Bleu Monkey Cafe Syracuse Reviews
oh. my. goodness!! this place truly blew me away - the food was amazing (and even that’s an understatement!) the food came out super quickly. by far the best sushi i’ve ever had in the local area!
Went here so often while at Syracuse, I always ordered the vegetarian options and they’re so good!! 💜
Best sushi in the ‘cuse! At least that’s what we think👍 food is excellent! Delivered quickly and very fresh with good portions. Not super fancy inside, and it’s on Marshall street on the hill so it’s tough to park and busy at times. Everyone working there was super friendly and efficient.
I have been coming here since I was in middle school and the food is great. You can’t really go wrong with any of the options and there’s a decent variety. I’ve only had one bad service experience and it was over a year ago so I won’t bother writing about it as I haven’t seen that person there since. It was cozier before they did renovations though, it’s pretty bright now and it doesn’t feel as intimate, which is unfortunate because the tables are already close together. I still love this place though and will continue to come back.
The food was spectacular and service was great. We ordered the noodle bowls 1- chicken, rice noodle shrimp, miso and poached egg. 2-pork belly, ramen, tonkotso, poached egg and beef. They were fantastic and came out super fast after we ordered. I recommend adding the spicy chili oil on the table to the bowls if you like spice. We also ordered the crabby shrimp and godzilla rolls. The rolls were equally delicious. I highly recommend dining here. 10/10
On a Friday night(6pm) we grabbed a table for two right away. Our server was Sam, he was good and very conscientious. We were offered the happy hour(5-7pm) special for food and drinks. The appetizer and soups came quick and were delicious. The main course was worth the wait. The rolls had eight pieces and tasted fresh. There is an open kitchen and everything seems to be very orderly. The place was filled with mostly college students as it is in the university area. We enjoyed ourselves in all.
Able to enjoy from sushi, cali rolls to ramen. I got the lizard roll. Fresh and delicious with salmen, shrimp tenpura, and avocado. Overall satisfying. During the conversation with my party, the server took my plate (a little bit embarrassed). After the dinner time, it ironically took a bit time to get my check though :)
Decent food sand service. Nice ambience, but acoustics can make it a bit hard to hear your conversation. Bento box was pretty good, but wish the chicken katsu sauce had a bit more flavour. Other parts of meal was very good. Also had the ramen with tonkatsu broth, which exceeded my expectations. No big disappointments here, will go again.
Sushi was very good, they do a great job of presentation here. For a appetizer I had the shrimp dumpling soup, it was pretty solid. Pictured is the crabby shrimp roll and the wolf roll, both were great. My only complaint is that I was charged for a fountain soda refill. I don’t love it when restaurants charge for refills but I at least want to be made aware of it.
Not understanding the hype... food is decent but the service is below par! Never came back to refill drinks until we were done lol, establishment was empty other than us and another couple so the busy excuse is out the window.
I'm really disappointed to see the direction that Bleu Monkey is going, as I used to consider this place one of the nicest sit-down restaurants on Marshall St. The food is fine if you're looking for sushi, and they have some wonderful unique rolls, but their menu no longer meets the expectations of a traditional sushi restaurant and the layout is closer to cafeteria style self-service. Personally, I was really disappointed that even though we ate there, everything was on trays in disposable plastic containers, and prepared orders were called out every few minutes. It works if you want something quick, but for the price there are better options around.
I was eating dinner on 02/05/26 and I saw a waiter start yelling at one of the take out customers. The guy employee was telling them they made a mistake repeatedly when he didn’t need to be this rude to them. The food was great, but after seeing the waiter treat others, I wanted to leave this review.
I placed my order on February 5th, 2026 at 5:58 PM. I called in and clearly asked for the Gahum Roll, but the employee took it as a salmon hakamoku roll instead. I acknowledge that I may have misunderstood when the order was repeated, and I immediately apologized for the confusion. However, the employee (a skinny male with glasses) became extremely rude and aggressive, repeatedly saying, “I told you the order and you heard it wrong,” in a confrontational tone. His behavior made me very uncomfortable, to the point where I felt intimidated. Even after I apologized, he continued to grill me rather than calmly resolving the issue. I eventually received my order, but when I asked the manager for his name so I could report the incident properly, the manager refused and told me to leave. I did my best to remain polite throughout the situation, but the way I was treated was unacceptable and unprofessional. If anyone knows the employee’s name, please let me know, as I would like to escalate this to management.
Food is typically pretty good but they close any time SU is out for break. How can they be closed on a Friday evening in June? We wanted to order dinner here and forgot that they only cater to the college students, and not anyone else that lives in this area. I ran into this same issue over winter break when it was closed for multiple weeks in December and January. Seems like there could be a better business model with having less staff or a restricted menu compared to closing down the whole establishment.
Used to order from here frequently just over a year ago. Was absolutely fantastic before they shut down during this last summer break. When they opened back up we’ve tried it a couple times and neither were anything I would ever recommend. This last time is one I would never wish on anyone. Wife bit into Chicken Katsu just to realize it was raw on the inside. Most expensive possible salmonella exposure you can find in Syracuse if that’s what floats your boat.
Was a to-go order of the Chicken teriyaki over rice with steamed broccoli! The meal was very unbalanced. A whole container bowl full of rice with chicken on top and ONLY 3 PIECES of broccoli. Which from me reading the menu online it didn’t specify it to be a “small side of broccoli” so I thought it would be a decent amount to balance the meal! The broccoli was tasteless and the teriyaki sauce/chicken did not taste authentic at all. It taste like something I tried to remake. I called to inform and see what can be done the manager let me know that’s the usual amount and I told her that’s ridiculous. Who would want an order full of rice with little to no veggies!! Overall the Sushi was great! Would only be ordering sushi in the future.
