Truchas Xico Reviews
Definitely a very good place for eating trout. Fresh as this is a local farm located in the mountains. It has way more options in case you don't eat fish. Staff is very friendly and nice. Location is pretty nice with amazing views. It can get cold so make sure you carry some jackets with you. Most of the sitting is outdoor. You can get by car, road is ok, but trucks and jeeps are recommended. Prices are very good compared to portions and quality of the food. Zarzaparrilla is the local recommended drink, it is made of a root but it tastes very nice and fresh.
Excellent place to take a stroll with the family or celebrate a special occasion. Delicious food, and a great place for recreation and relaxation. Walk around, admire the scenery, mingle with nature, and even with the animals they have on site. It has very beautiful spaces for photo shoots: the forest, the river that runs through it, the flowers, the animals, etc. It's not cheap, but the experience and the place are completely worth it.
A highly recommended place. Incredible views, delicious dishes and drinks. A unique experience that everyone should try once in their life and during their visit to Xico Viejo. You can request a table next to the river, which offers incredible peace. Enjoy the scenery while you enjoy it.
I came with my family looking for copper and struck gold with this incredible place. It offers a family-friendly atmosphere where you can enjoy your meal inside or outside, admiring the river that runs through it, the small zoo, and the trout farm. The breakfast is delicious—there's heart in every dish. The coffee is exquisite, along with hot chocolate and delicious bread. I highly recommend the grilled cheese.
A beautiful restaurant with delicious food
Beautiful atmosphere at a trout farm by a river.
Very interesting restaurant in nature. Rabbits, ducks and deer wander around the outdoor seating
Nice
The road to Xico Viejo needs maintenance and has several potholes, but nothing too worrisome considering you can't go fast. The place is so beautiful! Aesthetically, it's very pleasing as it blends well with nature. The tables by the river are perfect, and the small canals between them complement the setting beautifully. The grilled trout was quite tasty, and the portions seemed just right. I recommend the milpa soup as an appetizer; it's delicious whether you're vegetarian or not. They initially brought us refried beans with cheese and tortilla chips, which were also very good. The service was excellent; the waitress was very attentive, and the food arrived quickly (keep in mind that I visited during the week, so the experience might vary). As for prices, I think everything was fine except for the drinks, which I found expensive. $55 for a coffee with milk? 😅 It was tasty, but I thought it was a bit pricey. After lunch, you can explore the grounds and observe the animals that live there. They have deer, peacocks, many birds, and, of course, plenty of trout. It's a very pleasant place to escape the city; the food is delicious, and you can enjoy it even before you arrive. I highly recommend it, and I would definitely return.
We ordered gorditas, melted cheese with sausage, tamarind trout, and a chipotle trout, accompanied by a pitcher of sarsaparilla. The place offers a pleasant experience with the small aviary, rabbits, and trout ponds. The food usually takes a while to be served, but the stage sets for beautiful photos and videos will be a delight.
Very beautiful place surrounded by nature. Delicious food and an extensive menu. The road is in bad shape, very deteriorated, with lots of potholes. But it's worth it once you arrive. It's very beautiful. (My bad experience is that I left my glasses on the table—they're my everyday glasses—and they haven't responded to me through any of the channels they advertise. I even sent them a photo of where I was sitting and a photo showing my glasses, and they haven't returned my call or message.)
The place is super nice, and the people are very friendly. However, we were disappointed to see that they had the restaurant's refrigerator full of COSTCO products like vegetables, milk, etc. from the American brand KIRKLAND... they use milk from tetra packs instead of fresh milk from the local cows... THEY SHOULD SUPPORT THE LOCAL ECONOMY instead of buying from US supermarkets... We bought raw trout to take back and cook in our cabin. The employee conditioned us to cut them only if we gave him money. Otherwise, the place is a lovely place to visit.
The place is very nice, but I didn't like that they don't let you sit wherever you want. You're supposed to go there for the view. They only told us that it wasn't reserved, but that the table was for more people. We were 7, and the table was for 12. It was never occupied during our stay.
Yesterday, December 26, 2025, there were 25 of us, and the food was terrible. Some dishes were okay, others not so bad, but everything was bland, lacking seasoning, and cold. The portions were average, but the seafood dish was awful—no stew, no sides... The service was good, attentive, and they tried to compensate with food and drinks, and even offered one dish free of charge... But I won't be back. The place itself is nice, clean, and has a great atmosphere; families, couples, etc., are all there.
Love the free Mini Zoo, but reservation system needs to improve
