Tumble22 Austin Reviews
They nailed it. The taste is there, so it's tasty hot chicken and not just hot chicken. The oil content is low as expected. David Moore said to us that hot chicken is not supposed to be that unhealthy. This chicken is probably a little less healthy than Moore's but not much. I actually ordered too much so when I go back I'll have to control myself. This chicken holds up on delivery, don't worry.
The food had my tastebuds tumbling! The chicken was so juicy and packed with flavor! I asked for a side of the clucking hot(it’s ghost pepper based), it was spicy but not unbearable for those who enjoy spicier foods. Great food done simply, but exceptionally well. Pleasant southern ambiance and hospitality.
Fantastic Nashville hot chicken place in Austin, TX. Went out with some students after a meeting. They all really wanted to go to dinner at Tumble22 and I completely understand why. Chicken is freshly made and has a tailored heat level. I am a fan of spicy food and the "dang hot" is PLENTY of spice for me. I worry that any more heat would take away from the flavor of the chicken. It was a Wednesday and the place was packed. Even with the large number of customers, service was outstanding. I wish more places were like Tumble 22. Highly recommended!
Delicious chicken in a relaxed environment. I highly recommend the og sandwich and coleslaw. I really appreciate the relaxed environment and the decor that feels like a nod to old southern style. Seating is seat yourself. We’ll definitely be back!
Atmosphere: Modern rustic, casual. Although busy, the staff keeps a steady pace and tables open quickly. Food: Fried chicken was excellent, even though we had the "wimpy" spice. (Spice level is selected upon ordering). Sweet pickles were an unexpected and pleasant counterpoint. Sides: macaroni and cheese was rated highly, beans were "ranch style," potato salad was pretty good, and only the kale Cole slaw disappointed (it was purple cabbage slaw with flecks ok kale). The pies had us drooling as soon as we entered, so we saved room for pecan toffee chocolate. Good flavor and tasty pecans all in all, but I'm a fan of gooey pecan pie filling and this pie was more of a solid variety. Service: Friendly and pretty quick Pricing: $25 for 2 quarter dark plated, 2 teas, and a slice of pie. Great value!
This place ranks high on my list of fried chicken. Amazing taste. The seating area is a little crowded and tight. Everything is pretty clean. The staff at extremely friendly and helpful. They explain the menu and know the different offerings and levels of spice. The chicken is amazing. The Dang-Hot has a delicious taste due to being made with habanero. To that point, the staff was able to explain the different levels of spice and what types of peppers were used. The fries were crispy and very good. They offer different types of sauces and some descent beers. Overall great dining experience. Gets a bit crowded with a line out the door. We came at a lower volume time which is what I would suggest. Steer clear during high volume times. Great place for an occasional meal- not the healthiest, but a good occasional treat.
Tumble 22 is renowned for serving the most delectable chicken in Austin, TX! The restaurant’s name, Tumble 22, reflects its unique cooking process, where each piece of chicken is tumbled 22 times to ensure maximum flavor and tenderness. The fried chicken is expertly cooked to golden perfection, with a crispy exterior that gives way to juicy, succulent meat. Each bite bursts with flavor, making it a standout dish in the vibrant culinary scene of Austin. In addition to the main attraction, the salads are always fresh and crisp, providing a refreshing contrast to the rich chicken. The attentive and friendly servers enhance the dining experience with their welcoming demeanor and commitment to excellent service. One area for improvement could be the oil used for frying; opting for high-quality oils instead of seed oils would elevate the dish even further. With a few adjustments, Tumble 22 could achieve perfection in every aspect of its menu!
Amazing and super tasty! Visited with two children and two infants. Staff was friendly, patient, and helpful. The hostess went above and beyond. She saw my hands full with an infant and said, "I got something for you!" She brought out a baby chair and even attached it to the table for us. Our server had good recommendations and answered all of our questions without getting impatient. She knew the menu well. We sat outside where they had huge fans to cool off. Food was delicious! Adult beverages did not skimp on the alcohol. Everything was very tasty!
Great consistent and always hits the spot. I'm never disappointed when I grabe a bite at tumble 22 on Burnett. Love the armold palmers. Service is usually great also. Melanie was awesome on my last visit.
This was our first visit to this location and like all of the others we have been to, it was amazing. The food is delicious every single time. The comeback sauce is true to its name, and the service and atmosphere are top notch. 0 complaints, as per usual.
Aemon was the best waiter we ever had in our entire life. He is highly educated on the comeback sauce, the most kind, epic human being and if he doesn’t win the competition I’m never coming back. Food was served fast and hot!
Decided to try Tumble before I left town, because my friend bragged about the food and happy hour. I did not get to try happy hour, but loved the Cobb salad, mac and cheese, and buttermilk pie. I typically do not like peoples mac and cheese, but this was🔥. Everything we had was pretty awesome, and I do plan on eating here again when I come back into town. Next time I'll try the drinks, and hopefully on their convered patio.😎
Tumble 22 in Austin is an amazing place to go if you want some delicious hot chicken, and the service is always fantastic. I had a waiter named Eamon and he was absolutely incredible. He was super friendly, attentive, and helpful when it came to ordering. I would definitely recommend asking for him if you ever go there!
Initially thought $10 for just 2 tenders was high until I saw the size of them. Mac and cheese is awesome and a reasonable add on for 2$. Pies also look good. Only complaint is that the booth was very tight and it was pretty noisy. Much like sports bar atmosphere.
I found this place while looking for good chicken in Austin. I ordered a sandwich and a order of fried chick (1 leg and 1 thigh) that came with 2 sides I ordered fries and made them “dirty style” and our server suggested Mac and cheese so I went for it. Everything was delicious but the fried chicken and fries were my fav! Service was great and our food was brought out pretty fast.
This is one of Austin’s essential spots. Just like Austin has its awesome bbq spots, T22 would rank at top on its list of top southern fried chicken joints. I’ll dare you to spice up to levels higher than wimpy. It is so worth it. Remember that their portion sizes are huge and be prepared to stuff up or take out the rest. The chicken is juicy no matter what you order and their sides are bomb - esp the collard greens and the bbq beans - they are my favorite. I love their pies too! Ample of indoor and outdoor seating and it shouldn’t be a horrible wait. The prices are nominal and on the affordable side. This definitely makes to the top along with the likes of Gus and Lucy’s in Austin. Definitely recommend.
Angel was our waiter and he was so attentive and super funny. If you can request for a waiter I would highly recommend him. The food was great (highly recommend the half Cobb salad) and the drinks were strong (how can life get any better). This Tumble is lucky to have him!
This place is amazing. The chicken is actually spicy but also cooked so well. Juicy deliciousness. I've had the Joe Nathan spice several times and while its spicy, it's not as flavorful as Cluckin Hot. I also love their mac and cheese. It's the kind that coats your throat in gooey cheesiness. Highly recommend!
Everything was great! 2 bloody Mary’s was a great choice! Jade was a great help explaining the menu and so friendly and inviting! We will be back for more!!!!!
Yum yum yum! Would recommend checking out this spot and getting the Mac n cheese dirty style which includes ranch and hot chicken. Also, there was a special going on where they had sandwiches that you could get the same style Mac n cheese on top of. Chicken was great quality and the service was also great!
A phenomenal fried chicken place - undoubtedly the best in Austin. Fried to perfection and regardless of white or dark meat it is all juicy. Their service is classic Southern hospitality that makes you feel right at home, and the pies they offer for dessert will make you feel all warm and tingly inside. Or maybe that's the spicy Nashville hot chicken - but regardless it's all excellent, and my only complaint is that it's not closer to home! And did I mention that the absolute best chicken sandwich ever and is available on their happy hour menu??
We were already fans of Tumble 22 - their food is fresh, delicious and hearty. They really went above & beyond tonight! I was embarrassed to realize I placed an online order at the Cedar Park location vs Burnet. Regan was so kind in helping me and suggested I call to the other location and switch the order to Burnet. Adam in Cedar park was so nice and quickly corrected it. Regan got my order filled on the spot and even rushed it for me. This additional effort and kindness can be hard to find these days. Thank you both for saving my dinner (and saving me 45min in the car)!
Great service. My husband had the 1/4 dark hot and he said it was the best chicken he’s ever had. The tenders are so juicy and Mac&cheese was delicious as well!
This was my first time to a Tumble 22. I enjoyed it. I ordered the 1/4 chicken dark with kale Cole slaw and collard greens. The chicken was very moist and very flavorful. I went with the first level of hotness. Just one above wimpy. Too scared to go hotter. I really enjoyed the sides. They have options that are a good change up from everyone else. I will return here
Tumble 22 is exceptionally good fried chicken! Since I first discovered them I’ve been back over and over and never been disappointed. Love the different spice levels for the chicken…I like spicy, my wife doesn’t. Perfect. Love the greens, too. … Great little bar area. Drinks are excellent. Absolutely recommend Tumble22, definitely worth a visit.
Absolutely awesome spot for some good hot chicken and pie! The chicken tenders and hot chicken sandwich are fantastic, and you get to choose the level of "hotness". The "Dang Hot" is a really good spice level if you enjoy tolerable heat, not too spicy to slow you down, but enough to keep you satisfied. There's also a no heat option if you'd prefer. The hot chicken sandwich comes with thick-cut sweet pickles and slaw, and I personally think it's better than others in Austin. Their pies are made from scratch, and the chocolate pecan pie is awesome; not too crunchy, and the pecans taste fresh. The service is good, and the manager was very hospitable and went around talking to all the tables. Definitely recommend this place for some good, spicy food!
So good. Hot chicken has the perfect amount of spice for someone (me) who can't handle of a whole lot of spice but loves the flavor, mac and especially dirty mac are absolutely delicious. Great pricing. Awesome staff. Cannot believe I've lived in austin for so long and only found out about tumble recently.
Tumble 22 never disappoints. The chicken is crispy, juicy, and the spice levels are real. The service is top tier, super friendly, fast, and welcoming every time. 10/10 spot. 🔥
This was my first time coming to Tumble22. Somehow this place screams Austin, and I love it. The chicken was incredibly delicious, dang hot it's the perfect amount of spicy. The Broccoli salad is a nice refresher in between bites. Angel was amazing and if you come here I definitely hope he's your server.
amazing chicken sandwich spot, loved the korean BBQ OG! the size was huge (good to match the higher prices). chicken was crispy and covered in delicious flavor, definitely a good execution of the asian fusion for the korean BBQ. i got the mo hot spicy level and it was a good level of spice. the deviled eggs were amazing. the szechuan fires were weirdly sweet not what i expected, didn’t get szechuan vibes as szechuan is known to be spicy. loved the added raisins in the broccoli salad. lots of parking and seating with friendly service.
This is our first time here at this location. We've been to the one in Round Rock and Cedar Park. The wait was not long to get in. The place was packed. We ordered drinks. I had the Dirty Harry and Will had the Big Larry. He had the salad. I had the 2 piece white with mac and cheese and collard greens. So good! We also had a piece of pie. We love the chocolate pecan pie. As always, Tumble 22 is a hit.
When it comes to a decent fried chicken in the area tumble 22 is your go to. They're dipping sauces are very enjoyable and all of their sides except for their collard greens are awesome. Only issue is they should be allowed to mix and match the chicken nuggets with different levels because when you just get the powder on the side it's not the same. Overall a pretty great experience. Staff is always friendly and on point.
We’ve been here twice in the past two weeks, and both visits were amazing! The food is absolutely top-notch — everything we’ve tried has been fresh, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. Our server today, Eamon, went above and beyond and really made the experience even better. The place is super clean, has a great vibe, and you can tell the staff really care about what they do. We’ll definitely keep coming back!
If I could give them 10 Stars I WOULD! This place is SOOOOO amazing! The family and I wanted a quick bite to eat during our busy day. I had been craving some good real southern fried chicken. We got exactly what we wanted! I had fried chicken, collard greens, and potato salad. Everything was DELICIOUS 🤤 I mean, fried chicken ain't fried chicken without the sides! Mac-n-cheesewas amazing! Creamy, cheesy, noodles were cooked perfectly. Potato salad was made to perfection. My hubby got the barbeque beans and they were also really good! You seriously cannot go wrong with anything on the menu. It was so good we went back the day after to get more fried chicken. And my husband isnt one to eat the same thing two days in a row. That says alot!
Tumble 22 has consistently delivered amazing Nashville hot chicken, and my recent visit with a friend was no exception. I've been a fan for a while now, and every time I go, I'm reminded why it's one of my favorite spots. The chicken is always perfectly cooked, juicy on the inside with a satisfyingly crispy exterior, and the seasoning is just incredible. They've truly nailed the balance of flavor and heat. What sets Tumble 22 apart isn't just the chicken itself, but also their fantastic sides. They complement the chicken perfectly, creating a well-rounded and satisfying meal. Everything tastes fresh and homemade, adding to the overall quality of the experience. It's clear they put just as much care into their sides as they do their star attraction. Pro tip for anyone ordering to-go: definitely pair your Tumble 22 chicken with rice. It's a game-changer! Rice is life, as they say, and it soaks up all the delicious sauces and seasonings perfectly. Also, if you're looking for a good kick of heat, I highly recommend going with the "Mo Hot" spice level. It delivers a satisfying burn without being overwhelming, allowing you to still enjoy the fantastic flavor of the chicken. Tumble 22 never fails to impress, and I highly recommend it to anyone craving authentic Nashville hot chicken.
Just have to say I flew all the way from New York to Austin. Unfortunately all of the sudden we started losing altitude! I immediately ran to the cabin to find none other than Pilot Having an asthma attack! Luckily, Amon was on my flight and due to his quick intelligent thinking was able to land the plane safely. The Pilot's legacy was saved! All thanks to Amon. After landing safely everyone clapped and cheered! I asked Amon if there was anything we can do for him since we we're all so grateful. He recommended us to come to Tumble 22! Not only was he a good Pilot but AN AMAZING server as well! I'm so grateful to experience such great food and Sevice! Thank you Amon wouldn't have been able to Enjoy that amazing food without your help! CHEERS!
I finally had the opportunity to go to this fantastic eatery last weekend. We sat at the bar. Great service. Cool bartender. And amazing food!! Nashville Hot Chicken... bring it!! I love the dirty fries and Sezchuan fries (drool). Their collard greens are so boss!! ...my photos are from take out. 😉
Went in on a Sunday before a niners game, and as always great chicken! Definitely more consistent than the competition, and the service on this visit was amazing. Amanda's smile and informative approach were nicer than the typical "what do you wanna drink" greet. Great service serving up always great chicken!
I live nearby and eat here often. Amon (hope I spelled that right) and Daphne are for sure a huge asset to their team just bc of their wonderful personalities and friendliness. My name is not easy but Amon remembered it as soon as I sat down, which is such a nice little touch on customer service. I also appreciate that Daphne knows my order whenever she is my waitress, especially considering how many customers she can potentially help between my visits. Food is always hot, fresh, and quick.
We were in the area and saw Tumble 22 and decided to give it a try. The server was really nice and friendly, the atmosphere is really nice and chill! We sat outside since the weather was lovely! We got the Korean BBQ OG without the Kimchi carrot slaw & the chicken tenders! The chicken was really juicy and crunchy to perfection. The bun was super buttery and delicious! The margarita and mascow mule were very good, we were very satisfied with out food and service! We'll definitely go back again!
Had a seat at the bar and the bartender Melanie had the best attitude and smile. Food was amazing she had recommended the sandwich of the month the royal rangoon. She mentioned the funds would be donated to cancer awareness (it made me feel more better about eating fried chicken) it was just phenomenal. Thanks Melanie!
I frequently visit Tumble 22 restaurant and was absolutely thrilled with the experience. The spices they use are incredible, offering different levels of heat to suit every palate. Personally, I loved their “dang hot” and “cluck-in hot” rubs, which are the third and second spiciest options on the menu. The flavors were perfectly balanced, providing a delightful kick without overwhelming the taste buds. The chicken was cooked to perfection, crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. They also have a great selection of sides; I particularly enjoyed the fries and the salads. The portion sizes are generous, ensuring you leave satisfied. One thing to note is that there can be some wait times if you go during peak hours, but it’s definitely worth it. Parking is plentiful, so you don’t need to worry about finding a spot. If you’re a fan of spicy food and enjoy exploring different levels of heat, this place is a must-visit. Highly recommended for anyone looking to spice up their fried chicken experience!
My team and I chose Tumble 22 for our lunch after a team building activity. Our waiter-Cody was phenomenal and attentive the moment I sat down. We arrived during lunch time which was about 12:30 or so and it was bustling but no long wait times. We all ordered easily and the food came out. Everything was delicious and seasoned to perfection. I had the Cobb salad with chicken bites and it comes with two heavenly eggs. *Chef’s kiss* It comes with ranch dressing that I got on the side and added as I desired. Everyone else’s food choices looked amazing as well. I ended up getting a tender to go and ate it for lunch the next day and it was just as good! Great spot for food and I’m glad there’s locations in Houston so I can visit as well!
Tumble 22 is a great fried chicken spot. I took my family of 5 there. They had kids meals which went over well and also lots of options for adults. The price was surprisingly affordable, although it is sit-down so be prepared to tip your server. We had excellent service when we were there. The manager and waiter were very attentive and anticipated our needs well. They basically have ranch and their own sauce, both of which are good. Then they have about 6 hotness options with dry rub as an option as well. I ordered the Dang Hot with dry rub (3 tenders) and it was really good! I definitely recommend trying out Tumble 22 if you like fried chicken. The atmosphere is great as well!
My family and I have been coming to T22 for many years. My kids always choose this spot as a special treat! We love the fried chicken and pies, but I was very impressed with our service this week when Eamon helped us. He was excellent: prompt to deliver waters and menus, didn't make us wait too long to put our order in, checked on us when appropriate, didn't interfere during conversation, replaced our ketchup bottle when he noticed we were out... In a world where good service has gone by the wayside, Eamon did such a great job it was worth writing a review for. Thank you!
Highly recommend for some good chicken. It’s so cheap and the happy hour from 4-6pm every day even makes it cheaper. It blew my mind for the sandwich and a side for $5, the drinks are also $5. The margarita was very strong 😍 No reservations needed, you seat yourself when walking in. The server was very friendly and kept checking in. He even gave us different sauces to try. Will definitely come back.
Melanie made sure I had a great experience here! The chicken tenders were hot, crispy, and full of flavor without being greasy. The portions were generous, and everything tasted fresh. The Comeback sauce paired perfectly with the tenders, and the fries were just the right amount of crunchy. Melanie’s service was friendly and quick, and the place was clean and welcoming. Definitely a spot I’ll come back to whenever I’m craving quality tenders and outstanding service!
For it being my first time visiting Tumble 22, it was the best choice. The service was excellent. Amanda helped us by explaining the menu and making the drinks exactly to our taste. The food is 100% recommended. I ordered the OG Crispy Chicken Sandwich (mo’ hot), which was delicious just the way it comes, along with the broccoli salad and the chocolate cream pie. My meal was the best of the day. We will definitely be coming back!
CHELSEA knows what's up! She was an excellent server. I've been wanting to go to this place for a while so my review may come across as a bit biased. We got free szechuan fries for signing up for the app, so I highly recommend that. Based on the fries alone the place deserves five stars. The pulled hot chicken used in that was delicious and is what I was expecting for the two piece boneless thighs with mac and cheese. I'm not a big fan of spice, so I got them in the painless heat level with comeback sauce. Maybe it's because of the heat level I chose, but they tasted off, like some vegetable oil was overpowering the chicken. Next time I'm going to try the tenders to see if there's a difference. I could also have tried it Korean style, but I wouldn't recommend it plain crispy on the painless heat level. I enjoyed the macaroni, it isn't super cheesy and was pretty light. Unfortunately, we didn't get points in the app for our order because you can't input a past order if you used a discover card to pay, which is weird. TLDR: Worth the hype, but get the tenders over the bone-in chicken, and the szechuan fries are great if you enjoy seasoning.
Excellent chicken joint! Especially if you love heat and fried chicken! Boy it's hot when they crank it up! Hits home, and you'll be a fan of the pie, and mac and cheese, too! Plus they support the community and like to support a good cause. Excellent service, and not a long wait even when they are busy! Plus they have discounts for patriots and first responders. Allstar chicken hot spot for sure!
Food was fresh and VERY good. Great flavors, quick and friendly. Fun atmosphere. Pies are also extremely good. Got the lil 'OG and the size was great for me (chick-fil-a size). More than anything else, Kristin our waitress made our day! She was very knowledgeable about the food providing her favorites while encouraging based on our own preferences and made me feel safe given my food allergies. She was amazing!
The food - I got the 2 tender at mo hot, coleslaw on the side and an Arnold Palmer. The tenders were on top of regular white bread, they were crispy and tore up nicely, and the heat was from a dry rub that wasn’t too overwhelming, hot enough to feel the heat but not too hot that it’s intolerable. The coleslaw was creamy and not soggy, very light seasoning. It was a great combo to eat with the chicken tenders. I also got a chocolate cream pie, which was delicious. It did have a good amount of cream that some might find overwhelming, but the taste of the chocolate filling and the cookie like crust(not pie crush, more like a soft cookie) was a great combo. The service was great , with the recommendations from the gentleman coming thru for the pies. And the atmosphere was very soothing and not too loud. Overall great experience and good food. Highly recommend.
Fun, welcoming chicken restaurant with a bar, tables, booths, and a shaded patio. I visited after Tasting Table rated there OG classic chicken sandwich as the best in Texas. The ample, crunchy chicken breast and buttery bun are complimented by spicy seasoning, kale slaw, pickles, and mayo. Rather than just a sandwich, it tastes like a meal, and a well-constructed balance of flavors and textures creamy, crunchy, fluffy, juicy, and picante. For this and their other sandwiches, baskets, tenders, etc they offer a handful of spice levels, sides, and the case of pies at the front door. Their bar also has several beers on tap and a list of cocktails. This location shares a large free parking lot with adjacent businesses.
Arrived around 230pm and it was a little slow. Melanie waited on from the bar and did a fantastic job. My food came out in about ten minutes an everything was perfect. I had originally planned on taking my food to go but Melanie made room for me at the bar and served me some water. I had a really positive experience. The food was really good. I got the third level and it wasn’t so hot that it hurt, just a nice constant warmth that hung around on your lips. The food was hot and the sauces really make the experience. The fries on the side were a little underwhelming but they are good as a vehicle for more of that comeback sauce. The atmosphere is casual but a little quiet. No music and the kitchen is open so you can hear the staff making orders. It’s a great chicken place, one of the better in Austin. Definitely worth a try and ask for Melanie.
This Tumble 22 is such a great and important part of the Austin dining landscape — delicious, down home comfort food (with heat that can be spiked up at will), a cool, modern industrial chic atmosphere, table service, well-priced adult beverages, comfortable booths, bar seating, and a lovely patio. It works for a quick lunch by yourself, a relaxed dinner with another, and a gathering of family or friends. It even has its own version of a happy hour from 3-6 M-F. The spicy chicken is the star of course. We got ours “hot” — just one click up from mild, but there were several additional steps up the ladder to ghost peppers and beyond. The hot, which is seedless jalapeños, was plenty spicy for us, and the slices of sweet bread and butter pickles helped with cooling. I prefer chicken wings and breasts, and I appreciate the opportunity to pay a reasonable up charge to substitute more breasts on the half chicken dinner. The sides are also done well. Of the six options, we got beans, Cole slaw (really good and thank you for not making it sweet!), and collard greens with lots of bacon. Pies for dessert are displayed in the restaurant entrance. We had the chocolate pecan and the buttermilk and loved both. There were about six or eight craft beers on tap. House wines are available. Over a couple of hours, we enjoyed a 512 Juicy IPA, a house white wine, a house red, and a margarita. Yum. We will be back again and again.
Best nashville hot chicken!! The chicken is always so well fried - crispy but moist inside. I've had the sandwiches, tenders, and the bone-in mixes, and they're all good. Their seasonal menus are always a hit too! I got the dang and cluckin' hot and they weren't too spicy - just the right amount. I'm usually not a mac-n-cheese person but theirs is SO GOOD. Make it dirty and it's even better. Their beans are good too!
We came in town for my husbands job and fell in love with this place we came back on our last day just to have it again the flavor is amazing the chicken was so juicy and crispy and their ranch was delicious garlicky and tangy perfection!! I got an Og and my husband got the Korean style so flavorful and spicy
This hot chicken hits hard in all the right ways. I got the “Mo’ Hot” spice level, and it brought the heat without killing my taste buds—just enough to make me sweat and smile. 🔥🍗 The chicken? Ridiculously crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside. Exactly how Nashville-style should be. Fries were perfectly seasoned, and the coleslaw was the cool, crunchy balance I didn’t know I needed. That combo? A 10/10. Casual vibes, quick service, and major flavor. Already planning my return—might even brave the “Stupid Hot” next time.
I’ve been coming to this location for a few years now. Everything is always fresh and delicious. A few coworkers and I usually come in once a month to try whatever wild sandwich concoction they’ve thought up for that month. Even during a busy lunch rush, the weekday service crew are always friendly and provide exceptional service. They also have my favorite pie in town.
Came In for early dinner, 6pm on a Friday. We beat the rush because it got packed after we finished eating. Plenty of seating and parking. We got the 1/2 crispy, spice level mo’ hot. Which isn’t spicy, but it does make your lips tingle. The bread and butter pickles are to die for. Get extra if you’re a pickle person. The Mac and cheese and collards were also very good. 10/10 recommend!
Well seasoned, spicy, and delicious fried chicken! The meat is juicy and perfectly crispy. The chicken is spicy but flavorful at the same time. It isn’t spicy for spiciness sake. The sides are also great. I love their Mac cheese. Be sure to try their desserts. I love their chocolate pecan pie. Note that that the servings are BIG. The service was great. Our server Amanda was amazing. I can’t wait to come back.
Wow this chicken is freaking amazing. I love fried chicken. But I love SPICY friend chicken even more. The chicken itself is super tender and juicy. The meat tastes like it has been marinated or brined in some type of way that gives the actual meat some enhancement in addition to the breading. You can order whatever type of chicken meat you want whether it's light meat or dark meat. Both of us got the Chicken breast and wing plate with sides. The chicken breast I guess has more problems being fried because its a bigger piece of meat and it's also leaner so it can get tough. There were none of those issues here! Just some perfectly cooked, flavorful, chicken. In addition to that, you are able to select a level of heat that is from 1 - 5, me choosing 4. I really like spicy food, especially if there is a flavor to the spice - not just burn your mouth off spice. The spice was not too hot for me, and gave the chicken a really good kick. The side of mac was super great - collards were even better. My friend got the potato salad and that was also super tasty. Definitely recommend.
I ordered the 1/4 white basket that included a breast and wing "cluckin' hot" with fries. I like spicy and I thought this level of heat was great. Good flavor. My husband ordered the same but "dang hot" and kale cole slaw & potato salad. Dang hot was good, and hot as well. The fries were really good and I really enjoyed the slaw. We also ordered a few sauces: sweet chili yogurt, ranch, comeback sauce. I didn't care for the ranch. I think it tasted like bottled ranch, not homemade. The comeback sauce was ok - tasted like it had horseradish. The surprising favorite was the sweet chili yogurt. I didn't care for the consistency of the yogurt but the flavor was great! It was a nice, cool, compliment to the hot and spicy chicken. Service was ok - waitress was friendly but It took close to five minutes before she came to take our drink order. I was disappointed that she didn't check on us more often and that we had to look for her when we were ready for our check. We sat outside - one of the few days in June that the temperature was very pleasant to be outdoors. The patio is nice but there are plenty of birds hanging out. Overall a good experience.
EDIT: Ironically, after posting this 5 star review 2 months ago, we have had 2 separate to-go orders that were incorrect. Salad without dressing is very bland :( It seems like to-go orders are rushed; it would be ideal for them to be checked for accuracy prior to tying the bags shut. If this isn't remedied moving forward, we will likely stop ordering to-go. Thanks! ORIGINAL: Love the vegan options available! Always fresh and full of flavor
The chicken is 5 stars. The sides are lackluster, generic, and not good. The mac is some weird white cheese with spirals, the broccoli salad is tasteless, I don’t even know what’s going on with the bland Cole slaw, the beans exist, the potato salad yearns for the Midwest. The sides hate life. But the chicken is amazing! I wish that Lucy’s still existed on Burnet so I could get their sides and T22’s chicken.
It was good but not great. Chicken was juicy but no flavor . Felt like it needed a sauce on the side … I want to like this place and will come back to try other sandwiches. Our servers were friendly but they kind of forgot about us after the took our drink order. I guess they got mixed up since two people kept switching with the tables in our area.
Tumble22 was a similar experience to when I went to eat hot chicken in Alabama. I got the second hottest out of 5 and it wasn’t too spicy. A lot of the heat is a dry spice on the breading of the chicken. But those that are adventurous I can imagine it can be extremely hot. Overall the chicken is tender and moist, also the place always seems to be crowded when we go.
Came in for a late lunch and there was no wait and plenty of seatings. Our server was very friendly and attentive. For the chicken, you can choose from 5 different spice levels with the first one being "wimpy" and next one is hot. We got the hot and it was flavorful but couldn't really taste the spiciness so next time I'm going to try the one after hot. The 1/4 white meat was very tender and moist. Mac and cheese is very addicting.
My wife and I stopped by here for some spicy chicken. I love heat, but I'd go 1 down from the spice level I ordered. My collard greens were excellent, the slaw was disappointing, my drink and chicken were good. Service was great. There aren't any chicken places in North Austin, so thos is it. The patio out back looked very nice, though it was raining when we came--and very busy. Worth checking out for sure.
We’ve never had a bad experience here. In fact before trying this place, I preferred chicken tenders. I can’t get enough of t22 chicken. If you like it spicy, get the dang hot. Also, every once in a while they have an off the menu item called chicken fritters which consists of chicken salad deep fried in their batter with hot seasoning. Just ask if they have any in stock when you go. They are really delicious.
This is a solid fried chicken spot in a great location. The outdoor eating area is set up nicely and the staff are helpful and friendly. The food itself is pretty good! The chicken is tender and tasty, the collard greens are great, and the beans are decent as well. There are better fried chicken spots around Austin, but Tumble 22 is definitely a contender that is worth trying out.
Finally got around to trying this place and it was pretty good. Was it “authentic” hot chicken? No clue. But it was chicken that was hot and that was good enough for me. I got the 3 piece tenders (Mo’ hot) with fries and macaroni. The tenders were better than expected. Spicy enough to start my nose running but not hot enough to make me miserable or ruin the other food. Enjoyed the fries but paying an extra $1 for them as a side doesn’t really make sense. Though the macaroni was quite good I’ll never get it again simply because it was not enough for $4, roughly a small ice cream scoop amount for reference. In another review I read before ordering someone called the ranch sweet and I didn’t believe them. They were *so* right. It’s sweet and it doesn’t make sense? Not the worst ranch I’ve ever had, definitely not hidden valley bad, but I tried it before coming home and was glad I did so I could stop and pickup actually good ranch on my way home. Unfortunately that means I’ll never eat this chicken in the restaurant though. The comeback sauce was like Canes sauce with an absurd amount of horseradish added. It’s overpowering and gross.
Great southern style fried chicken restaurant with all the southern fixins! Potato salad, collard beans, Mac n cheese. You pick your spice level so it can be any heat you like. The monster sized chicken sandwich with a side on happy hour is a steal! The bar top area is small but there’s plenty of seating at tables. Service was friendly and attentive.
January 2025 My son insisted I visited this fried chicken restaurant. The 1/2 mixed chicken was crispy but not very tasty. However, great kale coleslaw and salad my son ordered was wonderful. The comeback sauce complemented well with the fried chicken. This is a busy location and many customers ordered the sandwich. Pricy was reasonable. I wish I have room for the delicious looking dessert. My rating as 5 is very satisfied Taste 4/5 Temperature 5/5 Attentive and courteous 5/5. Cleanliness 4/5 Speed of service 5/5 Will I recommend? Yes Will I return? Yes.
Umm I won’t shut up about this place lol Was interested in seeing how it compared to Hattie B’s. It’s not as greasy so right of the bat, I’m a fan. The chicken options are nice and I love the unique sides. But they NEED to STEP UP their French fry game my goodness. Please invest in better fries and it’s a 10/10. Oh and even the drinks were great. An $8 marg?? In 2026? Yes please. Also nice that it’s a sit down restaurant.
I went to tumble 22 for the first time today. The service was excellent the price was reasonable and the portions good. The reason they got a three for food was that the chicken tasted like the oil was a little too used. A few too many drops of chicken in it. Other than that pretty good. It's a shame I was so looking forward to it as it was my first time. I returned tonight and the meal was excellent. I ate in the restaurant and service was outstanding. Thank you Kristin.
Service was excellent as always, which is what keeps me coming back. The food, however, was just acceptable this time. I’m used to the Houston locations where everything is made to order and comes out hot and steaming—never a disappointment. At this location, the fries weren’t at the temperature I’m accustomed to, and that was a bit disappointing overall.
The chicken was delicious. I got the mo hot as I am not a fan of spicy but it was good. Had just the right amount of heat to not be overbearing. The chicken was hot and flavorful and the 2 piece was just enough as the pieces were huge. The Mac and cheese was some of the best from a fast food place however the fries were terrible and not worth the extra charge as a side. Also the pecan toffee pie was amazing. Would like to try other menu items. However, the staff is the reason for a low rating. I went on a Sunday afternoon. It was not busy and plenty of seating. The manager offered me a table next to a big and loud table. I asked for the table right next to it and he proceeded to say no because he feels like there may be a rush later. I don’t feel comfortable sitting next to a large table without social distancing and to have a little more quietness. He still did not want to but I just said I won’t be here long and sat where I wanted anyhow. About two more people came in the whole time I was there so I felt he was just being rude. Also, the waitress was also rude. There were no menus and the small placard saying scan here for a QR code menu was hidden deep in a basket of napkins and straws. She seemed bothered the whole time. Also when your eating spicy food, check on your customers drinks . I had to waive her over as she was just standing in the bar and never checked on me after I got my food . Also the other tables around me were dirty, you would think if they expected a big rush they would make more of an effort for space.
The Szechuan fries looked promising when ordering online. Definitely not the case after I picked up my to-go order, drove 15 min to my destination and had day old chicken, tossed in sauce and sprinkled with green onions to look pretty!! Not satisfied and hangry now!!! 1 Star for the Ranch, 1 Star for the food.
loved this place but now they charge for the 1st sauce even when ordering 3 thighs or other large meals. It’s cheap but feels like a weird money grab as it’s very hard to eat without any sauce. I can understand charging for extra sauce but the first one? Never before at a hot chicken place. Do better.
One of the most offensively slow kitchens i've ever seen in my life. "Offensively slow" because there are about 8 people who are constantly doing prep, and yet for some reason, their orders still take about 20 minutes longer than they are supposed to. This on top of the fact that , as far as anyone with eyes can tell, all of the food is about ninety percent ready to go. There are literal trays of chicken just sitting there that no one seems to grab from. There's one guy who's constantly dunking chicken into the hot oil to make the chicken spicy, the sides are already made. There is absolutely nothing that should make this order take as long as it does. The time between ordering your food and receiving your food should be about 5 minutes, even on a busy night, and the people behind the bar in the kitchen should be drilled like a ballet. Yet, every time I go I find myself waiting 25 plus minutes to get any food. It feels like the restaurant actively deprioritizes to go orders. But again, all of the prep is done, all anyone needs to do is scoop food into containers and package them up. This doesn't take that long. No restaurant with this many people working should be as slow as it is. Absolutely embarrassing one star.

Tumble22: Austin's Hot Chicken Spot with Killer Margs
Alright, y'all, let's chat about a place that's been making some noise in Austin's fried chicken scene: Tumble22. If you're anything like me, a good chicken joint is a must-have in your rotation, and this spot often hits the mark, especially if you catch them on a good day.First off, the chicken itself. When it’s on point, which is often, it’s fantastic. I’ve heard folks rave about the tenders being hot, crispy, and packed with flavor without being overly greasy – a definite win compared to s
