Z'Tejas Tempe - Permanently Closed Tempe Reviews
Excellent food, terrific service and a great ambiance - the DATE NIGHT trifecta! The Diablo Pasta was incredible, the mini taco appetizers really hit the spot and the guacamole, salsa & queso dip trio was devoured in just a few minutes. Delicious and HIGHLY recommended!
Food was amazing! Margaritas are giant. Staff is friendly and the cornbread is fresh and charitable!
You can find me at this place very regularly. I consider myself a true regular of Z'Tejas. Since my first week at Tempe, I've been to Z'Tejas probably nearly 50 times. The service is always amazing! I love the service, sonis the atmosphere, especially when the weather is suitable for the patio area, that is the best area to sot at. This is one of my favorite places at Mill Ave. and I will always love it. The Tejas trio is how I begin each time I go there, the guacamole, salsa and the queso is all very amazing, the tortilla chips are bottomless. My favorite two dishes are the diablo pasta with chicken (spicy) and their chicken fajita. Both are awesome! I don't prefere some other dishes, I didn't like the tacos and the enchillada. However their hige salads are very filling and nice too. My number 1 place in Arizona!
Amazing service and a friendly staff. Best margaritas money can buy. Great food. And an amazing happy hour. What more could you want?
Fabulous Southwestern and New Mexican dishes. Too many favorites to name. Shrimp and crab stuffed Hatch chili's on seasonal menu was amazing.
Amazing great ambiance amazing food and awesome service our waitress was very nice. I dont have one complaint A+++++
Went for happy hour and the food and drinks were great. The bartender was even better. Great service !!!!
It's got a nice variety of southwestern fare. The cornbread is delicious so be sure to get some!
I came here with a non-profit organization for adults with disabilities, and I was incredibly impressed and thankful for the GM, hostess, our server, Garrett, and the the rest of the food runners for their thoughtfulness and attentiveness to our specific needs. They were amicable with our tired travelers, sharing jokes and being genuinely interested in their interactions. I could not be more pleased and grateful. The food was delicious and the portions generous. Thank you, Garrett and thank you to everyone that worked with us. We are so grateful.
Made a last minute reservation on open table and got to the restaurant 10 minutes before close they honored the open table reservation were very friendly. The drinks were delicious and the food was great. I had the mushroom enchiladas. Very impressed by their food and service.
Ate here 3 times during a 2 day vacation in AZ for dinner, brunch and lunch. Great food, friendly staff, and excellent service was too hard to resist coming back as much as possible. Ask for Sam as a waitress and let her order for you to get the best results
Great food which is nicely priced during happy hour. Expect a little more drain on your wallet otherwise. Slightly higher class vibe than most of the rest of the Mill crowd.
Love Hatch Chile season. I can't recall the name of the dish I ordered, but it was like Mexican stir fry with different kinds of Chiles, zucchini, purple onions, corn and juicy sauce. Not hot to the taste, but the heat sure snuck up on me. Excellent service. One star off because bartenders who salt the inside rim of a Margarita glass need to go back to bartender school. (Oh, and ALWAYS order the corn bread. Sweet, spicy and amazing texture served with soft butter.)
Excellent lunch: smoked shrimp enchiladas with black beans and rice. I enjoyed the ambience as well. As a traveler to Phoenix, or more properly Tempe in this case, was great that my first meal in a while was at this very good location. Recommended.
Always enjoy the good food & Svc here.
Only had appetizers and corn bread. Bread is made all day. Tried the tuna, wings, chips and salsa, queso and dumplings. The experience was pleasant and smooth.
Good eats. Service was a bit slow considering we ate early and the restaurant was empty. Otherwise a good overall experience.
Wild mushroom enchiladas were excellent as well as the shrimp and guacamole tostadas. Waitress was very friendly too.
I took a group of 12 from my office and they were very quick to accomodate us. They even asked how we wanted to handle the payment upfront which was convenient as well.
Our waiter was outstanding! Food was excellent & beautifully presented! Had a great time!
Best Sunday brunch around. I was immediately sold on the build your own Bloody Mary and Mimosa bar.
Pricey but good. Got a whole buffet of food for an event (not on my own bill) and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
The food was excellent! Service got off to a rough start, but got better as some time went by.
Delicious menu selection and friendly service. Fun atmosphere with patio seating.
great atmosphere and awesome margaritas. I loved the service too. I only give 5 stars to restaurants that are fine dining, but as far as fun happy hour/great place to hang out with your friends, this place is 4 out of 4! :)
Prepare to feast like royalty at the Monarch. The food, wine and decor are first class at this establishment. The waiter was also a sommelier so we had good context for the wines that were chosen for the price fixe dinner for pairing. As recommended in other posts my boyfriend and I chose the cauliflower soup.
I love this restaurant however, ever since they have changed management I have had horrible service (having to wait 45mins to get food doing lunch hour). The restaurant is nice and the food is good but they need to get better at serving quickly during the lunch hour and make sure they visit each table frequently and not take 45mim to make a salad. This has happened the past 3 times I have visited during lunch. Also, they do not have free cornbread anymore which is a big dissapointment.
Always a solid choice when looking for a place to eat on Mill Avenue. Their menu is really good, staff is friendly and I like their location. The valet parking is convenient as it can be a pain to park downtown at times. They have indoor and outdoor seating. The patio can be a fun place to do some people watching, especially during busy times on Mill Avenue. The salads are good, their burgers, tacos and enchiladas are good, as well. Try the big ol' chicken stuffed Poblano pepper. Yum.
If you're looking for the type of dishes you find at most Mexican restaurants you'll have to keep looking. They put a little fine dining twist on typical Mexican food. The chili con queso was good, as was my chicken burrito.
The food was better than I expected, and the service was good. The prices are still too high though. I would rather visit a good local Mexican food place, which are everywhere in Tempe.
Slow... Rude... Waited 40 minutes for a togo order... Yes it was a busy night bit come on... Tacos and an app doesn't take 40 minutes..... At least be nice about it..
Very friendly wait staff and nice atmosphere, but this comes at a price...I was shocked when I got the happy hour bill
The atmosphere is decent - Romantic, Laid Back, and Relaxed. I got a "Garcia's" type of vibe. The host and server were nice, polite, and always smiling. The food wasn't Authentic Mexican Food but it was good enough to finish most of the plate. The appetizer was better than either of the entrees my wife and I had. It did feel like my dinner was a tad bit over-priced. Overall a 3 star fits it just fine.
Cocktails are very good and priced well. We have patronized this location on Ray Road for over 15 years and have enjoyed the majority. This past NYE 2015 was very different. Everyone's order in our party was either burned, wrong or cold. These were entrees that we normally order. The waiter was great and very attentive and concerned. The manager was at a loss for the problems but did little to maintain our loyalty as regular customers.
Good food; however, a bit overpriced for what you get. Has an odd Southwestern mix that doesn't fully satisfy a desire for Mexican or American food. Has a nice discount for Gammage show attendees if you show them your tickets.
Good food, but nothing special. High prices. Staff is helpful. Good luck parking. Most metered parking is always full due to the movie theater, garage parking is expensive and free vallet is always understaffed, youre better off parking a few miles away and grabbing an Uber to save time and money. I got here at 630 but waited for vallet until 7 so I missed happy hour.
I stopped here for a quick cocktail and appetizer before a movie at AMC. The chicken quesadilla was tasty and service was good, but the margarita was weak and appeared to be pre-mixed, and the garnishes were clearly a couple days old and starting to dry out.
The place is really nice, service was great and they offered us a complimentary app for first time visitors. I just wasnt pleased with the veggie southwest caeser salad...it was lettuce, dressing, and tortilla strips (no veggies) for $11... for lunch...way over priced and not worth it.
Appetizers came with our dinner which of course shouldn't. cornbread & catfish nuggets appetizer were really good though. After all the raving my coworkers did, I expected better.
The food was okay, but it was way too expensive. The place was completely empty during lunch and the server we had was very creepy.
We sat down just before 5 and took 10 mins to order. We ordered off the happy hour menu. We asked our waitress if the happy hour pricing was still in effect. She said that since we we 're seated before 5 she thought it wouldn't be an issue. She came back a few minutes later and said it was an issue. Management told her we needed to order before 5. Customer service is not their strong point.
Overall, the entire restaurant is only mediocre. Their attempt at Mexican cuisine fell very short. The salsa tastes like marinara sauce, the red chile is closer to a BBQ sauce than anything, and even their burgers aren't that special. The burrito had an okay taste, but mediocre mexican food is not really worthwhile in the southwest. I will say that it is quieter than many of the bars and restaurants off of Mill, but its food is not worth the price.
We went as a last minute dinner, never been before. We arrived and the hostess was friendly, she sat us at our table. Waited a little bit for out waiter and took a while for drinks. Which he looked very confused when we ordered tea and water. Our waiter just seemed like he hated everything and everyone. All the girls seemed very grumpy as well. We sat near the entrance to the kitchen and could see our waiter yelling at the girls dropping F-bombs. We could hear him very clearly. That lost him a good tip. When he would refill our drinks we would say "Thank you" or "Thanks" and he would just say "Yeah." And walk away. No smile. No friendly tone in his voice. Did not once ask us how our meal was, or really check on us, mine sucked btw. He did not want to be serving us, and did not care about his customers one bit. Will probably not go back.
The last time I ate there, the sauce they paired with my ahi was sweet enough to be an ice cream topping. This is what happens when they let market research dictate recipes. On the other hand, their margaritas are INCREDIBLE.
This place was good, now any pork dish is 50% fat, no meat. Ordered a second drink with dinner, dinner came out and 20 minutes later my drink came, I wanted the drink with my dinner. Not worth going.
Catfish wasn't done in cornmeal as the menu reads. It had no flavor. Chicken pecan salad is made with processed meat and the overall taste was horrible.
It was very poor service when the place had 4 other tables. So five tables on a Saturday night and it took 30 mins to get chicken fajitas.
Horrible service. We made reservations ahead of time for a large party. The tables werent set up to accomodate all of us. We had a group of 20 and they only provided us with 2 servers. The manager did not even bother to come help with taking orders or bringing drinks or food. We were not offered water to begin with. The drinks were very slowing in coming out. The establishment was not even busy and this was on a Sunday afternoon. They ran out of Bloody Mary mix (On a Sunday???) I had an appetizer and 2 drinks and my bill was over $25. Will definitely not go back to this establishment ever again nor will I recommend it to anyone. Sad sad experience
Worst service my family and I have EVER experienced! We had a party of about 20 with a reservation. Assigned two servers one new one experienced. We began ordering our food at 815 and didn't get our food until 915. It was cold, nasty, look like slop, the salad had too much dressing and we had to get up to get our own drinks after asking 4 times for refills. When brought up to the manager he laughed in our face and called us liars! He proceeded to argue with us along with server arguing with0 us and ended up charging people for food we never received. I will NEVER return to any Z'tegas establishments due to this one restaurants incompetence and lack or respect for its customers!
We visited on 4/24/16. Our party of 5 was seated immediately. We sat for 15 minutes and received absolutely no service - nobody came by our table to offer us water or take our drink order, much less take our food order. So we simply stood up and walked out. The wait staff was nowhere to be seen, I stopped by the bar and told the bartender we were leaving due to lack of service. Service like this is rarely forgotten.
