The Spinnaker Sausalito Reviews
Quite simply the best meal I have ever had (and I am a Google Local Guide so that's really saying something). Please check out all the wonderful food pics I took. Our server was Robert and he was just incredible. He turned the meal for the 2 of us into a full experience. We arrived around 230pm on a Thursday afternoon. It was quiet. The view of the Bay and SF was probably the best view I have ever dined to. We decided to have a long, leisurely late lunch, over 2 bottles of wine. We shared (one dish at a time): - Beet salad - Crab and avocado - Prawn cocktail - Bouillebaise Then we individually had: - Halibut on a bed of lobster risotto (OMG!) - Scallops on a bed of mushrooms, spinach and leeks. At no point did we feel rushed, we were able to savor the magnificent views of the Bay as we dined on course after course. The chefs were exceptional. For the view, experience and quality, we felt the prices were very reasonable. Please look at the pics then head there and experience it for yourself. So romantic, so classy. Thank you Spinnaker! Thank you Robert.
A beautiful restaurant. We were celebrating my partner and I getting married. We were able to make reservations online easily and when we checked in with the hostess, she informed us that they did have a table ready for us but if we'd like to wait for a table overlooking the ocean, it would be about another 15 min. We appreciated the transparency and informed her we'd like to wait for the table. Parking seemed easy and there is a valet option, we just walked from where our hotel was nearby. When we were seated, we were instantly given menus, water and introduced to our waiter. He was extremely kind and professional. Food was fantastic and delicious. Tried the bouillabaisse and prawn & scallop pasta. Dessert was a creme brulee, very tasty. Overall, a lovely dining experience in Sausalito. Can't wait to come back again!
The View of the San Francisco Bay behind me and the front view of the Business district is priceless! The food I ordered was delicious, flavorful and tasty. It was Dungeness and Rock crab mac & cheese with my scrumptious bread pudding with ice cream dessert and my 2 peach Bellini cocktail drinks. and of course I have to order coffee Yum. The service have been always excellent. From the Hostess, bartenders, and other servers to our Server Ruben were very pleasant and provided us an excellent service. The place was pet friendly. The ambiance was very relaxing. One of my favorite place in Sausalito. I highly recommend this place. Priceless . Love it.. ❤️
The place has a very good location with an amazing view. The price is a fair price and cheaper than most of the options in the area and the food is good. The service is ok because the waiters take long to come back because it’s a big area for them to cover, but it’s not a big deal. I would go back there!
This is definitely one of the best places I ever visited in Sausalito! Amazing view, super friendly staff and the food, oh my God, wonderful! We liked everything we tried, but the calamari is the best I ever ate, the sauce of the scallops and mussels is really another level, great oysters that go really well with the vinagrette sauce, smoke salmon comes with all the sides that goes well with it. All the seafood and fish were really! Love the outside sitting! Will definitely be back soon!
Came here for a friend's 50th wedding anniversary, and it was absolutely lovely. This place is perfect for large events. Service was polite and professional, and the food was delicious with a very elegant presentation. And if course the views are gorgeous. I would definitely come back here!
One of the best spots in San Francisco / Sausalito to have dinner with a view of the city. The seafood especially the lobster and the prawns are excellent. The location, the service and the quality of the foods. And also the wine is excellent. I recommend some oysters to start and move on with prawns lobster or any other seafood. A dinner reservation and bring your friends. Enjoy the sunsets and the view of the city, while pelicans are fishing.
Book your reservation, and get here early. This place has an amazing view of the Bay. I got lucky enough to be seated in the corner of the restaurant with a double window view. The food is amazing, the service is so friendly, and the atmosphere is pleasant! you will be encapsulated in the beauty of the Bay at this place. The oysters rockafeller, clam chowder and crab cakes are a must have every time I come here! I’ve also really enjoyed the baked Brie, and bouillabaisse. All so fresh catches from the bay and away delicious!
We had lunch at The Spinnaker on a weekday in June, 2023. Parking was a little tight, but we found a spot. We were seated quickly once inside. It was past one PM, which might have made it easier to get a table. We ordered our lunch and sat and enjoyed the main reason for us to visit. The views from our table were spectacular. We were on the water facing San Francisco. So we had a great view of the city. We also had a great view of Alcatraz. We could see the cable towers for the Golden Gate Bridge. We also could see other landmarks from our table. And for the second day in a row, we were visited during lunch by a seal. He only stayed short time and only popped his head out of the water. Unfortunately, a pole was kind of in my way, so I couldn't get a good picture of him or her. I was much more fortunate yesterday. Our food was good. But to be fair, we have had better. I'm not trying to take a shot at The Spinnaker. The food really was good. But I didn't think it was anything special to me. The wife agreed. But we also agreed that this might just be what we had for lunch more than anything. So maybe judge for yourselves. Maybe we are giving them negative press that might be unwarranted. Prices were not extremely high, but were not inexpensive either. So I guess I would say somewhat fair. And the view made it all worth it, whether or not you agree. Atmosphere is very important. As such, the food could have been not very good and I still would have thought our visit was worth it. Thankfully, the food was good. Our server was also very good. He made us feel special and was very professional. I took pictures, but it was cloudy and hazy. The pictures do not do the actual views justice. They are much, much better in person. All in all, I thought the Spinnaker was a decent restaurant that has a great atmosphere with spectacular views. You should consider trying them if in the area. At the very least, you'll probably remember where you had that meal.
It was a lovely restaurant with an amazing view. I enjoyed that I was able to step out on the deck. It was very pleasant to watch the sailboats in the morning and feel the sharp cool air. I enjoyed most of the food I ate, but there were a couple of things that were over-salted for my taste. Still, I cannot deny they gave me two perfectly poached eggs with a very tasty hollandaise. I also really liked their smoked salmon on a thin, buttered crostini. I think they underestimated how big our party was, so it did feel a little bit understaffed. I had to ask twice for coffee creamer, even though we were walking around with coffee carafes. Overall, it was a nice place to spend a brunch. I wouldn’t mind stopping by again and maybe try a later service.
It has the best view in Sausalito. The food is decent, typical American Style food. We didn't know it almost take 2 hours to eat a meal, so if you are in a hurry, remember to tell your server food can come together any time when it's ready. Service is good. Seafood is good. Even though it's a Monday, it's packed during lunch time. But we were still being given a very nice window table. Been visit here so many times, it's like a ritual for me every time we visit The Spinnaker.
Food was wonderful Service was excellent. Atmosphere 5 star with panoramic view of the Sausalito bay. Worth enjoying if you're in Sausalito. Not as expensive as some of the other restaurants in the area. Worth every bit. Wide selection of top shelf wines.
We had lunch here. Beautiful restaurant with incredible views of the bay. Lots of windows around the restaurant. We ordered bruschetta, arugula salad and the crab and shrimp club sandwich and everything was excellent. Photos show the view from our table, the sandwich and the last photo shows the restaurant on the pier sticking out.
We found this restaurant while exploring the area and had a delightful experience. We did not have a reservation, but they quickly accommodated our party of 5 with a table offering a perfect view of the bay. The service was excellent- our waiter was knowledgeable, interesting, and funny. The food was delicious, fresh, and there were a variety of options. The whole experience was wonderful and memorable. This would be a great place to visit or bring guests.
Wonderful place to enjoy lunch with a view in Sausalito! We made reservations in advance and enjoyed a drink from the bar during our short wait for our table to be ready. We ordered the specials of the day, lobster tail and swordfish. The seafood was fresh and was deliciously prepared to perfection. Wait staff was attentive and pleasant. We enjoyed the experience and recommend The Spinnaker while visiting Sausalito. We'll definitely be back.
We’ve been here many times and it’s always a great experience. Nelson has gone above and beyond every time we’ve gone there for dinner even making us a special Dungeness crab dish. The views are amazing. The food is always fresh and well prepared. I specifically enjoy the seafood dishes. The staff is top-notch professional some of these dudes been doing this for decades and you can tell for the experience they provide. Dinning here is a fun casual atmosphere with Michelin quality food. The “Who’s Who” of Sausalito can often be found dining here. If you’re checking out sauce later, this is the place to go for dinner.
We visited this restaurant in Sausalito — one of my favorite cities near San Francisco — and it was truly a wonderful experience. The restaurant itself is beautiful, with a stunning panoramic view of the bay that made the whole evening feel special. The seafood was excellent, and considering how elegant and upscale the restaurant feels, the prices were actually very reasonable. The staff were incredibly kind and welcoming. They took the time to chat with us and create a warm, relaxed atmosphere. When we mentioned that we would love a table by the window, they happily accommodated us. They patiently walked us through the menu and gave us plenty of time to decide without ever making us feel rushed. The food was delicious. We truly enjoyed everything — the food, the beautiful scenery, and the wonderful vibe of the restaurant. We were able to sit, relax, and really enjoy our time there. I especially appreciated this because we don’t go to restaurants just for the food; we go to spend quality time and create good memories. It was a lovely experience, and we would absolutely come back again
Service: 10/10, especially to Ricardo(?) I apologize if I incorrectly recalled our server’s name. He was spectacular. Food: the appetizers were incredible. Everyone agreed that it was one of the best calamari’s we’ve ever had. Everyone enjoyed their food though my only small complaint was that the chicken was dry (probably not a surprise considering it’s a seafood restaurant!). Overall, I enjoyed the food a lot and felt the entree sizes were very adequate! Atmosphere: they seated us at the window seats and it was one of the most beautiful views I’ve ever had. Loved it. Overall, I felt this place was worth the long drive :). Valet parking is a bonus.
Expecting maybe a mail in meal considering its location (on the waters edge), I thought this restaurant was clean, comfortable and a delight for a fast decision and walk in. Food was really fresh, classic and tastefully prepared. The seafood was all worth every penny. I honestly don’t have a complaint about any aspect of this place. The atmosphere was quiet, adult and professional.
🌟 Wow, dining at The Spinnaker in Sausalito was pure magic! 🏞️ This classic seafood spot boasts jaw-dropping panoramic views through massive floor-to-ceiling windows – think sparkling San Francisco skyline, iconic Alcatraz, Angel Island, and the glittering bay! 😍 The food? Chef’s kiss! 👩🍳 I devoured crispy sweet potato fries 🍠🔥, briny fresh oysters on the half shell 🦪✨, and the flawless sea bass special 🐟🍋 – every bite exploded with flavor! 🤤 Absolutely outstanding! The vibe is elegantly traditional and super calm 🕊️, with attentive service that makes you feel pampered. We scored the ultimate window seat for epic views 📸, but honestly, no bad spots here (except maybe the middle tables away from the glass)! A must-visit for an unforgettable waterfront feast! 🚀
Beautiful views and delicious food. The food has always been consistent and gives a great value for the experience. This is a gorgeous place to relax and take in the experiences out in the way. Lots of wildlife, boat traffic, city views and more. I wish the service was more consistent. Usually it’s not great though the servers try hard I just get the feeling there is high turnover. We rarely see the same wait staff twice. This time the entire table, along with my knife and my bread plate were cleared while I was still eating. Okay? No awareness at all. Last time they just sort of forgot about us. When we do have the same wait staff they are super friendly and helpful. I just this they are probably under staffed. Anyway … it’s a good place for a good meal. A final note about the valet staff. They are the best !
I was surprised how easy the parking was, especially for a weekend in Sausalito. We opted for the free of valet parking. I paid a ten dollar tip when he retrieved the car. We made reservations about two hours prior to arrival so we had no waiting at all. The restaurant was packed and there were many people waiting for a table, but they did not make reservations. Reservations are a must. This restaurant is very popular. We got a nice little table for two. The view was to die for - see my photos. We started with oysters on the half shell that were absolutely delicious. I had the seafood sampler platter and my date had the sea food bouillabaisse. Wallpaper all of the food was excellent, perfectly prepared, ans presented well. I highly recommend the Spinnacker restaurant.
As a native San Franciscan I love and can never get enough of the city skyline, and there's no better vantage point than from Sausalito and the Spinnaker restaurant our server Maya was over the top and I am accustomed to getting the red carpet VIP treatment in San Francisco from all the 4 and 5 star restaurants that I've eaten at for the last 25 years, almost 7 days a week. Mya was outstanding their soups are extraordinary
⭐️Timeless⭐️Views⭐️Romantic⭐️ We drove in for a gorgeous sunset dinner. Our table was situated right against the bay view where we could see sailboats go by and the sunset against the gorgeous San Francisco cityscape. This place has a lot of salad, seafood, pasta, and steak options, as well as a large beverage list. I ordered the shrimp cocktail, and clam chowder soup, and was delighted at the portion size and freshness. 10/10 would recommend and will most definitely be returning. ⭐️

This was my second visit. We loved the view and the lovely atmosphere! The good is delicious too. The cheesecake desert was fabulous.
Location is brilliant right out over the water. Choice of dishes is seafood bias but other things are available, but go for the seafood. Service is good and prices reasonable for such a great place.

Stopped by for lunch on the way from the airport up to Napa. They have a great lunch special! The views are amazing, especially if you get sat next to the windows.
June 2025: Great annual b-day dinner with 10 friends. Terrific food. Amazing views. Busy and can be a bit loud. June 2024: Mostly great experience! Our group of 9 had outstanding views of SF and of boats going to & from the Sausalito marina. The food was excellent with some items a bit smaller than expected but still very tasty. June 2022: Group of 7 today. Great dinner.
Came on a Friday night and wasn't too crowded. Was easily able to make reservations online for a party of three a few hours ahead and got a table. However, a few things are left to be desired. For starters, the host wasn't at the station for about 10 minutes so we had to stand around since no one knew how to use the tablet to reserve our reservation and figure out where we were seated. It was pretty cold in the restaurant so definitely bring layers if you come in the fall or winter time. The views are definitely spectacular and that with the great food definitely makes it worth coming back. However, note that the tables are pretty close together so you can hear every conversation around you. Definitely not a romantic setting more like family and business oriented. Also, the valet parking is very interesting. I don't understand why they need it since they have a pretty big lot and it just makes everyone line up waiting for their car at the end of the meal.
Food was good but some things weren't that great, just so so. I had the steak which was very good, well seasoned and tender. My wife's pasta was not to her liking. Lighting was a bit dark for my liking. Service was awesome.
Very pleased with our New Year Day lunch. It was very easy to call and make a reservation. We chose to sit outside which was empty to begin with but by 2pm there were lots of people sitting outside with us. It’s freezing to begin with but have patience and wait for the heaters to get hot and you’ll feel fine. A nice touch would be if they offered blankets to use because your legs under the table will get cold in January. The food was delicious and came out quite quickly. The staff is also very attentive and friendly. I’ll be visiting again soon!
The location is great, the look and feel suggests that it is very high end. To achieve the high level that the look in first impressions, there are some points for improvement. If you sit outside, you have to wait quite a long time for service. The dishes are also quite average compared to restaurants in the area.
The best place to dine in the area with a view! Enjoy your time on the waters in this clean, open, welcoming atmosphere. Attentive and friendly staff. Great broad menu and tasty specials. The warm bread and butter were a great start. The chowder was exceptional, plenty thick, hot, and so delicious (I should've gotten the bowl!). I got the Scallop and Prawns pasta, which was good... but the pasta was overcooked. I still e joyed thr flavors and my friend enjoyed the sea bass special. Enjoy the relaxed and refined vibe here!
Yes they're right when they say 'location, location, location'. We had lunch today and didn't want to leave. A couple glasses of wine and we were relaxed beyond expectation. Service was good and customized my husband's vegan order perfectly. Sourdough bread to begin with was just right. My brother and I shared two seafood dishes. Slightly more quantity would have been good. Mixed grill seafood had 1 piece of halibut, 1 piece of salmon, 2 pieces of shrimps and 1 piece of scallop. At the very minimum 4 pieces of jumbo shrimps and 4 pieces of scallops would be good because the fish pieces are rather small. Also I want to draw the chef's attention to enhancing the flavor a bit. Food was no doubt fresh but lacks flavor. You may want to incorporate a bit more spice and herbs. Thank you.
Good Food, Good Service, GREAT view. We got the Soup of the Day, which I believe was a Mushroom Bisque. Super creamy, thick, and rich. We also got the Spinnaker Boullibabasse. Both were good, but mopping up the broth from the muscles with bread was the best. Service was more than patient with us while we figured out what we wanted to order. Everyone seemed happy to see us. The atmosphere was bright and clean, but the view was amazing. Not only was it an almost 360° view of the water and San Francisco, but we got to see all kinds of cranes flying around and a couple of sea lions come and go.
Have gone here a few times, and have always enjoyed it. I usually get the crab louie salad because you get a ton of crab. The restaurant's over the water, and you get great views of the bay and San Francisco. We went back again recently and had clam chowder, and of course, the crab louie salad and it's still really good! We had a nice table at the window with beautiful views!
Terrific products and good cooking, the views are wonderful (come during daylight). One of the best clam chowders we have ever eaten, terrific prawns and mussels, great sole (scallops were just okay), great execution overall. Desserts are not at the same level, but still okay. Great place for romantic dinners as well as for groups. Prices were decent for the experience. The only caveat is the service, we came 4 times, and it's rarely great, mistakes during the order or long wait (30 min to order and 50 min for the first drinks last time 😬).
The view is great from here, you can see the Golden Gate Bridge and Angel Island with floor to ceiling windows. Staff were friendly and service was quick. Food was okay, it was delicious but not very memorable or special. The salmon was good though and serving sizes were huge. Good for any group size, plenty of choices from their menu.
We went to have lunch with my family first time being here. We usually go to Scoma every time we are in Sausalito we decided to try something different since I heard so many nice stuff about this restaurant. The service was very nice. The View was nice. I think the view from Scoma is even prettier. We order lobster. I think for my taste it had way too much garlic. The clam chowder soup was okay. I guess I was expecting it a better clam chowder soup. The dessert was very nice and the appetizers too. The price is a little bit elevated. We had drinks. We had hot drinks. We actually had a little bit of everything. To be honest with you, I like the lobster better at Scoma I did not get the chance to try the steak. Maybe I should have ordered the steak. I will come again and next time I will order a steak. The bathroom were a little too dirty and very old bathroom at least in the ladies bathroom.
Beautiful view! We made reservations so we were seated right away. Service was ok, the person serving the bread didn't check when we asked about the egg allergy but the waiter did finally. Waiter had no knowledge on wine which seemed odd given all the wine awards displayed. The food was just ok. The special was branzino and it was overcooked. The squash soup was good. Fish and chips was hearty.
For us, as tourists, this restaurant captures very well the Sausalito spirit! Awesome views to the bay and lots of light, classy people, elegant ambience and food that clearly stands above average. Prices are also above average but balanced given the quality of the food and experience. We enjoyed the sea platters and the excellent desserts, although as Europeans we prefer all fresh fish specialties with much less sauce on them or even none at all. Staff are highly professional and gentle, and we were treated with much attention overall.
We have had a lovely spontaneous lunch at spinnaker on Saturday. We even got the chance to sit on the terrace which was nice. The food was very nice and tasty, clam chowder was nice and thick as it should be. Space for improvement is on the side of the staff- we asked for mayo for the French fries, came 20 minutes later when we were already finished. Also sitting on the terrace we felt that the staff paid more attention to the guests in the main area and not visit out area too often. Thank you for the nice experience!
Beautiful place.. unfortunelly tha food is really bad... expensive . \nService is not good at all. The waitress ask for "big tip" when we were ordering. \nNot coming back again.

While the food is above average and the location is lovely, there’s just little things that feels off. There are containers and staff folding napkins in the main dining hall beside table with guests. While the food is generally good, small things make the dining experience feel like a casual diner than a restaurant. For example the bread seems like an afterthought. They are hard and cold and the butter that came with it has fork marks on them. The crab cakes came on a pice of lettuce which makes it look like something you’ll get from a buffet. Overall just an experience that feels weird.
Amazing views. However, disappointing when both reservation and speaking with host regarding celebration of a member of the group was ignored. Our food was good. We enjoyed the crab and avocado salad - would get this again. The sea bass was good, the potato cake tasted poor.
I had high hopes for The Spinnaker, but it ended up being a fairly forgettable experience outside of the scenery. The panoramic view of the bay is 5-star quality—truly stunning. Unfortunately, the food and service didn't quite match the setting. Everything was 'fine,' but very basic and lacked any 'wow' factor. It's a great spot for a drink to soak in the view, but the dining experience itself was underwhelming.
We came here for my husband's birthday. The view from our table was amazing! We had a good look at the Bay and San Francisco. The food we ordered was all tasty. The cup of clam chowder was delicious with nice chunks of crab in it. The Bay scallop dish had four good size scallops and had lots of flavor. The only negative we had during our time there was the waiter. He was constantly missing. After our drink orders were placed he didn't come back for 15 minutes to bring our cocktails and take our order. Once we had our meal he was gone again and this didn't show up for a time while my mother in law needed more water. My table wasn't the only one who had issues with this particular waiter.
The clam chowder was okay… a little too thick. Tasted a little too “starchy” for me. Too much herbs.. The Sausalito sunset was okay… A decent strength of alcohol. There weren’t any wowing factors to the drink. The bouillabaise was okay. The squid rings were decent. The clams were fresh. The fish used in the stew were okay. The mussels had a smell as if it was going bad. Loved the toast with parmesan — buttery, warm, rich, and had a great crunchy texture. The “special of the day” is branzini with risotto. The fish was a tad overcooked. The risotto had no execution — the stock was boring, and did not add any flavor to the risotto. The cooking of the risotto seemed amateurish. The sauce was way too sweet, and easily overpowered the branzini.
A friend from work suggested we tried this restaurant based on the fact that it is located with wonderful views of the Pacific Ocean. It's highly recommended that you get reservations and we had an early one for a group of five. The decor is a bit dated but it is classic in the aesthetic we were warmly greeted and shown to our seats. I'm very quickly brought bread to the table however it was cold and so was the butter. We were offered a wine list and informed about the specials of the day. I chose to go with the crab cakes as an appetizer and the Crab Louie as my entree. The crab cakes were quite small however the sauce was amazing however I did not think the Chutney was a great flavor combination with the crab cakes. The Crab Louie was really big and feeling and loaded with a lot of crap. Overall I think I would want to maybe try other items but I wasn't quite impressed with our outing on this night.
Balanced & Professional 3/5 The experience was a bit of a mixed bag. The view is absolutely beautiful and the service was top-notch, which made for a great atmosphere. We enjoyed the appetizers and the drinks were well-made. However, the main American-style entrees left a little to be desired; the seasoning definitely needs some work to match the quality of the rest of the experience. Great spot for drinks and starters, but the mains could be improved.
Love the view! Clam chowder was delicious. But unfrotunately angel hair sea food pasta has no flavor I had to add a lot of salt to taste. The seafood used in the pasta was not fresh, probably cheap frozen seafood. Overall it's a good place to visit only once for the view and eat the soup, then get your fill at a better restaurant.

Made a reservation here for 9 people for an early dinner. Location of the restaurant was nice as it was right by the water and had free valet parking. Although the location by the water was great, …

Make a reservation!!! The front lady was not nice, we wanted to be seated near the sea view but they gave us the very back table even though the table we wanted to sit wasn’t reserved, they told us it was reserved and they seated the next white couple to that table without reservation!!! I think they favor white or white passing people, lol. The menu on the google maps is not updated, their plates are expensive but overall, food was good. Honestly I can eat better food at a food truck or something, cheaper. But I would say, it’s a nice place for a little date and make a reservation to not be up to the front ladies’ favoritism.
Spinnaker wants to be the primary seafood destination for Sausalito. They definitely have the views and the location to back it up. However, they seriously need to think about their food caliber. It simply does not live up to the expectation set as you step in. No need to comment about the views. You literally dine by the water with a floor-to-ceiling window protecting you. Service is great as well. Now the food. Oysters, despite being in-season, were small and scrawny. The tortellini almost felt "frozen" food quality. The baked brie definitely needed some sweetness to balance it. And the clam chowder ... just too vanilla. Yes it is clam chowder but just your every day chowder. But the biggest disapointment was with the ceasar salad with supposedly fresh seafood. The scallops and shrimp on top of it were bland and rubbery at best. Absolutely not fresh. Spinnaker absolutely should strive for fresh food. This was a massive disappointment.
Beautiful ocean view, but the food was average and service disappointing. The restaurant seemed understaffed—ordering and even a water refill took a long time. Asked for a window seat but was told it required reservations, though I saw empty tables. Staff tried, but they were clearly overwhelmed.
Excellent service and atmosphere. Food just isn't very good. Especially for the price. I never make reviews but the food was disappointing enough to make a review.
Poor service and okay food. We did the prefix menu for NYE. Most our evening, our waiter was no where to be seen. It was an hour from sit down to first appetizer. About the same time frame for every subsequent course. At the end, we asked for a dessert menu which took about 45 minutes to get. On 2 occasions I had to go get the wait staff. At first we were told “it’s just really busy” and by end of the night we were told “usually people like to stay longer till midnight”. We had a 7:45 reservation and let them know at the beginning we were not trying to be here all night, as most of the group had work in the AM. We left close to 11 and did not have time to get the dessert included in our meal I’ve never asked for the manager at a restaurant but this seemed necessary. The manager was kind and helped resolve some issues in regards to the incomplete service of the prefix menu. The food itself was fine, but not the best in Sausalito. I’m thankful the manager was accommodating.
Great views. Terrible food. Bland, uninspired, and tasteless. My prawns were freezer burned. Service was middling, at best. This place obviously banks on the views they have, with zero desire for repeat business. As a local, I would avoid. We did see a cute bird fishing for its dinner, though. Definitely fresher than what we were served.
The views were nice, and the service was decent, but the food was very disappointing. The sauce on the pasta entrees (squid ink spaghetti, prawn and scallop) were so watery and bland that canned sauce from a grocery store would have tasted better. Nobody in my party truly enjoyed the food, and no one finished their serving. Won't be back.
The atmosphere was beautiful with the large windows and excellent view. Service was good, but not out of this world. The food was alright. Do not order the seafood platter appetizer, as it was one big rip off. It had ONE oyster, and the platter looked very sparce. I am kicking myself for not taking a photo due to its lackluster appearance for the price. The baby shrimp that was included also tasted old and too fishy. The charcuterie board included too many crackers and not enough cheese. They were disappointing appetizers. The entrees were fine but nothing worth returning for.
I don’t normally post negative reviews because I don’t need that kind of energy in my life. But I’m making an exception for The Spinnaker to keep others from making an expensive mistake. The backstory: I have a big birthday this year and am auditioning restaurants for a group dinner. This place is firmly off the list. Pros: We had a comfortable window seat with a great view. And we got to watch a very cute bird fish for its dinner. Cons: Literally everything else. That bird got fresher seafood than anything we experienced. The bad vibes were evident at the host stand, where we weren’t so much greeted as ordered to take our table. The service was earnest but slow and unpolished at best. We overheard our server telling the party next to us that their complaint had nothing to do with her. (They did seem very sour.) We probably should have known from the laminated menus that this place was going to be lackluster. A laminated menu means the kitchen isn’t trying new things too often. My drink was good, but my husband’s old fashioned was pretty much straight bourbon. No craftsmanship at all. It was a good thing we ordered our appetizer with our drinks, because we didn’t see our server again for another 25 minutes. About the appetizer: The crab cakes were dry and bland, with no discernible crab flavor. Really, no discernible flavor at all. The 2 cakes were small for the price and seemed to be all breading. Plus, they were lukewarm. We did not finish them. We ordered our mains when the server made her leisurely way back around. (The restaurant was not full. Servers were doing side work out in the open at empty tables.) I ordered the macadamia-crusted petrale sole filet, and my husband ordered the squid ink pasta. We also ordered a bottle of Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc, which is one of my favorite wines from Marlborough. The wine came quickly, but it was barely chilled, and it took our server 15 minutes to come back with a chiller. Not even an ice bucket…just a stainless steel contraption. Now, Cloudy Bay generally retails for $48 to $55, so to see it on a restaurant wine list for $77 seemed like a good deal. Wrong. This wine was a few years old, and you really don’t want to age your Sauvignon Blancs. It was missing its characteristic zippiness and tropical fruit flavors. It tasted bland, like the rest of the food. My petrale sole was nicely cooked, with a crisp brown crust. But it tasted of nothing, even when liberally doctored with the salt and pepper that’s on every table. My husband’s pasta was also bland and lukewarm. We only ate a few bites before pushing our plates aside. Our still-full plates didn’t prevent our server from approaching us with laminated dessert menus. She showed no curiosity at all as to why our food was mostly uneaten. We left as quickly as possible. Skip this place and travel the extra 10 minutes into San Francisco if you want a good meal. As an added insult, our bill was only about $50 less than our bill for a recent dinner at Rich Table, which was a fabulous experience and one of the best meals I’ve had.
The oysters were very nice but the restaurant had a few issues. Anything fried in oil was a red flag. The fries I received were either overcooked or prepared with lower quality oil. The waiter asked how my food was - I mentioned it was okay except the fries have not my expectations. He giggled and shrugged it off and continued. While the restaurant has killer views - I wouldn’t go back for the service and quality of food. I ended up only giving a 8% gratuity due to the poor service and food I received. The attention to detail this restaurant has and the prices of the food were not matched. Wouldn’t go back here.
over priced crab cakes and a shrimp and sea scallop Cobb salad. My gut was relentless for 24 hours to rid this lunch
Bad food, tired building and staff, over cooked and over priced. I honestly don’t know how old those reviews are but I based my choice on them. Don’t do it. I had the sole which was completely o…
HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. The entire evening was a disaster. We had reservations at 7:00pm. Showed up to the restaurant and the line was out the door. They had no system to checking people in. We had no problem waiting however they were seating people with reservations at 7:30 PM, 7:45 PM before seating people with 7:00 PM reservations. They were picking and choosing who they wanted to seat rather than go off the reservations. The hostess was beyond rude as well. We finally get seated and the service is horrible. Our waiter barely checked on us the entire dinner. We called him twice via other staff and still could not get connected with him. When the appetizers came out the calamari was extremely clumpy, oily, and had slime coming out of the batter. The main course was as okay however one of our dishes was burnt. Salmon burnt and gnocchi burnt. The server did not care when brought to his attention. They also have no standardized process. Our waiter boxed the table right next to ours himself and then handed us a box for ours. They pick and choose what they want to do and make people feel horrible. We felt uncomfortable the entire time. This was our first trip out after a cancer diagnosis in the family and this is our favorite place to go however the entire experience was horrible from beginning to end. The staff is rude, horrible service and burnt food. The views were beautiful however and the dessert was delicious.
