The Brig Venice Reviews
I can't say enough good things about this place. We flew into LA and took a Lyft to a rented house in the area. Our plane was 2 hours late and it was Thanksgiving. We didn't know the area but we were hungry and thirsty and desperate to find any place open. We happened upon the Brig. After explaining our situation the manager, Brian offered us their own Thanksgiving left overs he had brought for his staff. The food was delicious but it was the gesture that was so unexpected. We hung out for awhile and I have to recommend Brian's peach martini.
The Brig in LA exceeded expectations with their impeccably crafted Moscow Mule. From the moment the copper mug touched my lips, I was immersed in a burst of flavors that danced harmoniously on my palate. The combination of vodka, spicy ginger beer, and the zing of lime juice made for a truly refreshing and invigorating cocktail. The balance was just right, with the ginger offering a satisfying kick, while the lime added a citrusy tang that cut through the richness of the vodka. Sipping this cocktail at The Brig was an experience that I'll certainly look forward to repeating. The atmosphere at The Brig was lively and welcoming, providing the perfect backdrop for enjoying the Moscow Mule. The friendly staff ensured a seamless and enjoyable dining experience, adding to the overall charm of the visit. The ambiance was lively, yet not overwhelming, allowing for great conversations and a relaxed atmosphere to unwind after a busy day. The Brig is undeniably a fantastic choice for cocktail enthusiasts seeking a delightful Moscow Mule in a vibrant setting.
On point! Yesssssssss! Celebrating their 70th anniversary, 1952, Wooooooooooo! The vibe in here on a Sunday is 1990s dance / hip hop music meets some 70s/80s club hits, with some current Drake and the like mixed in. Packed as it is, the bartenders are fast! Mixed Drinks are STRONG... 3 second pours. Craft beers run about $8. Food is on point tooo. Someone next to me got what looked like a fried chicken sandwich, and it smelled delish! Great atmosphere. I will be back!!
Great place to grab drinks and watch a ball game or hang afterwards to hang with a good looking crowd
Great bar, went on a weekday and it was a chill atmosphere where you could hear each other talk, but with enough energy to feel lively. The cheesy retro decor and pleather booth seats were charming. I would go back any time.
Amazing bar at night, the patio is huge, good drinks and the staff was so nice! Definitly come back next time I’ll be in LA. I was so in the moment that I forgot to take pictures!!
You don’t go for the food or service because the Brig is just one of those Venice staples that somehow manages to stay cool without trying too hard. Dark, a little gritty, always lively — it’s the kind of place where you stop in for one drink and suddenly it’s two hours later and you’ve met half the neighborhood. Strong cocktails, solid music, and that perfectly unpolished charm that makes it feel real. It’s not pretending to be a lounge, it’s not chasing trends — it’s just The Brig, doing its thing. Crowd is a mix of locals and the occasional confused tourist who lucked into a good decision. Pro tip: Go later in the evening when the music picks up — grab a drink, find a corner, and let Venice happen, especially on the outdoor patio.
What a great bar! Band on Saturday is such a treat. Love how the bartenders don't just serve in one section and instead walk wherever someone needs a drink. They are friendly and pretentiousness! The hotdog beer and chip combo is also a major plus!
Absolutely love the staff. Thursday thru Saturday, place gets wild 10pm to 2am close. Always good time, plenty candy. wade, zach, raul 👌
Amazing! The staff is awesome. Jeff, Rob, Hatt! My new favorite people. I can't wait to come back to visit.
Called in for a quick drink.... Spicy mojito was awesome 👌 Friendly staff and cool vibe
Great new find! Awesome outdoor area right on Abbott Kinney!
Great bar, great staff, great music, great booze on offer.
If Venice had a such thing as a dive bar this would be it. Simply put, a great local bar with awesome drinks and outdoor seating. Love the relaxed energy and everyone is super friendly hanging with friends mostly catching up over drinks
Nice bar. Drinks only, no food but they allow you to bring in outside food so we brought in pizza from down the street. There are two TVs that'll show sports but they seem to turn them off around 9pm to switch the vibe a bit. That was sorta annoying considering I was in the middle of drinking and watching a race but I do understand why they'd do it. Overall a nice place to get a drink on Abbot Kinney. Also they have a pool table and tons of outdoor space.
Saw an amazing band here on a Tue night. It was a good crowd and the service was good. I didnt have to wait too long for. a drink. Competition to get on the pool table looked very intense. Not for casual players, in my opinion.
I never write reviews - ever - but I have to go out of my way and say that the security/bouncers at this bar were PHENOMENAL. My friends and I gave them the smallest inkling we were feeling unsafe due to some of the other patrons... and they took us seriously immediately, protected us, walked us to our rideshares, and made sure we weren't bothered even one more time after we told them about the person being a problem. My sincerest THANK YOU! You are good men!! <333 (P.S. THIS is the kind of stuff that makes people want to come back to an establishment. :) 5 stars.)
I spilled my full drink like a spaz and the bartender replaced it on the house. I couldn’t believe it—I was mainly concerned about getting a wet rag to clean up the mess I’d made! Small acts of kindness make a big difference. 🙏
Best bar that is named the brig that I’ve ever been to
One of the best places for drinks and hotdogs specifically I’ve ever been ! Nicest hot dog ever happy hour is great too staff and vibes are great too would highly recommend if you’re looking for a good time and lovely people
The brig is a classic. This spot is old, grimy, and always popping 😂💕 I’ve been here on many occasions. Let’s just say I’m very drunk when I’m here. I love the bouncers here and their martinis are strong. You have to check out the brig if you’re in LA. I think last year was their 75th anniversary 😝 PS I don't think they have food here.
Checked out this cool little bar and had a great time. The place was crowded, but still easy to enjoy the atmosphere. There was only one bartender and one bouncer working that night, so service could be a bit slow at times, but the bartender handled it well. The drink selection was solid, with a good variety of cocktails, and prices were fairly reasonable. Parking was a bit challenging since it’s mostly street parking. Overall, a fun spot worth checking out.
Decent place with a large outdoor patio-style seating (benches and tables) area. Portable outdoor heaters and a food truck (outdoors, but within the establishment's fenced in area). Great spot for meeting and socializing with friends or strangers.
Cozy bar with a small, but good, selection of craft beers.
Overall the atmosphere was upscale in feeling. Bouncer interaction was unappealing, at best. Quickly left after I discovered that while the live music and atmosphere was upscale and enjoyable, I couldn’t justify frequenting this establishment or recommendation it to a friend unless I was slightly more baller in appearance. But sadly I had just gotten off work from the restaurant I work at, and found that it was not acceptable.
Came here on July 4th and the place was packed. Plenty of cocktails and beers to choose from and the decor of the place is pretty cool and welcoming. They were constantly playing Reggaeton that night so we had a really good time! Only issue was the short latino bartender. Extremely condescending and rude, while all others were really nice. All in all a pretty good bar if you're around the area
Bar tenders are always great, and the cocktails are inventive while the drafts on tap offer a little something for everybody. I’ve had plenty of fun times here—both single, and as part of a couple. I do think it’s a better day drinking spot than a nighttime experience, however, and the beer comes in a glass noticeably less than 16 oz for the same price as your typical pint.
Solid draft list in a cute space that stops just short of being overly pretentious and loud. They have a pretty decent draft list as well as fun cocktails, though I was sad when my Paloma did not come with a rim.
Cute little bar! Great service, interesting regulars at the bar! Best part is the owner is the bouncer & he thanks you as you leave. Great spot for a quick drink before a show next door at the Pantages.Photo of Frolic Room - Los Angeles, CA, United States
Cool local bar, used to be a lot different back in the day. Sort of a hipster crowd but very mellow and laid back. Music is usually pretty good. Bar can be slow service. Usually packed on weekends. Halloween is very interesting here.
Solid place for drinks. Had a loungey feel to it. Centrally located on Abbot Kinny close to Venice Blvd. Open late. Not pretentious. Will go again.
The Place is buzzing, losts of young professionals/entertainment industry people having good fun. Bar tenders are busy all the time, drinks are decent but for the price I would expect the quality of the ingredients to be a bit better..
Bartenders are kinda rude and the drinks are pricey but great music Parking is hard too I suggest you Uber
I expected more when I heard about this bar. I thought it would be unique since it's on Abbott Kinney, but I was not very impressed. It was so crowded in the bar that it was hard to move. Normally this is a fact that you have to come to terms with when you go to a bar, but it just seemed too small for the crowd. Also, not enough AC in the place to keep it cool. I probably would've enjoyed it more if I had more alcohol in me. People were dancing which was fun, but once again too small of a dance floor to really even enjoy it. Tip: go at the end of the night, not to start off your night.
The bar was really crowded for the size and the bartender was kind of rude/snarky. Overall did not have a good time.
Rude bartender.... I don't get it, why doesn't the owner see these reviews and replace the staff. There are a lot of great people out there who would love to work with people. The concept is great, just replace the staff that is rude.
Great place but bartenders kinda rude. Kindly asked to change a blow out game to the CU game that was ultimately won on the last play. Wasn’t given a real response and just shrugged off. Not mad because it’s not a real sports bar, but frustrated bc not respected as a person.
Be careful ladies - I live in the area and do love this place but I will never go again. I have been roofied here 2 times now!! Watch your drinks. Both cases luckily I only had one drink and realized I started feeling weird so immediately left - Friends helping me make it home safely. It is scary and I truly no longer feel comfortable going to this place. I know other girls who have had the same issues also. Please just watch your drinks and don’t trust anyone there.
This place gets 0 stars. We were there on saturday and the bartenders were so rude and disrespectful. There was one female bartender in specific that was being so rude and racial. This behavior should not be accepted especially being in a public environment. If you dont like your job you should not take it out on customers. I have a video of her actions but have decided not to make it public yet. The place is not bad but the bartender made this place go down in ratings due to their service. TERRIBLE
The bartender with the red shirt tonight skipped over me 5 times. The last guy she served next to us explained that we were there before him and she physically waved us off and took care of him first. My first round I tipped her 20% for a shot and a beer. So I don’t know where he malice towards me came from I understand it was busy but we were friendly and patient. As a bartender myself, at thigh volume bar that attitude would get me a write up. Super rude and unwelcoming. We won’t be going back
Myself and at least 7 others had their phones/wallets stolen. It looks like there's a group that goes and target girls. Don't go unless you want to be pickpocketed.
Terrible experience! Took all my friends for a night out and the bouncer refused to let me in. Said I wasn’t 5’6, took off my shoes and even encouraged him to measure me. He refused, hard to believe it wasn’t because I wasn’t American 🙄😒
Bartender gave my credit card to another customer. Had to ask several times for them to wipe my $40 bill, which seemed like the least they could do. The manager promised several times to follow up the next day but never did. The person they gave my card to ran up charges on it. Spent hours on the phone to get it resolved and don't have a credit card for a week.
the bartenders here are extremely disrespectful to women - my friends and I will never come here again ❤️ and 2 of my friends got their phones stolen out of their purses in the same night here. And the music is whack and everyone in there looks 19. If you want to go somewhere fun and chic there are manyy better options. also my mediocre tequila soda was $28. I never write reviews but was actually appalled at this place lol
Horrible establishment. Horrible everything. I never leave reviews but this establishment bothered me. My girl got pick pocketed and i as well Walked in with a party of 4+ and walked up to the bartender, (long hair dude) ordered me and my girl a drink (2 doubles of tequila shots) he charges me and keeps my card then leaves and comes back which then I ask for my card and he throws it to me and aggressively demands me to pay for the drinks which I already had paid (90$ including tip) and my friend pays once more the same price trying to de-escalate the situation because we are being loud towards each other. He gets charged $90 as well, bartender comes back and demands me to pay once more and says I better figure it out so I pull out my bank statements to show him payment went through and he goes to the cash register “trying to figure it out” but takes my credit card once more and he comes back saying “I must have ordered that a long time ago or snuck in” which then I say “ill call the bouncer cause he just let me in so you better give me my drinks or my cash” which he proceeds to say stop yelling at me and say it nicely or you’ll get nothing” . Never got my money back nor did my friend nor even an apologies. Overall experience was horrible, I will not recommend an establishment with poor service and management. would never return. The entire experience was bad and that’s all to the long hair bartender.
I really like this place but the bartenders fraudulently added themselves an extra $15 dollar tip on my card. I’d imagine they are doing this to others so watch your credit card statements.
Alex dragged me into the mens bathroom approximately 11:45 PM (check the cameras). Told me to compare the smell in the men’s bathroom womans. I told him I don’t need to use the men’s restroom. I can use the woman’s. He insisted that he wanted feedback on how disgusting the men’s bathroom smelled. He wouldn’t let me out until I gave him the feedback. it wasn’t what he wanted and then he asked Security to escort me out. It was super uncomfortable and inappropriate and I was a woman I do not feel comfortable returning to this bar. Alex should be reprimanded.
One of my first experiences at a bar in Venice and it was horrible. The bouncer didn’t let me in because I looked like another Asian person that was apparently banned at the establishment? The only reason he gave me at the door was that I looked like this other Asian… I couldn’t believe what I was hearing and it absolutely ruined the night for everyone I was with. Would not recommend to anyone in the area, and I seriously couldn’t believe how racist this establishment was.
Good luck getting a drink here. Too many complicated drinks and bartenders who are “over it.” Avoid this place on the weekends and maybe altogether.
