Trattoria La Lum e Il Cassü Varallo Reviews
An excellent culinary experience! Every dish is a delight, so much so that it's impossible to choose a favorite: everything is simply exquisite. The atmosphere is intimate and warm, with an authentic feel reminiscent of old trattorias, where you immediately feel part of the family. Perfect even for those just passing through: an absolutely worthwhile stop. Highly recommended!
Super delicious, fresh food. A very small menu with a choice of 2 or 3 appetizers and 2 or 3 main courses. Friendly service. From the outside, the restaurant doesn't look very appealing. The interior and terrace are okay, but the food is excellent. The price for a single menu is €15.
Found it by chance on Google Maps. It had excellent reviews, and I have to say we were truly pleased. Don't expect a fancy restaurant; I usually avoid them. Here, you can have lunch in a charming wooden outdoor setting just before reaching the sacred mountain of Varallo. Affordable prices and generous portions, but above all, everything was delicious. We had to give up some food because we were so full. Highly recommended, and we'll definitely return.
A small but very welcoming place. The highlight, besides the exceptional dishes (typical Piedmontese), is the very kind lady serving! An atmosphere hard to find elsewhere... definitely one of the places where we've ever eaten better and spent a fair amount! Recommended is an understatement, we hope to return!!!
Generous, good-quality portions, professional service, and a friendly owner who's always available to accommodate guests' requests. We'd already been there on a weekday and had the fixed-price menu, and we were really happy with it. The à la carte menu was the same this time. The restaurant is small and has limited seating inside, but during the spring and summer months, there's an outdoor seating area overlooking the Sesia River. We'll definitely be back.
When you arrive, the place is disconcerting: it looks like little more than a kiosk in an area with sports facilities. Within ten minutes, you'll fall head over heels in love! The lady is incredibly kind, and the dishes are amazing, accompanied by the cool, bubbling Sesia River. The selection is limited (a few appetizers, three first courses, two second courses, and two desserts), but everything is homemade, delicious, and generously portioned for a very reasonable bill. I didn't take photos of the dishes because I only thought so after eating them :) We ordered: a mix of appetizers for two (tongue with salsa verde, lonzino tuna, polenta salad, eggplant tart with gorgonzola cream, and bell pepper fillet in anchovy sauce), a first course (homemade whole-wheat semolina caserecci with zucchini pesto and crispy guanciale), and a second course (braised beef with potatoes). If you're passing by, don't miss this wonderful trattoria. Highly recommended!
Small, welcoming, and feels like home. A few carefully selected, traditional dishes, cooked with passion and love. Good selection of wines and beers. Friendly, knowledgeable, and customer-focused staff. Attention to detail, both in the ambiance and the cuisine. In summer, the outdoor area offers cool refreshments thanks to the proximity to the river. Plus, a small playground for children. Convenient parking behind the tennis courts. To find it, pay attention and follow the signs. Very popular.
Great value for money
I stopped in for lunch on a solo motorcycle trip. The trattoria is near a bowling alley and a small sports center. The first positive note upon entering was a warm greeting with a smile. The place is simple, but well-maintained, tidy and clean (the same goes for the restrooms). The menu for €12 includes a first course, second course, a quarter of wine, half a liter of water, and coffee. The food and atmosphere are on the same level: homey, makes you feel at ease, and the waitress is friendly and serves each course with a smile. Maybe not many people care, but I appreciate it. The dishes are well-cooked, the portions are more than adequate, and the quality/price ratio is excellent. Add to that the fact that I was greeted by name upon leaving... I'll definitely be back; a good excuse for another motorcycle ride.
We stopped by chance but I wouldn't go back, the place inside is nice but small I think it's family run. It was freezing cold and it wasn't very pleasant. There were 10 people inside and we waited 45 minutes to eat. The food is quite good for what you pay but there's no choice, you just have to settle!
Terrible experience – total lack of professionalism I had booked a month in advance, clearly specifying to the owner that it was a very important business lunch with foreign clients. After traveling over 100 km, I found myself facing a closed restaurant, without any warning or communication. No one had the courtesy to notify me, much less answer the phone despite repeated attempts. This was completely inappropriate and unprofessional behavior. I had to quickly find an alternative to avoid making a terrible impression on my guests. The owners demonstrated a total lack of respect and reliability. They don't deserve the trust of their customers.
