Aurora Sausalito Reviews
Delicious food and very friendly staff. Both the pasta and pizza we ordered were well done and full of flavors. They accommodate any additions or subtractions from the dish with a smile. Adequately priced too!
I had a wonderful time here on Valentine's. They were packed but honored my reservation on time. There were only three servers but they managed well with more than 20 tables all filled. Food was great for the price (it's not a Michelin 3 star restaurant, duh!).
Amazing pizza!!! Fresh ingredients and quick service. The patio facing the road is serenity redefine. It's a super chill and quiet neighborhood with great views and houses on the hill. Great stop on the bike ride to Muir Woods.
Quiet little place. Prices are a bit higher than other places, but not exuberant. The food speaks for itself, so the price is justified. The staff is always friendly and attentive, but won't constantly bug you, which is great for romantic occasions. A+ place with pastas made from scratch and delicious fish and daily dishes.
Took the fam here for dinner and had a terrific experience. The food was great, staff was very attentive and atmosphere was perfect. I had the chicken Parm and it was the best I've had in a long time. We started with the Zucchini Fritti, and the the family had the prosciutto & arugula pizza, a pepperoni pizza, the ravioli, tiramisu and the bread pudding; all were excellent. I'd highly recommend this place.
Being gluten free, this was a fantastic find. Took a minute to figure out parking (it's underneath) but what a fantastic little place. Great food (I tried a gluten free pizza with smoked salmon on it, by the waiters recommendation), nice views and wonderful service.
One of the best gluten free pizza I've ever had! The Pizza al Salmone was so delicious and flavorful. They have an extensive gluten free menu and the ambience is so amazing. It's a little off the main strip so there it's not as crowded but still has beautiful views and was a wonderful experience!
Nice Italian restaurant tucked into a quiet neighborhood in Sausalito. Walking distance from downtown. People often ride bikes as there is bike parking also. Food and atmosphere are great. We had the Caesar Salad, Ravioli Formaggio and Fettuccine Alfredo with chicken. On the Ravioli I had the pink sauce which is a combo of the red sauce and Alfredo sauce. Everything was delicious. The wait staff is very nice and make the ambience very nice also.
It wasn't crowded when we got there. Servers were very attentive. Food was good. More people came in as we were finishing up. There is parking under/below the restaurant. I felt It was very nice of them to warn us that in there had been car break-ins. We took our chances as there was no parking available the street nearby. Car was untouched when we got back.
Excellent Italian food. Some of the best Italian food I have tasted. The chicken parmigiana was superb. Dessert was amazing with the creme brûlée. Perfect amount of food with amazing service. We will definitely be back. We were visiting from Utah. First time here but hopefully not the last. Well done. Caesar was very friendly and helpful with his recommendations.
This was a pleasant surprise. The ambience and location suggest your average neighborhood Italian family restaurant. But the service was old-style (i.e., impeccable) and the food just excellent. Each and every item shows that the chef is taking loving care. This approaches Michelin star quality. I am from San Jose and don't get that often to Sausalito. But the price/quality ratio might cause me to consider skipping San Francisco and crossing the bridge for the occasional special dinner at Aurora Sausalito. This is not the place to impress your first date (the ambience is too generic) but it would be a good place to impress your gourmet friend, especially if they are fond of Italian cuisine.
Amazing gluten free pasta! Delicious and authentic. Felt comfortable eating there as coeliac. Starter came at basically same time as main, but the quality and taste of the food was fantastic! Friendly staff too. Great to sit outside on the terrace.
Lovely place! We loved it. The attention is very nice and unique 👌 they make you feel at home. And the food, it's delicious. It was our first time in San Francisco, in Sausalito and in this restaurant, and we were delighted. Ah, I have forgotten to share info of the price, we don't spend a lot of money, the prices are excellent 😀
The owners are super kind and the service is wonderful. The food is really good and the place is super clean. Our family enjoyed eating there. The lasagna was delicious and the pizza is fresh and delicious too
Having just landed from a cross country flight our group was starving. We were lucky to find this place with affordable and tasty food served by really nice staff.
The staff was excellent! The food was amazing, several times I had to slow down to enjoy ever bite! Seriously THAT good. I finished my plate, some pizza, a dessert and a coffee before relaxing and dancing a little by our table. The place is amazing and I hope to go back often.
Great vegetarian options. The food is super fresh - it’s refreshing. We tried the bruchessta, fettuccini Alfredo (they were kind enough to accommodate our request to add veggies), Ortalano Pizza. The wine options and dessert were great as well.
We had the calamari, pizza and spaghetti. Food is very good and service is excellent. Quaint atmosphere with open space and good views.
Truly excellent food and great service! My family ate here after a day spent in the area and happened by this homey restaurant. We're so glad we stopped by, as everything was cooked to perfection with just the right seasoning. I had the salmon with a light white wine cream sauce, and the fish and vegetables were sooooo good. Most of the rest of the family had their homemade lasagne, and they agreed it was the best they've had in a long time.
I stopped here for lunch while on one of the many bike tours that passes through the area. Sitting out on the patio and enjoying views of beautiful Sausalito was a great experience. The waiter helped convince me to get the lasagna, and it didn't disappoint. I would definitely recommend stopping here while on a bike ride or any occasion.
Fresh tasting food! Waiter is friendly and full of life!
Arrived late after our flight, around 8:30 knowing that they close at 9. The waiter was so wonderful didn't rush us and the food was fantastic. Had the lasagna special and carbonara, beef carpaccio and bruschetta. Felt like our own neighbourhood spot, will definitely be back when we're in the area.
True old line Italian restaurant. Delicious food, very generous portions, professional and friendly staff. Many things on the menu to warrant return visits. Linguine alla pescatore filled with perfectly cooked seafood, including large shrimps, with linguine meant to compliment, not be the main ingredient.
I love Aurora's. I often go when I want good Italian food in a very comfortable, neighborhood environment. Everyone there is great
This place was legit! We spent the day at the Bay Area discovery museum and were starving after doing a full day of going hard. We googled an Italian place, and landed here. We showed up with a truckload of kids, and a total of 16 people in our party (4 adults, and 12 kids under 10). Walking in, we realized we had a bit more energy than the restaurant was tailored for, but everyone was super kind and sweet; both the staff as well as the other guests. Food was incredible, super fun and intimate atmosphere, and food was relatively affordable for the experience and quality ingredients. Did I mention, an Italian place with gluten free options?! The staff took great care of us, we had an awesome night, and the few adults all agreed we “scored” and talked about how good all of choices were! Thanks for a fun and memorable evening! We’ll be back, but maybe with a few less kids. Or maybe not! Thanks for having a great restaurant! Post covid, I feel like it’s hard to find the “experiences” that make it fun to eat out . This was it!
My daughter's school celebrated an event here tonight and they were wonderful! We tried the fettuccine alfredo, pepperoni, and veggie pizza and it was all delicious!
Food is great, service is hit or miss. Atmosphere is cozy. We keep coming back.
Great food and service. We came for dinner and had the caprese, pappardelle bolognese, chicken parm, and the bread pudding. Everything was delicious! Caprese was fresh, the pappardelle noodles were homemade, the chicken parm was flavorful and not overly breaded, and the bread pudding was decadent with a perfect combination of caramel, ice cream, and walnuts. Above all, the owner always greeted us with a smile, and his staff are so friendly and attentive. Eat here and support a local business!
This restaurant is worth a visit for its prime location! I enjoyed the jokey conversation with the server as much as I had enjoyed the food! The bruschetta was fresh, and the Ravioli di Aurora was full of such subtle flavors! The structure of the pasta was firm, and held the flavors really well. The creme brulee had an extremely enjoyable, creamy custard base. I was expecting the affogato in a glass, but I enjoyed the combination of ingredients in a bowl too.
Really nice premises- the staff was very friendly and the food was excellent ! The lasagna had a unique flavor and it is definitely worth trying . We came to visit from Orlando FL and definitely will come back to Aurora ! Update - we went back this April - the place was being remodeled and was not quite complete - the menu varied slightly from our first visit - the food was as good as our first visit …
The pizza was perfect, very fresh, perfect crisp, and thin crust. The ravioli was amazing as well. The sauce was creamy with mushrooms and sun dried tomatoes. The artichokes went well with the sauce. I usually don't like artichokes, but this was an exception. Overall, a pleasant experience. Parking is hard to find though.
Loved loved loved the place. The bread was so so soft . We tried the veggie pizza, which was really good, but the memorable food was the eggplant starter and the gnocchi in pesto. Their pesto is to die for! For desserts, their bread pudding was really the best way to end the brunch
Absolutely incredible place. Love the ambience. The food is high quality, delicious. The veggies for the side dish are fresh and perfectly prepared. I had the eggplant Parmesan, my companion had the spaghetti arriabata, both scrumptious. We then had a creme brûlée and tiramisu for dinner, just luscious. My favorite place to eat in Sausalito.
First. Ride bicycles across the bay bridge. Unreal. As you enter Sausalito the code is undeniable. You’ll find some of the most amazing places to eat. One of the first that you’ll pass is this place. Stop. You’re not missing something better further along. Everything was so fantastic. Homemade pasta, sauce, soup, bread, etc…
We brought our wine, $25 corkage, fab pasta bolognase, great server
I can only say great things about this place. We came in right before closing without expecting them to serve us and they were so welcoming and great 🤍 The fettuccine alfredo were the best pasta I’ve had in the US so far and everybody else loved their food. The tiramisu was spectacular. Will come back next time I’m in town!
I want to share about a restaurant in Sausalito where I’ve already become a regular. It’s such a wonderful place — located right on Main Street, just the very first exit after crossing the Golden Gate Bridge (Alexander Exit). The area is quiet, close to the waterfront, but without tourists, crowds, or lines. The food is authentic homemade Italian, with traditional recipes. We tried the pizza — both prosciutto and seafood. The crust was thin, crispy, and delicious. One pizza is perfect for two. We also had pasta with seafood and shrimp — absolutely delicious. But the dessert deserves a special mention. We had the tiramisu with espresso, and it was simply unreal! I’ve tried tiramisu in many cafés in Sausalito, but the very best one is right here at Aurora Restaurant. I also really enjoyed the shrimp with vegetables and mashed potatoes — light, healthy, yet incredibly tasty, full of Italian charm. Their wine list is impressive, with a wide selection of wines that are carefully paired with the dishes. Very tasty, high-quality, and reasonably priced. The service is excellent and very friendly. Another bonus is the private parking right under the restaurant, so you never have to search for a spot. Overall, I highly recommend this place. Cozy atmosphere, amazing food, and I know I’ll keep coming back again and again.
Amazing place that offers elegance, comfort and ambiance. The staff was attentive and knowledgeable, our server was well-versed in the menu, wines, and other offerings, and made great recommendations. He recommended a pasta and prawns made with a special homemade sauce, not on the menu, and it was amazing. Can’t wait for the next time I go to Sausalito.
This is such a cute little cafe. I was able to sit outside on their patio area, and I enjoyed the fresh air just as much as the fresh food! The staff was friendly and I enjoyed my meal. I tried the Margherita Pizza, and I must say, I loved the fresh basil mixed with the drizzle of olive oil! Can't wait to come back and try again! Parking is underneath restaurant or any free spot on street.
First time at this restaurant very nice experience. Had a long day with a group of friends from a hike and beach day so we were hungry. Very good service and food. Definitely nice ambience with great views to outside. Lighting was low but had these very unique table lights to provide lighting onto the table without over powering.. any way we got different dishes ravioli, spaghetti calamari. Sounded like everyone pretty much enjoyed just overheard some dishes were spicy and they didn’t expect that. I got the ravioli polio very creamy soft and nice amount of spices/veggies mixed in. Definitely recommend.
Every time I'm in Sausalito, I stop at this place. The absolute best food for the best price. You will not be disappointed at all. Rent your bike in San francisco. Do the bike trail across the Golden Gate bridge and take the ferry from Sausalito back to SF. BUT!!!! Before you go...stop here. The menu is to die for and worth every penny you pay. It's cheaper than what you'd pay in SF, and it's better quality. I stop here EVERY TIME! Please tell them Haley sent ya. You can thank me later. What a sweet hidden gem this place is.
We just had a very delicious dinner! The food was great, and you could taste the quality in their ingredients. The ambience was very lovely, I even ended up buying their table lamps on Amazon because I really liked them. It would’ve been a better time for us, if it wasn’t for the treatment we received from their staff. Overall, a place to have a beautiful and delicious dinner.
Great Italian dishes, made fresh to order. Beautiful location near the sea (steps across the street), free underground parking. They were busy with lots of orders at lunch time, so the wait was longer than expected but the quality and taste of dishes worths the wait! Good portion sizes for the price.
This Sausalito eatery is a cozy and welcoming Italian spot located on the outskirts of downtown, offering easy parking and even a few designated spaces for restaurant-goers. For lunch, my dining companion and I split the eggplant appetizer and mushroom pizza. To my pleasant surprise, the eggplant's sharp cheese added a unique and enjoyable flavor profile. The mushroom pizza was tasty but nothing out of the ordinary. The two dishes made for a perfect pre-hike meal. While the restaurant wasn't crowded during our visit, the service was a bit slow. Nonetheless, we appreciated the chance to savor our food at a leisurely pace. For a quick bite, though, we'd opt for a different spot.
Easy to get to if you biked across the Golden Gate and are spending time in Sausalito because it's on the way down into the main part of town. Also, since it is not on the main street it's a nice, quieter part of Sausalito. Another plus is the bike parking to leave and lock your bike, and it's a short ride from here to the downtown area if you still want to visit after eating. The food was great! Italian with fresh seafood, so a little pricey, but overall great. The white sauce light and not too heavy and pasta handmade. Also, the waiters made a great impression, were attentive even though very busy and very kind with our large group. We had a group of nine and the wait for our food did take over 30 minutes for just the appetizers and salads, but there was bread and water. The main courses took almost an hour, so that wasn't great, but we did have a large group. Also, they don't split checks and add the tip for groups 7 and up. Overall a great experience to an already awesome day. -A
Loved this gem of a restaurant. Best of all was the wine.. we were cycling so had just a glass each..ordered a Chianti..sadly, I can't remember which one! A delicious wine that suited our pizza perfectly, AND best of all, was served at the perfect temperature. Perfectly chambré'd! Staff were really welcoming and yet efficient.. Visiting from Ireland, I'd go back like a shot if I were ever in San Francisco again! Now if I could only remember the name of the wine!!.....
Their bread is amazing, just dip it on evoo and balsamic or enjoy it by itself. I ordered the carbonara and it was ok, but the pizza had lot of flavor and their dough is crispy and tasty. They have a really good service, and the perfect location if you are starving from cycling over the bridge
The food was fantastic. The service was wonderful as well. They need to do something about how warm it gets inside the restaurant. Maybe a fan or something to get a cross Breeze. There is no kids menu, but you can definitely make a kids dish if you look at the menu and separate things on it carefully. Such as, I ordered the chicken parmesan with no sauce and no cheese for one of my kids. By the time I gave it to him, he thought it was chicken strips with mashed potatoes on the side. And he loved it
Decent location. Close to the downtown. Good food. Service was excellent!
Calamari Fritti 5 fried, super crispy, fresh, juicy, chewy, marinara sauce Turkey 3 tender, juicy, not dry, plain steamed vegetables, plain mashed potatoes, stuffing just crouton, not flavorful, gravy not flavorful Ravioli di Gamberi (Prawns Ravioli) 4 triple sec sage, cream sauce, cherry tomatoes, super creamy, not too soft, juicy filling
The food quality was good but extremely salty. Ordered Parmigiano plate and could not finish it due to excess salt. Pizza was fresh with an in-house baked crust but had too much added oil. Standard service and a cozy local environment.
Aurora Sausalito - Ristorante: an okay spot for Italian food. While the views of the Bay are stunning, the pasta dishes and service were just average. Not a bad choice, but not particularly memorable either - decent for a casual night out.
Nice place, parking is a little difficult. It didn't seem open when we walked in and there was no music on. They turned it on after we ordered our meals. Food was pretty flavorful. The water was great and chilled in a bottle. Salads were amazing. Pizza was great but a little over done and had some thin burnt areas. Who serves spaghetti without a piece of garlic bread with it? They do that here. A bit disappointed. We actually chose this place (Italian) to get some bread, over Cheesecake Factory down the road, where you get tons of bread. Bad decision. The waiter hovered over us when it was time to pay, that was sort of strange. Just a little different of a place but flavorful.
Really cute and cozy place. The staff was really nice and welcoming. I liked the food. I had the fettuccine alfredo with chicken. It was not heavily seasoned, but it was still pretty good. My husband really enjoyed the bruschetta. Nice environment, good music and it had a decent/partial view of the bay. Parking is a little limited though. Highly recommend.
We had been here before one other time, which IMO had a pretty good carbonara! Fast forward to Father's day apparently they updated the whole menu with Father's day specials which meant no carbonara, bummer! Being we were in the area and knew how good the dish was we opted to stop by and check Aurora out again, almost want to say it was a mistake! Re read our order to the waiter 3 times and still got our kids food wrong when it came out. Food around this time was ok, really wanna give this place another chance but definitely not going out of our way to go here again next time.
The portion sizes are not very equal to other items on the menu. My wife got a spaghetti and I got a ravioli meal more expensive. She has a full plate, and I got 9 ravioli pasta, covered in sauce, but it was nothing compared to what she got! The menu should tell the customer the sizes that should be expected. The waiter was really awkward as well. He didn't stop by the table enough when we needed him, but when we didn't need him he was on top of us......
I Iike to eat local no matter which area we are in, and I was excited to try this restaurant. It was empty when we walked in, and I found that rather odd since it was around 5 pm on a Friday evening. The server was kind and prompt, suggested a meal that we could share - as we didn't have a cooler or means to take leftovers back to our hotel. We decided on the margherita pizza. The pizza was good, but nothing spectacular. What I found the most disturbing, is the $2 fee per patron, to help offset the wage charges. The owners need to either build that fee into their already inflated food prices, or they just need to pay their employees more - without having the consumer foot that bill! If they're unable to pay their employees more, they need to rethink their business plan, and find other ways to cut back. Less garnishments, and less lemon in the water, were just two of the ways I noticed they could cut back. I can honestly say this restaurant was a "one and done" for us.
GPS took us through a tour of residential Italy with very narrow streets before arriving at the restaurant. parking was difficult only to realize the restaurant has its own parking around the corner and under the restaurant. waiter decided to clean all the dirty tables before taking our order; customer service suggest the opposite should happen. we watched him at least 5 minutes as he cleaned. I started sweating inside with no air conditioning. 3 meals, all undersized, came out to $90 with a 15%tip. the location is in beautiful and scenic Sausalito and the waiter was nice.
Upscale Italian restaurant in Sausalito with a standard menu of pastas, pizzas, and other Italian foods. Cheesy garlic bread - warm, savory cheesy on a toasted bread with a tomato dip that melts in your mouth. Minestrone - savory soup that tastes as you expect. It had little pieces of pasta in it. Margherita pizza - the tomato sauce was slightly sour, the dough/crust was mediocre (kinda like fast food pizza dough ngl), and the basil was lacking. However, the cheese and oil drizzle was on point and saved the dish. The crust was done well with a soft inside and crusty exterior. Kinda disappointed at the taste of the food here. I’ve had a decent amount of Italian food before and this just was sub-par. The restaurant was very clean and service was friendly but the food didn’t live up to the rating.
The food is good, but portions are small for the price. The restaurant sits in a quiet corner away from the hustle bustle if Sausalito, and without an ocean view, but prices itself more like an ocean view tourist restaurant. Service was very good and friendly, restaurant nice and clean. All the dishes tasted good, I'd recommend penne seafood. The veal scallopini was also good but portion was rather on the small side.
This kind of service sucks. the food is alright while the service is not. we got told happy hour starts 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm. when we started ordering it was around 5:30 pm and the lady told us happy hours contain 10% off drinks and the whole order even without buying drinks. the lady soon left and a server refused to give the happy hour discount. we left at 7:05 pm BUT WE STILL ORDERED AT 5:30 PM WHICH IS A HAPPY HOUR TIME. the lady told us we had the best server in town but it felt quite the opposite. WE INCLUDED 0 TIP SINCE HE TOOK ME AND MY FRIENDS 10% LITERALLY AS A TIP OF HIS OWN. WE ASKED TO SEE THE MANAGER BUT HE LOOKED IN OUR EYES, LIED AND SAID “no manager” after we payed he looked happy and all with a smile on his face saying “thank you thank you” i do not recommend going.
I'm a neighbor and would love to like this place. It's local and the service is friendly. However, the food I've ordered has been blah (pizza) to OK (pasta, salad) and the prices are comparable to nearly restaurants with views or better food. With quality food or even just one great pizza or salad, I'd be there regularly. Instead, my husband and I walk the extra distance to other options.
My family and I came here for a special Christmas Eve dinner. We were a party of 9 and looking forward to the experience. Boy was it not. It started off with them not having ingredients for their seafood dishes even though we were part of the first wave of guests at 6 PM. Then we waited and waited for our food. It wasn't coming out. We watched as other guests get seated and served. We continued to wait. Multiple check-ins with the waiter only resulted in "Sorry. It'll be 20 more minutes." Multiple 20 minutes passed. Each time we checked in with the waiter, he said, "I'm sorry. Would you like more bread?" We checked with the owner who said the kitchen lost our ticket and it'll be another 20 minutes. That was news to our waiter. When our food finally came out (pizza and pasta) exactly 2 hours from when we sat down, you could tell everything was just thrown together. Spaghetti arribiatta had no spice. It tasted like a kid's pasta and tomato sauce dish. My eggplant parm was a layer of mush covered in sauce. We finally left at 8:30 PM to finish our Christmas Eve celebration. My biggest question is "how can this had happened? How can they continue to fail rather than correct the situation?" It was like they didn't care. That was the most disappointing thing about this experience.
HORRIBLE SERVICE!!! Had to wait about 5 minutes to even be seated when the restaurant was empty. And multiple staff was around. After asking for a table and getting seated another 10 minutes went by before someone brought water. We were really hungry and excited for some Italian food but yet another 10 minutes went by and nobody came to take our order. Even noticed my water had a fly in it. Had to walk off as the staff didn’t care even after bringing this to their attention. Would not recommend!!!
The staff are great. The prices they hold against your neck are not. It felt like being robbed and spat on; for 26 whole dollars you'd expect to get a full plate of food, but no, instead you get 8 measly pieces of ravioli strewn out across a plate that's too small to even hold the tweezers you'll be eating with. They didn't even have any pizza, and remember, this is toted as a "pizzeria." What a great introduction to the Bay Area!
78$ for 2 small salads and the worst app I've ever had, cold rolled up eggplant slice with cold hard matzarella cheese shreds inside. Thumbs down. Eww. I felt like I got ripped off!!👎
Someone called me from the restaurant at 10:38 am. I had been at a Sausalito restaurant earlier in the week - but did not recognize that name, thought maybe it was another name for restaurant ownership, so when I saw it in my missed calls, I called back. What followed was an extremely rude and dismissive person who refused to find out why I had been called - maybe I left something? - and said they don't open until noon. Yes, but staff are THERE earlier setting up, right? So who called? He then hung up on me, and when I tried to call back, they took the phone off the hook. Extremely unprofessional.
I went here for Christmas Eve dinner. Amazing location and atmosphere was alright. However, their gnocchi was unforgettable (NOT in a good way). Afterwards, I felt nauseous and that pasta was by far the worst i’ve had. As an Italian, this is not REAL Italian food. Another thing is the service. We had a plate full of water sitting there for about 20 mins until it was taken away. I kept noticing waiters walking by staring at it. Plus, they forgot our order and we had to re-order all of the food.
HORRIBLE waiter, the service was embarrassing. Only us and one table yet horrible service. Food was great, but the waiter never came by to our table till the bill. Never came to ask how's food until tab, never came to get a refill, took forever to get us a table in an empty restaurant. 20 dollar tip with horrible service. He seemed like a nice guy, but he never came by to the table. He basically did nothing besides bring the bill. Nice restaurant, good food and poor service.
