Easily the best bar in the city for watching a game and getting dinner. Great tap list with tons of Eastern European beers and all the food is so good. Chicken kebabs are phenomenal, burgers are tasty, hummus plate is incredible, and the pizzas are all great. Honestly, nothing here is bad.
It's been a while since I've been to Bistro Gambrinus (ever since moving out of state), but all I know is that if Neil is still running the place, it is an amazing place to eat and drink. I spent many hours in this place over the course of two years while I live a couple of blocks away. It's a very unassuming store front, but the food is incredible and the drinks always hit the spot. I've never before or since had a place where I felt so at home. A friend and I used to frequent this place after work or for a game over the weekends, and we'd always have great conversations with the staff and other patrons. When friends talk about visiting SF, I always recommend Bistro Gambrinus to them!
One of the best local bar and restaurants in San Francisco. I personally love their burger (get the fried egg on top) and a beer. The chicken tenders and hummus plate are great too though. I can’t recommend this place enough. Neil is awesome.
Casual pub. Nice service and solid food. USF supporter.
The beers. To say that this place is a good neighborhood watering hole would be an understatement and oddly western. This place has a surprising amount of beers on tap and a variety that I have never before seen. The food, the atmosphere, and yes, the beers, are all Eastern European/Germanish, and it is easy to imagine that you are sitting in a bar in Europe. Its not until I leave and walk back into the fog (that could also be the beers) that I realize I am in The City. One last note- The beers.
This spot is 10/10. I have been a bunch. The beer is always excellent and so is the food. Great burger, pizza, and german food. Neil is a great and friendly guy.
This place is very friendly, low key and fun to watch a game on several big TV's. The food is exceptional and not what you would expect from such a place. Fresh, we'll seasoned and prepared to perfection. I got the Swiss, bacon, mushroom burger and my wife ordered the Greek salad with grilled chicken. Great feta and calamata olives on fresh, crisp greens made this delightful. The burger was cooked perfectly and had a brilliant open flame bite throughout. Prices are incredibly reasonable and we will make this a regular stop when we visit our daughter at USF, which is close by.
Love this spot. Our favorite casual drop in for good food, great beer and awesome sports viewing if you want. Any of the German food options is 👌🏼. Neil is an awesome barman / host.
If you are looking for a nice pub with a great environment, maybe even watch your favourite sports, this is the place for you. Great quality of food, I was greatly impressed! The strogonoff is a must! Now they even have outdoor sitting and indoor sitting! With control of number of people who can be inside.
Great selection of European beer here. Excellent service and great comfort food. If you're having a party, they have an amazing meat platter available (you have to order this in advance).
Cozy bar with great selection of imported and seasonal beer. Great atmosphere! I have been coming here for 2 Years and always enjoy myself. Neil is amazingly friendly and kind. I'm a customer for life
A great place to hang out with my friends. Very close to USF. Haven't seen any USF grad students yet, but it is Summer.
My absolute favourite place in the city to go for great beer and food. Don't think this is just a bar, they have an amazing kitchen. You definitely can't go wrong
Love coming here for a boot every once in a while. Food is delicious, it's packed for Warriors games, right by USF so a young and happy crowd. Stop by and try the Mac and cheese!
High quality food, an awesome European beer selection, plenty of options on the menu, and really good service. One of our favorite spots in the city.
Perfect place to get well-priced, delicious food. If you like beer, it's got plenty of taps and a solid selection for any preference.
They have a good bistro menu and the bar menu is good too. Hard to go wrong no matter what you get.
Many San Franciscan's were upset about Old Krakow closing, as it was the hub for Polish Food. Well take some of the menu from that, slam it with russian food and a wide range of some of the rarest East European Beers on tap, and you have Bistro Gambrinus. For polish people and non polish people who love polish food, rest assure, this place has quality! Get the Perogis, and the Cherry Beer ( from Lithuania I believe ). Also I recommend coming back for a soccer match, esp for world cup, euros, champions league, europa, or league play. This puts the handle in the Panhandle :)
Looking for a chilled spot to grab a drink? Amazing selection of hard to find beer. Great European pub style fair and warm atmosphere. Gambrinus loves up to its name. Easy, friendly pub, and Nael is an absolute gem.
The chicken kebab is incredible and healthy salads are also on the menu. Neil is a wonderful, funny and hard working bartender that will make sure you are well taken care of!
An amazing place to watch a game for sure. Neil, the owner, is incredibly nice and always willing to go above and beyond! The beer selection is fantastic and they have other options for those who aren’t too keen. The food is always piping hot and delicious, especially with them having a variety of items on the menu. The atmosphere itself is quiet, quaint, and warm. Everyone that frequents here is super nice and I can’t recommend it enough if you’re around the area. Perfect for game day or a quiet night at the bar.
This was easily one of the best meals I’ve had in San Francisco. The menu isn’t enormous but everything on it is fantastic, and I genuinely mean that. We got the Hunters Sausage and the Chicken Kabab, and they were both perfect. The sausage was smokey and well cooked, the potatoes were really well seasoned, and the sauerkraut was nice and light. The chicken was perfectly cooked, and the roast veggies were simple but, again, perfect. In short, everything here is really really really good, and to top it of the owner is a great guy. If you’re looking for somewhere to go support right now, this is a really great place and deserves every ounce of support.
Clean, friendly, neighborhood bar/pub with a great selection of beer and delicious food! The owner is awesome! 😎 And his clientele, too. 🤘🏽
Such a great neighborhood spot with great affordable food. Get the schnitzel!!!
Delicious food, large portions, and top-notch service. Highly recommend!
First impressions, great. Special beer selection, calm atmosphere with a euro, german style. Looking forward for another visit, with different orders.
If you’re in the area do yourself a favor and stop by this place. The food is fantastic, and Neil is great at hospitality. Everything is absolutely delicious so you can’t go wrong with what you choose. It also has many amazing televisions so it is a perfect place to watch sports. Gambrinus = very nice

Great schnitzel, burger, and beer. Very glad I found this place after way too many years in the city.
Great beer and food. Relaxing atmosphere. Highly recommended place! 🍺

Great schnitzel, burger, and beer. Very glad I found this place after way too many years in the city.
Great beer and food. Relaxing atmosphere. Highly recommended place! 🍺
Great little pub with exceptional food.
Great European food especially the schnitzel and stroganoff. Beer choices are always great with a majority euro selection including dark and light polish, German, and Belgium beers. I have been going to this place sporadically over the years and am just now reviewing it. Love this spot and hope it stays for years to come.
First time visit. Really delicious dishes and a nice beer selection! I will definitely come back!
Best local sports bar in NOPA - order the chicken wings, bbq pizza, chicken piccata or mixed sausage plate 🔥 Neil is the man and has great beer on tap 🍻
Got a beer boot (very cheap!), by far one of the best chicken wings I ever got in the Bay Area and an authentic pork schnitzel! Absolutely recommended !
Good beer and yummy food - what more do you need? I especially like the czecvar beer paired with the bacon mac n cheese! Plus the bar tender is a nice guy!

I had dinner with my wife and a friend here on a weeknight in May. This is the sort of place that improves the neighborhood and offers a slightly less than typical menu. I had the Bavarian Sausage entree and a couple glasses of the house red wine. It's a bit of a sport bar as well, with three tv's unobtrusively placed around the bar. Our overall experience was very nice and I'd gladly eat here again.
Tasty onion rings, pesto veggie pizza was a bit too salty but a good crust, smoked hunter's sausage was excellent with tasty pesto potatoes and sauerkraut, and the BBQ burger was juicy and flavorful. Not impressed with the pulled pork mac-n-cheese - the pulled pork was food but the macaroni was overcooked and the cheese sauce was ho-hum. Server was personable and prompt.
Nice food, very good bier selection .the staff was friendly. There was a high chair for kids: I don't remember seeing a kids menu. It is directly on a major bus line and next to a bus stop.
Good selection of brews and the California burger on a toasted brioche bun was good with bacon and avocado. Now available for delivery until the crisis allows inside libations and dining.
Positives: It's a pub with pub food and a pub environment. The bartender at 5 o'clock on a Saturday was a nice guy and it quickly filled up by 6. I had the pulled pork sandwich and a beer on tap. Negatives: Some of the menu items were out or I would have had a different beer; additionally the outdoors lamps are for show only until they get the proper permits. Still, the bartender came by these things so honestly. I think they'll have improved by next time.
I used to come here over the years especially when a friend lived up the street. Neil fixed it up quite a bit. Their good has certainly gotten better too. Tried the fish and chips. The fries were thin and crispy. The fish came in 3 pieces with tartar sauce, vinegar and another dip that was red and spicier than ketchup. There is a wide beer selection and they always have a nice Chardonnay for me. They also have pub quizzes there.
Good Pub food at a decent price. Friendly and quick service, pretty noisy.
Huge portions, reasonable prices. Had Wings n Fries n a huge beer. 8/10 would recommend.

Nice pub, but the bartender is standoffish
Cool spot on Fulton and Masonic. They have a killer selection of good beers from around the world; mostly European. A lot of stuff you don't typically see on tap. They also have a kitchen which serves up some decent bar food. Not a great spot to watch the game as they are limited in TV's but it still works. Service is very good and the place never seems too crowded. Good local spot. Reasonable prices for food and drink.
It's so hard giving this place a 3 cause the entree is really good. I loved every bit of the main dish. I just think that the brussule spouts as an app was burnt to bits and I really didn't want to pay for it.

Great atmosphere bad food. I decided to come in here for an early dinner around 5/6pm. The atmosphere was very nice and had a good vibe. The bartender greeted us very politely and told us to sit anywhere. We ordered a hummus plate as a starter. This was an incredible tasting appetizer with some of the better hummus I’ve had. The pita had some black grill or oven soot on top but it wasn’t a big deal and it was still fantastic; the olives, cherry tomatoes, and cucumber were all very fresh and tasty. For a main dish I ordered their basic burger. My food came out in a timely manner and presentation wise it looked great. The fries were indistinguishable from McDonald’s but in a good way, they hit the spot! The burger on the other hand was one of the worst I’ve ever had. The patty was inconsistently cooked with pockets of pink but large sections closer to medium well (ordered medium). The patty was very fatty and chewy eat bite taking at least a minute to get down. The bun was also toasted poorly and chewy as well. The biggest offense though was the produce. The tomato slices on both burgers we ordered were very much not ripe, the pickles were discolored and tasted rather old, and the lettuce was also chewy and had specs of black all along the edges (not consistent with usual wilt). This seems like a great social place to get drinks and appetizers but if you want a full meal I’d recommend you keep looking.

This was probably the most annoying experience I’ve ever encountered at a San Francisco restaurant. The food was marginal at best but the real issue was that one person (who I believe is the owner) attempts to serve everyone in the restaurant. As you can image the service was poor but the real kicker is that they include an Automatic Gratuity of 20% and we were only a party of three. Furthermore, they suggest that you tip an additional amount on the credit card slip hoping you may have missed the automatic gratuity on the bill since it was in such small print. And if that isn’t enough, there’s a 4% additional charge on the total bill if you use a credit or debit card to cover the discount rate they pay the bank which is probably lower than the 4% they are charging the customer. Talk about feeling like someone got in your pocket. No thanks! Never again.
