Anderson Reserve Sweet Reviews
on a lot of peoples wish list, and for good reasons. great food great atmosphere, except to pay a god amount but it’s worth the hype. great drive from boise. I personally enjoyed the appetizers and we took home a cinnamon roll sorry no pictures.
My work colleagues and I recently enjoyed a delightful dinner at the Anderson Reserve, a restaurant and butcher shop. It was a truly wonderful experience, and the drive was certainly worthwhile. The Barn, located in Sweet, Idaho, is a fine dining establishment, market, and butcher shop. It presents a classy, rustic, and cozy atmosphere with a country feel, providing both indoor seating and scenic outdoor seating with mountain views. We found ample opportunities for outdoor activities, and I particularly enjoyed a game of horseshoes while savoring an old-fashioned cocktail. The restaurant boasts high-quality, farm-to-table cuisine, and our selections, including steaks, dry-aged tomahawk ribeye, and chicken, were all highly praised by everyone at the table. Additionally, there is an on-site market offering premium private reserve meats, wines, cheeses, and spices. Adjacent to the restaurant, The Cigar Silo offers top-shelf spirits and a selection of fine cigars within a rustic grain silo. I wholeheartedly recommend Anderson Reserve and eagerly anticipate a future visit.
We had an incredible experience. The whole building/atmosphere/vibe here is top notch, and a great time. Our waitress was very new, but she was extremely friendly, and very attentive. All the staff we came across greeted us, and were welcoming. Even the live guitar player was welcoming and a great touch to the dinner. He was a great musician. Every food item we ordered was top notch. I look forward to eating here again.
Absolutely amazing! I had been wanting to go here for a little while and we finally got an opportunity to head out and enjoy a meal with some friends. Service was astounding and we got a chance to taste some new pre-menue items that were fabulous.... and I was able to talk my wife into the 54 oz. dry-aged tomahawk steak platter. Our friends had the shrimp lingui & new york strip and it was all fantastic.
This place is one of a kind! There is nothing even close to this dining atmosphere anywhere around the valley. The food is exceptional, top notch, nothing but pure bliss in the mouth. The Brussels sprouts are incredible, definitely worth a try. Also they serve the best truffle fries! Steaks were cooked very nicely, maybe just a tad bit rare but still acceptable. Overall a 10/10 experience. The topping on the cake was the live music playing the whole night, perfect volume and very nice choice of songs. Wonderful place for celebrating or just a meaningful date night with a nice country drive as well.
Amazing restaurant! The food was phenomenal. The beef Wellington was absolutely amazing. Great drinks, amazing atmosphere. Live music on Saturday night when we went. The location is worth the extra drive, beautiful view.
Beautiful location in Sweet, and short drive from Emmett, Idaho. This is a great location for any occasion. They have Sunday brunch, lunch, and dinner. The food and drink options are plentiful, plus they are truly delicious. We enjoyed the fine dining menu when we visited - enjoyed an old fashioned and some amazing white wine with dinner. Started with roasted bone marrow and enjoyed entrees of lamb chops and veal scallopini. Once we finished dinner, we headed next door to cigar silo and enjoyed a whiskey drink and one of their choice cigars. Truly a classy place, and I definitely recommend visiting this restaurant in the future, if you haven't already.
Paul and his team have absolutely knocked it out of the park. If you want to come to a restaurant where you truly feel like family this is the place. Every single person from the moment the door is opened for you to walk in greets you and share a genuine feeling they are happy you are there. I was so impressed with the service we received from Clair and she did not miss a beat throughout our dinner service. Now the food was exceptional! It was hard to decide which to start with the food or service. We got the bone marrow and the steak tartare to start both were phenomenal but if you only could pick one I personally would have to go with the Tartare. Next we got the beef Wellington and a Filet. First you hardly ever see a beef Wellington on a menu but second it was so perfect cooked and the beef was exceptional. The Filet in short was easily a top steak in the PNW and cooked to perfection as well! Anderson Reserve is worth the trip from any nearby town or city because the food is high quality and cooked to perfection but you will rant and rave and continue to come back like I have because of the people and the atmosphere that is like no other in the region!
My wife and I had an absolutely unforgettable dining experience at Andersen Reserve, one that we’ll be sharing with friends for weeks! The warm ambiance and attentive staff welcomed us from the moment we arrived, setting the stage for a truly remarkable evening. The menu was a delightful blend of classic and creative offerings, but our entrees were the true highlights. My wife’s 8 oz filet was cooked to absolute perfection—tender, juicy, and bursting with flavor, each bite was pure heaven. I opted for the NY strip Oscar with crabmeat, and it was a culinary masterpiece. The steak was prepared exactly to my liking, with a flawless sear and rich, savory depth, elevated by the luxurious, succulent crabmeat. We had the pleasure of meeting one of the owners, Paul, who shared the restaurant’s inspiring story with genuine warmth. He told us that every steak cut at Andersen Reserve is personally handled by a family member, a testament to their commitment to quality and tradition. This personal touch made the meal even more special. For dessert, we shared the carrot cake, which was simply extraordinary—moist, perfectly spiced, and generously portioned, easily enough for two, with creamy frosting that was the perfect finish. The service was impeccable, with staff who were knowledgeable and passionate. Andersen Reserve delivered a dining experience that was refined, heartfelt, and unforgettable. We can’t wait to return to this gem!
I had such a wonderful meal here! Salmon, wild rice, and brussel sprouts. It was a wedding rehearsal dinner and they took such good care of us
Such an amazing experience. Paul the owner worked with me on the greatest surprise anniversary for my wife and I celebrating our 13th. Service was outstanding. Great scenic view. Great atmosphere. Thanks again to the owner and staff that helped out with this awesome experience. We will be returning!
The food was great, we had the place almost to our selfs although it started to get busy as we were finishing. The new Silo is gorgeous if u like whiskey and cigars. I can not wait to go back during warmer days and experience dining in the back patio with the amazing views!
Knowing ahead of time it was going to be a Sunday drive, Given the timing, I made a last minute reservation for their brunch and it was no problem. Arriving at Anderson Ranch around 12:35 PM after Sunday church, there was ample parking on a nicely manicured gravel lot with a WOWING backdrop 😍. I immediately felt the excitement of what it would look like inside! I pulled the beautiful grand door and was greeted warmly with a very nice tall and long hallway, as if I entered the Hogwarts school? The eyes torn between the beautifully decorated hall and the sight of yummy pastries as soon as one steps inside. My, my, my! Ushered upstairs to a corner seat on a simple glass table adorned with fresh flowers, one couldn't help the jaw-dropping beauty of Squaw Butte to gawk at across the horizon. The tall Christmas tree stood with the lights still on them, matched the shimmering lights of the garlands wrapped around the rail. But enough with the perfect setup; let's talk about the food! There were 3 courses for the pre-fixe brunch. I chose the lobster bisque instead of the beet/kale/candied pecans/goat-cheeae salad (although it would have been yummy also, I'm sure). The bisque was mildly thin but creamy and full of flavor. The lobster pieces were shredded nicely that one could hardly tell they were lobster except the delicious flavor gave it away. My steak was brought and as requested, perfectly done in medium rare. The nice pink meat was juicy and almost melted like butter in the mouth. The dish came with roasted potatoes, lightly seasoned and asparagus that were perfectly al dente. Of course I had to try the ham and eggs. The ham had a nice ring of smoke and is lightly fried; a little salty for me but I'm not used to salt. The finale was a nice serving of pineapple upside down cake that has been individually baked, so one gets the toasted sugar flavoring all the way around the cake, and surprisingly wasn't too sweet! Walking out, I was trying to read a plaque on the wall with the history of the place but I couldn't find my readers fast enough. I kept hearing "thank you" behind me and alas, it was the owner and his wife and family sitting at the table. What a nice gesture to thank your customers! Of course, I had to applaud them for creating such a beautiful place that raised their own farmed meat and garnered the rest either locally or their garden to put on the table. The service and the ambiance were all A+plus. Bottom line: spectacular winter mountain views in a special farm-to-table 5-star restaurant who had a great chef; all in a $$$-$$$$ fine dining. Will be returning to this place again and have already recommended them to many others.
What a beautiful place! Fantastic food and service! Worth the drive, we will be back soon!!!
Anderson’s was great! Family run by great people working hard to provide an enjoyable experience. The food was impeccable. Yes, some may think it is pricey but the amount of food you get is incredible. I have eaten and paid much more at high end steak houses around the country and they are easily in the top three. Service was top notch. Ritchie was our server and he was attentive, fun and easy on the eyes per my wife. Highly recommend Anderson’s Reserve. Thanks for the great time, food and momma’s yummy cinnamon rolls.
Great place to visit with beautiful location and scenic drive that is a bit out there.....BUT WORTH IT. Great staff Great food.... and if you want to enjoy a cigar totally separate to the restaurant, walk to the silo Bar and cigar lounge, which is part of Anderson reserve. Two thumbs up....really enjoyed it for my Dad's 80th Birthday.... oh and if your celebrating a birthday make sure you tell them...you will have an experience.
Dining at Anderson Reserve felt like time stopped from the beautiful drive, to the perfectly cooked food, and the serene setting. If you appreciate excellent food and are wanting an experience, this is it. We felt special from the moment a staff came out front to take our photo. I shared the New York Strip Oscar and sampled the lamb chops and short rib...you can't go wrong. Service was impeccable. Be sure to make your reservations well in advance. Note the seating upstairs may be a bit hard on old bones. We don't normally spend this much eating out but so worth it...more than any other steakhouse. Can't wait to try Sunday brunch!
I live in Colorado and anytime we come visit our daughter and son in law in Boise we make it a point to come up for dinner! I’ve had steaks in some of the best steakhouses in the US and Anderson Reserve is in my top 3! The Cigar Silo with their selection of cigars and great whiskey selection cannot be missed!
A perfect retreat for a special occasion, and very much worth the drive! My husband and I visited for our wedding anniversary and the experience was nothing short of perfect. After we were escorted to our reserved table, we were greeted with champagne! For an appetizer, we couldn't decide between the Crisp Halloumi and the Burrata Di Mozzarella. Our server's personal recommendation was the Crisp Halloumi. It was topped with a berry puree and balsamic reduction. IT WAS PHENOMENAL. Next time I plan to try the Burrata Di Mozzarella, but I'll probably have to order some of that amazing Crisp Halloumi too!! I had the New York Strip Oscar (topped with blue crab meat and bearnaise sauce), service with garlic mashed potatoes, asparagus, and baby carrots. The steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare and the addition of the crab meat brought it to a whole new level. My husband had the 24oz Cowboy Bone-in Ribeye, also cooked to a perfect medium rare and served with garlic mashed potatoes, broccolini, baby carrots, and a bourbon peppercorn sauce. Everything was cooked extremely well and very delicious. For dessert, we opted for the cheesecake! On the way out, we decided to purchase some of their house-made chorizo. When we cooked it with eggs for breakfast, it was delicious! I do feel it was slightly under-seasoned, but the meat quality is superb.
We sat on the back patio on a beautiful Saturday for lunch. The food was delicious. We all ordered the hamburger and fries. For dessert we had cookies they were homemade and very yummy. The landscaping in the back is beautiful and so peaceful. We even got to see a helicopter land for lunch! The service was great, the establishment was clean and all the staff were very friendly.
My family of four (including a 12 +13 year old) got dressed up and were looking for a nice place to go on a Saturday night! I looked up events near me on FB and revealed Anderson Reserve had live music, dance floor, and all ages welcome so we headed to Sweet! We were greeted by a charming lady as we walked in and even though we didn’t have reservations we were sat at a nice table within minutes. They offer upper and lower dining as well as patio seasonally. We were expecting more of a honky tonk scene but were delighted to share with the kids such a great experience in an upscale place. We ordered salads that were offered with a choice of protein-we ordered one steak and one chicken. The lettuce was crisp and chilled and dressing were house made and delicious. The warm dinner rolls won over the kids right off! Joseph, our server was confident and knowledgeable of menu items and combination’s. He made us feel welcome and at home and asked personal questions to gain a relationships with us which we LOVE in fine dinning. Joseph as well as 2 other employees check on us through the meal for order accuracy, drink refills, and other offers of service. We wouldn’t pay $50 a plate for FOOD.....BUT to be greeted by the owners, serenaded with live music, spend quality time as a family, never have our drinks go dry AND have staff that goes above and beyond to make a dinner SPECIAL is worth so much more than a price tag. We left with a warm wonderful feeling and can’t wait to go back! These employees and owners glow with pride on their service, impressive menu, and rustic atmosphere. Suggestions: I did not have a hook for my bag and had to hang it from my chair which was uncomfortable for me. Men wearing hats have no place to remove them at a dining table? Multiple men at other tables wore their hats while eating which in our western culture is a sign of disrespect which my husband mentioned prior to our meal- he didn’t want me reprimanding him for keeping it on when he had no place else to put it but on his head!
We finally got out for a nice dinner and we celebrated my birthday. I have heard great things about this restaurant, but everytime I thought we could check it out, we couldn't make it work. I am so glad that this time we were able to. This was one of the greatest nights and highlights of 2020. Location: First, it is located a little out of town, but well worth the drive. The restaurant and grounds were beautifully lit. The parking lot is dirt/gravel Ambiance: Upon entering, you realize this is not your typical fine dining steakhouse. The servers are wearing flannel and the crowd is mixed between nice clothes and boots and hats. There are beautiful lights with a country feel while being elegant. It was a great mix. Service: We were greeted fairly quickly and checked our reservation for 2. A table upstairs was getting cleared for us. The sight wait gave us time to talk and admire the environment. While we were waiting, we chatted with the owner for a while. He was super friendly and funny. Once to our table we we're given water and menus. Our server was very knowledgeable with the wine menu(only beer and wine) and the food menu. She gave great suggestions for both! The water was always kept full and the place was perfect. Not too slow, but you never felt rushed. Food: The food was amazing. We started with an appetizer, then salad, main dish, and dessert The filet was cooked perfectly rare. The sides were fabulous and the dessert was creamy cheesecake. Final thoughts: We had great discussions with the owners and our servers throughout the evening. You really feel like family when there. I didn't want to leave and can't wait to return. If you get drinks an appetizer and main dish expect to pay around $100 per person. This is a fantastic experience, and fantastic food.
As unique a place as you can imagine and what a beautiful setting and facility. The food was fantastic - they butcher and dry age all of their meats! We celebrated our anniversary and had a wonderful time. We were fortunate enough to meet the owners and compliment them on their great place and divine food. This may be off the beaten track but we’ll worth the effort.
Anderson Reserve is one of my favorite places to go to for a fine meal.. outstanding service in a beautiful setting. Update....After several years of going to Anderson Reserve, it remains my favorite place. Great location to go to for an afternoon utv ride down Johnson creek trail. The staff are friends after one visit. The chefs have changed a few times but the outstanding quality of the meals remains the same. The back patio has been enlarged and is completely covered now. The new cigar bar is going to be amazing.. Take a nice drive and have a great meal with great people.
This restaurant is by far the best we have been to in Idaho. Not only is the food and the drinks impeccable but the folks that own and run this are fantastic. Not only will we be back but we will frequent. As soon as you walk through the door, you feel like you are home. Absolutely the BEST we’ve had!
Quite a drive (over an hour from Nampa) but worth it. Our 21st anniversary. Property and restaurant are beautiful. Everyone there were very kind and helpful. Great service and atmosphere. Split the 16oz bone in New York Oscar steak with my wife. Cooked to perfection! One of the most flavorful steaks I have ever had. Bernaise sauce and crab were fairly bountiful and excellent flavor. Complimentary champagne for our anniversary was a nice surprise. Appetizer and dessert was good. Definitely a little pricey. Even splitting an entre, salad, appetizer, and dessert added up pretty quickly. Definitely would recommend a trip out there for a special occasion!
Have had friends tell us that we need to check this place out and it did not disappoint! Went with close friends for the Sunday brunch and the food, drink and atmosphere was top notch! Will absolutely go back for another experience. 👍
This has become my favorite! I loved the atmosphere, the staff and service was outstanding and the food was phenomenal, presentation included! Great little drive, nice atmosphere and 100% recommend! We will definitely be back!
Just a fantastic building, grounds and wonderful family owned eatery. Wife and I went for the brunch, thats a tasty and filling 3 course brunch mind you. I grew up hunting the area, but dont get around Sweet/Ola area much anymore. Really enjoyed the whole feeling and vibe of the place and sort of going back in time for me. Fantastic people running a fantastic restaurant. Quality ingredients only. Love it A+ Looking forward to the next time already. Word is they are building a seperate bourbon/scotch/cigar store/tasting room? Next door. Look forward to it.
Amazing gem. Food, service and location are perfect always a good time. Fantastic whiskey selection
We pretty much loved the entire experience, with one small complaint. I'll start with the complaint first- we ordered two cups of black coffee with dessert, pretty sure it was Foldgers. I think a place like this could have had a better after dinner coffee. That's the worst it got for us! Everything was cooked to perfection, service was on point, great cocktail and whiskey menu, several desert choices. I don't even like Brussel Sprouts, but my side of bacon, parmesan brussel sprouts was divine. Made me kinda like them lol. We will be back for sure!
Wonderful environment and amazing food. The live music was high quality. Steaks and appetizers were incredible. The deserts are not as impressive since they are not locally made but they are still good. Would definitely recommend this for high end dining.
Stunning views and awesome atmosphere!!! Worth every minute of the drive. Great food! GET THE LOBSTER BISQUE!! ♥️
My husband and I drove up from Eagle to Sweet on a bit of a whim to try something new. So.Glad.We.Did! From the Idaho elegance of rustic charm with jeans and a button down being completely acceptable, to the amazing food and incredible service (shout out to the amazing Hannah) we couldn’t have been more delighted. Prices are high - that’s what you pay for great food, prepared right, presented beautifully and enjoyed by all. The charcuterie board had some of the best cheeses and meats we’ve ever been served, and don’t even get me started on the huckleberry pepper jam! Amazing! My husband ordered the lamb chops and stated they were the best he’s ever had. I had the wedge salad with steak added. Definitely one of the best wedge salads I’ve had, and the steak was so flavorful I didn’t even add salt or pepper. The lemon smash cake topped the meal and was flavorful, moist and absolutely perfect.
Went out for my birthday dinner tonight and had a great time. The live music and atmosphere was absolutely lovely. Ivy was absolutely a doll and made our experience great. Update: Went back tonight and service was excellent. Drinks and dessert and my husband's shellfish pasta were excellent. Unfortunately my steak was more on the medium/well and less on the medium rare that I asked for. But it still had good flavor and the server asked if I wanted it redone, but I didn't want to wait and it was still good.
We were welcomed with warm greetings and given a tour of the fabulous interior and what they had to offer. Then outside onto the Beautiful patio and onto the grainery for an amazing experience of selecting libations from a huge inventory. Their humidor didn't disappoint as well. The grounds and views are spectacular and the deer visiting at dusk was a treat. The Food and service impeccable. Thank you Jim for your on spot recommendations and stellar service. Highly recommend a visit to this off the beat gem😊
My mom and I visited Anderson Reserve for the first time today. We were greeted with smiling faces as soon as we walked though the door. The atmosphere is warm and inviting. The service was a 10/10! Jessie Perkins and Griffin J made us feel welcome, they were also very kind, and their recommendations were phenomenal. We highly recommend the David Bruce chardonnay, the Frisk Prickly Riesling, KaValan "Sherry oak" asian whiskey, the Sweet Jane cigars, and the glazed Brussel sprouts! We will absolutely come back in the near future.
First timers. Got there early to have cigars, cocktails and an appetizer at the Silo. Did not disappoint, kudos to bartender Danen! Dinner was fun and server Tiffany was outstanding! The downside was the uneven results on the food. The mashed potatoes were hard and bland, not served hot. The creamed spinach was lacking spinach and is also the topping in the veal scallopini. The veal was also overcooked. My filet could have been served hotter. My lobster was wonderful. Our friends had the lamb and it was by their accounts quite yummy. The chocolate cake was amazing. We will be coming back again and again as it is a great overall experience! Oh and their birthday tradition is quite hilarious!
Very special place! Absolutely a stunner of an establishment in Sweet Idaho. Prime grade and dry aged meats, wonderful apps, fabulous desserts. We enjoyed our visit here so much. My only critique (the reason for 4 stars) would be that the sweet lady that served us was not really up to speed on the menu and pricing, not readily available, and didn’t have a service level of the establishment and price point. For a meal with this price tag I would hope for first class service. Would definitely recommend you visit though! We drove up for an evening and it was dark…. We cannot wait to try a brunch and enjoy the scenic drive!
We had a great experience at Anderson Reserve. Just a short beautiful drive from Boise/Meridian area. The owners are very sweet and we felt very welcomed. We felt like family as soon as we stepped through the doors. The ambience of the resteraunt and decor was perfect. The scenery around the place and the rolling hills was quite the site. The servers were very busy, but they still made sure our table was taken care of. Had the ribeye and it was very good! Great flavor and nice and tender. Loved the mash potatoes as well. Sea bass and the filet mignon was a hit as well. A bit spendy, but the experience and food makes it worth the drive and the tab. As we left, the owners gave all of us home baked cookies for free. Thanks for the great evening.
What a wonderful treat to find in Sweet! The short ribs and romanesco were divine and the setting sublime! Well worth the drive from Boise to experience this unique steakhouse. The surf and turf was delicious, though my husband didn't care for the cinnamon in this dish, a heads up in the menu might be helpful. Waitstaff could be more knowledgeable about the menu.
Great ambience, fantastic view, rich, hearty food. We share severally appetizers and an entree. Beautiful building in a secluded area and 30-40 minutes from Eagle. Worth the drive, stay a while and enjoy the view!! Our menu choices- -Charcuterie Board was filled with cheeses and meats and garnish with accoutrements. Two of the cheeses were truffle in flavor, but not sure exactly what type of cheeses, other than creamy and delicious. Also had blue cheese and a creamy, salty parmigiana cheese. -Prosciutto wrapped dates were plump and tasty. -Finger Steaks were light and crispy, not my favorite to pair with out other options we had. -Bone Marrow appetizer was my husband’s favorite, he described it as “meat butter” -Short Ribbed was accidentally delivered to us but we were told to kelp it, so we got to try it as well. It was rich and hearty with a zingy bbq sauce over it. Tender and fell off the bone. -Prime Rib was our entree. Medium-Rare and tender. We tried both sauces offered. The Au jus was my favorite, so much flavor in a little dip! The blue cheese horseradish sauce was also good and added a little pop of flavor to the prime rib. The owner and servers were all walking around, clearing tables, topping of drinks, and checking in on each table. That kind of service is how small issues were corrected so quickly. The only reason I gave 4 versus 5 stars was that we had a view issues with our server. He was kind and tried, but seemed uninformed of items that the kitchen was out of and did not tell us until our food was delivered. When we asked questions about our charcuterie board, he couldn’t answer them. He put in our entree as the wrong item. This particular server just needs a little more training but he seemed to try and smiled through our little issues. Although things were corrected, this was the only reason I gave it 4 stars.
Snow job. The staff really did a good job selling the place when we stopped in to use the restroom, so we reservations on the one of just two days they serve prime rib. Server was nice enough, though any deviation from the skit was met with a lot of 'no'. Very few options of wine by the glass. Prime rib was tasty but very tough, not seared on the sides, and not as thick as advertised. Bread rolls and 'butter' was an extra charge but was not explained as such up front. Absolutely beautiful place though.
Arriving to the restaurant is a beautiful experience, the building and surroundings play off each other very well. The interior ambiance is also very nice and brings that rural farmhouse feeling. The tables upstairs are all high stools around a barrel with a glass tabletop. This setup is very uncomfortable because the stools are too high for the table. I had to slouch over to eat. See the photo of my hand on my knee compared to the height of the table. The drinks we ordered were very weak. I ordered a double Tito's and soda and could hardly taste the vodka. My wife ordered a specialty cocktail and hers was also very weak. The wedge salad was pretty average. They use Ranch dressing instead of bleu cheese, and for the price, it is very small. The dry-aged NY steak I ordered was made as requested, medium-rare. However, the vegetables and potatoes that accompanied my steak were cold. The plate presentation was nice. My wife ordered the Cajun Shrimp which were average. We both couldn't taste any blackened seasoning and the quinoa was a little bland. Overall, the atmosphere is nice but the rest leaves more to be desired.
The restaurant is adorable. Love the building and town of sweet. Owners are really welcoming when you arrive. Unfortunately we had bad service. We only saw him a few times. The flies were awful . So many flies that we spent our dinner just swinging at flies. I went to bathroom and you see right into kitchen and the potatoes were mashed in circles on a tray on bottom shelf next to the floor and bathroom. I had just eaten some of those. My Husband steak had a tangy strange taste to it. He spit it out into a napkin. My t bone was ok but definitely not tender. We took our parents and raved how good it was going to be so a bit disappointed. Just lower your expectations a bit and bring a fly swatter. Beautiful scenery.
Dinner at Anderson Reserve was a mixed experience. The atmosphere is undeniably lovely, and the gentleman singing added a wonderful touch to the evening. Unfortunately, the service did not meet expectations for a venue at this level. With a $70 minimum per plate, the meal itself was just okay at best. We were a party of nine, and one steak had to be sent back and forth, which only added to the disappointment. I can honestly say I’ve had better meals for much less. This was our third visit, and each time I’ve hoped it would improve, but sadly it hasn’t. That said, the highlight of the night was the cigar silo. The ambiance there was excellent, the cocktails were fantastic, and the bartender was truly top notch. If anything brings me back, it would be that part of the experience.
My boyfriend took me here for my birthday and our first outing alone since having our baby girl- so it was very anticipated, his parents flew in to watch our baby girl while we went on our dinner date. I’d like to start by saying the owners mother was working as the hostess and made our experience worth every second. Our server on the other hand was a nightmare. We got there, we were greeted by the host and seated. 45 minutes went by- no one had gotten us water, introduced themselves, taken an order; nothing. Several wait staff just walked past several times. Finally, my boyfriend kindly asked a passing staff member if she could put in a drink order for us because we hadn’t seen our waitress yet… she said, “oh, I’m not your waitress but I’ll put it in” didn’t say she would figure out what was going on, or anything.. 20 more minutes pass and we see the same waitress several more times tending to the 2 large parties seated by us. Then we see the hostess, my boyfriend tells her we are going to head out because we had waited an hour and had plans after, we kindly explained to her the situation, and thanked her, but wanted to head out so we could still try and enjoy our dwindling night. She told us that she was the co owner and insisted we didn’t leave, that she wanted our night to be special and offered to comp our whole dinner! We refused, but she insisted. She figured out who our waitress was (the lady that kept walking past us and insisting she wasn’t our waitress) after another 5-10 minutes she comes walking to our table, “can I get you guys started with soup or salad” not a I’m sorry for the confusion, or hi my name is (which we actually never were told her name) I told her no, we put our meal order in, and fiveish minutes later she comes and sets Brussels sprouts on the table and says she brought them out so we wouldn’t be waiting too long for food because there are two big parties ahead of us- it came off as she was trying to insinuate that they were busy and had a lot of people and we were being rude and trying to make them hurry up and have our food out within minutes (we had been there an hour before even knowing who our waitress was) so, I told her we weren’t trying to rush them or get free food, but we were never greeted by our waitress so we didn’t know what was going on, as it’s our first time here, normally even if you go to Applebees you’re greeted by your waitress and brought water within minutes of sitting down, if you’re spending at least 200$ you’d expect at least that. She brushed me off and scurried away. She brought our food and those were the only times we saw her until our check. The couple next to us got there and were there for about 20 minutes and we watched them ask the same waitress who their server was, and we heard her tell them the same thing she told us, “she didn’t know” then they waited longer and asked another server and low and behold guess who their server was?! Then she comes with our check and tells us she comped our Brussels sprouts for the wait (the ones we didn’t order) and to have a great night. My boyfriend told her the co owner told us our meal was comped and to please double check with her. She did. She comes back and tells us she said it was comped but that she isn’t the co owner she’s the owners mom?! Idk why that was important.. she then tells us that she tried to bring our receipt but she wouldn’t allow her, but that it was really expensive… I was taken back, like lady, no one came here to get free food banking on your terrible customer service. We would have gladly left. Needless to say we went down and thanked the kind woman and asked to tip her our meal price but she refused and said she wanted our night to be perfect! The food was amazing, the atmosphere and ambiance was angelic, but that woman truly made our night special. I hope they teach the waitress woman how to do her job because unfortunately that’s the face people are going to relate their business to. She clearly was focusing on the bigger parties to get her tips, but that’s not how it should be.
On 1/18/20, KM and I visited Anderson Reserve for dinner. We started with an appetizer of Rocky Mountain Oysters with a Dill dipping sauce ($16). My maternal grandmother came from ranch and family, so this was not my first experience eating this dish. Are the presentation was beautiful, I found this version bland and dependent upon the dipping sauce for flavor. KM ordered USDA Dry Aged Prime Rib, slow roasted and served with Au Jus and Horseradish Crema ($50). I ordered the USDA Prime Grade Fillet, pan seared and topped with Candied Bacon Wrapped Jumbo Prawns and finished with Smoked Tomato Butter ($45). Both entrées came with Twice Baked Potatoes and Sautéed Seasonal Vegetables. In addition, we both ordered a Garden Salad ($7) with Blue Cheese Gorgonzola dressing. Our meals were beautifully plated and topped with micro-greens. Unfortunately, the emphasis on plating over function made it difficult for KM to cut her steak. She enjoyed her prime rib, but it was not the best she’s ever had, though it is certainly was the most she’s ever paid for one. KM’s steak was not as tender as it should have been, given she paid a premium for dry-aged meat. I later learned Anderson Reserve dry ages their beef for 3 days, which is not dry aging. I enjoyed my steak. Neither of us cared for our twice baked potatoes, which were dry. We were liked the sautéed seasonal vegetables, which were very flavorful. We wanted to order dessert but decided to skip it after learning it was not made in house, and our server was unable to tell us the source. Anderson Reserve does not meet ADA guidelines. The only way to access the second level is up a narrow set of stairs. If you have mobility issues, I recommend you reserve a table on the ground level. While we both had an enjoyable evening and enjoyed our meals, we felt they were overpriced.
Service and atmosphere was good. Ordered two of the 16oz NY strips. Quite gristley. No real depth in its flavor, as a meat. Seasoning/butter was too light. Unfortunately a chewy, under seasoned steak for $74 each
