Pitkin's Schroon Lake Reviews
The fish and chips is so fresh, crunchy, and yummy! It is one of our favorite meals here. Don't forget to get pie! I love the strawberry rhubarb pie and my husband loves the coconut cream pie. We've been eating here for decades and are always very happy with our meals.
Walked over from the Lodge at Schroon Lake for dinner. Appetizers and entrees were great. Food came out quick and service was friendly. Went back for breakfast the next morning, also phenomenal!
Homemade corned beef hash...need we say more? Eggs Benedict hit the spot and the restaurant has been updated since my last visit here. Nicely done with a new upstairs. Certainly a reliable stop you don't want to skip.
Great place to stop on our road trip. Riley was a fantastic waiter and gave a good choice on the menus. “One of everything” the service was fantastic never had a empty coffee cup and the cheese burger was perfect.
Desserts were amazing. We shared the blackberry cobbler and coconut cream pie. I had the beef vegetable soup and tossed salad for lunch but our table said the Caesar salad, Narrows sandwich and fried chicken sandwich were all good.
I have been going to Pitkins for over 60 years. Although the ownership changed hands a couple of times, the food and service has ALWAYS been great! Mama still makes the homemade desserts which are delicious! The current menu is excellent and has something for everyone. My family has eaten breakfast, lunch an dinner here and we love this place! My older children have married and move down south but when they come back to visit, they ask to go to Pitkins. They are open year round and the current owner, although remodeled extensively, did a great job keeping the hometown vibe. LOVE THIS PLACE!!!
We've been going to Pitkins for over 30 years. The new owners have continued the tradition of great food. The restaurant has been updated in a manner respectful to the past and the town. I am looking forward to 30+ years more of great meals!
What a superb Sunday breakfast. It was hard to choose among the enticing offerings. After my delicious pancakes (spend the little bit extra for the real maple syrup), bacon, eggs, hash browns with a side of very special corned beef hash is it any wonder I didn’t need another meal that day. All with friendly service. And at a surprisingly low cost. Worth a detour.
Five of us stopped Saturday around 2:30 pm and enjoyed a wonderful lunch. Our server, Riley, and did a fantastic job of asking the right questions and then carefully listening to get each of us what we wanted. The food came quickly and hot. The Ruebens were awesome, as were the salad dishes, soup, and panini. The cost was reasonable, food was excellent, and service was perfection!
One if the best meals I've had hands down. It was busy but all the staff were working hard and friendly, the restaurant is rustic and cute, and the food is high quality as well as delicious. I got the steak medallions with shrimp and the steak was cooked perfectly! My husband got the turkey dinner and was very happy with everything on the plate. The green beans were especially tasty! Wish I could give more than 5 stars!
I have eaten here three times and every time breakfast brunch and dinner have been out of this world. The owner's brother Andrew recommended the place and I tried it out and was blown away for breakfast brunch and dinner. On my three visits the one server who really stood out to me was Becky she was straight to the point no-nonsense but had a warm and friendly side to her and made many great recommendations. I have a very diverse palate but I insist on good quality food properly prepared and served within a reasonable amount of time and this restaurant thoroughly Fulfilled all of my requirements. I highly recommend this restaurant regardless of what time of day
This place was amazing, they had wonderful food, few, but great vegan options and lovely drink selections. We sat outside on the patio and had a lovely date night. The waitress was knowledgeable about the food and how it would fit in to my dietary restrictions. We went here completely on a whim and will definitely go back here another time.
BEST breakfast ever! Seriously amazing sausage gravy and biscuits. Incredible REAL corned beef hash. All the employees were wonderful. We will have to make a few trips a year to visit!!
Want to say the food was the best part of this place (everything was great and my son’s burger was fantastic) but our server was so nice she was actually the best part. Sincerely, family with the two kids who talked incessantly “Tell them everything was really good and she was really really nice and I’ve never been to a place with mixed fruit jelly packets. Those were so cool.” -my son just now when I told him I was leaving a review
Super friendly small-town restaurant. If you're anywhere near Schroon Lake, it a must-stop for an excellent breakfast experience.
Some of the dishes are overpriced. $8 for a bowl of Kraft mac and cheese. Otherwise great.
We had a wonderful meal here. It was a nice surprise as we exited I 87 to find a place to eat.
This place is so awesome. The owners are just so amazing. Omg such couples goals! I so recommend this place and it’s 5 star. The worker people were just so nice and polite, they were so awesome! The meals are very well done. The place is so beautiful!! Just go there and it will change ur life!!! 🍔🌭🌮🌯🥙🥗🥪🍕🍟🍗🥓🍱🥘🧆🍲🍛🍜🍝🍣🍤🍿🥟🍳🥞🧇🍪🍩🧁🍦🍨🍧🍮🥧🍰🎂🍭🍫🍬🍆🍑🍓🍒🥑🍌🍎🍊🍍🥜 it’s a life changer ❤️❤️
We recently bought property up here and we absolutely love this place. Breakfast is so good...... Pancakes are some of the best ever!!! The real treat is how wonderful the staff is......always smiling and pleasant. We've only been here a bunch of times for breakfast..... Can't comment on lunch or dinner but I bet it's really good as well.
My husband and I stopped for breakfast on our way to Lake Placid. What a great find! Excellent and friendly service. Clean and neat. Got the best hash browns ever. Extra crispy and didn't even ask. Great food and reasonable prices. If you are in the area, make it a point to stop in.
Stopped in July 6th and the place was packed. That's a good omen! Waited for about 10 minutes and we got seated outside. The young ladies were all very pleasant in spite of being at capacity. I had a patty melt with fries and a diet coke. No complaints. I'd eat there again. There were a couple delivery trucks that had to park out front to deliver supplies to the restaurant but that's how it is in a quaint setting and it didn't really detract from the experience- it was interesting to see. If I ever get back to Schroon Lake I'd definitely eat there again.
Food was totally on point and 100% worth the wait. Corned beef hash was amazing and they even got my eggs over medium right. Waitress was sweet and responsive and got our massive order right even when we added on stuff at the end and had to flag her down. Everything came out hot and fast. Also, they have Febreze air freshener in the bathroom and I was really impressed, lol! I thought it was all around a top notch experience. I'd wait half an hour on a Saturday morning again for sure... Don't let the line deter you; it's worth the wait.
Great little place, food was great. I had the French onion soup and it’s was very tasty. I didn’t get the girl who served me and my buddy but she’s got blonde hair and she was the best.
Pitkins is always a favorite place for lunch or dinner when we are in Schroon, which is weekly in the summer and at least once a month in the winter. The service is always in a timely manner, and the servers always have a sincere smile. The food is always well prepared and presented. The chef sometimes has an unusual special, like dill pickle soup, which sounds weird but oddly quite delicious.
Food was great! As a chef of 30 years, I was impressed. Gravy was very rich and delicious for the poutine! My Ruben was right on. It's a shame I only go though Schroon Lake so often. Thanks for ending our day with a smile!
The food and service were excellent. The reuben got high remarks, my kid give the chicken basket two thumbs up, and I had the beyond burger with onion rings. I think a couple of sauteed vegetables on the burger would have been it outstanding. We ate outside as we had out dog with us. We were the only ones in the area. There was even a dog bowl full of water. The waiter was awesome. Friendly and came out to us multiple times. We did not feel alone out there by ourselves!
Great food for a good price. I watched the waitresses get berated by an angry guest who could not be pleased and handle it with poise (not that they should have to do that). I would recommend stopping in here!
The food was hot and fresh and the service was extremely quick for a party of 10. Everyone was super nice and very friendly
We love Pitkins. We cook all day and we appreciate being able to go and get lunch on our day off. Such a gem! Perfect hometown diner with great menu and service.
The best soups. Homemade food. Great service.
It was a pleasure dining at Pitkins. We had the Country Eggs Benedict, an Omlette, pancakes and the French toast. The orange juice was great too! Delish!!
The boathouse (roast beef) is excellent! Just make sure to get extra horsey sauce on the side and extra roast beef on the sandwich (if you've got the appetite ☺️) A+ Adam!
They have the best pie!!!!!!! We also had breakfast and it was delicious.
Was so impressed with this place! We sat immediately for breakfast around 9:30am, food and prices were great and our server was lovely. The vibe of this place and the entire downtown is so charming. Good portions, we had the blueberry pancakes and western omelette. Hot chocolate was also literal perfection with whipped cream on top!
Stopped in for a quick lunch after a work trip. Everyone was satisfied with their meals. I enjoyed the pulled pork, and the gluten free bun was great. Can't go wrong with the potato salad either. Waitress recommended it, but said I could yell at her if I didn't like it. Would have rather kissed her for suggesting it.
Little too loud (need acoustic panels to buffer sound), but, man, the good was great! Crab-stuffed shrimp special, BBQ ribs, grilled Reuben, beef filet, traditional turkey w/ cranberry and potatoes. Great chef, great food, great variety. Next visit to Schroon, we'll return!
Great place for good food in the North Country - My dad loved his burger melt !
Pitkins Restaurant is a cozy and rustic place in Schroon Lake, New York, where you can enjoy a delicious breakfast. I ordered their Egg Benedict, and I was very impressed by the quality and taste. The eggs were poached to perfection, the hollandaise sauce was creamy and tangy, and the bacon was tender and crispy. The English muffins were toasted to a golden brown, and the dish was garnished with fresh parsley. The portion size was generous, and the service was friendly and attentive. I highly recommend this dish to anyone who loves a hearty and satisfying breakfast. Pitkins Restaurant is one of the best places to eat in town, and I give it five stars.
Our server was great. She provided an alternative sweetener when we requested it. The atmosphere is very vintage like the 1940s with old black & white pictures on the wall.
Becky was an amazing server and made us feel at home. Boathouse sandwich was fantastic! Don’t sleep on the potato salad. Spot on
Came to this restaurant with a friend a few weekends ago. From the outside a very unassuming storefront. When you step inside the staff are super friendly and the ambience is great. I ordered a decaf coffee and eggs benedict. The hollandaise sauce was super delicious and the eggs were poached to perfection. Definitely will be coming back here!
The food and service was fabulous. They opened the patio for us and our dog so she could be with us. Pleasant atmosphere on the patio with the town charm and people passing by. We both got unique sandwiches and the sweet potato fries were amazing. Definitely worth a visit.
This was our dinner stop on the way to Lake Placid and it was a great pick! Not only is the food fresh, fast, and delicious, but the entire ambience inside is warm and comfy, clean, and the friendliest staff around. We were so pleased that this is now going to be a staple on our way to and from the Adirondacks. Thank you for such a great place to enjoy a meal.
Wonderful place to stop and eat. Food was very good and reasonable. Would eat there again! Thank you!
Breakfast was great after coming from a few days at Otis mountain. They seated nine of us at a big round table without a hitch— the staff was very friendly. The biscuits and gravy were great, and the pancakes were very good with real maple syrup for an extra $1.75. Sunny side up fried eggs were definitely overdone. Supposedly they have a long dessert menu.
What a great little place. Bacon was cooked to perfection, corned beef hash was good and they even had mojitos.
Great food options right by Schroon Lake! The food was great. Service was wonderful, really attentive waitresses. I really enjoyed the refillable chocolate milk and ice tea! Place is maintained cleaned and sanitized. I highly recommend this place to eat when you’re around the area!
Delicious food. Service was impeccable. Very nice atmosphere. Unfortunately the upstairs was closed but it looked very cozy.
May cause dangerous levels of satisfaction. My wife and I stopped in on MLK Day and the service was so "suspiciously" friendly I almost checked for hidden cameras. This is a handsome downtown "find" that feels like a time capsule in the best way. To be fair, she had the eggs and I had the yogurt—so while we didn't exactly stress-test the kitchen’s complexity, they managed to make dairy and poultry feel like a five-star event. I’m only leaving five stars because I can’t leave six to spite the competition. If you hate warm coffee, genuine charm, and feeling happy, avoid this place at all costs.
LOVED this place. Listing it as our top find (so far) in Schroon Lake. We ate here twice already and both breakfasts were outstanding. The eggs were prepared perfectly, the bacon was nice and crisp (but not overdone), the blueberry pancakes were fluffy and delicious. The hash browns were shredded and crispy which I love! There were plenty of gluten free options and substitutions were no problem. It can get crowded, but both times we were seated immediately (party of 6), and served promptly. Our servers were all great, but Luminara took good care of us the second visit. We would go back today, but they are closed on Wednesday!!!! Two suggestions. Up your game a bit on your coffee (just me, everyone else liked it), but I like darker roasts, and add a breakfast burrito!!!!
Never disappoints. The meat loaf is so good. But breakfast here also is off the charts good. The prices are so reasonable. The desserts are to die for. The carrot cake is probably the best I’ve ever had.
We were tourists from the UK travelling down from Canada to NYC and found this amazing restaurant in a lovely little town. The food and service was brilliant . Thoroughly recommend it!!
What a gem! I would recommend stopping here prior to any of your hikes or Adirondack adventures. We stopped here and not expecting much. Were we wrong? This restaurant could hold its own even in a place like New York City. The food was excellent. The service was even better in the atmosphere was great. I'd recommend seating outside. They also have a great variety of craft beers.
Great place for comfort food. Rinds were seasoned well and fell off the bone. BBQ brisket Mac and Cheese was delicious with ample meat and wonderfully cheesy topping. Chicken chowder was good as was the French Onion soup. Sangria was not very tasty. The peanut butter pie was quite yummy. Service was awesome. It was loud but that is just me. Highly recommend. Reasonably priced.
Pitkins was recommended by local people while we were vacationing in the area. The restaurant was FANTASTIC! The service was great and breakfast was spectacular. Prices were reasonable and the location is centrally located in the beautiful town of Schroon Lake. We will definitely be back. Highly recommended!
We stopped in Schroon Lake to get fuel, take in the eclipse and grab something to eat. We could not have been more satisfied with the quality of our delicious meals and the great customer service. The fried chicken salad with ranch dressing, the fried chicken sandwich, fresh soups, freshly made pies and coffee were all perfectly prepared and presented. It's obvious why this place has been around for more than a hundred years. Looking forward to my next visit.
Wonderful experience and a very knowledgeable and courteous wait staff. The food was very good and reasonable.
An eclectic array of popular American cuisine. The service is polite and adequate for an establishment of its size. I had the special - pan seared salmon with parmesan risotto and green beans. The salmon was topped with an onion bacon glaze which added flavor without overpowering the fish. The price was reasonable for the generous portion supplied. Saving the best for last were the homemade pies. I had the coconut cream which was as good as any I've ever tasted!
I've eaten a few meals here. The place is always clean, and staff are usually friendly. The Reuben is good and well portioned. The fries are a Sysco product, which isn't anything special. The price is right as choices in town are rather limited. If you compare this establishment to other places in similar towns, this place would rank average. I do like their display of old menus on the wall. Parking on street is difficult to find as all shop owners & staff for entire town park directly out front, leaving no spots for patrons. The town needs to pave paradise and put up a municipal parking lot
Came here for a carryout breakfast sandwich during my most recent visit to Schroon Lake. It's so cozy inside, very homey. Was a bit of a wait for my order but well worth it for a tasty sandwich of eggs and cheese on a hard roll. Simple, but good. It's a known fact that Pitkins Restaurant is well liked by locals and tourists.
Great for a late Sunday brunch! coffee was excellent which was pretty unexpected. Good wide array of offerings. Service was fast and polite! Only downside was the sandwhich bun seemed low/supermarket quality. Will have to come back to try the brisket grilled cheese! Bill came and was so inexpensive which is always a nice surprise
Great tasting breakfast. The staff will remind you every 5 minutes that there real busy everytime they come to the table . Its a lil lite on staff but the breakfast is worth the wait
I had a delicious pulled pork sandwich and some tasty battered fries. Food was great, the service was very polite and quick. The restaurant has plenty of seating inside and outdoors. Table with umbrellas. Wonderful location would highly recommend.
We enjoyed a perfectly nice lunch at Pitkins in Schroon Lake. The service was friendly and competent. The prices were reasonable. The food was good. Between the six of us we had five different orders-- not a stinker in the lot. The burgers looked like burgers. My reuben with fries was...fine, I guess. The open-face turkey lunch looked very good, and the Schrooner Or Later (fried chicken sandwich) looked out of this world! That chicken was golden and crispy on the outside and dripping with juice on the inside, leaving me with just a touch of buyer's remorse. All in all, I'd go back. The gals working the front were young, but smart and capable, and the kitchen got our food to us quickly. Really, I'd give them 4 and 1/2 stars, if it were an option. Nothing was outstanding, but nothing was lacking either. It's a good, solid place to eat.
After a couple of days of sub par restaurants. for breakfast was delighted to find this little gem of a restaurant. Both the food and service was exceptional. We were two couples and everyone ordered something different and we all were overjoyed with our selections. Particularly enjoyed the Country Benedict.
Pitkins, my good friend Pitkins? You'll never know her the way I do. You could never order the Paradox Panini (not pictured), Fries with Poutine (additional charge), Cherry Coke, and the Chocolate Mousse Cake for dessert. You just can't handle the lifestyle and mentality of the average Pitkins enjoyer and I feel sorry for you.
Small, neat, and tidy, Pitkins was a "shot in the dark" choice for lunch heading north from Albany. Fairly easy access from the Northway in picturesque Schroon Lake. On street parking wasn't the most convenient, but that was partially due to the snowy conditions. The restaurant itself was compact, but didn't feel crowded even though it remained steadily busy while we were there. The server was very personable, even taking a moment to chat a bit when she found out we weren't from around there. The menu was what I would call "American Diner." Nothing too fancy with a good range of selections. Our orders, a BBQ burger for me and a Reuben for my wife, came quickly. Fries were included. My burger was tasty, and the house BBQ sauce wasn't too sweet, which was a pleasant surprise. The Reuben was a little thin, without much sour kraut. What really impressed us, however, was when my wife asked about butter on the bread, our server understood right away that lactose was the real concern and assured her that it wouldn't be an issue. All said and done, we both agreed that Pitkins Restaurant made a good pit stop and we'd go back if the timing worked out.
Came here for breakfast with 3 others. I had sausage gravy Benedict. Originally it arrived over cooked but the server noticed and was happy to replace it. The re-cooked poached eggs were cooked well the second time, and the sausage gravy was very good and definitely homemade. My friend had the blueberry pancakes that were very good and not too heavy. Service was prompt and attentive. I would definitely come back here.
Seated quickly, server came right out. Tables were clean, coffee was hot. Food didn't take long, we only ordered breakfast for 2, nothing difficult. It was as expected. Eggs were kind of over cooked. Chief complaint is that the pricing on menu is not the same as charged. That should be addressed. I didn't make a stink over a dollar but I'm sure others might.
We ordered takeout breakfast. Took over half an hour for an omelette and breakfast sandwich, place didn't seem that busy but maybe they're short staffed. Food was OK, prices decent. Not worthy of a 4 star but good for the area.
It was busy, make an reservation, but it was a quick turnaround. We found this place by luck on our way up to Canada. The small area is very cute, but let me tell you about the food: it was good. The star of the show was the pie. I got the raspberry rhubarb , the salty flaky buttery crust is perfect (because I am having it for breakfast). The sweetness of the berries, tanginess of the rhubarb and salty flakiness of the crust.. amazing! I might be interested in picking up a whole pie when I return home. What a treat! My husband loved the rice pudding. My cousin got the French onion soup and she mentioned it was good and she loved how the baguette/bread had texture and feels the toast of the bread, not too salty.
Arrived there for lunch and they said there is a 10min wait. 20 min later the manager started seating all his friends (or people he knew) while we were still waiting. We called him out on that and finally got seated, they delivered our food with an attitude, no silverware, no ketchup for the fries. We left and the ketchup we asked for never arrived. The food was good though, but bad service can ruin your whole experience.
Food was quite bad. The inside smelled like dirty dishrags so we sat outside. Pancakes were like Bisquik. Coffee was awful. Basically just 1980's style, frozen, packages, low quality American food. Truly just bad, bad food. I was very surprised. A shame.
Terrible experience with the wait to be seated. We had used the google option to join the waitlist online, but called the restaurant to be sure they received the request and we’re told that wasn’t an option they offered and we could only come in to wait. When we arrived, we asked to sit outside, and we were told it would be 5-10 minutes, so we chose to wait instead of taking an indoor table. Right at that point a table opened outside and was cleared, only to be sat with the party that came in after us. In total we ended up waiting for FIFTY minutes outside in the hot sun where there was no waiting area or shade. In that time we spoke to the owner who told us that our original attempt to use Google for the reservation Was in fact an option they offered/used. Once we were finally sat, it took the waitress 10 minutes to come take our water and coffee order. The waitress was Friendly, brought the drinks promptly, and replaced our eggs (ordered poached and came hard boiled) but only refilled the coffees once just before we left. Also the corned beef hash was the tiniest portion. The only upside was the we ordered 6 meals and 5 coffees and it only costs 85$ before tip.
During a mountain trip me and my boyfriend came here for some breakfast The food was decent but the amount of time it took for our meals to come out was ridiculous. They dropped our food on the ground and instead of letting us know what happened or giving us some type of compensation they avoided eye contact and we lost a lot of time out of our day coming here. I’d recommend the crepe shop next door
My family was vacationing in Schroon Lake this past week and while we stayed at the Lodge at Lake Schroon and had a wonderfully accommodating experience, I can’t say as much for the restaurants in town specifically Pitkins. We had a large party of 18 looking for food on a Friday night in July. We walked our party up to Pitkins and asked how long the wait would be and were told 20 mins. We sat and waited with a wide range of kids from ages 4-13 and while yes, we were a large party we were more than willing to wait, be seated separately etc to make things easier. We checked after we had been waiting 20 mins and were told it could be anywhere from 15-20 more minutes and would have to be seated outside as “there was nowhere to put us inside”. At this point, I was rather irritated as if it was communicated to us that we would have had a 40-50 minute wait we would have chose to move along to an establishment that could accommodate. They then tried to tell us they could seat the kids first at two tables by each other. When they show us where the tables were for the kids they were across the patio and didn’t have enough chairs for the kids. The staff was unfriendly and it was overheard that they couldn’t believe a party of 18 wanted to be seated. I mean how off putting to give your local restaurant some very good business during what you would think would be there “busiest, tourist season?!” Schroon Lake was a 10/10 but Pitkins and any restaurants in town to accommodate a party of more than 6 was a 0/0. However the Brown Swan at the Lodge was fantastic at accommodating us!
