Shorty's BBQ Sunnyvale Reviews
Freakin great spot to eat. Especially if you’re a truck driver. Enough room to park and enjoy a great meal! They are nice enough to let you park and relax as well after your meal.
I pass by everything smells real good an looked at the reviews maybe they just don't know barbq an I've never had it
Great food and the workers are very friendly. Ordered chopped brisket, ribs and sausage with green beans, potato salad and baked beans. Ordered a loaded potato to go. The beans were so good I ordered a pint to go as well. The sausage was a little small compared to the portions of the other meats but was still pretty good. Glad I decided to stop by after so many years!
Great little place! I'm a fan of little hole in the wall kind places, and this place did not disappoint. Brisket was nice and tender. Ribs were falling off the bone. Definitely recommended this place!
Idk if it was the hunger, the traffic, the loaded brisket baked potato, the bacon wrapped jalapeños, or the kind lady (Hailey) that greeted me and made the food for me, but this place is delicious and amazing. Everything I ate was perfect, just what I needed after a hard days work!
Seriously the best ribs around! These guys have been in business for a long time and it shows. If you want real smoked, no boiled, best seasoned ribs then please stop by and try them out. (We also got a chopped beef sandwich, cowboy beans, baked potato, and Mac n cheese- all delicious)
What's to say about Shorty's BBQ? A lot! First, I will absolutely eat at any table that has a copy of the New Testament on it! If that wasn't a good enough reason to pull up a chair, let me tell you that the BBQ is awesome. It's full of all the smoked flavors and tender juicy texture you crave. With homemade sides and a thick Texas slice of bread you're sure to be a Shorty's fan. The staff is full of joy and they are proud to be working at Shorty's! Stop on by and see why this small but smokin' place has been a BBQ hit for 13 years and counting!
I've driven pass this place for years I just happened to stop by I grabbed a brisket sandwich and I see why they've been there for years. The brisket was perfect and was not dry all I can say is that if I'm close by again I'm stopping by.
Some of these best BBQ I’ve ever had! The atmosphere is a real ole school style vibe. You walk in there and the smoky aroma of excellent bbq will hypnotize you. A huge menu, portions are awesome, and amazingly priced! The ladies that helped me were super nice, great conversation about bbq! I had the three meat. The meat does not need sauce at all but when you add the sauce, it’s even better and didn’t think that was possible. Brisket was tender, potato salad and cowboy beans are amazing. I didn’t order any but I did get a sample of the smoked cabbage and it can’t be beat! Sleep on it if you want to and you will regret it! This place is awesome!!
Love this place!!!! Can't get it out of my head. We ordered loaded potatoes and they were delicious. Good service. Only thing is that they only have a single stall bathroom outside so go pee before you stop and get some food. We will definitely be stopping again every single chance we get next time we are in Texas.
Some of the best bbq I have ever had! The sampler plate is huge! The girl said it was a bite of each meat, but really was a full serving of each kind. Hubby and I split one plate and still weren't able to eat it all. Will definitely go back and tell all our friends about them! Huge portions and excellent prices!
I've driven by Shorty's a hundred times, and after today, I regret every one. I should've stopped years ago and had some of the best BBQ in the Metroplex. Don't let the dirt lot fool you. This place is for real. I had the Texas Twinkies and a chop brisket sandwich. Both were fantastic. The counter folks were all very friendly and eager to please. This place is a gem hidden in plain sight.
Thanks Shorty Best little B.B.Q. I ever and dessert was someone good . CAN'T Wait too come in, I owe you a Beer sir! 🤩
Old school friendly vibe. Brisket was really good ribs and hot links were ok. Green beans were probably top ten best I had in my life. Haven't had that good customer service in a very long time highly recommend brisket and green beans.
absolutely amazing! I was heading back to the airport in Dallas and stopped in just at closing, and the staff could not have been any nicer. And when I received my brisket sandwich, it was absolutely delicious and the best Texas barbecue I’ve ever had.. and the ambience incredible it used to be an old gas station converted to a barbecue joint. It gets no better than that. This will definitely be my go to stop every time I come to the Dallas area.
This restaurant has been one that I have frequently visited over the past eight years. The owners are great people. They make excellent barbecue with great portion sizes. Highly recommend the loaded, baked potato, and the Shorty lunch special.
It's got semi parking on gravel lot but they do charge to park over night, even if you eat! And they have a guy checking to see if you paid after 6:30 PM. But food is good, didn't eat the beans🤮
Brisket and bologna were on point! The ladies were far too kind! A great little gem for a trucker to get some lunch and quick 30, split, or overnight. Not too much parking (maybe 10-12 trucks; depends on how creative some drivers get with the lot). For an out-of-business gas station turned restaurant, it doesn’t get much better. Definitely don’t judge this place by its outside appearance. Go inside! You won’t regret it!
The food was great but the customer service was some of the best ive had in years. Would definitely recommend this bbq spot
Stopped in by chance. If it wasn't for the eastbound construction, I would have never found this gem. Lovely atmosphere, friendly employees and dang good BBQ. Gonna try the gumbo on my next stop. I've heard it's pretty tasty. They have truck parking. The lot is a little beat up, but it is well worth the stop.
I really like this place, I brought a friend from out of town the service was amazing, food was excellent and they were generous with the portions. Had plenty of left overs.
I highly recommend the gumbo! Very nice folks who were very accommodating to a few requests I had. They almost undercharged me by quite a bit, but couldn’t let good folk like these rob themselves. The atmosphere is super relaxing and takes you back to the days before the world done went and lost its mind. Saved this place in my maps so when I’m in the area again I can swing on through. Plenty of room for truckers (city told them no overnighters) to park, take a load off and fill up with some down home BBQ.
This place is a Gem! When I pulled up I thought the place was abandoned, But I actually really like the astatic especially since I was already on an adventure to find some good authentic BBQ in Texas. The atmosphere inside was nice clean and rustic. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. They let me sample the Mac & cheese and bbq sauce. It’s a total vibe! I really don’t want anyone to know about this place because I want it for myself. It’s that Goodt! 🙌🏼 I got the baked potato with bbq brisket, sour cream, cheese, jalapeños and a side of mac & cheese.
I’m a truck driver that delivered to a customer down the road. Called Shorty’s and spoke to Yolanda at first, she told me that I can park my semi truck there if spend about 20.00 in the restaurant. I called back and let her know I only had 14.25 in my pocket and that I’m 215.00 negative in my bank account. She talks to her husband Brad, and they tell me to get a sandwich that will be about 10.00 plus tax. Then Brad (the owner) calls me back almost instantly and says ‘ when you get there, tell them you spoke to me, and give them your name, we’re going to hook you up’. I had tears in my eyes. Upon eating the amazing food, the worker named Holly calls the owner back, and he has her and his cook Noel to make me a couple extra sandwiches to go! Thank you all beyond words can say! The food, the staff, and the owners were all very friendly and loving above and beyond! I WILL definitely be back again!
Flavor is great. Real smoke flavor. Spicy barbecue is great. Turkey leg, pork ribs and brisket is excellent.I took some friend from other states and love it. Noel, the cook of the place is a nice guy, friendly and kind. Prices are very good, cheaper than other places I have visited. This became one of my favorites. Well deserved 5 stars.
This is literally my favorite barbecue spot in North Texas. First of all, meats and sauce are gluten-free. Second, the brisket and the pulled pork are top notch, as are all the side dishes. I’ve been going here for years, and it has consistently been great. Yes, it’s in an old building. That’s part of the charm.
My family and I are regular customers and we absolutely LOVE Shorty’s BBQ!! We’ve been eating here for several years and we’ve never had a bad experience! They recently catered our company event of over 150 employees and it was absolutely amazing!! They delivered the food and served as well and I cannot express enough, how impressed I was with the food, the service, and most of all the pricing. We will definitely be using Shorty’s BBQ for our company’s Christmas party and any big even we have in the future!! I recommend Shorty’s BBQ for dining in, take out, or catering because they can certainly accommodate you, whatever your need may be. Five stars really isn’t enough, they definitely deserve 10⭐️ Thank you again for taking care of us!!
Got here a little late. They serve me anyway got ribs and a brisket sandwich. The ribs were delicious. Nice little spot to stop off. Good for trucker’s. Plenty of space to park and get some good food.
Old school bbq joint. Have wanted to go here since a kid. Got loaded baked potatoes and they were stuffed! Better than chain bbq. Recommend this place if it's on the way and you are craving some bbq. They have smoked bologna which is something you don't see at most places. Will come back if im in the area.
Don't judge this book by it's cover! Rough looking on the outside, but relatively nice and clean on the inside. Good seating with an interesting ambiance. Very polite staff, I bought a 2 meat plate: sliced brisket and ribs (ribs carry a $2 upgrade), so my meal was $17 with tax. They had a chopped brisket sandwich lunch special for close to $10 with tax. Ribs were delicious, I recommend their ribs hands down! :) Brisket was okay, but I found it relatively tough and dry (overcooked?). I got 2 sides with my meal, and beans apparently come with all meals. The beans are delicious. The potato salad is off the chain good (it's yellow). The broccoli rice was disappointing because it looks good, but it tastes bad. I found the portion size to be within an acceptable range in comparison to price, and was quite full even though I skipped the broccoli rice. However the staff did offer to switch this out for no charge, and this made me feel good about my decision to dine here for lunch. I will stop by again and try the chicken and hot links next time. :)
It's a very interesting small place. Like a very old run down gas station converted into a BBQ. It's fun to visit with lots of old stuff on inside. The food was good but not the best BBQ. I thought the flavor of the brisket could have been more juicy and smoky with more BBQ sauce. I think the meat just needs to be cooked slower and longer.
I got the sandwich combo. Good flavor, a little dry but otherwise very good. Will definitely be back.
Third time is the charm? First time I went here I got a meat sampler plate, which was pretty good. Second time, the food was cold and tasted awful. So here we are for the third, and it was a mix of the first two visits. The bad - the coleslaw was terrible and so dry. It was so dry that when I looked at the bottom of the container, there was no dressing. I even tried to mix some mac & cheese into it in order to get some creaminess. The mac and cheese was meh, as I suspect they just melt one type of cheese into the macaroni instead of multiple cheeses. The good - the ribs were pretty. Not quite fall off the bones, but tasty and not dry. The pulled pork was nothing special but was really solid with the bbq sauce. Three disappointing things is the fact that they haven't offered turkey since my first visit but have bbq baloney (which is not good) and they need to quit stuffing the "pies" into the little cups. Just make apple crisp instead of apple pie if it's gonna be shoved in a cup like that or put it on a small paper plate. Otherwise, you are gonna get all the "crust" at first instead of the mix of apple and crust.
This place straight up is run down but the food is good and they have truck parking. The parking constantly fluxes between full and empty as most are stopping long enough to grab food and leave. I thought it was closed before I got to the front door but it is very much open. I kind of regret eating there because of how dirty everything was but the food was delicious. So if you don't mind eating great food at a nasty place this is for you, the food was pretty good 🤷♀️😂
I feel that eating BBQ sauce should be an option when eating good Texas BBQ. The chicken, brisket, hot links, & pulled pork that i ordered did not have any seasoning whatsoever... Salt/pepper was not used. I needed plenty BBQ sauce to make it taste good. The brisket gumbo was yummy and the food was packaged well.
The servers were nice. The food had to be heated up. The Mac and cheese was fresh so we didn't have any issues there. The ribs were overcooked and the brisket was more fatty than meat. I did ask for lean brisket, but I don't believe they knew what I meant by that
No real greeting, kinda yeah what you want. For almost 10.00 i expected some sauce and maybe more meat. But it was 1st time here, so maybe I was supposed to request it. I had beef brisket sandwich. Meat was definitely smoked and fresh. Bought to put on salad. Great selection of items to purchase here, food and otherwise. .lots of truck parking as well.
I want to move back to Dallas soooo bad for so many reason ! (Food) 🙁 I wanted a Baked Potato, this place was suggested to keep me driving to Dallas! Sigh 😞 They didn’t have chives or bacon bits! White onions? Why does it look soupy?🤔 Presentation is a presentation is a key. After I took it apart it was okay 🫤 The BBQ Sauce was watery. Driving to Dallas or my kitchen next time.🙄 (Shorty’s BBQ)
I really wanted Texas BBQ. We finally found a place with truck parking. The man was nice, the place was clean but the food was not Texas BBQ as we know it. The BBQ sauce tasted like tomato soup. The beans had so much pepper, I could eat them and the Mac and cheese was edible but the pasta was overcooked.
Heard about how good this place was so figured I'd go ahead and try it real quick. I'm not saying it's bad, because for the most part it's not. The sampler platter is a pretty good deal for BBQ! Its a LOT of meat for the price! The barbecue sauce is pretty decent as well. However i just think it's time that some people realize. Smoke is not an alternative to seasoning!! Smoking gives it a great flavor, but the two are meant to compliment each other! Not replace each other, you still have to SEASON THE MEAT!! In my personal opinion the ribs were the best thing by far! They did not disappoint at all!
I drive otr for a living every time I come thru I stop and get me a plate to go never had a problem BBQ is good don't like to compare it to any other places because everybody smokes different but food is decent but today I went in ordered and payed with a debt card big white girl cashier flip the screen and told me to answer the question of course it was the tip question I don't know about anyone else but where I come from you need to earn a tip it is not mandatory if I would have been eating in and attended to I would have tipped but because it was to go I didn't when she seen that I didn't she made a big fuzz noise and a stinky face about it like I was suppose to tip her for charging me what a joke with people like that makes me not want to come back someone needs to have a talk with her that's bad for business
First time here 3/19/25 today. I decided to give this place a try based on all the good reviews. However, nothing I ordered was to my liking. Sliced brisket, ribs, hot links, twice baked potatoes, && beans I did not like.! The staff was nice && friendly.!
Located in a building looks like it needs code compliance inspecting off the service road. Nice antigue deco inside. Got the shorty's special sandwich, small chips and drink 11.49 taxable. No sugar free options on the drinks and they were all off brand. Ordered brisket it was jet black when pulled from the plastic, like it had been sitting up all day from the night before. Served on what had to be 3 week old plain white bun from the local food pantry, was hard on one side. Brisket was cold and bit burnt. I'm sorry, but the rest of the menu items just didn't look appetizing at all. Employees were friendly, but the server needs to learn how NOT to sneeze than wipe his nose on his hand when preparing food! Wth? Don't think I'll be back just not worth the price for cold Q, hard buns, nor the TB risk.
Spent $100 on 2 potatoes, slab of ribs, 1/2 lbs ham,1/2 pound brisket. 1. The brisket was chummy, very dry 2. The ham was over cooker and very dry 3 asked for chopped beef and was given sliced. Again very chewy dry and awful. I’m not sure what happened to this place, but never again. Drove 30 mins just to get their food, being that it use to be amazing and very tasty. Well worth the drive then. Do better. You’re going down hill. Only thing good to say is the employees are super sweet
Place looks ran down from the outside, truck parking is available, drive way needs to be redone. The outside of the place needs a major makeover. . Took forever to get my order done due to the guy in front of me was getting a refund. Not sure why. I told the 2 girls I wanted my plate to go but I'd eat it inside. They made me an inside plate. Didn't really pay attention to what I wanted, I had to repeat myself many times. And correct them of what I wanted before they placed it on the plate. The Ribs and ham were good. The pulled pork wasn't all that great. Green beans and Mac/chess was good. The potato mix they had wasn't all that great. Place had a few Flys flying around that kept bugging me while I was eating. Place just needs new management and a major makeover to be more appealing to come back there to eat.
I live in Forney Texas and I never got an answer I kept calling I even call the one in Terrell Texas he didn't have time to check to see if this room was open and driving down there and no one being there was great disappointment so I can't give it a grade accurately! \
Smfh...don't know where to start , I'll try to describe my unfortunate experience! I walked in and right of the back you will get a bad vibe. The place was empty and of course I know why! I ordered brisket, and I was very clear to the cashier. I wanted the fatty part or marble part of the brisket. somehow, I got burned dry meat ...I don't mind paying top dollar for my food, but I like what I order, not what people feel I deserve with a bad attitude. Ribs were not even close enough to good or decent enough to eat. It's 1112 am. almost 24 hrs since I got this plate, and i won't touch it again I'm in midland tx and I hope I find a good spot . Overall I had way better bar b q in California and that says alot 😆.
I've went passed this pass on a couple of occasions. Today I stopped and expected wayyy more than I received for 18.00 my son received 3 rib bones and a small section of 2 sides. And I purchased the brisket platter. My was all set for everything this was NOT. And the fat content was too much the flavor was not there and I believe liquid smoke was used. The food tasted old, non flavorful and the seasoning was not there either. The cowboy beans were a no go and the jambalaya taste the same. The two we're almost identical.
I ordered about $70 worth of food. They didn't give me half of the food then when I tried to reorder, they cancelled my order. What food I DID get was good but cust9mer service is incredibly lacking!
No smoke flavor, I got sliced beef rids sausage, got two ribs had alot of little gristle bones all in it. the sausage seemed old and really tasted like a hot dog and the slice beef has no flavor just cooked,I got one peace of bread 🍞 it had a yellow ring around the enter part wasn't even toasted, the cabbage im pretty sure was sour, the BBQ sauce taste like water down vinegar , NO SMOKE FLAVOR, the meat seemed old and reheated.😭🤢🤮also got chopped beef sandwich, it really seems like there struggling and trying to cut back and save. It's just hurting them.
It was terrible. Everything from the food to the service. Ladies were arguing the whole time. Took over half an hour to order. We were for sure it was great since there were so many people. We found out quick they just couldn't stop arguing. Plastic was still on my brisket. Mac they threw in the microwave and it was watery no flavor. Green beans tasted old/sour. Texas twinkie was way over due to be thrown out. To top it all off our meat was cold. And it's pretty obvious when the brisket fat dries up like bacon grease. We were over charged also. One man came in after an hour of placing his order. I am sure because it was there when we ordered. He then proceeded to wait over half an hour as they never started his order. After they were arguing that 4 half pounds were not 2 whole pounds he was over it. I mentioned it wasn't worth it and he left. Another door dash person waiting since before us. Along with a few others. They were clearly racist. Telling them I can't help you spanish! The lemonade was great and my kids liked the bbq sauce. I dont see where to add photos but I have some.
Waste of money, didn't even feel comfortable feedings my dogs the crap. There's no way these great reviews are authentic
Very disappointed I bought a family meal and a turkey leg spent $90 on brisket and chicken and that was very dry and a turkey leg that looked to be a couple of days old won't go back
First and last time eating here. We got chopped brisket sandwiches. The brisket was extremely bland. It is like this place has never learned how to season their BBQ. Come on guy, SPG is the holy trinity of Texas BBQ and if you used it, whatever bottle it was in only breathed on the brisket, because that meat is begging for some flavor. The bread was also stale. The buns had no bounce or give at all, it was like chewing glue. The sauce is so thin it ran right through the chopped brisket and tried to soak into the bun, which was so stale that it just ran out into the wrapper and onto the plate. I had high hopes for a hole in the wall BBQ joint, but save your time and money and go somewhere else.
Spent 50 on food that made me and my husband sick. Banana pudding was a joke and briske6 was all fat. Slight food poisoning poisoning
Second time and last time! First trip was good food and enjoyable. This time…. $75 bucks later food was horrible. Old old old! Take my money give me good food. Beans were bland , chicken tasted like rubber. Brisket was good but the Mac n cheese dry as sand. I can tell they care about profit and not customers.. never again! Also, flys seem to be crawling all over food..
I'd give zero stars if I could. Place was filthy, extremely unprofessional. Called in an order, after arriving 20 minutes later and waiting in line for another 40 minutes I was informed my order was not made and half of the items I ordered they were out of. They had all of their meats piled on top of each other on one cutting board, definitely cross contamination. I was trying to check out with the few items they did have from my order but the two ladies behind the counter just kept arguing with each other whether or not 4 half pound orders equaled 2 pounds total or 4 pounds total. A family in the dining area exclaimed that the food was disgusting and not worth it, so while the two workers continued to argue over basic math I walked out. Would not recommend.
Im so disappointed 😔 this place was the bomb back in the day. I just happened to be in the area And figured i would get some bbq. Yuck 🤮. Chop beef sandwich was nasty and majority fat.wife was pissed that what i brought her. Ended up having to hurry and cook her something before i ended up in hell. I got the large potato with 3 meats. Potato taste burnt. Its gross. My meat was also nothing but fat. Only edible thing was the sausage. The apple pie was gross. Went through the entire cup and found one apple slice. When he tried to charge the customer in front of me to use the restroom I should have left. Guy spends 15 bucks and just wanted to wash his hands before eating. He was a Semi truck driver. Bet he never comes back. Especially if his food was as bad as mine. I should’ve left also after seeing the bbq sauce added to my potato. It was like water. It was so watery that when i got home it looked like i never had any sauce. That means it just soaked in it was so thin. Where is Shorty????? One rude Hector is all i saw. I can tell you back to back customers me and the guy in front will never come back. I wonder how many times that happens a day. Smh 🤦♂️ Shortys? more like closing down soon Shortly
I went here two days ago. The place is extremely filthy. It’s really unfriendly and the food looked nasty and dry as hell. This hole in the wall needs to be shut down literally like yesterday. I walked on out because I was so grossed out, and I’m glad, especially after doing a deep dive in the reviews, that I didn’t eat not a thing. Do not go!! Keep driving to take yourself to another BBQ place. I am STILL EXTREMELY DISGUSTED two days later at this nasty place. I will give it zero stars if I could, and that is very rare for me.
This has to be the most bland barbecue I’ve ever taste in my entire life. The chicken was dry and stringy, the macaroni and cheese has no seasoning whatsoever, the smoked cabbage is overcooked and tasteless. I am so disappointed that we wasted our money on this disgusting food.
This is the most bland barbecue I’ve ever tasted in my entire life. My husband got the sampler plate. The ribs had no seasoning it just taste like they just put them on the grill. The smoked cabbage had no flavor at all. I’m So disappointed that we spent our money wasted our money on this bland food.
This is the most horrible BBQ I have ever in my entire life experienced ribs under cooked brisket no smoke favor sausage taste spoil old bread the coke is even bad ..seems like they are serving days old BBQ.. At this point I'm afraid to touch any of the sides I ordered.. All the meat had a funny taste...I don't recommend this restaurant to anyone I normally don't complain or write reviews but this Got to be the most horrible meal I have experienced in my life!!!
Dont go there if you are in a big truck, they dont want you parking there. I Pulled in just wait on dispatch and some guy came walking out waving his hand telling me to leave. He said I couldn't park, I told him if I cant park, he wouldn't get any money from me because I was going ti get something to eat, but not now. I also told him that if wasn't for truck drivers that he would have food, clothes or gasoline.
Im not understanding if it was because it was an uber order or if this is the quality that they actually sell. Order was done by my wife to send to me at work. 21 dollars with fees and all, seemed too good to be true for bbq. Should have of known better. The meat, sausage, and pulled pork tasted old, overcooked, and dry. Too bad uber is not refunding, but this is one place I wont go back to or recommend.
This place has gone downhill recently. Ordered through THEIR website and paid online. They said they didn’t get the order. I showed it to them, they called “the boss” who seemed to be put out by the call. Tried to make me pay again until I showed them the charge to my account. Had to call the boss again to get approval to make the food. Small potato slathered in sour cream with very little brisket. Banana flavored pudding is NOT banana pudding - no bananas & a stale nilla wafer sitting on top of the container lid. Nasty. Do better or close your doors.
They really deserve 0 STARS IF THAT WAS A OPTION I WOULD PUT IT ! This place is DISGUSTING!!!!! DO NOT EAT HERE !! They have RATS AND TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE ! And OLD BBQ at that they obviously think they can get away with reheating food which is insane when they claim to have fresh BBQ everyday and then to top it off they have RATS ! 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮 THIS PLACE NEEDS RO BE SHUTDOWN IMMEDIATELY!! I CAN ONLY IMAGINE WHAT THE RATS GET INTO ON DAILY I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND EATING HERE TO ANYONE !! I bet they are the ones behind the fake positive reviews about this place don’t trust it !! THERE IS NO WAY THEY SHOULD BE A 4.3 IN STARS !! FALSE ADVERTISEMENT!!!! 🤢🤢🤢🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮 if I could upload the videos on here I would they lucky it only lets me post photos !
