress bladder', though! Got my first UTI at 4 years old, the first of many while growing up; but as an adult in the Bay Area, it has sadly served me quite well, though it's certainly a real shame it's been needed. Restaurants, develop better policies about bathroom usage for delivery drivers. We serve YOU, the PLATFORM, YOUR CUSTOMERS, and the COMMUNITY as a whole, as 'essential workers', helping to drive the economy along with the orders — & many of us do so while also having to pay for our own health care... We don't need *added* health problems, please and thank you! --- LOL 😸 — and before I could even submit this review, though I had just finished, the aforementioned 'boss' came out to hassle me regarding my parking in a handicapped ♿ space, because he couldn't see my placard, *carefully positioned to be visible 24-7 through my windshield*. 🙄 So, Thank You for harassing me this morning, in addition to the increasing pressure in my bladder! 🙃👍 (YES, I've multiple handicaps considered permanent by SSA, despite my determination to heal myself if I can — yet, *I Still Work Anyway As Much As Possible* — because who can afford NOT to, in this economy?) PS — I had initially rated it two stars overall, with three for atmosphere (a significant lowering of my initial 5-star rating from my last visit); however, that last encounter/harassing behavior (he literally threatened a tow truck, LOL 🤦♀️) dropped my overall rating to one star, as well as the atmosphere rating to two stars...as a direct result of his attitude and actions. *Do Better!* UPDATE: I'd already posted this & finally LEAVING, had already put vehicle in Reverse, but he was there again, on the phone, reporting my license plate to someone. I told him once again to look at my placard, & that I was actually Leaving, but he said No, no, I just want to verify you do have one, so I said Please, take a look, again pointing at my windshield, but he ignored me & refused to LOOK 👀 through the windshield & finished his reporting. So I put it back in Park, turned it off, and resigned myself & my bladder to wait for law enforcement or tow truck... Law enforcement showed up (multiple vehicles I might add, LOL; talk about overkill for a well-dressed, little ol' handicapped lady! 😹🤣), had a word & saw placard, & were good w/my leaving.
