One of the best no-nonsense craft beer bars in the country. It's a cash only spot with an ATM inside. You absolutely need you ID to get in. Once you've decided off the board what you want, just wait, the beertenders have already clocked you and they'll be there with you in order. Don't wave them down. Know what you want to order. When it's not terribly busy, you can ask for recommendations based on your preferred style. Such an iconic spot to enjoy a pint!
Had a great first visit to Toronado! Charlie was super friendly and took care of my group. I bought some merch that I wore the next day at a conference and got lots of compliments from the locals attending. Will be back soon!
We had a great time visiting this craft beer institution. The beer list is amazing, as expected. Despite, the many reviews about the bartenders' negative attitudes, we found our bartender to be friendly and attentive. We would definitely return!
I’ll say up front that the atmosphere might not be for everyone but it is for me. The music is loud and hard, it dimly lit and filled with beer memorabilia from floorboards to ceiling. It’s awesome. The beer selection is awesome. Not a single big brewery on tap. I love it. If you want to introduce yourself to a very large variety of the best regional brews around, this is your place. I love it.
Every style of beer available from multiple makers and multiple styles of each make! Only location remaining that carries room temperature noncarbonated cask beer like the 1900's. (My favorite) Over 40 in draft/tap, bottles and cans totaling over a hundred at all times! Also has lower($3-$6) and higher prices($8-$30) depending on your mood! Staff is polite until you ask for something they don't have! All the drinks can be looked up online on their website (toronado drink list)with the oz size, alcohol content percentages and price so you can walk in sounding like you been there before!!! If they give you a hard time make sure you laugh because It's all for a fun time and they test you like that to make sure you don't walk in drunk! Customers are really nice there too!
I've been to San Francisco just three times so far in my life and proud to say each time I spent some quality time at the Toronado. Amazing beer selection (including some cask), endlessly cool jukebox and a wonderfully dingy atmosphere.

November 2024: First time here after hearing many great things about the bar. The beer on tap selection was very impressive. Many local top breweries were available including a long list from Russian River & Cellarmaker. Also had some hard to find breweries including Sante Adarius, Pure project. I tried a Full Petal IPA from Sante Adarius which was excellent 👍. They let you bring in food. We had sausages from Berliner Berliner that paired well with the 🍻. Service was fine. Lots of reviews talk about how the bartenders are rude. I didn't have that experience. Would definitely come back again.
Went here on a Wednesday afternoon. Parking not too hard to find and it wasn't too busy. What can be said about this place? It's legendary in the craft beer industry! Great, hard-to-find beers on tap, reasonably priced, a good to-go selection, great vintage bottle list and very dive-bar environment. CASH ONLY! Overall, this is one of the mecca destinations for craft beer bars. Go!
What a phenomenal place to stumble upon. I dive craft beer bar with welcoming regulars. Cash only but they have an atm. They were showing multiple early 90s dystopian films during our visit. If I lived in SF I’d absolutely be a regular here.

One of the top five craft beer bar's in the US. Been going for years whenever I'm in SF. You will always find a rare one or a craft brewery you never heard of. Many breweries on tap with multiple options. They always seem to have cask(handpump) Moonlight Brewing beers! German beers too. Heavy metal tunes too. Dont forget Cash only....

Beer Mecca. The Holiest of Beer Halls. Come here thirsty and leave here happy. Toronado will always be my go to recommendation for a drinking institution in SF. Been a loyal customer here for over 10 years and I look forward to many more. Cash only, and tip your bartender! Been hooked ever since Justin served me my first pint of pliny here.
What a place! Was really excited to visit and loved it! Sometimes bars spend a lot of money to get the right atmosphere, Toronado doesnt do that, but has atmosphere and character in abundance! It's the kind of place that lets their beer selection do the talking...and it talks a LOT! Could easily have spent the day admiring the Beer Taps on the wall! A place not to be missed!

It's been a minute since I last called in here, and it's lost none of its charm despite a recent change in ownership. Superb beers, a great atmosphere (whether there's a game on or not), a jukebox with a decent record selection and surly bar staff. But hey... be efficient and precise with your order, pay cash, and tip them. That's all they want. You don't have to try and make friends with them and that works for me. HOWEVER... the overpowering smell of vomit on this particular Sunday afternoon was almost unbearable. Even after a few beers, there was no pretending that the smell of butyric acid wasn't going to go away. Was I going to raise this matter with the bar staff? No way. Another beer please. Unfortunately, two stars deducted on this occasion.

I came in with high hopes given the extensive tap list, but I left shocked by the service. After a peaceful first drink, the atmosphere shifted instantly. The bartender became aggressive during my second drink, the bartender physically took the beer away from me because I didn't provide an immediate tip on the second pour. I was told that my second drink was now the tip. I was then told to leave. It’s rare to find a place that actively pushes customers out the door. Avoid.
The worst experience ever! I’m visiting from out of San Francisco, and both the guy at the door and the bartender were extremely rude and obnoxious. People come here to relax and enjoy, not to deal with such rude men who have no sense of decency. I’ll never come here again.
