Beautiful atmosphere and friendly team. Had a large group and items came out very quickly. We ordered a little bit of everything and enjoyed all of our food! We talked about the stuffing muffin for the rest of the day (kept reordering it) thanks for having us!
Whether you’re a local or just visiting the northern neck, I highly recommend the Merroir. The oysters are farm-raised and finished primarily on-site. It’s hard to find fresher oysters! The restaurant offers beautiful bay views, great service and food! They easily and happily accommodated our party of 17.
Perfect day! We loved enjoying a perfect early summer lunch on the patio. Shout out to Marques for taking good care of us. The market fish, Rockfish, was fantastic. The table also tried the poke tacos, burger, crab cake and seafood roll. All were tasty. Sitting in the shade gazing out at the water was the best part! Delightful!
We came for the oysters and they did not disappoint. However my glass of wine and my husband drink were a little warm nothing to make a fuss over. Just an observation and I wish there was more on the menu for kiddos. They ended up reading and sharing a grilled cheese. The views were amazing and the outdoor seating worked well with the outdoor heaters. We visited on a Sunday afternoon not crowded at all 💕
A beautiful place with amazing food. Great wine and beer selection and attentive staff. Would highly recommend.
My dad recently moved to the area- he is obsessed with Merroir. the staff are always so nice to us as well! Rappahannock oysters always taste sooo fresh, and the hot sauce is fantastic. The buratta and ceviche are must-tries! if they have crème brûlée on the specials menu, get it while it lasts!
The best oysters I've had in the rivah area yet. We chose the Olde Salt variety which were smooth and briny. Watching the sun set on the quiet harbor, we enjoyed their crab cake (which the waitress promised had "no fillers" and she didn't lie) and the steamed clams in a wine garlic broth. Both dishes were delicious and would only have been better if there were more of them! My only complaint is the appetizer of red pepper clam soup came out luke warm. I didn't have the heart to tell the waitress who was very sweet and efficient. It was the end of a long shift, after all, and everything else was divine, including my "sour beer" which grew on me over the course of the meal. We plan on returning for sure! Returned for another wonderful outdoor dining experience. This time had the shrimp and scallop ceviche which was nicely cured in lime juice and cilantro, balanced by salty tortilla chips. We chose to try half dozen Rappahannock oysters and half doz olde salt. Both were absolutely delicious. We still think these are the best oysters we've had in the area yet. Rappahannocks were very smooth and clean tasting and the old salt were perfectly briny. Love them! I had a lovely glass of Spanish fizzy white Txakolina wine. Took home a creamy slice of key lime pie for dessert. Happily ate it as a midnight snack, two forks, done in no time.
Here several times over a weekend. The views are what you'd hope for. The staff, is excellent, conscientious, quick and caring. As for the food, on average, it's excellent. Their oysters are standard, great. The other options are from creative to expected. If you're in the area, this is an absolute stop.
Pet sitting on the Piankatank River and stopped in for lunch. The oyster poor boy was very good - oysters were well seasoned and fried. I did grow up in New Orleans so am used to larger oysters but these did fill the bun, along with a vinegary cabbage slaw. The bun was just a store-bought hot dog bun. A crusty french roll would have made the sandwich a lot better! Too cold to eat outside but still had a great view from the dining room window.
Absolutely delicious seafood!!! The puffin stuffing is to die for and my fish tacos were really good! It's such a little hole in the wall style place by the water, but with the flavor of a high end restaurant. Definitely recommend calling ahead for a reservation to avoid long waits, particularly on the weekend.
Great place. Wonderful seafood. We had a blast there.
Great out of the way spot. Definitely sit outside and watch the river go by! we had the crab cake, Caesar salad, mixed greens, ceviche and, oysters. All amazing. The key lime pie and chocolate cake we really good as well. Vicki was super helpful. Come out, get a local beer, watch the sailboats and have some tasty food!!..😎
At Merroir, they serve their own cultured oysters in a rustic setting. Some really refined cooking which equals the good at high end restaurants. Wonderfully fresh raw oysters on the half shell and who knew that you could make Oysters Rockefeller into a dip! Really delicious! The service was a bit inattentive, but still good enough as ther good is totally worth it. Very nice dessert as well. While we ate indoors, the door was open and the outdoor seating area is spacious with a nice view. Definitely a great stop along the Virginia coast.
This is our favorite place to visit whenever we are in the area. We recently spent the weekend in Irvington, and visited Merroir 3 times. We came twice after a round of golf for beers and oysters, and came with a large group for dinner. The oysters are obviously fantastic, but the ceviche and bruschetta were excellent as well. They have food options for kids, it's just not on the menu. They were able to accommodate our party of 9 people for dinner. The outdoor area is great for kids, as we were able to enjoy drinks and appetizers, while the kids played in the grassy area. The view and atmosphere is top notch. Love this place!
The oysters were incredible! Loved the oyster stew as well. The crab soup was way too spicy for us, but we were warned by the waitress, so that was on us. The scallops were tender, flavorful, and cooked for perfection. We can't wait to cone back during the warm weather! This place is a gem!
A very good surprise, the place is amazing , a 180° panoramic view of the river, and a nice terrace. You can sit outside now, because the covid, but is much better, they have a terrace with tables or you can use the picnic tables on the grass. The food can be ordered online and its ready when you arrive there. We did that and was easy. Tuna Tacos.... Shrimps...and Grill Fish. Amazing. Is a pet friendly place then you can go there with you little friend. Outside food is not allowed, and you can't fish on the docks... you will want... hahaha, but you will forget it later. And just will enjoy the food, view and accompany.
The outdoor setting near the water and the lovely shaded #Dogfriendly Patio are wonderful. All the staff was friendly and service was great. Food is excellent. We had the Oysters, seafood roll and Cheeseburger. All was great!
We love visiting this spot for special occasions. Even when we are wanting some fresh seafood, this is so worth the drive. It doesn't matter if it is cold out too, they have an inside eating area.
Really good place! Oysters were fresh, chilled and delicious! They grow Rappahanock there, and bring Olde Salts from Chincotegue. Black bass was fresh and really well cooked. Good selection of drinks. Friendly service. Low key and down to earth, really good. Not cheap. Servings are on the smaller side I’d say.
I cannot find a single fault with this place other than it’s waaaay far from our location but hey- it’s worth the drive. The serene and nature soaked view is something you’ll only find tucked out of the way. The location is beside a working oyster warehouse where you can watch oysterman bring in and clean the catch. It is also surrounded by the river making the views incredibly special. Watching boats come in to the little marina is relaxing. The servers are attentive and friendly. There is seating outside and inside the restaurant- all comfortable and spread out enough. We had the raw oysters- Rappahannocks and Salts and both were perfectly briny, fresh and accompanied by a great vinegary mignonette. We had ceviche with scallops and shrimp and a bowl of summer-fresh cucumber avocado gazpacho. Just a snack on our way home from a trip. We’ll come back and do more damage another time! Bought a couple of T-shirts and a hat with the oyster logo. It’s a great place.
Beautiful sweeping views, delicious food, friendly staff. We tried all of the starters and were not disappointed. I think our fav were the bbq chipotle oysters. We ordered ‘em twice. Give the crab cakes a try too.
This restaurant is nestled right on the Rappahannock River with a casual dining atmosphere. Grab a drink and tapas. Sit back; Enjoy the river view with friends and family. I would highly recommend the steamed shrimp and raw oysters.
We travelled to the Chesapeake Bay area to find authentic local cuisine and this was the best example we found over the weekend. Friendly attentive service combined with an appetizing menu to provide an excellent all round experience at great value. Highly recommend the Lamb and Clam stew and the Shrimps and Grits. Don't forget to try the BBQ Oysters to start the meal.
A wonderful place worth driving to for lunch or dinner. We usually sit outside with our pup, where there are fans and heaters depending on the weather. The freshest oysters and seafood, amazing home made Key Line Pie, and lovely people in a beautiful spot right in the river with great views all around.
We stopped here for a drink and appetizers by the water. It was raining a bit and the staff accommodated us with a seat outside they wiped off and opened umbrella for us. The smoked trout dip was delish and I enjoyed a glass of Rosé by the water. We didn’t have a main course but our server Myles mentioned some of the specials that sounded great. The atmosphere, food, and staff were pleasant and we even got a rainbow! We will visit again if back in area.
We were referred to this bayside local tasting room & our group found each dish absolutely fresh & delightful. Oysters several ways; the angel & bourbon bbq were amazing along with the steamed shrimp & clams. Fish tacos were also full of flavor. For dessert, try their yummy homemade blueberry & key lime pies!
Oh my get the Angels on the half back. They are super amazing. And the service is awesome to. Great views on the water. We just pulled up and tied the boat up and had a glass of wine and oysters. Definitely would come back.
10-star location with 3.5-star food. Seafood is always expensive, so have that expectation. The oysters are as fresh as you're going to find. Steamed shrimp were good size. We have the Seafood Scrapple. It didn't have a ton of flavor. I wouldn't get it again. I would opt for the crab cake instead. Know that you go for the view and ambiance and the food is good enough to keep you coming back.
Fresh seafood with fantastic waterfront views. Casual. Can get crowded outside in good weather.
First time visiting the Merroir Tasting Room. Beautiful location on the Rappahannock river. I can't tell you what the inside of the restaurant looks like, but the outside is sharp. Whatever the inside is like, outdoor dining on the river would be my choice even if inside dining was available during the pandemic. After the friendly, happy and helpful staff took our order, we ate super fresh shrimp and oysters on a picnic table located about 12 feet from the river. My wife has found a new favorite restaurant. Location and the freshest seafood you can imagine are two big draws for Merroir Tasting Room.
Best kept secret in the area. Food was very fresh and cooked perfectly. Right on the water with beautiful views. I had the crab cake & steamed shrimp. Husband had the raw rap oysters. He said they were so good he had to get a second dozen. It is mostly outdoor seating but with that view who would want to sit inside?! It was a little pricey but totally worth it. Dog friendly outside. We will definitely be coming back!
I found this place just by chance when searching for a seafood restaurant 😋 and oh my goodness, were we delighted with our view our service and most of All the food 😀. It was a little out of the way, but oh my goodness, the view was just gorgeous 😍. Thank you so much. we loved your place.. 😘😋😋😋😋
We loved our visit here, the menu is small plates and oysters and has a wide wine list and a few beer options and excellent desserts. The menu does change a little with the seasons but the oysters are always available.
Do yourself a favor and order the whole pound of steamed shrimp. I ordered a half pound and it wasn't enough. Hubby ordered the oysters and he was in heaven. Great views and atmosphere.
Such the perfect spot! Great view, impeccable service, quality seaffod, and good selection of cocktails. We will def return!
Sitting outside on a beautiful day with a view of the water; great food (seafood (oysters) is its specialty); great service; and enjoying great seafood with a cool, refreshing beer. What could be better? Five Stars. Bring your family and friends for a most enjoyable, relaxing experience.
Really cool atmosphere right on the water. Lots of shaded seating, excellent service, super fresh and delicious. We had the red pepper crab soup (rich and zesty), oyster angels on horseback (small but packed with flavor), ceviche (almost as good as what we had in MX), and scallops (the most perfectly crusted and delicately cooked we’ve ever had).
The 3-course meal is excellent. I had the salad the freshest I have had in a while. The main course was my black bean burger, the best I have ever tasted. I have tried in Richmond, but this is worth the drive to try. I concluded with the amazing key lime pie which was amazing as every course. A must-try place the drive is definitely worth it. The view is beautiful to.
My wife and I ate here last Friday to celebrate Father’s Day weekend and her birthday. This was our first stop when we arrived to the Northern Neck. First of all, this location is as picturesque as it gets. They’ve done everything perfectly as well to take advantage of the beauty of the mouth of the river. Whoever is responsible for the grounds is very talented! For the food, we had Oysters of course which rivaled the best I’ve had in coastal Maine. Very fresh and delicious. Ceviche was incredible as well, A for execution. I don’t usually order this many things but saw that they had Watermelon-Mint Jalapeño Gazpacho and had to try it. Holy crap that was amazing. I need that recipe! lol. Unfortunately the entrees were not as impressive. My wife had the scallops and they were delicious but you got 4 small to medium scallops with a little bit of grilled corn and sauce. That’s more of an app it seems but oh well. The only major disappointment was the Rockfish special. My fourth or fifth time getting it at restaurants and this was by far the worst. The fish itself was edible but oversalted. Every bite just tasted like table salt. I could be wrong but it also didn’t seem incredibly fresh. It wasn’t flaky and had a dense slightly oily texture which I don’t recall from other times ordering it. Equally as disappointing was the sad yellowish green overcooked asparagus and handful of white beans underneath it as the accompaniment. Our waitress was very friendly and worked very hard. She was stretched thin so I can’t blame her for our check taking a long time to arrive at the end. I definitely will be back. My only feedback is the Rockfish. Everything else was stellar and memorable for my wife and I. Definitely visit this place. Rating a 4 due to entrees being off the mark but the rest of the experience was stellar.
The food was absolutely delicious and the view is beautiful, but I expected more attentive service considering the caliber of this place. Our water glasses went dry and remained dry until we asked for a refill. And water was all we were drinking. Our server attended the table right next to ours three times before finally taking our payment so we could leave. She didn't even look in our direction for us to get her attention. Still, the fish tacos were some of the best I have had, and the oyster po boy was very tasty as well. Seating is mostly outside but even on a 90+ degree day, the breeze and shade made dining comfortable.
Service was spotty. Food was incredible. View was outstanding
This place is in the middle of nowhere and it’s completely worth the drive. I could’ve spent the whole afternoon just looking at the beautiful view and relaxing. The food is mostly small plates and you can order a variety of things and get a sampling of different seafood. It is very seafood focused and the oysters are incredibly fresh. The one dish that disappointed a little bit was the red pepper crab soup the red pepper overpowered everything and you didn’t really get the taste of the crab! Most recent review 4th July 24 We have been there several times, but we have to say this time we were a little disappointed. A lot of it had to do with our waiter who left a lot to desire. The first glass of water he brought my partner had a big chip in it so he asked him to bring a different glass and he never did till we asked again. Can we have some water. We only got one glass of water he never refilled them and he just really was very much lacking in customer service Specially at this level over restaurant and it kinda ruined the experience and we didn’t want to order a second drink or dessert because of him. We have experience in the past and yes, we will be back but if I got the waiter again, I would ask for a different waiter.
Hidden gem of an establishment, was referred here by a friend and what a treat it was. With everything going on in the world we were told food had to be taken "to-go", little were we explained that "to-go" simply meant walk your food from the order window out to the breathtakingly beautiful outside eating area. Even if you were to sit out and have a glass of wine, or the mildly over priced beer, those views were absolutely still worth the price. Food was sincerely delicious, had the shrimp and grits, dozen oysters (forgot the flavor), and the tuna tacos. Only qualm of the entire experience was the size of the portions, in my opinion they were a bit small, but a other than that really no complaints and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
Amazing location , food is decent , service was horrible… and I’m not over selling that A burger, crab cake , and a po boy plus fountain drinks well over 100 dollars Waitress seemed bothered and distracted
Love the river views. This was our first visit. I had high expectations for their food. The red pepper crab soup was not a hit for me, it lacked the “creamy” taste it advertised. The waitress noted the steamed clams looked bland. It was in a salt water broth, no herb butter. She blamed it on the new cook.
Take note that we visited on Father's Day, and we are not big seafood eaters. This place is worth the view! AMAZING gem of a place that is found at the end of a well-paved cow path road that the neighbors are probably tired of ALL that traffic. We arrived at about 545 pm and chose the 'no-wait' porch instead of the 'wait' view. The servers were GREAT but str--etch--ed thin for the number of customers (remember Father's Day). The kitchen was BACKED UP per several servers' apologies. Right away, we choose the naan/ baguette starter and our meal choice, burgers & chips. Starter was simple and delish (cut breads & garlic butter - more garlic, please!). Meal choice was a standard burger of fresh ingredients with a side order of chips. We left at 700 pm. Fifteen minutes was us eating, and the rest of the time was waiting. I highly recommend this place, but on beautiful days, maybe order through their online option and take it to the picnic tables (outside of the restaurant's 'outside eating area' that are right next to the water! Of course, if you are a huge oyster & alcohol cosumer, enjoy the wait and consume to your heart's content. It seems to be worth it for those Rappahannock Oysters (interesting reading online)!!
I've been coming here since they originally opened. The stuffin muffin won me over. Recently visited again when in the area, and the stuffin muffin had no resemblance of its 1st iteration. Although they comped, disappointed as it was my favorite dish. Service was exceptionally slow as well.
The good: great location! The bad: everything else. Prices were way too high for what you get. Crab cake had more shells in it than crab, it seemed. Oysters were super small. Beers came out warm. Other food just wasn't great. For the pricing and review rating, I was expecting a whole lot more.
Misleading menu, unacceptable portion sizing and presentation for the price point, paper boats and plastic cups vs. plates and glassware. You get the picture... this is a seemingly upscale restaurant charging exorbitant prices for very low quality food and no service staff. Very sad, because the property and river view is beautiful - if the owners didn't obtain PPP loans and/or participate in the RRF program, shame on them. If they did and then mismanaged the funds, that's a decision they will come to regret. Below are pictures of the riverfront view and our $72 "meal".
On 8-12-25 we got there at 4:00 pm. We had to wait to be seated and to be served. The service was horrible!! The oysters were like baby oysters, the other appetizer we got was horrible. The avocado was so hard I seriously couldn’t cut it with a knife and the chips were stale! I asked for a straw for the ( flat ) can coke they gave me and I was told they don’t have straws. The first beer my husband asked for that was on the menu was not in stock and it took about 30 minutes to get the other kind he ordered because she said it was coming out all foam. They never came by to check on us or ask if we needed another drink and finally we told her we were not ordering dinner because the stuff we did get was awful! The waitress never smiled! When we asked her a question about an item she acted like we were bothering her! P.S. The outdoor scenery was beautiful!
