Cantarito Cocina Y Bar South Lake Tahoe Reviews
Our first time in Tahoe, glad our friend told us about this gem. Family run and warm service. The food however was well… INSANELY GOOD! Don’t miss the 🥭🌶️ Marg and the Elote! Fajitas were lick the plate-worthy and churros come out piping hot. Inside tip: ask for the Chile de Arbol oil. If you like deep Mexican flavor, this is the 💣. Was impressed x will be back!!
The best Mexican/Latin food meal and Spicy Mango Margarita I’ve ever had hands down! My wife and I had the Chimchurri Carne Asada and the Diablo Camarones…Surf and Turf! Oh My God…Heaven. My wife had a watermelon Fresca to offset the heat from the Diablo shrimp….Chef’s Kiss! Sorry for the 1/2 drank Spicy Mango Margarita pic…but it was so damn good!
First-time customer. The party of 2. There was no wait at the bar. Sat at the bar waited a little longer than I felt we should have waited since no one was at the bar. The waitress was nice. The hibiscus margarita was delicious. Definitely recommend it. The chips and salsa are pretty good. Definitely would go back for drinks.
Friendly staff, service was great and food served quickly. The nachos were delicious. I haven’t had great nachos in a very long time. Highly recommend!
The Real Deal is Cantarito Cocina Y Bar which delivers on amazing tacos! First, the service was solid, friendly and upbeat. Second, the atmosphere very well-done Mexican decor and paintings, lighting and bar area were done exceptionally well. On to the Important Part: The Food! The Carne Asada Tacos was delicious homemade corn tortilla bigger than a regular street taco and the meat flavor was pretty good I would ask for a little more but with the toppings everything comes together great 8.5/10. The Shrimp Grilled Taco was great, well done completely with homemade corn tortilla 8.5/10. The Fish Taco was delicious as well 9/10. Overall, great place for tacos and drinks! They do not have homemade flour unfortunately, I asked if wandering. I will give it a try again for another update…
Wow 😁Cantarito Cocina Y Bar is an absolute treasure! From the moment I stepped in, I felt the lively, welcoming energy. But the real star of the show was the aguachile. It’s honestly some of the best I’ve ever tasted: unbelievably fresh shrimp, a perfect kick of heat, and bright, zesty flavors that explode in every bite. It’s the kind of dish you keep thinking about long after you’ve left! And let’s talk about the beer selection — crisp, ice-cold, and the perfect companion to the spicy aguachile. I tried a couple of different Mexican brews, and each one paired beautifully with the food. The staff is super friendly and attentive, and the whole place has a vibrant vibe that makes you want to stay for hours. If you’re looking for incredible seafood, refreshing drinks, and an all-around fantastic dining experience, run, don’t walk, to Cantarito Cocina Y Bar!
We have walked by this restaurant so many times, and never tried it. We finally did and wished we would have sooner. This was an excellent place to eat. The staff was friendly, food was delicious and great atmosphere. Defiantly recommend coming in and seeing for yourself.
When looking for legit mexican food while in Lake tahoe. Definitely come to cantaritos! This place has fresh torts, great service! Wonderful atmosphere. Easy to walk to! Outdoor seating if you like. The food isn't your typical gringo mexican food either .
I recently dined here during my visit to Lake Tahoe last week. It was conveniently located just a few blocks away from where I stayed, which was at the Harrah's Lake Tahoe hotel and casino. Very friendly staff and very good food. The food was very well cooked, especially the homemade corn tortillas and the delicious steak meat. This restaurant gave off a pretty relaxing and comfortable atmosphere. It is a great spot for authentic Mexican food in Lake Tahoe.
Updated March 2026: we visited this place again recently and was very happy with the friendly staff, and the great service and good food. We visited this place on a Sunday afternoon. Indoor seating was quite empty and we were seated immediately. Friendly staff and the food items came out very fast. Nice decor. The location is very good and easy to access
OMG. It took me a trip to lake Tahoe to find one of the best Mexican restaurant I have ever eaten in California. Great job. Thank you Oscar for putting up with us.
We had La molcajete and one of each tacos. La molcajete was so delicious and a big hit with our guest from out of the country. All the tacos were also top notch.
Good portions were huge and delicious !

Good portions were huge and delicious !
Great experience. We ordered four different dishes and every single one was delicious. The portions are very generous, the staff is extremely friendly, and the prices are very good for the quality and quantity of food. We will definitely be back.

What an amazing place! We sat on the patio with our pet dog. The staff were super friendly and the food was delicious! Veggie fajitas, cucumber jalapeno margarita and some amazing top shelf mezcal. Must visit if you’re in South Lake Tahoe!!
We hosted our welcome party at Cantarito Cocina Y Bar in South Lake Tahoe the night before our destination wedding, and it was absolutely perfect. From start to finish, everything about the evening was spot-on. The food was incredible—we had fajitas, guacamole, salsa with chips, and margaritas, and every bite (and sip!) was fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. The fajitas were a huge hit with our guests, and the guac and salsa had that authentic, homemade taste that’s hard to beat. The margaritas were strong, refreshing, and the perfect touch for a celebratory evening. The staff at Cantarito were so welcoming and attentive, making sure everything ran smoothly and that our group felt right at home. The atmosphere was festive and fun, just what we wanted to kick off our wedding weekend. If you’re looking for a place in South Lake Tahoe for a group event—or just a seriously good Mexican meal—Cantarito Cocina Y Bar is a must. 10/10 would recommend without hesitation!
Cocina y Bar Cantatito has a great atmosphere and a welcoming, lively vibe that makes it an enjoyable place to dine. The staff was friendly and attentive, and the drinks were well made and refreshing. The food was overall quite good. The dishes were nicely presented and flavorful, with several menu items that were satisfying and clearly made with care. While a few items didn’t completely wow us, everything we tried was enjoyable and met expectations. Overall, it’s a solid spot for good food, good drinks, and a relaxed night out. With a little more consistency, it could easily become a go-to, but as it stands, it’s definitely worth visiting if you’re in the area.
Gave 4 stars because it was pricey but the food was great. No free chips and salsa here like we are used to back home. Had terrific margaritas and the chicken quesadilla was cheesy and delicious.
The food was delicious, and the location was mindful, but the service wasn't great. Portions are huge, and they have some fun drinks too. Little over priced but given the location, everything is overpriced. Do try.

The Carnitas taco & fish taco were delicious..meat was very tender. Refried beans were great, but the Spanish rice was a little bland to me. Service was excellent, especially our server Ryan.
Loud, cheap atmosphere. Friendly server but understaffed. Food runners had no idea what they were doing. Carnitas was no good. Quesabirria taco was burned and the consommé was just oil and flavorless. Would have preferred Taco Bell.
I would not recommend. I tried plenty of Mexican cosine and this is not even close.
I’d give it zero stars if I could because we didn’t get to eat there. I made reservations several weeks ago for 2/24 and received both email and text confirmations. Yesterday 2/23 received both email and text reminders for 2/24. Showed up tonight 2/24 to a totally closed restaurant. No warning. No apology email or text that they’d suddenly decided to close. Shame on them! Beware!
