Katz's Houston Reviews
This place is an upgraded ihop/dennys with a full service bar. Parking lot is adequate. Interior was clean and great decor. This place open 24 hours which is a convenient. I ordered the chicken and waffles which was pretty good.
Ali our server was attentive and well mannered, the food was excellent, so delicious. I didn’t know they have pastrami!!! It’s my favorite 🫶🏻 I love this restaurant, I’m definitely going to come back.
Great Service, Great food. Definitely recommend the Grilled Pastrami Hero & Strawberry Lemonade. Even more so, loved the hospitality from waiter Ali, as well as the hostess Erika, as well as from the waitress Belem.
From the time I walk in until I left I felt welcome. Food selection was made very simple by True and Tiffany D. They are very knowledgeable and had great substitutes and recommendations.. I was very pleased with what I received. Great portion size eat and still had leftover. Definitely worth returning. .. excellent service Tiffany D and True
I really love this restaurant. This is my first time visiting this Katz's on Montrose. It is two stories. When we walked in at about 8am, we were greeted and seated promptly. It was clean and the music was good. Our drink orders were taken right away and when our server brought our mimosas, she took our meal order. She was fun and amiable. She's very good at serving the public. I ordered the Philly cheesesteak omelet and my son ordered the protein bowl. The food portions are generous, especially for the price. I went to the restrooms and they were clean. I would highly recommend this restaurant.
Nice 24 hour place. Good place to grab a bite after clubbing , but area can be a bit sketchy. Parking lots are prone to break ins which is not Katz’s fault. Plenty of seating both upstairs and downstairs. Food was good serving breakfast all day as well as dinner. The New York style Reuben was fire 🔥, comparable to Ken and Ziggys. Meat was well brined without it being gamey or salty. The newer locations are probably better and safer as they are in better areas.
11/27/25 Thank you for being a top-quality restaurant that was opened on Thanksgiving Day! Whenever I come back, I will definitely try more items from this eatery!!! I missed out on the Thanksgiving dinner because I didn't notice the the card on the table. No worries, though...that chili dog was the best, ever!!!! Great chili!!! Sol was a great waitress...and the red velvet cheesecake was great and most unique selection.
Katz’s is definitely a place to come hungry because you’ll leave absolutely full and satisfied! The food portions are huge, and everything is packed with flavor. We started with their slaw and pickles, and they were the perfect way to kick off the meal. I had the chicken fried chicken with mashed potatoes and cream gravy on the side, plus creamy spinach, all perfectly seasoned and delicious. My mother had the shrimp and sausage pasta and couldn’t stop raving about how good it was. We’ll definitely be back!
First off our waitress "Jay" was amazing 👏🏾. She showed extreme patience with my drunk ass sister sending orders back😩. Very pleasant Young lady. The food was good. I tested my sister's cabbage roll and it was surprisingly good! Had glaze onnit and the inside reminds you of good meatloaf no tomato sauce. I had the advacado toast with smoked salmon and two over medium eggs. All of the staff were on point with customer service and smiling faces for the win. We ended up getting a parking spot right in front free of charge. I'll definitely be back when I visit houston.
I like Katz. We started ordering from here over Covid so everything was take out but delivered in a way that kept the food tasting good. When we eventually dined at this location we were met with a very distinct atmosphere that mixed a New York diner vibe in. The food has always been really good all around from their desserts to their sandwiches to their salads.
This place is amazing! The food is awesome and the workers are super nice and you can tell they care about your experience. My sister and I shared the Wisconsin cheese curds and they were 10/10! If you visit, ask for Kevin! He was so polite and amazing to have a conversation with. If I come back to Houston, I would absolutely stop here again.
Went here for the first time a few weeks ago since I live close by. The service was great! They were very kind and funny, and they were quick with the service. We ordered breakfast, and it came out hot and fresh. I got waffles, the potato hashbrown thing, and some bacon. Would definitely order this again. The interior was also nicely decorated. It was definitely not what I was expecting to see. Cool bar stools and neat art decoration.
It was much better than I initially thought it would be. The service was excellent, everyone was very nice and I felt welcome. The food tasted great, well seasoned all around, and good flavor. The chicken in my pasta was well cooked and juicy, not dry like many places tend to have. Will be returning. The only gripe I kinda had was that the upstairs wasn't open when we were there. I'm assuming that's accounting for times when they are the most busy, though, not a deal breaker.
What can I say about Katz!? 😆 It’s American food , kinda hard to say the food was amazing or trash. It’s eggs & potatoes… yea they have steak and or fried chicken but let’s be real , why would anyone order filet migon from a diner!? “ don’t answer that “ 😂 Service & Atmosphere was great!
I like Katz. It's a place that will hit the spot with no frills. The food would be a 5 if the sausage wasn't fried so long. The waitress was amazing. Kitchen is slow. But it was a busy place. Lots of room to sit, but not that many cooks or Kitchen beds. Also, why was some dude fixing a serving tray. Like he was taking the handle end of a spoon and doing something to the tray. But whatever. The coffee and pecan pancakes were great.
Food was amazing! Atmosphere was beautiful and very cute, and they have a nice parking lot right by the building. The hosts were very nice and welcoming. Though there was a pet hair in the matzo ball in the Matzo Ball Soup, overall the flavor was great. Couldn’t tell the waiter cause he wasn’t around. That’s the only downside, the service was extremely slow. There was only one other table in the restaurant and I was looking at the menu and my friend ordered before me. The waiter did not come back around until 10 mins after my friend’s food came back to order my food. Same with getting the waiter for the check.
Our first time here, food and service were great! I gave it 3 stars because our utensils were dirty, other than that I would visit again and hope to have a clean fork, instead of one with greens on it.
A number of us (8 at one table and 8 at another table) had plans to go out together after church on a Sunday. Realizing that it was a holiday weekend and a Sunday we realized it would be very busy and it was. We were able to secure the two tables but unfortunately, calling ahead and asking for accommodations wasn’t allowed - which isn’t a big deal, honestly. I typically use OpenTable for that purpose but wasn’t involved in the planning. The service was the best part. The restaurant was almost unbearably loud. I don’t know if this is the exception rather than the rule - I don’t frequent this location but it was almost too much for several of us. The food was mediocre at best and incredibly overpriced for what you receive. I ordered the Monte Cristo sandwich and it was just a sad, soggy mess with this incredibly strange fried egg smashed between a coupe tiny slices of meat and unfortunately, in order to get it out I lost the cheese. It was “griddled” (which the menu stated) but that equated to two soggy slices of bread dusted with powdered sugar - which makes the mysterious fried egg even stranger. Just don’t do it. Then the waitress specifically asked what side I preferred and I said sweet potato fries and nothing else was mentioned. I get the check and they charged me $4.99 for a side that she asked me to pick. I just felt some type of way about that whole thing. Maybe I just ordered the wrong thing but I highly doubt I’ll be back to try it again. There looks to be plenty of parking but it was still very difficult to park but that’s got a lot to do with the area. It is what it is. The elevator was also out which made it really difficult for one member of our party because the only restroom is upstairs. So be aware if you are handicapped or a member of your dining party is because that’s a no-go.
Ordered from Katz website. The dishes don’t match the pictures online. A handful of chips as an appetizer for 5 people. Missing sauce from the blackened chicken Acapulco. Missing the entire country fried chicken. I received a rare steak. When I order a medium rare. Shrimp and grits are a small cup of shrimp and a grit cake. It arrived quickly but everything was cold. Holiday work party ruined. This is not the Katz that I remember. Queso fries, desserts and drinks were good.
