Thai Kitchen Tahoe City Reviews
We came here because our host recommended this restaurant to us. We didn't expect much but it was a very good experience in there. Not very expensive, plates are tasty and in good quantity. The server was very friendly but just a little bit stressed. There wasn't many staff present at this time. Hope I could come again
We get take out from here about once a week. Curry is wonderful and I almost always get Pad Thai and prawn rolls. When we come in for meals there are great soups and appetizers to try. The outside looks a bit ominous, but like all good Thai places it's not about the decorations it's about the food. One of the most reliable places in Tahoe City for takeout (they are always open).
I purchased 1 chicken pad Thai and two mango sticky rices here in July 2020 and the food was great! There was a generous portion of chicken pad Thai as shown in the photo I've attached. The mango sticky rices were both also very good, so good that I couldn't manage to take a photo before they were gone. The total price for these three items was $28.80 not including tip.
Great food and service! We always do takeout and it’s very fresh when we pick it up. Would recommend!
Customer service at this restaurant was outstanding - very polite and attentive .We ordered spring rolls, Panang beef curry, vegetable fried rice, and chicken satay. All dishes were very tasty, vegetables not overcooked, and meat was tender.
This restaurant does not deserve 3.7 stars. The service was very good and the workers helped us find the spice levels for us.The atmosphere was great, there was a lot of wood paneling making it feel like a nice cabin, there was also lights hung all around the restraunt. And the food was amazing, I got the beef pad Thai with spice level 2 so it had a perfect spic to sweet, it was the best Thai food I've had and easily makes my top 10 favorite foods. My family also said they really like the red curry and the drunken noodle If you like Thai then don't wait accelerate 5 stars
Good Thai food. Not bland. Authentic flavors present in the curry. All around good stuff.
Food was delicious and service was very good! Friendly and attentive staff.
Food was so delicious! I was skeptical at fist after reading some reviews but those reviews are way off. My daughter and I had Drunken Noodles and the flavor was so good. My son ordered Pad Thai and was super happy with his order. My husband who eats the most Thai food ordered Red Curry- Thai Hot, said it was really good and actually HOT! Our waiter was very nice and the atmosphere was casual and comfortable. I saw lots of people coming for their take out orders.
Excellent Thai food, everyone in our party was very happy with their meal. We had several dishes including satay, pad Thai, curries, and drunken noodles. Portions were very good, excellent sauces, and friendly staff, looking forward to coming back!
The food that we ordered was great! We don't agree with the rating that it had.
The food is delicious and the restaurant has a great view! We recommend the Pad Thai and the Yellow Curry.
I gave this a 5 stars to boost its overall rating. We live in NYC and have had realllyyy good Thai, so were worried this place wouldn’t be good with the 3.7 but took the risk. It’s pretty solid for Tahoe food and Thai food. It probably depends on what you order. The coconut soup was tasty as was the crispy duck, green curry and mango sticky rice, all very good. And the fresh spring rolls were fresh! It satisfied our Thai craving. The drunken noodles were okay - less flavorful and not big fat Thai noodles (more like thick fettuccine noodles) but good enough, especially with everything else. We are glad we came here and would come back again. If it was in NYC would it stand out? Probably not, but it’s a decent Thai spot especially for a town that doesn’t have a ton of food options. Also server was very nice!
Great food, we ordered the pad see yew, the curry fried rice, and the red curry — all vegetarian. Very flavorful and full of vegetables. Great service, took extremely good care of us. Ambiance is nice, situated on a small hill so nice views.
This place was suggested by our son. I didn't know this restaurant was here. It is tucked on the hill, across from the Tahoe City Safeway store. Signage is obscured by landscaping. We shared plates of soup, appetizers, and entrees. Food was good, hot, and filling. Service was quick, although the restaurant wasn't particularly busy during our early dinner visit. They appeared to have a brisk take-away business.
Great place to eat in Tahoe City and family owned. No reason it is such a low star rating as this place is fantastic. It is one of the only restaurants I go to eat at regularly since I was born and raised here. The Tom Kha soup is amazing!
That Kitchen never disappoints! The food is consistently amazing—full of flavor and made with care. What really makes the place special is the staff: friendly, professional, and always smiling. It’s the kind of place that makes you feel welcome every time you walk in.
One of the most surprising dining experiences I’ve had. Soulful cooking, with dishes made by people who have clearly been perfecting their craft for many years. The food tastes like history and cultural heritage. 10/10, easily one of the best Thai meals I’ve ever had. The pad thai is outstanding. The tofu (which I honestly don’t even like) was exceptional. Without a doubt one of, if not the best restaurant in Tahoe.
Yeah, we love this place. Our server was Phoenix. He’s always polite an courteous. She had the pumpkin curry vegetarian I had the spicy pork basil yeah appetizers were mussels and chicken potstickers. If you haven’t tried the Thai place in Tahoe city, you need to try it. And we both drink Thai ice tea.
Good Asian Thai place for meals when visiting the Tahoe city. We ordered the Pad Pik Deng (saute with spicy chili paste) with beef and yellow curry with chicken. Both were fine and good value, enough to satisfy an Asian stomach during a trip. Rice needs to be ordered separately for $3 each.
Authentic THAI restaurant with good portion and affordable prices. Long wait but worth it! Pro Tip: order around 5 p.m. for weekend dinner because this place is very popular and busy. Their PHONE line gets very busy. We had to go in to order because the phone line couldn't get through. Chefs are from Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Phuket I got Medium spicy level and it was quite spicy for me. We got four dishes for two people and there were plenty of leftovers. All dishes I got I would highly recommend. Tom Yum Crispy Duck Thai Kitchen Fried Rice Pad Ka Tiem (Garlic Lover)

Great menu option Family owned and operated Gluten free options
Food was super flavorful and the right level of spice! Loved the crinkle cut carrots. Chicken pad kee mao was amazing. Some of the best vegetarian Thai my parents have had in a while. We gave this place a shot after reading the good recent reviews and it deserves a much better rating than it has on Google right now!
I come here most every time I come to Tahoe. The food is not only the best Thai food in Tahoe but among the best I've had. Pro tip: get the fried banana with ice cream

Typical Thai restaurant. Best in North Shore. There are better in Truckee. Great people here.
Food quality was good with food served hot and tasted good but not outstanding compared to other Thai restaurants I have tried outside the Lake Tahoe area. Was conveniently located in downtown Tahoe City and prices as expected for area but with large portions. Service by same waiter on 2 nights was good and he made you feel he and the restaurant appreciated your business.
Solid Thai restaurant.... The food was not bland as many reviews staged. We had a pretty basic order - spring rolls, pad Thai, and green curry. All were about on par with nearly every other casual Thai restaurant I've been to. Would definitely recommend as prices were way more reasonable than other local places, and there was no wait!
The food was really flavorful and enjoyable. The reason for the 4 stars is the portion size, it was a very small plate for the price of a full entrée. Portion sizes should be reviewed. Other than that, everything was good!
We went here for a late lunch visiting lake Tahoe a couple of days ago (autumn) where less ppl goes to the area, the area was elevated which gives a good ambiance and u see cars passing..the service was very good, the manager he's talkative & sociable, the foods depends on your taste buds they adjust accdg to the level of spicyness u can take (which is good!!!). we ordered pad Thai, pineapple chicken, calamari, tomyum, chicken stuff & green curry, to all those I liked was the green curry it was delicious!!! pad Thai is ok and the chicken pineapple as well.. if u love Asian food u can find it in north lake Tahoe and if u like curry they have good one :)
Opens during thanksgiving night, and delicious food for after-ski food-hunters. The stuffed chicken thigh (one appetizer dish) is stuffed with pork, vermicelli and carrots, and is tasty.
It was my first time I ate Thai cuisine nd really liked the taste. Soooo good 😊. I tried stir fried veggies with silver noodles, the noodles was like transparent. Taste was 👍.
I think the rating is actually about right. I was there for lunch on February 8th. I got one dish--Pad Bai Ka Pow (sweet basil) with chicken, and it was lacking flavor. I asked for 7/10 for spiciness, but it was still fairly mild. That being said, it was healthy--didn't taste overly oily nor was there a ton of sugar, so that's definitely a positive. There was plenty of ground chicken breast (I asked for ground chicken and they were very kind to oblige), zucchini, carrots, and onions. But I definitely didn't get much basil flavor. They were flexible in accommodating my ask for ground chicken and looked after me (I was the only diner in the restaurant). It was a pleasant experience, but the food was a bit disappointing.

Super friendly waiter and very informative. I learned that true Thai hotness is rated differently, and the higher hotness levels are usually not offered because of the time it takes to make them. Great food and fast service.

The food is undoubtedly good, however the service was incredulously slow, and we ended up waiting for over an hour for our food. Since we were a group of 8, the gratuity was fixed to our bill, which might explain why we were neglected for so long. Side orders were casually ignored until asked for, and mains were brought half an hour apart. Proceed with caution. If you like good food and don't mind waiting for egregious amounts of time, go for it!
Went here after a day trip in tahoe The food was okay , the service was pretty slow, and they didn't ever refill our waters. But, after a long day of skiing if you want thai food, this is a convenient place to go and it's quite filling! curry size was quiet small compared to the others, so if you're hungry be sure to go with soup or noodles! we've been here before and i'm sure we'll be back as we like thai food, but yeah nothing amazing but not terrible either!
The Tom yum soup was really good. There are a lot of vegetarian options here. Unfortunately there were a few flies flying around the restaurant and the table was sticky. To fix this, I’d recommend keeping the doors closed as they were open, and wiping down the tables routinely. Also, the rice doesn’t come with the food. Rice is expected to be served with the dishes like curries and vegetable dishes, but we had to buy it as a side dish. On the positive side, the food is pretty good and sauce is on point. The pad thai was a bit watery though. Overall, impressed with the selection of vegetarian options.

Ordered a noodle dish with seafood combo and a Thai basil eggplant with shrimp dish. The noodle dish was not good, no flavor and the seafood was fresh out of the deep freeze... terrible. The eggplant dish was very good except for the tough dry shrimp. Service was very good.

Meh. We really like Thai food. This was just a bit off. The larb came with cilantro and not mint. The green curry was watery. The pad thai was decent... but overly sweet. No other Asian options in Tahoe City but below average Thai food

The food is okay but the service is bad. I placed an order here about 40 minutes before their posted closing time and the guy taking the order was flat out rude. It was a $150 to go order and the way he was acting, you would have thought I had insulted his mother or something. Very uncalled for and out of nowhere. It still makes me scratch my head trying to figure it out. Beyond that, we waited at a table inside for the food to be prepared and we were being eaten alive by mosquitoes! Just would not stop. I wouldn't eat here again.
I got chicken pad Thai and mango with sticky rice. The chicken was white meat, dry and tough. Never seen a Thai restaurant use white meat before, and there’s a reason for that. I don’t think they cooked the pad Thai, it seems to have been cooked chicken, cooked noodles, some really old tofu, combined with sauce but not cooked. It is not edible. The mango is rotten! Sticky rice is old, tough. Again not cooked together, just microwaved and combined in the styrofoam container. Service was fine.
Summary: Very bad service AND food. Flies are not uncommon in the restaurant. Choose somewhere else in Tahoe City, literally, anywhere else. Food: The beef was super dry and stiff, impossible to chew on. Found a steel ball’s residue in the soup (see in picture). The beef was not fresh at all. Service: after telling the service guy that the beef was dry and hard to chew on, he immediately said “it is supposed to be like this”, no investigation, no apologies, no replacement or anything; after telling another server that the hazard steel ball residue was found in the soup, no apologies, simply asked if we still want it or just cancel this dish. No “sorry” came from her mouth. Environment: we saw a big wasp at the table, and several flies around.
I eat Thai food regularly- it’s one of my favorite foods- and I’ve never, I mean never, had Thai food that was bland. This place sunk below the limitations of what I thought Thai food could taste like. The dining area itself felt like a back alley joint you’d eat at 1 am hammered so all the nasty details slip by unnoticed. Sticky tables, flies all over the eating area, and a dirt ridden floor. I would not recommend this to anyone. There are much better places to eat in Tahoe city. Fingers crossed my stomach doesn’t turn into a nuclear battleground tonight.
My wife saw a bug 🐛 in my food before I almost eat it, and when I asked the waiter (owner?), he said this "happens with fresh vegetables", and looked very un-apologetic. When I paid the bill (full price), he then doubled down on it not being a bug. I normally don't post negative reviews like this, and I understand you are a busy shop (we waited almost two hours to get dinner), but this is certainly a way to treat customers. And yes, the other low ratings are definitely genuine. The food alone is at most 3 stars. Save you a trip in the future.
Most disappointing Thai food ever! Ridiculously expensive for small portions and sad taste.
The place looks very tired and sad looking. The guy who took our order was rude and mumbling. He was impatient while we were browsing their menu even though they're was nobody but us in this place. We asked to get bowls for our soup but he only wanted to give us 2 small plastic cups with plastic teaspoon. Also we ordered fried spring rolls and got fresh spring rolls. They probably didn't feel like making some. The Tom kha was ok but too watery. The panang curry was tasteless. I'm not talking of spiciness level, just no taste. Blaah I can understand that it may be difficult to hire help but then, first if you cannot provide dine in option then say so. And second then at least try to be nice with your customers who spend good money (yes, on top of that it is expensive) supporting your business.
