La Placette Usseaux Reviews
A wonderful experience. The view is stunning, and the property is stunning. The rooms are clean and truly lovely, located right in the middle of town. The value for money is excellent. Dinner was divine, with delicious food and generous portions. Breakfast was equally as good. The staff is incredibly kind and helpful. I highly recommend it! If I ever return to this area, I'll definitely stay here again.
A fantastic end to the year, a splendid location and a truly enjoyable experience, with extremely comfortable, warm, and inviting rooms, a spa, and impeccable staff. An extra shout-out to Elisa, the owner, who, in addition to her professionalism, demonstrated great willingness in the past to grant us a vacation we booked but canceled the same day due to an unexpected car problem. Thank you for everything, and goodbye!
We visited Usseaux on our way back from a few days of cross-country skiing in the upper valley. The village is truly delightful and "alive," so well-kept, decorated throughout with murals and slates hanging on the walls (and even on the electrical panel doors of the houses!). We booked lunch at the La Placette restaurant (which also serves as a "scattered" hotel) next to the church, and this review is about this establishment. We were welcomed by a large red cat sleeping peacefully in the sun on the stone windowsill outside one of the restaurant's windows. Once inside, we were seated in a large, ancient room with a low vaulted ceiling, typical of the times when heat needed to be conserved and not lost in the winter. A beautiful log burned in the fireplace. We ordered different courses, but naturally, I'll share my own. First, I'll say that the portions are generous. For the appetizer, we had "Occitan Salad," a simple yet flavorful dish made with beetroot (called "la biarava" in the Piedmontese dialect of the plains) and local potatoes, seasoned with light garlic and anchovies (the latter was sparse). Certainly one of the few vegetables that grow at these altitudes, hence its uniqueness. The first course was a spectacular and delicious dish of Usseaux potato gnocchi with fondue. The gnocchi were truly well-made, soft yet firm (often one thing excludes the other), and the fondue was just right. For the second course, we had stewed sausage with taragna polenta. The sausage was excellent, tasty and not greasy: with the taragna polenta, which has its own unique natural creaminess, the combination was perfect. I (we) had a problem with the dessert, which was clearly not a perfect success, but after a friendly discussion, the chef brilliantly resolved the situation. For wine, a carafe of Dolcetto surprised us with its robustness. It seemed more like a Barbera... We'll definitely be back, in warmer weather, to try the other dishes on the menu. The price is fair, considering the quality of the offerings and the evocative beauty of the town.
A restaurant that earns your trust the moment you walk in. The service is warm, straightforward, and refreshingly unpretentious. The food is delicious, homemade, and crafted with quality ingredients. Even the restrooms are spotless and thoughtfully equipped, including a changing table. 😅 This is a place that truly respects its guests, in the little things and on the plate. A delightful surprise, and a spot I wholeheartedly recommend. 👍
A little gem in the mountains – impeccable stay and unforgettable cuisine. We spent two days in this accommodation surrounded by nature, and the experience was simply perfect. The property is meticulously maintained: a spotlessly clean room with a breathtaking view of the mountains. Relaxation reigns from the moment you arrive. The real highlight, however, is the restaurant. Every dish is a surprise, with local ingredients, authentic flavors, and impeccable presentation. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The only flaw was the hot tub, which didn't work. It's a shame. But we'll be back!
La placette in Usseaux is a fabulous place to stay and eat. Mateo's foodwas delicious and authentic to the local area. Do t leave without trying his Tarte tartin 🥰👍
Possibly the best Gnochi in the world! A family run Trattoria that serves an food of exceptional quality in an authentic Italian Alpine village. The quality is above extraordinary and the ambiance is friendly and original. From the welcome to the service nothing is faked! Go and give it a try!
Authentic Piemontese food, cordial service, located in an atmospheric Italian village.
Super!!!
Very relaxing
Great place !
We stayed in one of their apartments. It could not have been better. The apartment is spacious, well equipped, spotless clean, and with a newly renovated bathroom. We had an excellent stay, slept easy, the large bed is very comfortable, and the apartment peaceful. Usseaux is a lovely alpine village. We were pleasantly surprised, the photos cannot make justice. This time I cannot comment on their food, unfortunately, the trattoria was closed the night we stayed. But we are looking forward to eat in next time. We will definitely go back. I recommend with closed eyes.
Really charming restaurant in a typical Piedmont's village. The service is very good. The food is local and delicious. I'd recommend the gnocchi fondue. Overall an excellent experience!
A very quaint little village, a bit difficult to navigate for those with walking difficulties due to the steep paths and uneven pavement, due to the unique architecture of the place. The restaurant is generally good, although the menu remains the same for lunch and dinner, and during the week. The staff, however, is very willing to offer variations on the basic menu upon request. Overall, it's a beautiful place to visit and a pleasant experience, thanks in part to the many murals adorning the area.
The location is very pretty, it's a warm and comfortable place remembering home. About food, I chose the fixed menù and the meal did not satisfy me in taste and in quantity. The staff was nice and disposable.
The two of us arrived at around 1:35 PM on Sunday, August 31st. They told us everything was booked and we couldn't eat. Meanwhile, the tables were becoming free, and we decided to wait a bit. No one showed up! How come you can't find a spot for even a quick bite?! In a tiny village, you can't guarantee a tourist will be able to put a bite to eat! It's certainly not tempting to think about taking a trip to Usseaux like this! Unless you bring a sandwich!!! Shameful!
TOTAL disappointment! We've been there a few times for lunch and had a great time. Today, the tragic discovery: 20 minutes at the table before anyone brought menus, tables seated later were served much earlier, a disaster, zero organization! Potato gnocchi ordered from the menu at full price, and the portion was the smaller one from the tasting menu. Dish of the day: Fillet in blue sauce with side dish, €24 Exaggerating: 100 grams of fillet and 50 grams of vegetables; a third of the fillet was just sinew, and I couldn't eat it. €47 for nothing and a total disappointment. Did they ask at the cashier if everything was okay? The answer was NO, and they replied, "Oh, I'm sorry," without even caring what happened. Never again!
I do not recommend.
