La Casa Sonoma Reviews
Stopped in Sonoma for lunch during a Napa Valley wine tour, and we found La Casa completely by accident - it wasn't one of the "recommended" places, but I'm glad we wandered a little bit away from the square. The tacos were amazing, amongst the best we had during our stay in California - accompanied by a lovely fresh margarita. If we're ever back this way, we will return here!
While visiting family, I stumbled upon La Casa and haven’t stopped thinking about their tortilla soup with chicken—it was warm, hearty, and packed with flavor. The relaxed ambiance made my visit even more enjoyable. Such a pleasant spot—I can’t wait to go back next time I’m in town.
Visited with my friend for a lunch between wine tasting. Recommended by our tour guide. We left restaurant very satisfied. They have really tasty and fulfilling meals. I can only recommend Mexican cheese burger which was very juicy and guacamole was good as well. Very attentive service.
The Sonoma Plaza continues to surprise me with new discoveries that I have overlooked in the past. Entering the El Paseo courtyard from the Plaza, near the Sonoma Mission, you will come upon the outdoor seating for the La Casa Restaurant. You can also enter the restaurant inside from here. Another entrance is directly in front of the Mission. I ordered a chicken burrito, chips and iced tea. This was one of the best burritos I ever had. Everything was delicious, and the service was great. Some places offer food that is good, but La Casa was exceptional.
I had the shrimp tacos they were extremely good and quite larger than I thought they would be. The shrimp was a very decent size. The habanero sauce was perfect not too hot. I also got chips and guacamole and without asking he added jalapenos to my guacamole. I love the extra mile😊
Amazing location in Downtown Sonoma, next to a historic hotel. We got an outdoor table and had the prawn fajita. The food took a bit long to arrive but was really delicious. The prawns were fresh and the veggies were tender and perfectly seared. The service was good too. As the name suggests, it’s a cozy and homely vibe that they have here.
Amazing place with amazing food, the staff are very friendly and very professional. We followed their recommendations and OMG everything was delicious. The only but is because is soooo good there are lot tourist.
Happy Hour here is delightful! Especially out on the patio on a summer’s evening. The Margaritas are refreshing! I had a chile relleno as an appetizer. Yummy! La Casa is at the heart of old Sonoma at the Plaza.
Best Mexican food we’ve ever had. Each ingredient was fresh and high quality. Attention to detail was excellent. Lovely setting outside but inside was also available. Service first class. Excellent experience!

Great Mexican food restaurant right off the main square in Sonoma, CA. Across the street from the last Mission north on the California Mission Trail. The building is Spanish colonialism and is beautiful. Love the retro neon sign outside and they decorated beautifully for Christmas. We were there for a large group birthday right after Christmas. The staff were welcoming to a large group walk in and they handled us efficiently and kindly. I recommend the tortilla soup and the nachos were also delicious.
Solid sit down Mexican spot with great crispy tacos and the happy hour nachos can't be beat. If you miss El Torito, you'll be happy here.
I had a very pleasant experience here. The food came out very fast and was delicious! I had the chicken chimichanga — the tortilla had the perfect crunch to it and the chicken was juicy and seasoned great. The guacamole that came with it was delicious too. Highly recommend!

The Plaza in Sonoma is nice....if you just want to sit, hang out, eat, or drive around. We opted to take our Mom here for lunch, she's lived here for 30+ years and always enjoys getting out of the house, this is one of her go to spots. We stopped in on a Monday, around 1 and had no issues being seated. The staff was attentive. We asked about the history of the restaurant (info hanging on wall) and they were not informed enough to answer. So much history in this area to learn about. The food was good for the price point, we especially enjoyed the chips and salsa. The green sauce had just the right amount of tang and refried beans were excellent. And bonus, their beans are gluten free!
Location is great. Nice outdoor seating in court yard behind restaurant. Average food. Good margaritas. Service is very good. We ordered guacamole 3.5/5, and soft tacos carnitas 3.5/5 and chicken 3/5. Chips and salsa 3/5.
So many options for eating on the square and we decided on Mexican. Food was good. Menu has plenty of options to please most anyone. Lovely courtyard for outdoor dining. Excellent service.
Upon arrival, we were sat pretty quickly and our waiter came to our table quickly as well. The food came and it looked amazing but had lack of flavor to the food. The drink was really strong and well worth the purchase. Parking was a nightmare and the restaurant doesn’t have a designated parking lot for their customers, so plan ahead to find parking if you decide to try this place.
I went for lunch and had the Taco Salad with shredded chicken in a crispy tortilla shell. It was perfectly made to order and delicious down to the crispy tortilla shell. My server was courteous, pleasant and attentive.

I didn’t want to be too harsh because this place served a purpose for our day. It wasn’t horrible. However… top shelf pitcher of margs… closer to the bottom shelf. Watered down. A mistake to get a pitcher. Silver lining, they let us take them ‘to go’ for our walk back to our hotel. Food. Poor quality. Not good flavor. Maybe authentic but not the kind of place that would stay in business with any locals. 3 stars. 4 was generous only because our waitress did her best and had to climb stairs to serve us. Bless her heart.
We took a tour and stopped in this town for lunch, so we decided to try this place. The staff was friendly, the food came quickly, and the chicken tortilla soup was good. There are a little too many vegetables but still good. The guacamole was delicious. The salmon was a little on the dry side. The drinks were good.
The food came very fast and the people were very pleasant but the food was just so so. Among the food we ordered, the carbe asada was probably the best.

Came with the family (8 of us) to the Napa Valley to enjoy the scenery, wine tasting, and celebrate the matriarch's birthday. Ended up in Sonoma for dinner and we selected La Casa. The Good: The inside is pretty cozy with some Mexican decore and we were seated pretty quickly. Average price of entries around $20 which seems reasonable for the location area Average: The food. We ordered chips, salsa, and guacamole for appetizers, as you don't get any complimentary items. The chips were ok, but did not taste like they were made in house. The salsa was average although it did have a nice kick at the end. The guacamole also didn't stand out. Too plain as far as flavor. We ordered Chicken fajitas, Chile Verde (carnitas), Chile Relleno, Sope, Chicken enchilada and 2 chicken tortilla soups. The portions were decent. The fajitas were ok, just not a lot of flavor. Chile rellenos were a tiny bit undercooked and that will make all the difference if you know anything about that dish. Sope, Enchilada and tortilla soups were ok, just nothing that would make me want to come back... The beans and rice did have a good flavor to them, but you didn't get as big as portion as expected and we had to order and extra side. The BAD: The service and The Chile Verde plate. My plate included 6-8 pieces of just fat, no meat. The amount of salsa verde on it was also rather minimal. Although you can expect a small amount of of fat on the carnitas, getting entire pieces of pure fat is not acceptable. I do not enjoy biting into unchewable fat multiple times and this ruined the dish. I brought it up to our waitress and her quote was "I'll let the cook know"??????? She didn't offer to replace the portion (about 1/4 of the "meat"). she didn't offer any type of resolution. She completely ignored the fact I had just shown her a plate that was unacceptable. There was more "meat" than Chile verde sauce. That should tell you how little there was. They add a 18% gratuity to parties of 6 or more. I did not brought it up to the manager because honestly, I shouldn't have to. I was there with family and I didn't want them to leave with a negative experience. I'm sorry, I didn't not want to include pics of the Chile verde plate with those nasty fat chunks. Summary: Although this place had great ratings, It did NOT meet our expectations. Would we go back? I can't think of a single reason why. Not the food, not the service, not the price.... 3 stars was generous because I try to be as fair as possible. 2.5 would have been ideal. If you do decide to go to La Casa, go with low expectations. That way you won't be disappointed. Our total bill was close to $200 for the 8 of us. 4 of us shared 2 plates and the other 4 had their own entrees. We had 4 Orchatas and a coke.
The place is historic and worth saving, but in my belief the owners staff could be more hospitable, there’s a certain warmth missing from typical Mexican restaurants. The food and cocktails was decent, not the best but not the worst either.
