As a photographer who loves working with natural light, The Market at Grelen has always been one of those places that just delivers every time. The scenery is honestly breathtaking. You can do your ceremony out in the field or in the garden area, and both are beautiful in their own way. Just depends on the vibe you want for your day. For portraits, the hilltop is one of my favorite spots. There are so many areas to choose from and the light up there is incredible. Sunsets are usually unreal, and on clear nights you can even catch a few stars for some evening shots. The vendor team at Grelen has always been so kind and welcoming. Every time I’m there it just feels easy, like everyone’s on the same page. It’s one of those venues where you can’t really take a bad photo. The quality of light, the views, the atmosphere — it all comes together perfectly.

The Market at Grelen was a stunning venue for our wedding. Nichole and her team were incredibly helpful during the entire process and we are just as in love with the site now as we were when we selected it as our wedding venue. And it is only getting more impressive with some of the additions coming in the next year or so. This is THE place to eat a delicious meal from their café and reminisce later about your beautiful wedding or event.

Highly recommend this venue!!!! Had an absolutely beautiful wedding and experience at the Market. The venue has everything a plant-lover could ever want! This location offers hiking trails, antique shopping, lunch cafe, and more for your guests to enjoy. Our wedding vision had lots of greenery, and integrating this venue's natural beauty and plants made our vision come true! Nichole is a pleasure to work with. Love this place and will forever be grateful our wedding took place here!

The staff, as usual, were amazing. The sights, smells, and colors filled our senses. The food and beverage selection was terrific. Our walk around the trails provided several wonderful sights and sounds. We will definitely be returning often!

From one wedding photographer to all the lovely couples out there, I wholeheartly recommend this venue! The staff are a pleasure to work with and the scenery is simply stunning. If you're considering any of the Grelen locations for your special day, rest assured you've stumbled upon a piece of Virginia heaven!

The Market at Grelen provided the perfect backdrop for our garden party themed wedding! The setting is absolutely breathtaking, and Grelen has plenty of lovely options for ceremony, reception, and cocktail hour locations. There are so many things that make Grelen special, but some of our favorite bits of Grelen magic were the stunning spring florals, getting to take sunset photos at the Orchard Overlook, and having their homemade ice cream served at our reception. We also loved working with Nicole and Rey! There really is no place like Grelen. We can’t wait to return again and again for many years to come.

My husband and I had our wedding at the Market at Grelen and I don’t even know how to express the absolute beauty this place has. Although the venue is breathtaking, the staff, specifically Nichole and Rey, made it feel like home to us. They are so welcoming and they just felt like family too. We knew this was the right place for us. I will be recommending this venue to everyone, and I’ll definitely be visiting Grelen to say hi to Rey and Nichole again and to just enjoy the scenery. This property will always have a special place in my heart. We love you Rey & Nichole! And Grelen! Savannah & Justin Manzie

Met a friend here for lunch. I was in awe of the beauty as soon as I turned down the driveway. This place is gorgeous! They have everything here....Pick your own seasonal fruits. A greenhouse for some beautiful flowering plants and trees. A little shop with great products. A huge venue for weddings and receptions. Walking and hiking trails. But my favorite part was the cafe. I had the best ham salad sandwich ever here. They have several seating areas with plenty of shade. Of course don't forget to have a scoop of their homemade ice cream for dessert. Salted Honey Caramel was amazing! I can't wait to come back in the fall and walk the trails.

We truly can't say enough good things about Market at Grelen. From our very first visit, we knew it was something special. Nichole welcomed us and she asked everyone's names (and remembered them, too!), which honestly set the tone for how personal and thoughtful the entire experience would be. Some venues we visited didn’t even ask who we were, but Nichole took the time to get to know us as a couple and helped guide us every step of the way. One moment that really stood out—on a visit with our family (we hadn’t let them know we were coming), Nichole still recognized us and came right over to say hi. That kind of personal touch and care is so rare and meant the world to us, especially when planning something as big and emotional as a wedding. On the big day, the Market at Grelen team went above and beyond. They helped with food, drinks, logistics. Basically an extra wedding planner when we needed it most. Every detail felt handled with love and professionalism. And the venue itself? Absolutely breathtaking. The glass tent is a dream come true, and we had the most perfect day we could have imagined. If you’re considering Grelen, do it. It’s stunning, well-priced, and filled with genuinely kind people who will make you feel like the most special couple in the world. Also get the ice cream!! We can’t wait to come back in the future and show our kids where it all began!!!

Such a friendly and helpful staff. The orchard picking was fun and easy, with a very organized system to weigh at the fields and then pay at the store after. The cafe has a large menu and everyone I was with had a delicious lunch. Fun beverages too! A great experience to grab some fresh peaches. I can’t wait to go back soon for some apples.

In April, my husband and I had our wedding at the Market at Grelen. We felt instantly welcomed by the friendly staff who work on the grounds, and then met the lovely Nichole and Rey who helped with our wedding coordination! Grelen felt so special because we knew we wanted something other than a Charlottesville winery for our venue. We loved the surrounding nature of the property and the fact that we can continue to visit as often as we want in the future! We felt lucky to enjoy the beautiful wisteria in full bloom for our wedding day (early April). Another factor that drew us into choosing Grelen was the stunning glass overlook tent where the reception was held… the lights, the clear view of the sky above… and how large it feels when you’re standing underneath it - truly magical! The venue can really transform into whatever you dream of. We had our ceremony on the “love lawn” but there are several locations you can choose from with great backdrops! The day of our wedding Nichole, Rey, and staff were on top of everything and I truly had no worries! The food order we placed arrived right on time and YOU HAVE TO order the homemade ice cream!! We received so many compliments about our venue overall and are so happy we chose to have our special day at Grelen. Thank you Grelen!! -Ashton and Michael

This place is just doing everything right. Stunning views, gardens, orchards, mature trees, accents around every corner. No doubt the wedding photos are breathtaking. Love and attention to detail is sewn into every space at Grelen. The gift shop is truly entertaining to be in, and the food/drink offerings are fantastic. I'm dairy and gluten free and had a delicious sandwich and two different GF/DF soups that were phenomenal. The iced coffee was also on point (decaf was available, and they even offer oat milk). The trails are well maintained and marvelous. My only suggestion would be to offer more dairy free ice cream flavors, maybe vanilla and chocolate, so folks aren't left with only sorbet as an option. LOVE LOVE LOVE the Market at Grelen every time we go, and always can't wait to go back!

The Market at Grelen is amazing to say the least. I got married here a few weeks ago and everything was absolutely perfect. The staff at Grelen were professional and communicated well throughout the whole planning process. The wedding was run smoothly and it could not have been a better day. We absolutely love that it is a place we can visit over and over again and it's not just a wedding venue. We have been to the property multiple times for lunch and to hike the trails with our dog. Every time we've visited the food has been excellent, the plants and shop are well stocked and the scenery is absolutely gorgeous. Photo credit to Alyse Michelle Images who did an amazing job capturing the day!

One of the most beautiful wedding venues in Virginia! The clear top tent and mountain views - along with Green's amazing events team, create an idyllic setting for celebrations. As a caterer, I always look forward to working at this tranquil location with the best clients and professional team.

I am absolutely obsessed with The Market at Grelen! There is an endless amount of possibility for photos on the property. The accommodations for the day from start to finish are always so on point and breathtaking. The bride & groom suites have everything you need and sit back in a private location that makes it convenient to take pictures before the ceremony. Their options for ceremony locations are all you could ever ask for to invite all your friends and family witness your union & photographer's dream. The best part is the views that overlook the nursery with the Virginia Blue Ridge Mountains that are unmatched at golden hour. The Greenhouse Reception tent has the most beautiful light any time of day & the reflection of the lights above is truly so romantic. Everywhere you look on the property makes a great photograph. The staff is so friendly and just does the best job running the show. Every wedding I've had the opportunity to photograph there has just been top notch & has gone so smoothly! Definitely consider visiting this venue & booking your dream wedding at this spectacular location!

There is everything to love at my happy place. Gorgeous plants, fresh, delightful food and beverages, atmosphere and the natural beauty of the mountains and trails, and a wonderful boutique! My home and yard are filled with local treasures and my heart—full of memories each time we visit the Market at Grelen! 💕

The owners are smart. It's a multipurpose facility, that I'm guessing started off as a plant nursery, evolved into a small shop for local goods and morphed into a sandwich and ice-cream space. In addition, they hold special events like wedding receptions too. The ice cream was excellent, and the sandwiches were very good. The plants are pretty pricy though.

This is one of our favorite places to visit - we visit several times a year and every single visit creates a memory with family and friends. Grelen is a beautiful, peaceful setting with so many things to enjoy. Berry and apple picking are two of our favorites, and we have hiked the trails and taken the Wreat-making class at Christmastime. Everything that is served at the Cafe is absolutely delicious. Every time we visit Grelen, when we leave we are already planning our next trip!

I photographed one of the most beautiful fall weddings at The Market at Grelen! Honestly.. there are no words for the amount of immaculate detail that goes into curating this wonderful slice of heaven. We got the most beautiful sunset photos with the Bride + Groom all thanks to their wonderful staff! It was one of the most pleasant experiences I've ever had photographing a wedding, and I'm in year five! Would highly recommend this venue to any Bride or Groom if you're looking for an eclectic mountain vibe! Looking forward already to my next visit.

This is a beautiful vineyard. I think the trails could be marked better or a path cut in and maybe the panini sandwiches could be pressed hot. But otherwise, the fruit is marvelous, the people are very nice and helpful, the market itself is gorgeous and full of beautiful items and the scenery is a must-see. I will certainly go again. Loved it so much.

The Market at Grelen and Grelen Downtown are THE places to go and get not only your special items for your home but also to get the best gifts for family and friends! And the Menu is superb at the lunch shop! I can't go often enough but my husband limits me a little!!!

Such a gorgeous location and FABULOUS food and drinks. The food is a bit more on the expensive side but that is reflected in the quality, and plants and flowers are very reasonably priced- it is absolutely worth the trip and we will be back!

I’m blown away by The Market and Grelen’s beauty every time. Every season I’ve been, there’s always something picturesque. This last Fall I photographed an intimate ceremony at their Boxwood location followed by portraits at the hilltop- some of my favorite photos ever! I can’t say enough kind words about their team. It’s always a pleasure to photograph a event or session at The Market at Grelen.

Our wedding (8/27) at the Market at Grelen was PERFECT! We couldn't be more happy with the entire experience. From our very first visit, we felt comfortable asking them all of our questions, and they were always responsive to our emails and calls. Kristin, in particular, went above and beyond for us. On our special day, their staff drove us and our photographer to a beautiful spot in the berry field at sunset, and the photos are just incredible! The tent was gorgeous, lit up with all of their lights. Although it did not rain, the Grelen had a contingency plan ready to go, and we never felt worried. Working with the Grelen allowed us to just relax and enjoy our wedding day (it goes so fast!). Their list of vendors was excellent. One other special thing we love about the Grelen is that, because they aren't just a wedding venue, we can keep coming back for their lovely cafe (especially their ice cream!), hiking trails, and greenery (every plant we've gotten from them has thrived in our home). We would highly recommend them for your wedding, or for a date.

Cool little diamond in the rough. Plenty of knick knack shopping and landscape items. Too many activities to list. Apple and peach picking when in season, ice cream and some coffee, beer and wine selection and pretty basic walking trails. Oh and the cafe had a simple but robust menu with options for kids and adults and somewhat eclectic options were also available . Seating was pretty much all outdoors so come prepared for whatever the weather ( hot or cold). And hard outdoor seats ( to be expected). Not super handicap accessible but not impossible. Recommend and would go back.

We cant say enough good things about Market at Grelen. We got married here April 2025 and it was the perfect venue. We got so many compliments from guests about the venue, saying it was one of the coolest venues they had ever been to for a wedding! It made for stunning photos! The team was also outstanding and so lovely to work with from day one. They make it really easy with their preferred vendor list (and we loved each vendor we selected). Nichole and Rey were so responsive to all my questions - very prompt and very accommodating. It was clear they wanted to ensure we had the best day and we did. Cannot recommend this venue more- we are so happy we chose it!

We had such a fabulous time! First of all, the drive out there and the grounds are just lovely. All the vendors at the Christmas Extravaganza were awesome. Had a delicious lunch from the Cafe. Wonderful selection of gifts in the shop. All the employees were super friendly and helpful. We did the cut your own Christmas tree. And wow, what healthy, gorgeous trees! So full and majestic. There were so many good ones (firs and spruce) to choose from. What an awesome start to our Christmas season!

I ran in about 5 minutes before closing and asked for help because my sister was giving birth and I needed to get a plant for her. The Market at Grelen in Somerset, VA is a wonderful venue for WEDDINGS! As a wedding videographer, I travel around quite a bit and see many different places. I visited here for the first time in April of 2022 to FILM a wedding and was quite impressed. The 600 acre tree nursery is quite picturesque with GREAT VIEWS in almost any direction you look. There are many great places to shoot both photos and video of the couple on their special day. When I was here, the wedding ceremony was held outside while the reception was held inside a very large stargazing tent which you can plainly see in one of my DRONE pics. I especially enjoyed riding a GATOR through the nursery and out to the hills for a sunset shoot of the couple with the mountains in the background. The footage was EPIC! This venue also includes a European Style Garden Shop, Cafe, hiking trails, and more. While I did not have a lot of time to personally work with the staff, I would highly recommend this venue based on my positive experience!

We took our engagement photos as The Market at Grelen, and it was the perfect location. The team was incredibly accommodating and even let us bring our 3-year old Boxer to partake in the fun. ALSO, they provided the ice cream for our wedding at Boxwood Villa and every flavor was phenomenal. What an amazing team/group!!!

Amazing Tree Farm near Somerset, VA. The setting overlooking the hills, the orchards and trees was beautiful. The Café offered delicious fresh salads and sandwiches. The Store was delightful. What a beautiful place. I spent several hours here and enjoyed every bit of it. The drive out from RVA is easy for a day trip and beautiful on its own. The views around the property are gorgeous and the market itself has so many delightful little spots, I walked around it several loops before deciding where I ultimately wanted to sit. Lunch was delicious, and so was the flight of Virginia wines. Later in the afternoon I had a flight of homemade ice cream and some coffee, and enjoyed the cute and indulgent little shop full of fun things. I can imagine that weddings here are absolutely gorgeous, but I’d highly recommend this place for a get together or just a solo getaway like I had. The staff were all kind and attentive. Definitely will be going back!

It’s a beautiful place with a great view of the valley, and they also offered apple picking and peach picking, starting around the end of August. There were also many people around the outdoor sitting area and enjoying the beautiful weather. We also saw the wedding space in front of the store. Overall, it’s a nice place to visit even though you don’t plan to buy any plants / garden tools. (Follow me on IG ➡️ miss_dawang)

Beautiful valley and lovely views. Gift shop with my favorite napkins by Caspari! Plants for sale and homemade ice cream. Very unique flavors. I wasn't a fan of the mocha but that's just me. I bought 2 super petunias in bubblegum PINK. I've seen these bloom and they are winners!! Places to sit in the shade. Fun garden center and gift shop.

The Market at Grelen was an absolute DREAM. We had a July wedding and it was better than we could have ever dreamed or planned for it to be. The staff, especially Kristin Simler and Morgan, we fantastic. So very professional and kind. They made our planning and wedding week so peaceful, effortless, and stress-free. The venue is absolutely PERFECTION. The overlook view of the orchard from the tent is breathtaking. We got married in the Half Moon Garden under the gorgeous willow tree. It was so magical and fit 100 people perfectly. It was transformed by a beautiful oasis by the staff! One of our favorite parts of the ceremony were the plants from around the venue arranged along the aisle, to create the most gorgeous atmosphere. The tent was GORGEOUS with amazing lighting and was so specious. No need to rent a dance floor, as the flooring there is gorgeous and dance ready! It rained after our ceremony and the staff pulled the tent siding down easily, making the rain an absolute non-issue. It was just beautiful to watch the rain from the comfort of the inside of the tent! This venue is absolutely gorgeous. The staff is amazing. It was PERFECT for our wedding day and we are so thankful!

We attended a wedding at this place, and it was truly wonderful. The venue was spacious, with separate areas for dinner, and the party. The Market at Grelen is an incredible location for any wedding. I photographed a wedding here in July, and it was spectacular. From the lovely getting ready cottage (with separate bride and groom suites) to the orchard of peaches and apples (where I photographed the bride and groom portraits) and the gift shop that's surrounded by a plethora of beautiful plants, this is a great location to host your wedding and celebration!

Had our wedding on 6/22/2024, despite it being the hottest day imaginable the venue was still a dream come true. The sunset and moonrise cannot be competed with. The venue rental included tables and chairs which was huge help, and they even let you use some of the plants that are on site! Nichole is the absolute sweetest! My only wish is that I could go back and relive the day all over again

From the first time I visited Grelen almost a decade ago, I knew it was where I would get married. It has amazing views like many places in the area, but what really sets it apart for us is the range of options the property offers (greenhouse, clear tent, shade garden, etc)! The clear top tent was exactly the vibe we wanted for our 2023 mid-November disco-garden themed wedding (imagine how hard it was to get my parents on board with that idea initially haha). We had our ceremony in the half-moon garden, which is an intimate, neat space that truly feels like a dreamy fairy garden. Morgan and the Grelen team were absolutely amazing from the initial planning calls to being totally on board for us bringing in a light-up dance floor as the cherry on top of our disco/EDM style reception! If you want a fun, romantic wedding, with endless possibilites to dream and plan your little heart out, Grelen is the PERFECT venue for you! (Also - shoutout to our photographer Sidney Leigh, and our planner Jaclyn Grieger who worked seamlessly with Grelen for our big day!)

Cute place to pick peaches and apples in the fall. When we went in the beginning of September, the peaches were perfectly ripe and juicy but the apples weren't quite ready yet. It's free to enter, you can drive all the way up into the orchards to pick your own. After you weigh your produce you'll go back to the main store and pay, and maybe scoop up some homemade ice cream for the road (really light and fresh)!

Love, love, love this happy place! Such a cute place to visit, shop, grab lunch and go for a walk… It’s a must when entertaining out of town guests and a great place to gather with friends.

A FAIRYTALE come true! The Market at Grelen is truly a magical place in which to host a wedding (or ANY event)! Our daughter had searched and searched for a venue with a beautiful view and stumbled upon The Market at Grelen and was immediately awe-struck. After meeting Nichole and Rey on the Events Team, we instantly knew it was the right place! They are so sweet and helpful and walked us through the process of creating her ideal wedding, step-by-step. Upon entering the property, one can instantly see the care and attention-to-detail that is central to all they do at The Market at Grelen. The shrubs, flowers and trees are all meticulously cared for, and each and every space is beautifully maintained. There are several gorgeous areas in which to host a wedding ceremony – The Love Lawn, The Berry Lawn and the Half-Moon Garden. We chose the Berry Lawn beside the tent, and hosted Cocktail Hour on the expansive stone patio, surrounded by blooming crepe myrtles and a wisteria-covered, trellised walkway. Because The Market at Grelen is a working plant nursery and actively grows fruit trees and berries, there is a seemingly endless supply of plants and trees for guests to enjoy during their visit. There is even an adorable sandbox near the entrance of the Market Shop to keep littles occupied while parents peruse the plants and Greenhouse. Let me just say, the clear-sided tent on the property, surrounded by blooming hydrangeas, is absolutely STUNNING! As night darkened the skies during our daughter’s wedding, the flickering candles and string lights made the space become even more magical and exquisite then it already looked in the daylight, which I didn’t think was possible. As part of the wedding package, the bridal team gets the use of the Magnolia Cottage in which to get ready. Of all the venues we researched, this was – hands down – the best “getting ready” space for everyone. Oftentimes, the groomsmen get short-changed in their spaces, but the Magnolia Cottages offers so much space for BOTH the bridal team and the groomsmen! The Bridal Suite is well-lit, has abundant mirrors and chairs to use while doing hair/make-up, a large restroom with full-length mirror, a full-sized refrigerator, and a lovely seating area to easily accommodate your entire group. The Groomsmen space has loads of seating, a full bathroom with a shower, and lots of hooks and areas to hang suits. After the ceremony ended, my daughter, her husband and their photographer were whisked away in a Kubota to a spot on the property with the most breathtaking sunset views imaginable. The Market at Grelen team has the system down like clockwork and always ensures the bride and groom are on location exactly when the peak sunset photos will occur! Consummate professionals! I could write more about how amazing our experience was, but let me wrap up by saying how thankful we are to everyone at The Market at Grelen for allowing us to create life-long memories there. Our daughter’s wedding was an absolute dream-come-true, fairytale event, and we appreciate all that the Market at Grelen employees do to create and beautifully maintain a space for people to make memories they will cherish for the rest of their lives. Our wedding was so dreamy at Grelen and it exceeded all my Italian garden wedding day dreams! Working with Morgan and her team was so seamless from inquiry to event. I can’t tell you how many people told me it was the best or most beautiful wedding they’d been to. I can’t wait to return for years to come on our anniversary and get lunch here. ❤️

I photographed a wedding at the Market at Grelen and it was absolutely amazing! The staff was very nice and extremely organized. The property itself makes for some gorgeous photos - mountains, greenhouses, rustic barns, cute houses, and gorgeous sunsets - just to name a few! Engaged couples, you seriously can't go wrong with this venue! You will LOVE it. I can't wait to work there again one day! :)

We had a great 3.7-mile walk around the orchard. Nice eatery with real sugar drinks and an excellent selection of plants for indoors and out. It looks like all of the trees in the orchard are for sales too.

This is my new favorite place and I will be back very very soon. Perfect for lunch, plant shopping, hiking, picking your own fruit, and checking out some awesome decor items. Market is beautifully kept and employees were kind and helpful. Grounds are stunning.

We had our wedding in October at The Market at Grelen and it was perfect! Throughout the wedding planning process, they checked in and helped answer the questions that we had along the way. It is an absolutely breathtaking venue with so much to offer. We are excited to have been married at a place that we can go back and visit for years to come.

What a beautiful place! The food at the market is so fresh and delicious; they use ingredients grown onsite. The nursery has the prettiest flowers. The gift shop has nice, quality home goods. And the staff is professional, friendly, and attentive.

It was a perfect day trip. The gift shop and plant stands were so beautifully arranged. The five of us enjoyed the walk to the apple orchard and picked a number of different varieties. Our lunch was so fresh and delicious on their charming terrace.

We couldn’t have asked for a more wonderful winter wedding at the Market at Grelen. Nichole and her team helped make sure every vision we had (big or small) came into fruition. From having one of our early dates on the hiking trails, to introducing our mothers over Grelen’s Mother’s Day brunch, to getting married on their property, the Market at Grelen will always hold a special place in our hearts.

Grelen is both a gorgeous place to host your wedding AND a beautiful spot to spend an afternoon walking, picking fruit at the orchard, buying a few new plants, and enjoying a delicious sandwich at their cafe. Best part is if you have your wedding there, you can come back to reminisce anytime! Both weddings I've planned there have turned out exceptionally with rave reviews from clients. There's something about the atmosphere that just lets people relax, be themselves, and let loose on the dance floor! Can't wait to visit again: to work or have fun!

This place is amazing. Fresh air, open space and trees everywhere! The trails aren’t long, so kids and adults can exercise and are well marked and the view of the valley is worth the walk. The cafe food is also really good even though it’s a limited menu.

Our September wedding was just as imagined at The Market! We received so many compliments on how beautiful the venue was. In addition, Grelen staff were very knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly. They made the wedding planning process and day of run smooth. I would recommend them for your special day!

Great food made by a chef on site to eat at the many tables, benches set about the place. We ate at one of tables spaced apart in the greenhouse because of cold wind outside. The door to the greenhouse was left open the entire time, fresh breeze flowing but not windy. Gardening paraphernalia and plants for all uses for sale. The trails around the property are beautiful and worth the time.

This lovely garden center was a pretty place to visit while we were staying at the Willow Grove Inn. There were lots of people visiting that afternoon, as the Christmas season was upon us. There was an abundance of of Christmas trees for sale, along with poinsettias and a picture taking opportunity with Santa. The gift shop was simply beautiful all decked out in Christmas finery. I purchased some wonderful ribbons to decorate my wreaths and packages with and would have had a bite to eat there if we hadn't just had lunch. We had a nice chat with one of the employees and she helped me choose the ribbons and made suggestions on things to do in the area. I snapped a picture of the living "Love" sign on our way out, and that was my thought exactly!

Food at cafe was delicious. Hike on grounds was fun. Do you post on the website when you will close early for weddings, events etc ? Would have been nice to know you were closing at 4pm and we needed to leave.

Great experience! Friendly staff, yummy food. The shop was adorable. So many beautiful plants and garden pots etc. If it had not been so wet we’d have walked the grounds more. Lovely scenery and environment.

We had a great time walking the property. Afterwards, we had a warm drink, small bite to eat and relaxed in the greenhouse area. They also had some beautiful spruce Christmas trees to pick from.

Place is pretty. Sandwich was delicious. Service was acceptable. However, $3 for a half glass of tea is unreasonable. Tea comes in what I would call a medium sized dinner glass, half filled with ice. We got the drink when we ordered so much of it was gone before our food came about 15 minutes later. We asked the server about a refill and he said we had to come back up to the window. When my husband went up and asked for a refill they said no refills. I'm sorry, but if you are charged $3 for a glass of tea, you should get a refill...or at least customers should be informed before they order that they don't! It really soured our experience and we probably won't come back.

Most people are probably looking at the reviews for weddings, but if you’re buying a plant, beware… they have a GREAT selection, some of the most beautiful mums I’ve ever seen, a great tree selection, etc. Unfortunately, their plants seem to be pest-ridden. I got an alocasia out of the greenhouse (yes, examined it first). When I brought it home I immediately sprayed it down with neem oil because that’s just what you do for new plants. Plant looked great, no signs of distress. Thank god I quarantined it because the leaves kept looking worse and worse and then I took a closer look and surprise! Mealyworms ALL over the inner folds of the stems. There were two emerging leaves that were still rolled up and I pulled one open a little bit…. it was COVERED on the inside in mealyworms. It was like a pumpkin creme cake roll from kroger except the leaf was the sponge cake and the mealyworms were the creme. DISGUSTING. It’s always a risk when you buy new plants that you’ll bring home pests, but Strange’s has always given me clean plants. Just saying. Buyer beware!

I found this to be a lovely location and really enjoyed attending a wedding here. From discussion though I have to recommend caution as the establishment seems to be out to shake down the customers for everything. From basic amenities that should be standard to extras that never materialized, each and everything comes extra despite the astronomical starting price. If you want to book here please have your legal counsel check your documents before signing. EDIT: This section will address the reply to my review by the venue and my closing thoughts The fact that the team doubled down on their stance on the pricing structure should be proof enough to reinforce all of my original statements. The plan and contract are based on the knowledge that the buyer will assume basic functions are included, I will not call out specifics as I do not wish to cause any distress to the buyer. My hypothetical example, not based in reality, would be that you ordered food service only to find that the serving trays the food sits on were not in the contract and therefore are incidentals. The concept here is that you have already locked in so any incidentals are pure profit for the venue as you cant back out at that point. The idea of a clear contract is where I really caution anyone looking here, please take this contract back to your legal counsel and have them look this over from a legal perspective rather than a buyer perspective. My final thoughts: Before the reply from the venue I was happy to leave this at three stars but considering they doubled down on their ironclad contract I will be removing one more star to provide awareness for others to get counsel before signing that contract. You have the ability to get a solid contract out of this but you are going to have to do your due diligence to ensure that you have the event of your dreams rather than the potential nightmare of thousands of dollars of "incidentals". Again a beautiful location without question but I urge caution. As a google guide with over 75 million views I take my reviews very seriously and make every effort to educate others on any location I visit. I am not a vindictive customer just someone that passed through the location and observed.

Disappointing Experience – Not Family-Friendly & Rude Service I was really looking forward to visiting The Market at Grelen, but unfortunately, the experience was frustrating from start to finish. They charge you extra if you pay with a card—which is fine—but when I asked about it, the cashier was unnecessarily rude. A simple heads-up would’ve been appreciated. It was blazing hot and I asked for water with ice for my toddler and was told they don’t provide ice and to get water from a sink behind the kitchen area. I also wanted to order ice cream with my meal and asked if I could pick it up afterward so it wouldn’t melt while my toddler ate. I even offered to bring my receipt, but the cashier just said, “no, we don’t hold food,” with zero flexibility—even after I politely asked a few more times. I ordered a beer but couldn’t carry it while holding my toddler, so I went to leave her with my husband. Instead of simply bringing it to the table, the server walked all the way to my table just to tell me the beer was sitting at the counter. Why not just bring it if you’re already coming all the way out to the table? I tried to use the family restroom to change a diaper, but it was locked. The employee nearby said it’s always locked and told me to use the regular bathroom instead. I had to change my toddler standing up—completely unacceptable for a place that markets itself as family-friendly. The other family we came with also had similar negative interactions with the staff. Overall, the service was cold, dismissive, and unwelcoming. With so many beautiful places to visit in Virginia, I won’t be coming back here.

COUPLES BEWARE! I am an officiant who has officiated well over 250 weddings in my 20 years as a minister. I have officiated several weddings at Market at Grelen. While I don't typically like to travel, this place is so lovely that I never mind …until recently. I don't usually review venues and I NEVER talk ill about anyone in the wedding industry - but this is too important not to share. Apparently, they were sued (wonder why?) and they have "cracked" down on all vendors needing a COI. While this can be standard, officiants are usually waived and in my four previous weddings at Market at Grelen - I have been. So imagine my surprise when FORTY-EIGHT hours before my client's wedding I was told that I had to present a Certificate of Insurance. I was told there were no exceptions and they sent me a link where I could purchase one. While they told me the cost was nominal, they were unaware of the additional fees involved and the cost exceeded the honorarium I would be paid. I get they want to mitigate risk, and I understand a COI, what concerned me was the last minute request. I received an email only 1 week before the wedding - the Friday of Memorial Day weekend - requesting to sign a waiver (standard) but I didn't think I needed a COI because I didn't need one before. They flippantly assumed I could go through my church, not realizing the policy and procedures of how faith communities work. I was only able to obtain one because I have a decade long relationship with my congregation and I was LUCKY that our insurance agent was in the office. Typically such requests should go through our board - and could take several weeks. My point - the Market at Grelen was grossly unprofessional and slow to ensure such an important detail was taken care of. Further, they were willing to throw their clients under the bus -two days before their wedding. I was told that ALL vendors - if paid - and even if only dropping off a cake or something for 10 minutes- they still have to have a COI. When I let my couple know what was going on and what I was doing to remedy the situation, they shared that they were having this problem with some other vendors too. For context, my partner owns a wedding venue and does not require COIs from vendors - and certainly not from officiants. He understands how ridiculous and burdensome this requirement is, especially for small businesses and sole proprietors. What Market at Grelen is asking is an overdue and unnecessary burden to their vendors and their clients. My point - The Market at Grelen is overly concerned with mitigating risk at the expense of their couples. Their staff is far too young to navigate these complex issues, and I would be very careful if I were a couple considering this venue OR THEIR OTHER VENUES: Boxwood Villa, Spotswood Lodge, The Grelen Depot.

I'll preface this with the fact that my experience was over 5 years ago, so maybe things have improved since then. One of our children had a wedding here, and it was awful. The ceremony location was next to a road within the nursery. In the middle of the ceremony, a tractor came rumbling by, right next to the ceremony. Ruined the entire mood. We paid extra to have access to the bathroom within the building, as the temporary bathrooms provided were up some stairs. When my wife tried to use the restrooms we paid extra for, she was denied access. Lastly, the room used to prepare for the wedding had numerous flies present. Parking was in a grass field, so women with heels had it tough. Maybe they have got their acr together, but I'd check on these things before you book.
