Ci sono stato qualche anno fa e ho voluto cenare nuovamente qui, visto che mi trovavo in zona per lavoro. Tutto davvero ottimo, personale gentile. Ambiente rilassante. Magari se volete cenare fuori, prenotate il prima possibile, anche se dentro con questo caldo si sta da dio. Rapporto qualità-prezzo ottimo.

Al di sopra delle aspettative — Siamo finiti qua su consiglio dell’ottima guida Giovanni (consigliato, lo trovate su “free walking tours Italia”) perché volevamo mangiare cucina triestina. La qualità del pesce ci ha davvero colpito e anche la preparazione. Anche i dolci erano buonissimi (molti locali “cadono” qui, sul più bello). Vino bianco della casa e buona atmosfera. Siamo stati fortunati perché il nostro tavolo non era troppo vicino ad altri. Tutto sommato vale davvero una visita (e non capiamo perché la “media” su Google nel momento in cui scriviamo è “solo” 4,3). Siamo stati a cena a gennaio, in alta stagione (tra capodanno e l’Epifania).

Lovely dinner in a beautiful bar that looked very traditional, right behind one of the most beautiful squares in the world. As for white wine we had a lovely Malvasia. For starter we chose a gratin of various types of seafood. The scallops were prepared exactly the way I love them. A simple but extremely tasty recipe probably unique to Trieste. For main I ordered one of the specials of the day: fish lasagne with seafood ragù that tasted good. Usually the individual types of fish are not recognizable in this recipe while here they were. Very good sign. I loved the complimentary shot of Terrano liquor they offered us at the end. Price was very reasonable. Both quality of the food and the service felt much better than what we would have found somewhere else for the same price.

We only had dessert here, quite late in the evening, as we had already eaten pizza elsewhere and were quite disappointed. The owner also seemed to take pity on us and was kind enough to serve us just one dessert for a change. We had two different desserts which were both absolutely delicious. The service was excellent. The restaurant itself was very cosy and informal with a great atmosphere. The waiters were all very nice and courteous. You can tell that they put their heart and soul into their work.

The menu focuses on seafood, featuring a variety of starters like creamed codfish and marinated anchovies, first courses such as spaghetti chitarra with crab, and main courses including mixed grilled fish and fried calamari. We appreciated the fresh ingredients, but the seafood mix was overfried. The creative presentation of the deconstructed tiramisu was enjoyable, and the dessert itself was delicious. With friendly service and reasonable prices, this is a lovely spot for casual dining.

Once a year we meet up with friends from all over the place. This time we picked Malcanton for our special dinner. The owner went above and beyond to accommodate our needs, and despite the restaurant being full, he took the time to make us feel welcome, explain the menu and suggest options based on our requests. Food was delicious, I especially liked the saffron pasta with clams. Attentive and kind service. Altogether a wonderful evening for which we're thankful.

Lovely seafood experience there at this restaurant. It is a very cozy restaurant close to the shopping area with very BUSY staffs, all of them were helpful with us but kinda slow. And also for the food choices was super wide. We were five of us, we mostly ordered half of them food choices from the menu. All food was coming slow but fresh, no decoration of food at all. When we were eating they did not come over and ask us if we need anything else or anything they can assist with, which was very very very not ok . Even though it was very busy at that time, I could easily see that the are treating every of their guest like us, super nice but not helpful. I will fully recommending their seafood deep fried , very crispy and juicy, fresh. Also they shrimp and prawns. Very creamy and nutty which is great. For their mai course I would love to say the scampi Spaghetti are wonderful to choose. Desserts I would say they are very heavy. If you want something light. Do not choose anything related to chocolate from their menu.

Amazing food and amazing atmosphere. The staff were outstanding and the way in which they made jokes and made the mood of the dinner better!! When walking to the restaurant, staff came out to ask whether they would like to eat. We had 2 dogs with us but they happily said it is fine and led us to a good seat. I would recommend it to anyone who would want to come eat here. It may be necessary to get a reservation but it is still worth the effort!!! Tl;dr. Come here if you can for dinner!!!

We absolutely enjoyed our tour with Barbara. She is fun, knowledgeable, communicative. Not only she shared history of Triest with us, but also had fun stories to tell :). We highly recommend her.

A volte i ristoranti migliori sono quelli che non fanno troppo rumore, ma lavorano bene. Hostaria Trieste è esattamente così. Locale accogliente, atmosfera rilassata, senza fronzoli inutili. Ci si siede e si ha subito la sensazione di essere nel posto giusto per mangiare bene e passare una serata piacevole. Non è un ristorante costruito per stupire con effetti speciali, ma per convincere con la sostanza. E alla fine è ciò che conta. Il pesce è stato il protagonista della cena: buono, fresco, ben lavorato. Piatti curati ma senza eccessi, sapori puliti e porzioni equilibrate. Una cucina che punta alla concretezza e riesce nell’intento. Si mangia con gusto, senza complicazioni. E si esce soddisfatti. Nota simpatica della serata: al tavolo accanto abbiamo incontrato altri clienti fiorentini, anche loro entusiasti dell’esperienza. Quando più tavoli, senza conoscersi, condividono la stessa buona impressione, di solito è un ottimo segnale. Il servizio è stato cordiale e leggero. Il cameriere, sentendomi parlare della bora, ha colto la palla al balzo con una battuta simpatica che ha strappato un sorriso e reso l’atmosfera ancora più informale. Quel tipo di interazione spontanea che rende la cena più viva e meno “standard”. Unica nota pratica: il parcheggio non è semplicissimo. Conviene lasciare l’auto un po’ più lontano e fare due passi a piedi, scelta che evita stress e permette di godersi la serata con più serenità. In sintesi: buon pesce, ambiente piacevole, servizio genuino. Un indirizzo affidabile dove tornare volentieri.

Siamo arrivati alle 14,15 senza prenotare chiedendo un tavolo per 6. Il proprietario carinamente ci ha fatto accomodare dopo qualche minuto. Portandoci il menù ci ha consigliato qualche piatto e dato qualche spiegazione dato che ha capito la nostra provenienza emiliana. Abbiamo ordinato diversi piatti e condivisi; antipasti,primi e secondi. Consigliato: Pesce spada e salmone con marmellata di cipolle rossee salsa kren. Spaghettoni con vongole e timo. Fritto misto. Tonno in crosta di pistacchio con verdure croccanti. Vino della casa,caffè. Dopo aver pagato il conto ci ha offerto un liquore fatto in casa tipico della zona. Consigliato. Prezzo 25 per persona.

Il locale è un po' piccolo con lo spazio tra i tavoli un po' ristretto. Abbiamo assaggiato diversi piatti. Tuttavia, a parte la zuppa di pesce che era più che accettabile, il resto delle portate non ci ha particolarmente entusiasmato. Dalla tagliata di tonno mi aspettavo di più. I prezzi a nostro avviso sono risultati un po' sopra la media.

Locale carino.. anche i tavoli esterni sono comunque intimi... personale attento è cortese..per quanto riguarda il menù è tutto buono, ma non eccezionale (a parer mio)... negli antipasti alcune note fruttate non aggiungevano nulla ai piatti proposti..purtroppo ho trovato la pasta un po’ sciarpa (ma forse sono io che mangio abbastanza saporito)... la frittura era croccante e ben fatta. Ottima posizione proprio dietro piazza unità d’Italia, nulla da dire sulla qualità del pesce, ma sono rimasta delusa dalla ridotta scelta del menu, e soprattutto dalle porzioni! Sul rapporto qualità-prezzo non ci siamo, inoltre il pane era completamente bianco e crudo! Mi dispiace molto ma mi aspettavo molto di piu… mangiato in 3 persone, 2 antipasti e 2 secondi con mezzo litro di vino e acqua 100€, siamo usciti ancora con la fame perché vedendo le porzioni non abbiamo ordinato altro!

Purtroppo devo dire che questa volta usciamo con l'amaro in bocca. Antipasto discreto. Solo per il baccalà mantecato. Capesante ridotte al solo nervo bianco condite con prezzemolo in polvere. Il corallo? Più o meno grande, lo hanno tutte . Poi mia moglie ha preso il primo, chitarre alla busta e in il secondo, grigliata mista. Il problema: per fare uscire i due piatti assieme, le chitarre erano incollate e tiepide, i due scampi, aperti per svenarli, erano stracotti, praticamente la coda si era dissolto nel carapace. Grigliata: se parliamo di grigliata significa che i prodotti devono passare su piastra senza essere praticamente quasi fritti, visto lo strato oleoso su ambedue i lati dei filetti. Giusto lo scampo e il gamberone erano "piastrati". Insomma, eravamo venuti quattro anni fa per anniversario e siamo stati bene. Il 29 dicembre 2025, proprio no. Mi spiace.

„Instagram Like Restaurant“ - everything looks good but is missing the substance. The food is average at best, nothing special. Portions rather small, price on the higher end. Did not feel right overall. To the owner: it was clear that you would be replying with a sour answer as you do with all negative reviews. So, I'll start with the conclusion: don't go! Don't eat there, there's so many better places in Trieste, you really deserve more. The food is mediocre, served with an attitude of 2M stars, at least. The portions size is a joke, I thought I was at a tasting contest. It would be funny if we weren't that hungry. Well, good redance!
