Sundog Taproom Winter Park Reviews
Great place at the base. Cool beer tap wall with a large selection of local beer.
The new manager, an enthusiastic blonde woman whose name I did not catch (she had only been there one week) was great. She poured our drinks from the tap—something others have had a problem with—brought out great food and checked back several times. We will return for the great food, service and view and to see how the wonderful new manager is faring. She really made our experience at Sun Dog memorable.
I’ve been here twice and love it! It will be a normal stop while visiting winter park. We love the self serve system- no wait for drinks/tabbing out. & since you pour your own, you can get exactly how much you want- which is nice to try different drinks or if you don’t want to drink a ton. The draft cocktails are the best I’ve had. Normally I don’t like tap cocktails, but theirs are good. The salt, limes, & oranges are a great plus! The credit card holding charge has come off my card quickly each time without any issues. Haven’t tried the food yet but want to! Definitely recommend you check it out :)
The food is so great here! And the staff is super friendly. It's a different concept with pour your own beer with 40-some taps on the wall. I'm not a drinker and was just there for the food. Awesome pizza and a super fresh kale salad! And a very tasty panini. And kid-friendly! Right at the base by the gondola!
We went here today for a quick post hike lunch and had a good time! It is expensive, but that’s to be expected for a ski resort. I like the pour your own beer style of the place and the employees are super friendly. I got the caprese panini and it was really good for a lunch. We sat on the patio which had a great view of everything going on outside too.
It’s a pour your own drink by the ounce place. The food is quick and yummy but pricey, along with the drinks being pricey. Overall great for a ski resort, just you gotta spend more. There are fun drinks on draft like a bourbon high ball, an aperol spritz, root beer etc, and about 25 different beer selections with a cider or two involved. I liked that you just get a wristband at the front, then you can use Apple Pay or card whenever you want a refill. It’s semi intuitive, and the food is ordered via QR code and you pick it up at a window. I will definitely return because the bartenders were fun and helpful.
Food was decent but the cashier messed up one part of our order, which upset my wife. Also, the waiter was pretty rude to a customer who I guess didn’t hear his name called to get his food. I kind of like the novel concept of buying beer by the ounce but they have to work some more kinks out of the system still. For example, I thought I was buying a 0% ABV beer but the 0% in fact meant the keg was empty.
Food was very tasty. But took a long time without order after getting a number, had to dig through receipts when asked if our order was ready. Don’t blame the staff but management might want to look into getting more help imo.
The cool part about this place is that you pour your own beer from a wall of taps. And you must follow the instructions above the taps to a tee. I didn’t like all the foam I had to pay for from taps that dribbled the beer out more than poured. An employee told me that they factored the wasted foam into the pricing. Seems like eliminating the foam would work better. Can’t comment on the food since I didn’t get any. I had no issues with the employees whose jobs were to essentially assist more than serve.
This place could be great. But it's not. The idea is you select a beer from a touchscreen, pay, and then pour it yourself. The problem is the beer is very expensive, and the taps aren't adjusted correctly. So your expensive beer comes out at 100 miles an hour making it impossible to not end up with a ton of foam. You then have to track down an employee who can come and adjust the tap. You'd think, at this point, you would get a fresh new beer. Nope. You're given another half beer and are told that that's a fair amount of beer. So here I am with my two flat half beers writing about my disappointment.
Decided to try their dry cider as they were out of any sours. Poured just a little as I wasn’t sure I’d like it. Sucks they have you tap your card for $16 before you even pour. I got charged $16 and a charge for $2.82 was declined instead of the other way around. Brought this to the staff’s attention and they said it would reverse in 30mins. Informed them that my wife’s $16 charge was reversed instantly and only got charged ~$5 (we used the same card). They asked if I wanted another beer instead for free but I didn’t so they went to get their manager. She comes out and I explain everything to her and she just says if it’s not reversed in 24 hours to call them as their accountant is not on site on weekends. I asked what they would do in 24 hrs if it’s not reversed, I did not get an answer. My wife asked if she could just give another beer for free and was basically told no. We even asked if we can get refunded the $16 and just pay $2.82. Below is a photo of how much beer I poured. Daaaang, $16 for that. Def would not have cared if I actually poured $16 worth of beer. Disappointed at the lack of customer service here.
The lady with bangs and glasses working was so incredibly rude. Talking to everyone like they are stupid including the other staff working here. I understand most people don’t know how to pour their own beer… but yelling at employees in front of customers is just weird. Didn’t have the food.
Waited for 35 minutes to place an order. Would have left but it was raining. Manager was the only person working...could not remember our order, forgot what we ordered and brought things we did not order. Ice cold, dry and very hard pizza was what we got after waiting. What a waste of time and money.
My friends and I decided to try SunDogs since we’ve never been there before. I’ve certainly experienced a first here, I was not expecting a fast food vibe here. You can basically seat yourself wherever, and when you’re ready to order you have to go to the cashier. I was pleasantly surprised by not having a server, it was interesting and a very unique idea. The only complaints that I have is that the cashier was very rude and on his phone the whole time as well as my friends food order being “lost”. We all ordered the same thing, 2 of us got our food in a timely manner, but then we were waiting for a solid 10 minutes before going up and asking where our 3 order was. There needs to be some changes so this doesn’t happen again. I will try sundogs again in the future but currently not at this moment.
The beer tap was extremely inadequate with too much head with no relief from being charged for getting very little beer. Oh and they didn’t have hot chocolate which one would expect in a coffee shop. We were charged and got nothing. Not good!!! “I’d rather drink a warm PBR in the blue room on a construction site in July, than hang out in this place.”
Avoid this place. Took an hour to get a couple hot chocolates for our kids. They never called out number and we had to nag them. Then when we finally got them, they served them in hot mugs and told us they were out of whipped cream and marshmallows. Zero service. It’s like no one is working here.
Absolutely insane wait time for food. Took a legit 30 minutes before getting one pizza and the place wasn’t busy at all. You also have to pour your own beer, and the taps never work. Would not recommend this place. Not sure how it’s still open honestly.
Do NOT go here!! Doc’s next door is much much better. It looks like they have a lot of beers on tap to pick from but they don’t. There were lots of people upset about no selection and poor service. There were only two people working. Most of the taps are empty or very foamy. It could be a cool place to hang out if they could keep the taps going right.
Pay $5 for a cup of foam and then have the dumb waitresses tell you you need to “tilt the glass” like you haven’t already been. Absolute waste of time. ALL the taps DO NOT WORK because the kegs are 200 feet away in another building, so all the hoses just foam Again, the dumb waitresses will straight up lie to you I about it and charge you $5 for foam, but the manager straight up admits it’s broken and basically robbery unless you ask for a comped glass.
The self poor system is hard to use and the beers pour foamy. The free water from a manual tap however works great. The prices are very high. The idea is there, but the execution is terrible. The pizza is pretty good but the paninis were average.
ZERO STARS for this place. We came here yesterday at around 1pm to get some beers after boarding. I was curious about the concept and wanted to try it out. I got 12 ounces of a hefeweizen without a hitch, but my wife got screwed over by their credit card machine. Her transaction was apparently “declined” but she was able to pour $2.82 worth of beer. However, when I looked at my credit card transactions online, only my $16 got refunded and I got charged the appropriate amount for my beer, but my wife’s transaction was stuck at $16. No refund. Mind you, we used the same credit card. Two of the staff interestingly offered us free beer to compensate, but when we asked for the manager, she said that their “accountant” was not there on weekends so they can’t do anything about it until the day after. She told us to call back if the transaction still hasn’t been reversed after 24 hours, and lo and and behold, it has not been reversed after 24 hours. My wife just called the place now, and the person who answered the phone said that there was no manager on duty today. Like how hard is it to just give us $13 back??? You’d rather lose a customer forever than do right by us? Well you just lost a customer forever and end up with a nasty review that will probably affect your ratings. Do better, SunDog. Maybe hire some better managers who actually know how to do service recovery.
This was my first time in and was not familiar with the process. A male attendant helped me at the front desk area after waiting for at least 5 min and rudely informed me with a don’t you know how this works kinda attitude the credit card machines are on the wall next to the taps you wish to sample. There’s no signs saying it’s a help your self environment. I thanked him and had one drink. For a place that just opening you think their would have been a bit more pleasantries. At lease for a few weeks to see how it all plays out. Nope right of the back they want you to know you are interrupting the gaze out the window wishing they were somewhere else!!
