Barolo West Broadway Reviews
Everything about this restaurant is perfect. The atmosphere is warm and inviting and the table placement allows for quiet conversation which is difficult to find these days.. From the moment you walk in all the staff make a huge effort to make you feel welcome and they really go out of their way to please. Our server Narciso helped customize our meal and talked to the chef several times to make sure each dish was prepared exactly as we requested. The wine by the glass list is extensive and like the restaurant name, you have to order a fantastic Barolo of which there are two to choose which is quite rare these days as well. The portions are very generous. The pasta selection is huge and we settled on the special cavatelli made in house with a wonderful beef ragu sauce followed by the perfect Branzino opting for a lemon preparation which kept the fish moist and flakey. We ended the night sharing a delicious profiterole. The meal was paced perfectly and inspite of being crowded that night we were never rushed or hurried. One of the best Italian spots in the city and we are going to be regulars for sure.
lovely place. good atmosphere. wish it was quieter and more intimate and yet, it works. prices are a bit higher but still in the "normal" range for this area of the city. worth checking it out!
Authentic Italian in an understated, elegant, old-world spot. Delicious food - - the Gorgonzola gnocchi sauce was heavenly smooth and decadent. The tiramisu was consumed in 3 solid minutes. I went by myself and did not feel rushed, the pacing was very good and all the staff and management were very attentive and courteous. Timeless and classic place.
I had the pounded out pork chop, breaded fried, finished with lemon. Crispy tender wonderful flavor. We also had Shrimp Parmigiana along with salad. Great night out with friends. Anderson our waiter had the whole menu in his head. Anderson was very helpful enabling each of us to make our dinner decisions.
We were in an Italian mood, wanted to stay local to our hotel (Benjamin Royal Sonesta), and hit the bullseye with this place. We are bar-sitters, but the table areas looked classy also. But, we chose the first seats at the bar, and had a fantastic experience. The bread, the salad, the Gorgonzola pasta, and the Bolognese pasta were all fantastic. Senka was our bartender, and Benny was the manager I kept bothering about how great a place he had. NYC has plenty of options, and I am no expert on all of Midtown. What I CAN say very confidently is that if you are walking, riding in a rideshare, staying ANYWHERE close to this place, and it is dinnertime and you are hungry, you need to stop by. No letdown will occur. Lots of pics below. Definitely recommend and see you there (next time wife and I are in NYC).
Review is a bit late but we finally settled from traveling. We visited on 1/1/2024 for dinner and the whole experience was wonderful. The host was welcoming, and our waiter Paolo walked us through the menu, offered insight to the dishes and was very kind and attentive. The atmosphere was romantic, white table cloth, candle light, very elegant. Our food- oh my gosh our food- amazing. From the bread and dipping sauce, appetizers, salads, to the main course and dessert. Everything was so, so good. I really can’t express it enough, the pasta was amazing and I come from an Italian family, I mean it, it was so good. And their Parmesan!!! So good. Maybe I over did it on my dish but it was yummy. We didn’t have to travel to “little Italy” for classic Italian, this place is it. Bolognese might be a simple dish, but theirs was more than just delicious. I never finish a dish before my boyfriend but this time I did, it was delicious, and if I lived in NY I’d be there again right now. Thank you so much to the staff for making our first dinner as an engaged couple memorable, and thank you to the kitchen for such a delicious meal.
We went on a busy Friday night and were able to get a table with minimal notice. The server was okay, had to ask another staff member to refill water and again where our cocktails were. Overall the food was great. The veal was fantastic, as was the burrata. The gnocchi had a perfect texture, just personally felt like the sauce needed a little more dimension. I think a veggie, pancetta, or something could complement the sharpness. The warm brownie at the end was the perfect capstone for a delicious meal.
Came here for dinner on a Monday night at 8:30pm and the place was at about 50% capacity. We were the last people to leave at 10:30pm. I loved the food! I recommend the fettuccine and also the tiramisu for dessert. This is a perfect date spot, it was very classy and not pretentious.
Beautiful atmosphere, excellent service, and superb food! Highly recommend. The sauce on the Pollo dolce vita was delicious and the homemade tiramasu is a must! They have a wonderful selection of wines at half or whole bottle. We enjoyed everything we ordered and were very satisfied with the whole experience!
Lovely food! We walked in and were seated within a few minutes. We ordered the Buffalo Mozarella and Funghi di Bosco appetizers which were great! For the mains, we got the Gnocchi, the steak entree and the Pollo Dolce Vita. All three were amazing!! Definitely recommend checking the place out. Only complaint was that it was cold inside, and the staff wouldn't leave the heaters on for more than a few despite multiple requests from us.
I sat outside where a sign noted the area to be active for service. However, it took roughly 15 minutes before one of the managers asked if I could be helped; he did not approach me, simply called out from the restaurant to mid street where the seats are placed. The lack of professionalism and unwelcoming tone starts the rating at 2 stars. I was then taken to their patio where it was not crowded, the temperature was perfect and atmosphere was calming; less of a family place, rather more suitable for a romantic moment or professional meeting. The patio was clean and tables stripped per service. I asked the assigned waiter--Andry (phonic spelling)--for suggestion in soup (priced $9 ea.), main course, wine, and desert selection. He was knowledgeable of ingredients for different dishes and pairing of wine for each. I chose the asparagus soup, which I do not recommend as it was bland and...not memorable. Lentil soup's texture and flavor was either great or the change from disappointment made it better. Tangy. Fettuccine with Bolognese sauce is always safe choice; pasta cooked to perfection (al dente), sauce was lightly seasoned allowing the meat and sweetness of tomato sauce to standout. And do not leave without having an espresso or their ice cream and apple crisp desert. Fresh...enough said. Ohh...and do not skip on their bread and sundried tomatoes that is placed at the table. Overall, a 4 star rating for good food and great service provided by Andry. The missing star is for bug in salt shaker, bacteria buildup in bathroom sink, and unwelcoming tone of manager when we first met.
I only came here because my favorite Italian spot was booked for the evening. Like the commenter before me I’m surprised at the higher rating on this restaurant. I’m giving stars for service, delicious wine, dessert, and charming ambiance. The food was mediocre at best. Calamari was cold, tasted frozen and too fishy and the bolognese was so bland very little flavor and the salad was nothing special just an overpriced plate of arugula. I was super disappointed in this meal after reading reviews on the food. The lava cake and ice cream is hard to mess up so we finished with dessert and espresso and it was the best part of the dinner. So if you want wine, dessert, and coffee this may be it but if you want delicious, flavorful Italian this is a no for me dawg. Check out my reviews for the absolute best Italian in nyc.
The bread was the highlight of the night, accompanied with a sun dried tomato oil/sauce that was spectacular. Such a good start to the night that turned to be the worst taste bud experience. The lobster ravioli special was great but stained your nostrils with a seafood smell. Our server recommended the pappardelle with chicken, raving about the fresh pasta - my unborn son could’ve cooked a better pasta dish. The sauce had no taste, unseasoned canned rubbery chicken, the busser asked if we wanted to take it home and the server immediately said “no its okay,” seemingly reading our minds or he just knew better than to take home trash. Otherwise, this spot would be good just to have a dine out night with wine and appetizers.
