If you’re visiting Truckee and have to pick only one place to eat, this is the one. Best overall dining experience I’ve had in a very long time. Food was delicious and complex and service was excellent. Good value for what you’ll pay. Can’t wait to come back and try next season’s menu.

Highly executed cuisine! John Weatherson is a smart and skilled chef who gets nothing but results time and time again. The food itself is phenomenal, the ingredients are of the highest quality and you can literally taste every part of each bite. The wine selection is spectacular and they even offer parings of wine, beer or nonalcoholic beverages. The tasting menu is the way to go, otherwise there is a prix fixe menu or a’la carte. Stop by and try, you will be glad you did.

We came for our engagement celebration, and we absolutely loved the experience. It was my fiancée's first time trying fine cuisine and she was overall impressed. We got the four course tasting menu with the wine pairing, and I thought it was reasonable for the price. My fiancée is vegetarian, so we couldn't try the 10-course meal hut we would've loved to. I would certainly recommend getting the wine pairing if you go here: it really elevates every dish to the next level. We had a small complaint with the red wine selection with the steak/onigiri pairing, so the server graciously let us try the Chianti which was much better. I would highly recommend this restaurant for anyone who wants a fine dining experience in the Tahoe area. I've eaten at Michelin star restaurants and I think this easily measures up to a 1 star Michelin dining experience.

Food is incredibly fine and very tasty. Very clean inside with amazing wait staff and prices are reasonable. The snow piled up here is on blizzard level but city just chugs along. Drove thru and stopped here and when I drive back home I will stop here again... I really like this place

Woooowwwww! So glad we went here. We were hesitant at the outset when we tried to sit outside given the limited options and prices. However once we got going we were glad we decided to stay. The chefs tasting menu was truly special and something akin to a Michelin quality restaurant we’d have in the City. Can’t describe how delicious each dish was because it would take forever but I’m glad we memorialized each one with a quick photo to relive the special moments. Favorites were the “walk in the woods”, Rossini, black truffle pasta, and the olive oil ice cream. The wine flight was also superb. The service was also top notch, Jared and his team went out of their way to make the night special. Even at the end of the night he made recommendations of other Truckee spots, none failed us. Overall a very memorable dining experience which we would happily repeat. We’ll be back soon.

Exceptional! We made reservations for my boyfriend’s birthday. We got the price fixe menu and the wine pairings. Every single dish was fantastic and we learned a ton about the wine we were tasting. Wine pairing = 2.5-3 glasses of wine matched with the courses you choose. I wish there would have been more California wines on the menu (I’m biased!) but the wine did not disappoint. Price fixe menu = four choices with two special treats from the chef. Exceptional flavors and presentation. There were at least five different wait staff we interacted with, and the host, all lovely and helpful. Total cost of the meal including tip and tax came to $635.00 for the two of us. We spent about 2.5 hours dining at Trokay and most of the next day talking about it. Highly recommend for a special occasion.

Wife and I had a lovely 10 course tasting with them a few days ago and we’re still talking about it. The food quality was spectacular, the service is excellent, great wine list and a comfortable setting. Every single course was imaginative, delicious and wonderfully presented. The chefs are truly gifted and deserve your support. We can’t say enough positive things about Trokay, and can’t wait to come back.

Prix Fixe Menu Review Hands down the favorite dish of the night were the Nantucket Bay Scallops. Everything on the plate worked together. It was fantastic. Many times you go through a meal with multiple courses and you have one or two that just fall short. The winter 2025 Prix Fixe did not have a miss for us. Each plate was delicious and well prepared. Zero negative comments for this meal. The service was excellent and everyone was friendly. It kept the atmosphere from being too stuffy, but still felt very professional.

This is my favorite restaurant in California. I’ve had there tasting menus twice, and each time it was a new, miraculous experience. Their food is exquisite, the service is nice, and the ambiance is as expected. It’s a hidden gem in truckee and if you have the time and money I’d highly recommend it. It is worth the price, without a doubt. I had a pine ice dish about 2 years ago as one of the dessert courses and it was like eating the best blue bird powder day ever, with a hint of cozy cabin glow.

I just celebrated my 56th birthday with my wife on the North Shore, which is where I spent a great deal of my free time during medical school at the University of Nevada, and I had not been back to the North Shore since I graduated in 1996. This was a very special time for me to share with my wife because I turned 56, and I could not be more happy with the experience and the quality of the service and the food. It was exceptionally fun to hear the chef was from Sheboygan, Wisconsin, because we used to live in Whitefish Bay and would visit Kohler often for my birthday. I recommend Trokay and look forward to visiting again soon when we come back for Thanksgiving!

The plating and presentation was stunning and the dress code was come as you are which was nice. I wasn’t drinking at the time but my friends loved the wine and I had a really nice virgin bloody mary. Staff was friendly and relaxed like they actually enjoyed their job; no forced politeness or air of stress from anyone. Honestly just a lovely time. I remember hearing that the owners lived in Houston and if that’s true I hope they own another restaurant here as well.

Overall a really enjoyable meal. Had the 4 course and got to try most of the dishes sharing with my partner. Some really interesting flavors and standout dishes. The canapes, salad, and scallops were particularly tasty with great flavor and balance. However, a few of the dishes ended up feeling a little bit heavy/salty like the cauliflower soup, the soba sauce, and the short rib that was paired with the steak had a sauce that was almost gluey. The chocolate dessert had a great flavor but was too sweet. Similar with the coconut macaron, delicious but too sweet. The small caviar addition had delicious components, but the brioche was too thick and not toasted enough so the bite was overpowered by the bread. Wine pairings were solid in general, however the somm and one of the servers always felt like they were in a rush to get away from the table and made me feel a bit rushed during those interactions. Even with those nits I had a great time in a beautiful space and great food. I'd definitely come back again if I'm looking for fine dining in Tahoe.
