Harumi Seaside Reviews
You have to love this place! Great local business with delicious rolls and great comfy atmosphere. Sit at the bar and make some conversations with the awesome chefs! If you like spice, the chefs can set you up with a 1-10 level of spice for your meal. Lvl 8 is my go to!
My go to Japanese restaurant around town. To be honest, I would not go anywhere else if I want my Japanese fix in the local area. Yeah, sure there are other Japanese restaurants for others, but for locals this is the place. The food is fair priced but the quality is definitely there. They serve A LOT of food. The waiters and waitresses were awesome as well. Great ambiance with great food. It can’t get any better.
Very well priced and sushi was some of the best I've experienced. Been all around the world eating sushi and this place is top of the List. Prices were incredibly cheap as well. In Los Angeles at home I would pay double, easily for dinner and get not anywhere near the quality. Very impressed and the service was great. Highly recommended.
Great sushi, super fresh, and never disappoints. Their staff is very friendly and does a great job. I recommend the Lana roll, the Regulator roll, or just ask for the sashimi special. The sake is awesome too.
Best sushi I have ever had in my life, the staff are really nice people. I love that they have sport games going on all the time. I also love that they have chopstick helpers if you don’t know how to use them
I visit the area every couple of months. Harumi is a must stop for lunch with a friend of mine who lives nearby. I have tried various lunch items and they all were yummy. The Ramon noodles are very good. The tempura is always cooked perfectly. My friend always orders one of the boxes for lunch. The servers are friendly and the overall experience is A+.
My first time there! I need to explore the menu a bit more, it’s huge.
This was our go to sushi place. Yes of course it's not super authentic sushi (supposedly for that, Akaoni is the place), but it's delicious all the same. The tempura ice cream was also a real treat and we ordered it often. Was a very sad day when we ate it for the last time before we moved from the area We liked the Lover's Point, Samurai Spirit, and Lion King roll.
I go here all the time. Favorite rolls are the Fantasy and First Love. We've been getting a lot of take out during Covid and I can definitely say that the vegetable tempura holds up after a drive home and the bento box doesn't. Rolls are all fine. I suggest ordering in person so you can pick it up right as its ready so it doesn't temperature effected.
The food was great, and the portions were big!
Great food, clean restaurant, attentive staff.
It was so tasty! My dad and I came here for lunch and we came in and were immediately seated. A waitress quickly came to us and offered us water or a drink. Not even 3 minutes later she came back and we ordered 2 rolls each. Our food came out in less than 10 minutes!! Such good quality and tasty fish. Staff were nice and friendly. Always showing a smile and were very helpful. I would totally recommend to anyone who was nearby and craving some tasty food!! 😋
The food and service was spectacular. Made us feel right at home. The waitress introduced us to new food items we never new about or tried before. We will be returning with more family members next time.
My absolute favorite place to go in Monterey. The fish is of astounding quality. You know it's a quality sushi restaurant when it doesn't smell like fish inside. Very fresh food and everything was prepared lovingly, I'd eat here everyday but I've recently moved to another country. The servers are so nice and caring, I am very happy with everything about this place. I haven't found anything that exceeds this place. It is top quality and affordable. Thank you for the wonderful California memories!!! <3
This is my favorite overall sushi place in the area. The restaurant is always clean and the service ranges from decent to great. They have a good variety of rolls and their rice always tastes very fresh. They have a scale for their spicy California rolls of 1-10. I started at 6 and went up one everytime I went there. The 10 ended up being less spicy than the 9, so I went back and asked for an 11. I saw this is a challenge to the chef, and he went for it. This thing had spicy sauce mixed in with the crab, and piled on pepper seasoning on top. It was pretty painful to eat, but I enjoyed the experience. My wife's sister was there with us and decided it couldn't be that spicy, so she had one where she scraped all the spice off the top and then cried about it for the next 30 minutes. I'd check this place out if you haven't already.
A hidden gem. Absolutely delicious sushi! This has become a regular habit of mine. It is a Great price with gorgeous and generous pieces of fish (huge). I am totally addicted the Megan's Roll and Bamboo Curtain. The salmon skin roll is also amazing. I totally recommend this place!
Really loved this place! Prices aren't too bad, and the food is all very tasty, seems fresh. The Grinch Roll is delicious and I would totally order again. The Carmel Roll is extremely filling, I would recommend either sharing that one or just making that your only commitment.
This restaurant is a beautiful example of creativity in sushi. There are plenty of amazing custom rolls, and the service is top notch. Make a reservation during tourist events, otherwise there may be a short (but WORTH IT) wait. Sushi chefs are highly skilled and a joy to watch. Facilities are clean and bright, and decor is modern and fun. Favorite sushi in Monterey Bay.
This is my go-to restaurant in Seaside. I always go in with what I plan to order in mind, but always check their specials board and things often change. Today, the Shio Ramen Special caught my eye and made a delightful lunch. Noodles, flavorful broth, bits of pork belly and more. Add a Japanese Craft beer and I left a happy (and full) guy).
This is an awesome sushi place! There is a massive array of options for everyone. There is even non sushi dishes you can choose from like teriyaki beef! Great staff and great selection. Top sushi place in the area. Priced by the roll, not an all you can eat but the quality is more than enough. Pictured is the Crazy Roll and the Night Rider
Love this place. Sushi usually never gets me full, but this place did it. Great variety, atmosphere, and service. Miso and ungai are superb. Generous thick slices of sashimi. Beautiful plating. I will come again!
The food was extremely good and for the price point I didn't feel as though I over paid. The staff was very welcoming would highly recommend for anyone.
The Sashimi, the service and the deep-fried ice-cream are not just a delight, but simply out of this world. We both Tae Hui and I love the place, hidden away in busy Seaside.
Amazing food with amazing service super nice staff
wonderful food & great customer!! doesn’t get no better than Harumi!!!
Fresh, delicious food and a menu with tons of variety. I’ve been multiple times and keep finding new dishes to try—everything has been consistently great. Highly recommend!
Tasty!! We had the chicken teriyaki bowl and the katsudon bowl. Each came with delicious miso soup. We added some baked mussels which came out perfectly hot. The cherry blossom roll was surprisingly very well done and just absolutely worth the money. I wish I had room for more sushi rolls but this place has me tapping out. Full on some good food. Altogether this food was about 86 bucks including tip. Not bad!! Our server was respectable and very attentive. Such a sweetheart.
I have been going to Harumi’s for over 10 years and I’m consistently happy with their service. Food is always great!
10/10!!! My first time trying this place and the food and service was AMAZING! I ordered the Fire Roll which was not only delicious but the fire display was definitely show worthy! The jalapeño bombs was good combo of crunchy, sweet and spicy! I also ordered the Miso Ramen and I LOVED that I was able to order it spicy (the waiter was kind enough to ask me preferred level of spicy) and my daughter got the children’s bento teriyaki plate which to our surprised came with fries (her fave)! I recommend this place for some good food!!
My food was amazing! It came out quick and hot. The waiters are super kind and attentive. Definitely coming back! 😄
The food was really good, service was good too! atmosphere is perfect, it wasn’t too cold or too hot inside. employees/staff are really nice as well
Our family loves it here! Great service, great food and the owner is amazing! They also support local youth sports⚾️💙
This place was amazing. The sushi was really fresh and tasted great, and everything was plated nicely. Even after we finished most of the food, you could tell the quality was good. The fried chicken appetizer was super crispy and flavorful, and the sauces were really good too. The workers were very friendly and attentive. They made sure we had everything we needed and the service was fast without feeling rushed. The prices were also really fair for the quality and portion sizes. For sushi, it felt like a really good deal. The restaurant itself had a nice atmosphere and was clean and comfortable. It’s a great place to hang out, eat good sushi, and relax with friends. Definitely coming back again
Food was great and service was great as well very attentive and friendly waitress and owner very kind black garlic ramen and regulator roll
I loved the food, everything came out fast and was all warm!! And all the people there are so kind
the way to my heart <3 their carmel valley & jalapeño bomb was so good !! 😍
Very good food! Recommended to eat after rock climbing
Amazing food great prices. Must go and eat!!!
One of our regular places to go for sushi. Dinner or lunch, you can't go wrong. Prompt service no matter how busy they are. Never waited more than 15 minutes from ordering to getting our food. Plenty of beverage options and the dessert menu is decent too. Usually way too full to have room for it though. Portions are generous. Slowly working our way through the staples. Haven't had a bad experience yet. The servers are always pleasant and accommodating. Another thing I like about Harumi's is that splitting a check between multiple parties at one table is never an issue unlike other restaurants around here.
Oishii! Ordered the 3 item comination plate for dinner on a Tuesday night. This was our second visit to this restaurant. It was not too busy, and we were promptly seated and given menus to look at. I oreded the teriyaki chicken, combo tempura, and inari plate. The inari with a little wasabi was very good. The combo tempura consisted of shrimp, mushroom, green beans, onion rings, carrot, and zucchini. The tempura was very good, especially with the provided dipping sauce. The teriyaki chicken was alright. Nothing special with light and dark meat. The salad and dressing were very good as well as the rice. Service was good as we were asked how everything was or if we required anything else several times. I put Harumi as one of the top of my list for Japanese food on the penninsula and look forward to another visit.
Great spot for sushi in Seaside. Its had different owners over the years. Happy to say that they went under new ownership and it’s back to its glory days. Favorite rolls are the Grinch Roll, Hot Cheeto Roll (ask for spicy mayo on top or on the side) and captain crunch roll. They have good miso soup, great tempura udon and nice sized bento boxes. They also have great packaging for to go orders. Normally pick up is 20-30mn for my order over the phone. I usually spend $80-$120 for my orders. So a bit $$$ but honestly worth it.

Exquisite hospitality and service, matched with delicious & authentic Japanese sushi! 🍣 our fave is their grinch roll && I love you roll! Ramen is also very good!

I keep coming back for more. It's great food for a great price.
YUMMMMMM Our server was Ryan and he was very friendly and did a great job! Sooo many options for rolls and combo meals Good sushi that’s for sure. And of course the traditional thank you’s from the chefs as we walked out!
Excellent food. I had the poke salad and it was delicious. Generous portions of avocado and sashimi. That dish didn't have any sushi rice but the rice they served with the kids' bento box was really good.
Our favorite sushi.. always has been. Tried a few new rolls we hadnt seen before and they were pretty good. Highly recommend!
Delicious food! Michael provided great service - kind and knowledgeable about any questions we had about the menu. The lovely owner came to our table to check on us - such a great place to go! Highly recommended!
Best sushi restaurant in the Monterey peninsula. Strongly recommend. The environment is peaceful and the owners are friendly and there for your best service experience! 👍👍👍
Best Sushi Ever! Su treated us with an absolutely fantastic cod with asparagrus and mushrooms. Perfectly cooked. Perfectly seasoned. We ate several rolls: caterpillar, shrimp tempura roll, california roll, etc... the highlight was the special avocado appetizer. It was presented like a quartered avocadeo, had crab meat in the center, and a thin tempura outer shell mimicking the skin. Other worldy!
Love this place. Bento Box has very nice portions. Owner took the time to chat with us making it feel more welcoming. Great place to watch sports. Definitely coming back!

The place was very clean and the service was wonderful. If I am remembering the name correctly, the Tiger Eye roll was absolutely sublime. The combination of the content of the roll worked so well together and the sauces gave it that extra deliciousness. The only things that I didnt like was that the wasabi was totally fake and not that spicy, the ginger was a pale color with no kick, the rolls were unraveling and falling apart, and lastly the price is too high especially compared to other local competing sushi restaurants. I still recommend this place.
I've been here twice now, I remember my first was last year and didn't really like it. This time the food was ok, it just doesn't taste as fresh to me. I'm sure it will improve more, just need to get more honest reviews like mines.
The food was great! I had sushi and it was wonderful. The price however was too high. I ordered two rolls because I was hungry as well as a beer. After including a tip, it came out to a little over $40, just for myself.
A little plain and out of date inside, but a great menu and good food. My husband liked the sushi, and I like the other chicken and tempura options. Low key, not fancy, but friendly easy service. Mostly families or groups of young adults having a casual evening out.
The food is decent overall and the portion is pretty big. Loved the food the first time we visited so we went back but the second time wasn’t as good. Esp the katsu don was way too sweet. They said they use the tempura sauce for katsu don which I don’t think is the traditional way. Karaage and the sweet wasabi sauce that it comes with was good.
Okay so our neighbor and good friend chose to have his birthday dinner here. He reserved the back room for us to have some privacy. The food was tasty and served quickly by an attentive server. The prices were a bit higher than in the past but it’s just a sign of the current times. Try it and you’ll enjoy!😀
Went for lunch - the service was good and quick. I got the chirashi bowl with salad and miso soup. Both the salad and soup were great. The portion for the chirashi was good, but had a lot more rice than what seemed necessary and the rice didn't seem super fresh. The fish, however, was fresh and the bowl came with 6 types of sashimi and a total of ~13 prices. Overall, I would recommend checking it out.
Tried this place for the first time and was greeted by very friendly happy employees. We ordered Hawaiian Roll, salmon skin hand roll, Tamago and Philly roll with veggie gyoza, all very good. Ray, our waiter, was especially attentive and the food came fast for a busy Friday night. I'll be back soon for a lunch special. 👍⭐👏
Stopped by this place on a rainy Saturday afternoon for a bowl of chicken nabeyaki udon. Restaurant is located on the perimeter of a sketchy part of town. Sketchy meaning you see homeless people walking around. I thought the nabeyaki udon was alright. In essence, I had soup with chicken leg meat and udon noodles, with a bit of fake squid and diced seaweed. There was no other veggies, like daikons, Napa cabbage, sliced carrots, or even an egg. I’ve been to other Japanese restaurants where they give you more than just chicken when you order the chicken nabeyaki udon. They include Napa cabbage and sliced carrots, served in a cast iron pot so that you feel like you got your money’s worth. I might come back and try their sushi another day. Sushi Time further south on the same road has better nabeyaki udon.
Sushi is fresh and delicious. Service is prompt and friendly. Fried banana w ice cream for dessert is a must. This would be a 5/5 but we were served frozen rock solid cheesecake, so avoid that
I had the Kuromayu Ramen, and it was pretty solid. The broth had a nice depth of flavor, though it wasn’t as bold as I expected. The noodles were cooked well, with a good bite, and the toppings were fresh and well-portioned. The presentation was also on point. What really stood out was the service—our waitress was fantastic! She was friendly, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed without being overbearing. The restaurant had a cozy atmosphere, making it a nice place to enjoy a meal. Overall, a great experience, and I’d definitely come back to try more dishes!
Waitress was very nice! Very attentive, good was Yumyumyum

The portions were very large and the food was good. I tried the fried lobster roll and it was exceptional. The role that was a miss for me was the blackjack With cream cheese.
We went there for dinner, passing thru the city on road trip and husband was craving for hot soupy noodle. The udon he ordered hit the spot. Sashimi was fresh and lots of rolls to choose from.
Tuna roll was bit tough, not prime piece of Tuna. Salmon was good.
Food was decent. It wasn't the greatest. The Tonkatsu Ramen wasn't boiled for 48hrs. It was commercial soup base. The chashu wasn't melt in your mouth. The rest of our food was pretty good...the soft shell crab! Was the best!
I ordered one roll for to-go. It took over 20mins to make and the lady made me stand by the freezing door. Food is yummy though so if you want to-go I'd recommend waiting in your car instead. I would've done that if the cashier had told me how long the wait would be.
This restaurant is just average. I would say the alcohol is a little overpriced, the sushi is ok. The ramen is also ok; its not bad, just not great. We had the "philly roll" "lana roll" "lover's point" , soft-shell crab, and the tonkotsu ramen. Someone in the reviews recommended the softshell crab. I think its a little sweet strangely. Also quite expensive for the quality :/
We always love their food and we go there pretty often. However, the laziness of the sushi chef has made me question eating sushi here again. Asked for a vegan roll. It was clearly at least supposed to be vegetarian. I pried apart four peices of the veggie roll I ordered and found salmon... Very put off by this, as should any other vegan or vegetarian who plans to eat here. Check your rolls well. I was lucky I did. I'm pregnant and vegan and this would have made me sick if I hadnt seen it.
The food was amazing, and I loved the taste. However, a few hours after eating, I felt pretty ill and ended up losing dinner.
Boring bland sushi. Honestly sushi from Safeway is much better. They charge $4 for a fountain drink lemonade. No refills, as for a refill and get a second $4 glass. But that would be tolerable if the sushi was even average. No flavor at all. The unagi does not even come with the classic unagi sauce! Avoid this place.
New ownership as of late 2019, quality has gone way down and the loyalty cards are no longer accepted. Review is pending a coming visit. Edit- having been here post-Covid, I can say that this place is pretty good but not quite as good as they used to be. It really is a bummer because the location is great. I would go again but it’s no longer my top choice.
On a visit to Monterey we came across Harumi Japanese restaurant, we started with the tempura appetizer it was ok nothing special about it, and we ordered the deluxe sashimi and it was excellent. We had 3 rolls white dragon, kamikaze, and the Megan rolls. Nothing so special about them. The rice was falling apart, flavor was blunt. Wasn’t too impressed. In general I’ll give it 3 stars.

We ordered sushi online for take away. It was rather disappointing overall. The flavors were just lacking. When I went to pickup, it was ready a little early and the staff was kind. The restaurant appeared clean. Unfortunately, I don’t think we would be back.
I will preface by saying I got take out. I really wanted to like this place but unfortunately, the price vs quality is ridiculous. The tofu don noodles were over cooked and the tofu tempura was mush. (Plus it had fish cakes) The sushi pieces were small and a bit bland. The takoyaki was small with barely any toppings (sauce, mayo, and no bonito flakes!). The potstickers were slightly burnt with a sour vinegar dipping sauce. I ordered the kani salad and received what looked like and entire cucumber sliced up with a little scoop of imitation crab meat. (Vinegar sauce also) Just overall kind of felt a bit disappointed with everything however! I loved the Big Sir roll and the fried jalapeños. They were great and I would get just those again.
They changed the menu and raised the prices. The miso soup tasted like it was watered down. There was literally two tiny strips of seaweed and three tiny cubes of tofu. Tasted like dirty water. Gross, are you really trying to rip people off with miso soup? Sad. We ordered one green tea and one ice tea. Two different waitresses were checking on us. Great but, one of them refilled the ice tea and then the other waitress brought another ice tea??? We got charged for three ice teas. ???? Again , really? Cheap and sad . The fish was of a very poor quality. Just very disappointed with the whole experience. Will never go there again! And we used to frequent this establishment once a week. No more. What a rip off
Worst takoyaki we’ve ever eaten (only one tiny piece of octopus). Server forgot what we ordered. After they thought they had brought us everything, the lead server/manager came to ask if we would like anything else. They actually forgot something. Typical tourist restaurants, where customers visit once and never come back. We ordered eel roll with cucumber and avocado, and avocado was nowhere to be found. Eel is usually the easiest sushi piece but this one is eww. Not worth the meal.
Our bill was around $60 plus tip but when it came out on our bank statement we were charged $123. I called to have it corrected and was told that charge was put in incorrectly and I would receive a refund within 5 to 7 days. It has been over a month and the refund still has not come, so be away this place will scam you.
Harumi Sushi maintains very poor sanitary conditions. Myself and a friend were going to have lunch here until we had a horrifying experience. After we got seated my friend had her hand on the table and felt something all of a sudden. She had a roach crawling on her hand. After her panic attack and calming her down we decided to leave and definitely not eat anything from this restaurant. I have been to many restaurants and never had a roach crawling on my hand. Harumi is disgusting and I would never eat in a filthy environment like this. I also discovered this restaurant is not Japanese it is a Korean business.
As Seaside residents, my husband and I have ordered from Harumi a few times either at the restaurant or as a take-out. The quality and taste of your meals has always been good, after all, we are repeat customers. Tonight (13 July), however it was extremely disappointing and frankly, a waste of money Unlike last week's take out, the cucumber salad was dry, bitter, and honestly, inedible. We each took a bite and threw away the rest. The two baked rolls (Carmel Valley and Zen Fusion) tasted awful. My wife had to spit out the Zen Fusion, and the Carmel Valley did not taste anything like what we had last weekend. Finally, the Negi Hama Maki was simply bland. On the upside, the kids did not complain about their Chicken Katsu. As a local customer, I placed a courtesy call to provide a genuine feedback on the quality of our meal, but the lady who picked up the phone put me on hold, and the gentleman who I spoke with did not care a bit. My hope is that the someone at Harumi does care about the quality of their food takes notice of my comment.
Service has taken a nosedive this past year. Last time we arrived at 7:30pm and were seated. They asked us our orders 10 min later. By 8:00pm they finally brought us our drinks and appetizers but they also brought the bill. We were surprised since they didn't brought our food yet. 15 min later they finally brought our food, and rigth after the elder Asian waitress keep walking by every 5 min just staring at us. At a point she started picking up our plates but we were not done yet! We HATE to be rushed in this rude manner. She even touched the food with her finger because she assumed we were done. We said were were not ready. By 8:30pm another lady came and asked us for the bill to what we said we were not done yet. We asked for desert (tempura ice cream) but the thing was already frozen up and no freshly made as it has always been. The food quality has been decaying so fast as well. Before, the rolls had substantial ingredients but now mostly consists of rice. The chicken teriyaki was COLD. By 8:45pm they had us just tired and very uncomfortable of the many times they keep pressuring us. We decided not to tip due to horrible service and yet the lady demanded tip. We stayed firm and said no. Hopefully, this sends a message that service needs to improve. This is sad since we have been regulars.
Harumi is not a Japanese restaurant!! This is a Korean owned business that has a Hispanic staff. My waitress had difficulty communicating in English and she had somewhat of a bad attitude. She was more focused on the table behind me with a group of Mexican guys that she was flirting with. The food was below average and unfortunately not edible. The Tempura was not cooked thoroughly and the chicken Teriyaki was dry and probably just reheated in a microwave. The Sushi was definitely awful and downright disgusting. Just from eating a few bites of food I became pretty sick. I honestly believe that there was cross contamination and unsanitary conditions that caused me to become ill. I definitely won't ever be returning and I did notify the health department. The parking lot is cramped and if you own a nice car you may wind up having dings from other vehicles doors hitting your car.
I was so frustrated and disappointed with the service and timeliness of the order. They don't pick up the phone when you are phoning in and then they tell you it will be ready soon but 30 minutes later it is not ready.
Very very disappointed. Asked the lady who served us what rolls are not cooked ,she mentioned what are they except after I ordered the dynamite roll. I ate like 2 pieces and felt something is not right. In side the roll was raw fish and only the outside is fried. We asked another lady who worked there she said "ah it is not cooked ,very sorry", she was nice about it. But really really had a bad time since I never put anything raw in my mouth. I wish they are more trained and answer the questions. Our dinner time was spoiled. My husband's teriyaki chicken not seasoned or had a teriyaki sauce flavor it did barely had any sauce. Never again. I never wrote a negative comment that much about a reasturant and I will not even say anything about the other roll I got.
