MAY KITCHEN + BAR Vashon Reviews
Be prepared to swoon over this restaurant. The food is orgasmic. The atmosphere is dim, intimate, and romantic. There was live guitar music serenading as we dined on gourmet offerings. My wife and I shared the watercress (coated in rice flour and deep fried to crispy perfection) and the twice cooked pork spare ribs (melt in your mouth), along with prawn pineapple fried rice. Their Thai iced tea does not disappoint. The staff is super friendly, knowledgeable, and more than happy to help you select an entre or appetizer. The presentation of the dishes is immaculate. This place really cares about it's food. Definitely get reservations if you have more than 2 people. We sat at the bar and loved it.
Food was excellent. Our group of 4 split 3 appetizers and 3 entrees. The fried watercrest appetizer (yum phak boong) was excellent and a must try. The sauces that went with the vegetable spring roll (papia phat sot) was great. My favorite entree was the green curry. Their special margaritas and martini were also excellent.
Amazing Thai food! Service was friendly and quick. We really enjoyed the Papia Phak sot and the Goong choop bang taud for starters. And for main course we had the Phad Khing Gai which was excellent as well. In addition to the great taste, the food was presented beautifully. For drinks we had the mangosteen and guava nectar. 5 ⭐️ experience!
I sat at the bar for dinner because the restaurant was completely booked. The ambiance is nice, full house but not too loud. My service was great and the food was absolutely incredible. I love Thai food, especially Thom Kha Soup, and this was some of the best I have ever had. We got Thom Kha Soup, Papaya Salad, Thai Holy Basil, and Green Curry. Every single dish was great. I’ll definitely be back again.
It’s very surprising for me that there’s such a great restaurant on an island. Both food and cocktails are amazing and staffs are very friendly. Decorations are very Asian style. Like the margarita there! It’s a better idea to make a reservation before come. I was lucky enough to be arranged a seat at bar very soon, but I’ve seen many people waiting while I left the restaurant.
Always a 5-star experience! The food, service & ambience cannot be beat. Watercress appetizer is a favorite and they’ve got genuine Thai spice levels for those that crave it! Best Phad Thai ever! อร่อย!!!
Oh my goodness...where to start?! First off, get reservations. It's quite popular. The Phad Thai was an experience(order it and see for yourself!) The cocktails were fantastic. My husband loved his Black Manhattan and I loved Monkey Business(rum based). For the appetizers we had the spring rolls, pork and deep fried water cress. All good but the water cress was incredible! Their green and yellow curries are the best I've had. The Trout was cooked to perfection. The red rice was a bit sweet for me, so I'll sick with Jasmine next time (and oh boy, there WILL be a next time!)
May Kitchen was recommended by many of our Seattle friends so we had to make the trip to Vashon to try it. It was incredible! Best Thai food I've had, get their special margarita and their phad Thai, you won't regret it!
A 5 star experience all around. The restaurant was completely booked so we sat at the bar, but it was still quiet enough to have a nice conversation. We got red curry, papaya salad, and pad see ewe, which were all wonderful. Good portion sizes: 1 serving if you're hungry and 2 if you're not too hungry. Lots of vegan, vegetarian, and gluten free options. There is street parking nearby. The servers were friendly, prompt, and helpful. We will be back!
Wow! This place is sooooo good! It gets pretty busy so try to reserve ahead of time, if not, it’s worth the wait! The fried eggplant in lime sauce is incredible. The drinks and mocktails are great. All the staff was so nice. Highly recommend.
Had a lovely experience. Good portions and prices. We had the red and green curry. The green curry was our favourite because it was creamy and the eggplant in it was nothing like we had tasted before. We also had the eggplant appetizer - the onion toppings were so yummy! The mango sticky rice dessert was also good but not a standout. Overall really enjoyed our dinner here and our waitress and hostess/busser were both wonderful. The live guitar music was a cherry on top to it all
Absolutely 5-star Thai cuisine. Some of the best I've ever had and I've eaten Thai food all over the world. One dish after another exceeded expectations. What a treasure May is!
This is by far the best Thai food in the PNW. The watercress appetizer is delicious and crispy. Table side pad Thai is an absolute must. We also love the Thai margaritas, the perfect amount of spice. Great, dark ambiance in the restaurant. One of our favorite go-to’s on the island!
Meal: Dinner Day Visited: Thursday Budget: $35 Closest Station: N/A Reservation Needed?: Yes Payment: Cash; Credit Kid Friendly?: Yes English Menu?: Yes One of the best places for dinner on the island! Service is friendly and the food is good. I never would have thought that I would enjoy a margarita at a Thai restaurant, but I did! Highly recommended!
When you make a reservation 2 days in advance for a special occasion, you should not expect to be seated at a high table. The ambiance is nice but did not match our food expectation. The red curry was good. The Phad Phed Gaeng Dang was ok The squid appetizer was my favorite, but you will get only few pieces. They were very slow on the drinks (you could finish your meal and still be waiting) The spice tray was almost empty and didn’t have the chili paste
Delicious. This was the first Thai place we weren't asked for a spice level preference. Ok! Entrées are marked spicy, but I was afraid to order my usual for fear of upset. The Tom Ka was heavy on the sour but tasty with a late arrival of the heat. We had Pad See Mow and Khao Pad Sapparod both wonderful.
Great place and the best fresh rolls and tamarind dipping sauce I've ever had! Other dishes were good but perhaps a little over seasoned. The flavors were strong and the fish sauce seemed to overpower at times. Loved the phad Thai presentation. Everything was beautifully plated as well. Also, best cloth napkins ever. 😀
Sorry to report we didn’t have a great experience here. We elected to reserve ‘patio’ seating, which actually just seemed like parking spaces cordoned off in the alley. The dishes were pretty good Thai food but they were light on the protein portions & Pad Thai noodles were over-cooked (a bit mushy). Our server was friendly but somewhat inattentive (felt as though the out back seating was lower priority - maybe?). We had to wait quite awhile after flagging him down for a 2nd round of drinks and the meal took a long time overall. If you’re staying in a nice Airbnb nearby, would def. recommend ordering take-out and enjoying at home (or picnic). Nice to have a good option for unique cuisine in the island though.
The fried watercrest appetizer was great - have not seen this in other restaurants and it was delicious. The fried watercrest was crispy and the sweet and sour sauce was amazing - a perfect pair with the watercrest. The main dishes were ok. The recommended stir fried pork and bean as weak as green curry were not bad but nothing to rave about - my wife thinks they both a bit too sweet.
We had a lot of friends and family rave about this place but was not our lived experience. Arrived on time to our dinner reservation for some cozy booth but was told the previous party was still dining and had to wait. Front person asked us to wait at the bar so we did. 20 minutes later there were still not finished and the restaurant we were informed would close 25 minutes after. We asked to be moved to any table to eat. 5 minutes later after moving to a table no water, no menus and waitress asked us what we wanted to eat... Food was just ok, either too sweet or cooked way too long and dry. I would say definitely not authentic. Maybe it was just a bad day for them, ymmv.
