Chauncey's Solana Beach Reviews
I like the atmosphere here. Outside inside feel is great. I think they are still treading away from new to running. Oddly out of wine glasses in a nearly empty dining room. The service this day was order at bar, but they do deliver drinks and food. Yes the place is a tad pricey, but the quality of ingredients is worth it. We ordered two pizzas and requested thin crust. Both crust were crispy and delicious. We ordered the Hawaiian 5/5 and The Chauncey 5/5. Good selection of drafts, wines, and cocktails.
Absolutely phenomenal! Chauncey’s in Solana Beach is hands-down one of the best pizza spots I’ve ever been to. The dough is sourdough, which gives it fantastic texture and flavor. The cocktails are very nice with a great selection of beers on tap. The vibe is elevated casual, dog friendly, kid-friendly. Perfect for anything from a date night, a guy’s night to a family night out.
We discovered Chauncey's Pizza and Bar while looking for a meal before a concert at Belly Up. You MUST visit and experience their sourdough pizza 🍕 The Best!! A somewhat new business in Solana Beach, the atmosphere is fun, the drinks were excellent and the food top notch. Plan a visit and support Rich, the owner in this new endeavor here in the Solana Beach area after being in San Jose for 20 years.
The food is really good! You have to try the homemade chips/fries and the Solana pizza was yummy and thoughtfully cooked. We take the sandwiches and slices to the beach and it makes a great graze food throughout the day. Surprised by the glow up this place has had! Maybe could use a little love on the outside patio area w sunbrellas and comfy chairs but I’m sure that will come w time. Appreciate the chicken for the dog!
WOW! Think this may easily be my new favorite pizza spot. Ordered the traditional combo pizza to go and ate half on the car ride home. It was that good! The crust is to die for - perfectly crunchy on the outside, yet soft on the inside. So excited this has opened!
Conveniently located by the train, their pizza by the slice saved us! We had a long hike, and our family of five needed quick food before our train arrived. The thicker dough was good!
There’s NY style thin crust, woodfired “artisanal” style, Detroit, Chicago deep dish, Sicilian, cheap chain style,…just for examples. But how about those pizzas that can’t be categorized so easily? Thicker, tasty crust compared to paper thin NY style but not as thick like Detroit or Chicago. Almost homemade type look? Some familiar types in San Diego that remind of this type would be Mona Lisa’s, Pizza Port, Oggi’s (not a fan), Sardinia’s, Fillipi’s, Borrelli’s… I am always searching for something different. After much research and deliberation I came across Chauncey’s Pizza in Solana Beach. I read reviews, saw some photos and rolled the dice 🎲 I was floored by the quality and taste. I got it delivered down to La Jolla and it was still hot, thank you Uber driver! Sourdough crust was delicious and there was a perfect ratio of everything. I couldn’t decide what I liked more in every bite, the crust, the sauce or the toppings because they all were perfectly balanced andd high quality. At first I was pissed bc they didn’t do half the pizza with only cheese like requested but after tasting the first bite I quickly realized I wouldn’t want to be eating anything else! I was super impressed and thought I’d share a spot that has a different style than most all other pizza places in San Diego. Highly recommend!

We stumbled upon Chauncey’s while searching “sports bar near me,” and I’m so glad we did. This place is the perfect mix of a sports bar Solana Beach and a cozy pizza restaurant. We watched a game on their big screens while sharing a couple pizzas — the sourdough crust was perfection. Plus, the staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming. Definitely the spot we’ll recommend to friends in town for the weekend.
this place is spectacular! The pizza is incredible. Service is top notch and yes maybe it’s five dollars more per pizza than pizza port but the quality ingredients and the taste of the pizza is five times as good. You gotta try this place. It’s phenomenal.
I've been to a lot of family friendly restaurants in San Diego, but Chauncey's is special. The vibe feels both coastal and homey, making it great for birthdays and causal get-togethers. Their happy hour San Diego menu makes it easy to relax after work, and the staff goes above and beyond every time. Easily the best pizza in Solana Beach in my book!
My husband and I ordered a pizza and salad to go tonight. We are normally Pizza Port customers but wanted to try this place after walking by it a ton of times. Wow we thought that this pizza was actually better than Pizza Port! We got half of a BBQ chicken pizza and half Chauncey’s pizza and both were great! The house salad was okay nothing too great but a good side. Yes the atmosphere at Pizza Port is nostalgic but overall the pizza here tastes much better! The crust is incredible! I think we have found our new favorite pizza spot. :)
Chauncey’s is a great pizza place, a little different from others. I especially like the sourdough crust. And we had the vegetarian pizza which was loaded with fresh vegetables, cooked just right, very tasty. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Following up on my review 5 months ago. Chauncey’s Pizza & Bar has easily become our favorite pizza Solana Beach spot. The sourdough crust is incredible, the toppings are fresh, and the vibe is exactly what you want after a beach day — relaxed yet elevated. We love bringing friends here for happy hour Solana Beach deals and craft beer. It’s truly one of the most family friendly restaurants Solana Beach has to offer, with a patio perfect for kids and dogs. Always great service, always a good time Wonderful food and people. Nice large but inviting space good for families and groups.
Wow-so good. The sourdough crust is amazing. Salad so good (not always the case w good pizza place). We all loved the wings.
My husband and my dog and I went to Chauncey's yesterday evening. The owner approached every table and had a conversation. He made everyone feel important and welcomed. The staff tried hard to keep of with never ending flow of families coming through the door. All had a great attitude and helped each other out. The food is outstanding! The pizza is not overly cheesy and the sourdough crust is perfectly crispy on the outside but soft on the inside. The toppings are fresh and delicious and the Carolina wings are the best!

We were passing through Solana Beach and were so glad to have stopped at Chaunceys. Michelle was behind the bar and really made our whole experience the best! Super cool and friendly.

Nice large space to watch sports with large groups, but accoustics are harsh. Salads were good. Pizza toppings good, crust not to my taste, kind of dry. Good selection of beers. I wasn't crazy about the larger. Others liked the kambucha.
Atmosphere was pretty cool. The servers need to smile. The sourdough crust was really amazing. The cheese is really good as was the sauce. The sausage and pepperoni for mediocre, but they weren’t terrible. The prices are astronomical, even for this location.

Get NFL network!!!! Your setup is great but I get it if you’re not trying to be a sports bar. Nika is working hard! Great food and good TV setup. Service is spotty because inconsistent crowds. Tough to compete with Pizza Port. A bit expensive but less grungy and will catch on if the improve their table service! Need a waitress, wish Chauncey’s the best! Go Birds!

Good food, really slow with food orders. They will bring you your food, no plates, napkins or silver ware. People in our party waited over an hour for their pizza. Nice staff, but can tell they were stressed out. Great atmosphere. $32 for a pitcher of Pacifico. Pizza was good and crispy, Italian was really good. Kitchen was struggling to keep up apparently.
Pizza was really expensive (I realize the location merits higher prices in general). But geez, $40 for a xlarge pizza which really was the size of a typical medium. Sorry but that kind of makeup is robbery. It honestly tasted mediocre. Nice location though in Solana Beach. Could see it as a fun filled night time bar location.

We didn't even wait to try the food. We walked in and didn't even get a greeting, no "hi," "hello," or even "what's up." Then we asked for a high chair, and they didn't have one, even though the restaurant was completely empty at the time, so no other kids were there, which means they didn't even have one on hand. I thought this was a pizza place; kids love pizza. Then we asked about menus, and they pointed us to an area with menus towards the front. But then the people who came in right behind us got menus and were seated. After no greeting, no high chair, and then being pointed towards the menus while the other people got seated behind us and handed menus, we just walked out. Huge disappointment.
