Tex Chic Puerto Rican Eatery is truly a hidden gem for authentic Puerto Rican food in Houston. From the moment we walked in, Titi Marilú made us feel welcome and treated us like family. Her warmth and hospitality made the entire experience feel just like being back home in Puerto Rico. We ordered a variety of traditional dishes, and every single one was excellent. The alcapurrias were perfectly crispy on the outside and well-seasoned inside, just like the ones you find in Puerto Rico. The empanadillas were fresh and flavorful. The arroz con salchichas with habichuelas was comforting and nostalgic, and the mofongo was moist, garlicky, and full of authentic flavor. The bistec encebollado was tender and cooked perfectly, topped with flavorful onions that brought everything together beautifully. To complete the experience, we enjoyed Malta and Kola Champagne, which added to the authentic Caribbean feel of the meal. If you are looking for authentic Puerto Rican cuisine in Houston, Caribbean food, or the best mofongo in the area, this restaurant should absolutely be on your list. The food is genuine, the portions are generous, and the atmosphere feels like home. We will definitely be returning and highly recommend Tex Chic Puerto Rican Eatery to anyone craving real Puerto Rican flavors in Houston.

Delicious food and great service! The ladies were warm and attentive, making us feel like family, just like when you visit home in PR. We enjoyed the alcapurrias, mahi mahi empanadas, and mofongo with fried pork.

Excellent service and amazing food! I was greeted by the owner and even had a conversation with her while she served my meal. She was very easy to talk to and really knew her stuff. The food was incredible, just like eating your grandma's cooking. The biftec with white rice, red stewed beans, and tostones was amazingly good. She even made the tostones in the moment, which made them taste even better. I definitely recommend this place and will absolutely be coming back

I ordered the mofongo w/ carne guisada and it was pretty good! Price point is a little high ,but honestly the food and hard work to make quality dishes says enough. The wonderful lady that was there was super sweet and accommodating🖤 This is a great place if you want something that feels comforting. It’s hard to find authentic Puerto Rican food, especially from the south-east side of Houston, so I’m definitely happy to experience coming here and get my fixings of mofongo 😌.

Can’t recommend it enough — went in for fried plantains and got a whole plate of rice and meat goodness. The owners were so kind and personable. Definitely coming back soon!!!

Oh man! Walked in and the owner greeted me warmly, before letting me know what was on the menu today. I ordered the chicken stew with the red beans and rice, plus tostones, and let me tell you - it was delicious and cooked with love! No, it's not fancy, and maybe better for take out for big groups, but I loved the warmth of the people working there and the tasty food will have me coming back! Authentic and delicious - I have missed Puerto Rican food, so I am so glad I came here.

Great service! Super friendly The food was just as delicious. I got the wings because that’s my go too food.( buffalo) not spicy at at all, attest to my liking. But when having Puerto Rican, i do not expect spicy. However, the flavor was there!! Very enjoyable + the siracha on the side was nice. Very friendly staff. Great tasting food. Definitely recommend!!

The best hands down food, as a puertorican being able to get a piece of home is gold. From the atmosphere, to how they great you it feels like you're back in the island.

My friend from work recommended that I go to Tex-Chick so I can get in touch with my puerto rican roots. When I went, Ms. Maria was so nice and gracious to explain each dish, give me recommendations, and a special treat! And everything I had was DELICIOSO!!! The beef w/ onions, chicken w/ onions, rice with beans (white and red ones), root vegetables, and fried plaintains...enjoyed all plates on each of my 2.5 visits. Thank you Ms. Maria! I will be back regularly! 😉

What a hidden gem! Tex Chick is a queer owned, woman owned, fantastic Puerto Rican restaurant. If you want homestyle Caribbean comfort food, definitely go check it out. And they speak great English so don’t feel worried about going if you’re not a Spanish speaker!

I finally had the pleasure of checking out Tex-Chick Eatery, a family-owned Puerto Rican restaurant that’s been serving the community since 1982, now lovingly run by Titi Marilu and Titi Grace. From the moment I stepped into this cozy spot, I instantly felt like I was back home in Puerto Rico. Just like our island - it’s small, but filled with a huge heart. We chatted with them about our families, childhood memories, and how happy we are that they’ve kept our culture alive right here in the Montrose area of Houston. It’s a counter-service eatery, where you can see all the freshly prepared dishes right in front of you. You truly can’t ask for better service — if there’s something you’re craving that’s not in the menu and they have time, they’ll gladly make it for you! That’s the kind of warmth and hospitality that makes this place so special. We enjoyed a true Puerto Rican feast: arroz con gandules, pernil, mofongo con camarones al ajillo, pollo frito, empanadas de yuca y masa, flan de coco, limber de guanábana, and of course, more food to take home because we couldn’t have it all at once! My personal highlight? The limber with traditional flavors. Limbers definitely took me back to childhood. Prices are very reasonable, college students even get 10% off, parking can be a bit tricky, and they’re closed Sunday through Tuesday — but trust me, it’s absolutely worth planning your visit. Let’s keep our culture thriving. Support our local Puerto Rican businesses. WEEPA! 🇵🇷💃🏽

The food was amazing! The pastelillos con carne, mouth watering, reminds me of Bronx, NY. Arroz con gandules was the best I've ever tasted. I really enjoyed mofongo con camarones and limber (Puerto Rican icee).

I have visited twice with the new owner and I have to say that is not the same. The ambiance is great and it looks better inside but the food is nowhere like with the previous owner. I have rice and beans with pastelon the first time and rice and beans with biftec the second time. Is missing flavorand is very bland, I didn't feel the Puerto Rican gusto. They really have to get better with the food.

Food is ok. Prices are reasonable for the portions. Unfortunately I wouldn't recommend this place if you really want to try puertorican food. The fried meat or "carne frita" didn't have flavor or seasoning, as well as the beans. The mofongo was ok, but the plantains weren't ready to be made used. The A/C of the place doesn't work well. So be ready to sweat while eating. Once the food is served, no one comes to the table to check if you want/need anything else. Also, no parking is available. You must find a parking spot somewhere around the street. Unfortunately, it is not recommended.
