Absolutely the most creative and well executed sushi in Upstate NY! Comparable to sushi places you might find in NY and LA. The prices are actually great considering what you're getting and it's really just a few more dollars here and there compared to other sushi places in CNY. Hamachi collar was amazing (glad to even see it on a local menu). I usually try to dig for at least one negative when I give reviews like this but I'm at a loss...

My husband and I had an incredible experience at Hidden Fish in Syracuse. We did the omakase, and every course was unique, beautifully presented, and absolutely delicious. The fish was exceptionally fresh, and each bite felt like a work of art. What really stood out to us, aside from the food, was how accommodating the staff was. We don’t eat meat (only seafood) and don’t drink alcohol, and they were more than happy to tailor the experience for us. They even created custom mocktails, which were just as thoughtful and well-crafted as the rest of the meal. The atmosphere was intimate and refined, perfect for a special evening. We left feeling full, happy, and already looking forward to our next visit.

We loved this place. The atmosphere was modern and minimal but still warm and inviting. The service was great, very attentive without being overbearing. The sushi was extremely good. Every single piece we tried was fresh and well prepared, but the marinated salmon nigiri and the golden eye were our absolute favorites. Both were rich, buttery and full of flavor. The drinks menu was another highlight, with plenty of options and some really interesting choices. Hidden Fish impressed us on every level. We’ll definitely be coming back.

Very impressed with the food quality and atmosphere. The style of the restaurant is tapas so the plates are brought out as soon it's ready. I enjoy this style but the portions are small. Great cuts of fish and modern displays/decor. You can see how finely the vegetables are cut in the sushi, it is beautiful! The staff was very friendly and came around multiple times to make sure we were doing alright.

Hidden Fish is a nice little modern atmosphere hidden around a place that really focuses on local charm. The name is apt because we had a difficult time locating the restaurant but made it there on time. We opted to start off with the buttered muscles followed by a selection of their signature roles and a spicy tuna maki role. All of our food was fresh and delicious- there was no concerns about quality here. Quiet day for them on a Thursday evening. Our server Patrick was definitely the star of the show making sure we had a fantastic experience along the way. Very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. Finished off the meal with both dessert options mochi and yuzu sorbet. Of the two the yuzu sorbet was the standout for me. I’ve heard mixed reviews about this place but really wanted to check it out myself. The food is stellar, but priced to be upscale. I wish there was little more menu variety. The one vegetarian role was good but a little on the blander side. I think on a Friday or Saturday I’d avoid this space due to how full I imagine it gets but for a week day, amazing vibes!

What a fantastic experience. This place is a true hidden gem. Quickly discovered why it's called "hidden" fish as it's tucked away from the main stretch. It's very quaint and relaxing. Dined in the outdoor patio with an amazing and knowledgeable wait staff taking care of our every need. They were able to answer all our questions and we even tried a snapper fish flight - chefs recommendations. Will return for sure!

Me and my husband love this place. Seafood always fresh and delicious, service outstanding, whole stuff makes you feel welcomed. Signed up for Valentine’s Day omakase dining, can’t wait!

Stopped here on the way back from Del Lago for my girlfriend's birthday. We got here at the end of lunch and were greeted as we entered. Service was great, food was fantastic. The menu is smaller for lunch, but the yakitori and gyu skewers were tender and delicious. The Jou sushi sampler was perfect. You'd be hard pressed to find higher quality fish closer than NYC. The Bluefin Tuna Belly (O-Toro) was thick cut and an absolute treat. The drinks were solid as well. Expect to spend a fair amount, but you're not getting thin cut average quality pieces of seafood here.

Absolutely some of the best sushi I've ever had. The o-toro was delicious. I'd also recommend the hanhan roll, the karaage, and ANY of their salmon options.

I went into this with minimal expectations and came out with a great experience. The food was excellent, from the nigiri scallops, crispy rice, to the yellowtail, Uni, Salmon Taro, and the beautiful selection of saki. What was a last minute date night, now turns into a new monthly tradition. This is not your hole in the wall sushi.. you’re paying for the quality and the experience and it was money well spent! We walked out and forgot we were still In Skaneateles. It’s a must stop!!

I've been wanting to try the sushi here since it opened and it did not dissapoint! I had two speciality rolls and they were both amazingly great! The scorpion was my favorite. I also had a gin-based cocktail that was quite good also. Service was very good as well. Sure, it is a little expensive, but take a breath & relax...you're in Skaneateles after all! 😁

Finally! A truly exquisite dining experience has arrived in our neighborhood. From the second we walked in, we were given a warm welcome . Our server along with the rest of the staff kept their smiles going through the entire night. This little gesture goes along way whether you know it or not. Everyone was attentive ensuring their guests were being taken care of. Bravo to the staff!!! And for the food...5 stars is not even enough. Chef Joseph and his team presented every dish like a work of art. It wasn't a surprise that pure joy came out from every bite we took from every dish we ordered. We highly recommend Hidden Fish when you visit Skaneateles!

This place is so amazing! It is such a hidden gem. You go down two flights of stairs to get there and turn a corner and enter a secret restaurant! The decor is very tasteful and the food is out of this world! The music is a little loud, but that is my only issue. I recommend the entire menu - this chef puts together flavors that complement each other and are exquisite!

Enjoyed a wonderful meal at Hidden Fish. It was my first time there and it did not disappoint. We were 4 people and ordered multiple dishes; shared them all and every single one was delicious. The service was excellent with Patrick as our server. The lighting was ideal, light enough to read the menu but not too bright. My favorite dishes were the crispy spicy tuna and the vegetable tempura. I will definitely be going back.

Everything was amazing. The most amazing thing is tied between Nate, Alma, chu toro, hebi with tuna instead of eel (Nate’s suggestion)

Amazing date night dinner. Arrived at 6:15 for a reservation. We were quickly seated and warmly greeted by our server. Started off with some apps and small bottle of cold sake. Karaage chicken and vegetable tempura came out hot, perfectly seasoned, crispy and delicious. The yuzu mayo was a perfect sauce for the chicken. We were in no rush and ordered some nigiri next. All the fish is clearly top notch and warm sushi rice is next level. This does not taste like your standard go-to sushi rice. Each grain is like a pearl and not over seasoned with vinegar. The chef knows not to over compact the rice for nigiri leaving light and airy. So good. We shared a Tara roll and it was amazing as well. So nice to have actual real crab and not imitation crab sticks. We shared another bottle of sake and friends of ours sitting next to us let us try their Dassai blue sake made in Hudson valley, soo good. Making a note to get a bottle of that next visit. We had the taiyaki for dessert, delicious pancakes in the shape of fish with a warm Nutella filling. Amazing way to end our meal. Service was top notch, attentive and left us wanting for nothing. I regret not remembering the young lady whom waited on us but we really enjoyed her and she made for us a special evening. Will definitely be back and recommend to friends.

My best friend and i celebrated my Bachelorette here on Friday (4/4). Bri P was an amazing server; she was very attentive, kind, and helpful! I would recommend having her as your server. Thank you for making it a wonderful evening for us, Bri!

Nate + Alma + hebi with tuna = dream team Matthew, you are truly a wonderful waiter. You deserve the world and many pieces of spicy tuna crispy rice. 67/10 experience.

An excellent sushi restaurant! Quality of fish and execution are literally perfect. The jealous drink is a must if you like lychee. Atmosphere is a little quieter but very nice sitting at the sushi bar. It’s off the beaten path, a true hidden fish lol. We had Patrick for our server and he was phenomenal.

Delicious food and great service! Staff is friendly. Patrick is all smiles and remembered my drink from the last time I was in. Food comes out as it is ready, which is perfect for us because we prefer a tapas style sushi experience. Highly recommend!

An amazing new addition to Skaneateles! The food, service, and atmosphere were all great. Highly recommend sitting at the bar. We were lucky to sit in front of the chef and watch all the sushi being rolled while also hearing about some of the inspiration behind certain dishes. I was super impressed with the uni and will definitely be getting more when I go back!

This place is amazing!! Our waitress, Nevi was so attentive and sweet, she answered all of our questions and made helpful recommendations. The food was SO good. The crispy tuna roll was my favorite part of the meal. I can’t wait to come back and think everyone should check it out, you won’t be disappointed! Best sushi in the CNY area BY FAR.

We stopped in after hiking and wanted to check out a new place. Feeling underdressed our server made us feel comfortable and helped us pick our cocktails from their new fall menu. We ordered 4 rolls and some sushimi. Everything was excellent. We can't wait to come back.

Hidden Fish is a true gem. Matthew was absolutely amazing — he really understands what guests want and gave excellent recommendations. The nigiri was among the best I’ve ever tasted. From what I’ve seen in other reviews, people love how fresh the fish is, how beautifully each dish is presented, and how attentive and knowledgeable the staff are. The ambiance is intimate and welcoming, which makes it perfect for a special night out. If you want great sushi, superb service, and a memorable experience, this place delivers.

Went after work with a friend to get a bite to eat and just hang out. The vibe of the place was so cool and chiq. Our server, Nevi, was great and made sure everything came out in a timely manner and always had a smile on her face, super funny too! Freddy was behind the bar but he made great conversation with us and made sure we got everything we needed! Definitely recommend going, the taiyaki is to die for!!!!!! Thanks for a great time!

Had date night here. Shared a few sushi rolls, an app, and cocktails. The food is AMAZING, can't go wrong. We had some things go wrong, but Josh and staff always came away fixing the situation, very well managed. Plan to spend $40 a head plus while here.

The food is amazing! Everything I’ve had has been wonderful. But the service is spotty—served tapas style but it seems easy for your orders to be forgotten. For example, we observed our neighbor table with a fairly constant stream of dishes while we had one of three brought and the server asked if we’d enjoyed our meals (that we had 1/3 of). This has happened twice. When they get service nailed this place will be exceptional but right now it’s a little frustrating.

Ok, where to begin. Upon arrival, we were a few minutes early after we finally found the place that is and we had to wait in the hallway. There was no place to sit, and with a bad back, that wasn't fun. After we were seated, we received a glass of water, and then the downfall began. It took a very long time to get a drink and food. We ordered a red wine we received a white wine. We ordered soup and appetizers and received the soup after the main courses came. Minus the sashimi we never received. The food we did receive was excellent, though. Our waitress seemed to be a bit lost, which to us did not make sense since there were at least 5 servers for maybe 12 tables. We would have stayed a lot longer and spent a lot more money if the service and the atmosphere were a lot better. We had a hard time even getting water. After we finished we asked for the check and asked that we not be charged for something we did not receive which also triggered us to look at the receipt which we found we were charged extra for liquor we never even asked for. We pointed that out, and the waitress apologized and removed it. But I'm sorry if we didn't ask they shouldn't assume. Also, in 1 of the bathrooms, the toilet was already broken and wouldn't flush. We will not return for a sit-down dinner.

As soon as we arrived and opened the door it was SO humid and warm, which is terrible for sushi. The space is terribly loud and lacks comfort. We sat and asked our server if there was a chefs selection and there wasn’t which is weird for a sushi restaurant. Our server didn’t know much about any of the sake or the nigiri/sashimi which was disappointing. We got 3 appetizers; the tuna crispy rice which was amazing. The salmon tataki was perfect. Scallop spoons were great. We also ordered a lot of sashimi and nigiri. That’s where it fell apart. I think anyone can make a good roll because you can mask the fishy flavor with many different flavors, but when going to a really nice restaurant we prefer eating nigiri and sashimi. Every piece of sashimi was a terrible cut of fish. The textures were way off and the flavors were disgusting. The sushi rice with the nigiri is hardly sushi rice, so that was disappointing as well. So, overall the apps were great, and I’m sure the rolls are fine too, but if you’re looking for quality fish, this is not the place.

Totally not what I expected. The tables were right on top of each other and the place was a lot smaller than expected. Although, they had an extensive sashimi menu, the list of available rolls was very limited. Almost half of the rolls were vegetarian. I go out for sushi almost weekly and found this place was way overpriced, poor atmosphere and disappointing. Will not be heading back anytime soon.

Tessa Hodinger

Great service, the waitress was so kind. We booked reservations a month in advance to try the sushi and we were notified a week before that our reservation was going to be a fixed menu instead. The menu really was not worth the $75 per person and was extremely below average.

My husband loves sushi, so I took him here for his birthday. The food ranged from decent to very good. The problem is the service. Our rolls came out first, followed by our appetizer about 15 minutes later. Our starters (soup and salad) never came. When we were finally able to alert our waitress, the response was somewhat defensive. It then took about another 30 minutes for the soup and salad to come out. At that point our table had been cleared. We were just going to cancel them, but didn’t see our waitress to get a chance. No one asked if we wanted another drink - our drinks were empty for quite a while, and we would have gotten another round. Overall a very disappointing experience, and we will surely never go back.

I travelled in from out of town and planned to eat here with family. The atmosphere is very nice, clean, and modern. Our server was an absolute gem. But we only got half of our order brought out to us. We waited for around 90 minutes without any of the rest of our food showing up. All we got were our appetizers. Eventually we had to leave because we couldn't stay another hour or two to wait for the rest of the order to finally arrive. If you plan to visit, leave yourself plenty of time, it may be 2 hours or more until you see your food.

Service started well with a friendly host and nice waitress. We ordered drinks which came out 15 minutes after we received our appetizers. We then tried to order sashimi but we're told they did not have sashimi or nuri for the night, all they could serve was rolls and appetizers. The reason was the chef was out for the night. The part that made no sense is they would serve the same sashimi fish with a sauce as an appetizer but not on its own. The fish we were able to get was very fresh and delicious. The sushi roll we tried was chewy and not very nice. The fish we did get in appetizers form tasted good but visually was hacked apart. The drinks were good but we didn't bother ordering a second round since it would never have come before our meal was done. The service was friendly but slow, we were out of water the entire meal, she repeatedly reached across us to place or clear items causing us to duck her arms. We really wanted to like the restaurant but the experience makes us hesitate to go back and try it when they maybe have sushi at the sushi resteraunt.

Beyond disappointed with our meal at Hidden Fish last night. The appetizer, a simple crispy rice with tuna, was barely edible. The crispy rice was so over fried and tasted like the oil it was cooked in with the texture of a McDonald’s hash brown. The tuna was not cleaned properly with connective tissue present. It was also fishy. We were leery to order more, but decided to try one, basic roll that had tempura crab. It was okay, and I mean, just okay. We did not finish the roll. They were also out of Sapporo beer! We were there for a friends birthday and it was completely disappointing. On a positive note, our waiter was great. He could tell the food was not up to standard and was very apologetic. The outdoor atmosphere was very nice as well. I really hope they figure out their chef/lack of chef issues and get things straightened out!

I had been once previously for lunch and it was an awesome experience, the food, drinks, service and atmosphere Was an overall five star experience. I was looking forward to going back for another great meal. This past Sunday I did just that with a friend that had been there with me previously. What a huge disappointment. The food was horrible And tasted like cheap Chinese takeout, the waiter seemed very disinterested in attending to us. The only positives were the drinks and the outdoor seating. The restaurant was empty except for our table and now I can understand why. After spending over $200 a table of two my expectations were a lot higher. I have never felt compelled to write a restaurant review, but I had such high hopes for this one.

Was so excited to try this restaurant it took 3 hours to get our food, not to mention even our drinks took almost an hour to get. We were a group of 5 but the restaurant was only about 50% full. We asked multiple times where our food was and were told it would be out in 5 min then proceeded to wait over an hour. After sitting for three hours and ordering minimal food ... the manager decided to take one drink off our tab. This could be a great place. I'm so disappointed. PS I did have to resort to eating soy sauce with chopsticks to sustain myself.

We went here excited to try something new, but it turned out to be a total disappointment and waste of time and money. Food: Mediocre at best, nothing memorable. Service: Below average. Our server clearly didn’t want to be there and it showed. Ambience: Almost empty (only one other table of two people when we arrived). That should have been our sign to walk out. The outdoor seating was especially bad plates were pre-set but covered with dust and debris. After pointing this out, the server replaced only the plates, then continued pouring soy sauce into dipping cups that also had dust on them, without realizing those needed to be replaced too. Value: Spent about $80 for two people. Not outrageous, but regretted every dollar. The only thing we actually liked was the little “fish fortune” gimmick, similar to fortune cookies. Everything else was a letdown.

L
Latha Ramalingam

was really disappointed with my experience here. The service was slow and inattentive, and the staff seemed disinterested the entire time. The sushi itself was mediocre at best nothing memorable in taste or presentation and shockingly, no wasabi was served with my sashimi. To make matters worse, I noticed dust on the plates, which made me question the overall cleanliness. The atmosphere felt cheap, yet the prices were sky-high, leaving me with the sense that I had wasted both my time and money.
