Coming here was a great decision. Not only was the food impeccable but our server Phoebe made the experience top notch. We had the 3 satay app (chicken, shrimp, and lamb), the lobster noodles, the duck, the chocolate cookie dessert with cream cheese ice cream and cappuccinos. The satays were all seasoned differently and told different stories on the same plate. The lobster noodles had a good kick and gave so much flavor and thickness. The duck was cooked to perfect and melted in your mouth. The dessert sounded insane at first, cream cheese ice cream? But we were told this is actually common for this culture to combine cheese and chocolate and that the cheese is not overwhelming. And it was accurate. One of the best desserts. Phoebe walked us through the entire menu and recommended everything we had the entire night including our mocktails. 5 star service :)

Exceptional food and beautiful atmosphere. The staff was warm and accommodating, and the menu was delicious. Our favorite bites were the octopus, sashimi, corn fritters (a must!), and the pandan custard. My only complaint was that the front room, despite their attempts to shield it from the cold, was still pretty drafty, so I recommend wearing something a little warmer if you are sitting in the front room and are prone to getting cold. The front room also gets fairly busy as people are waiting for their tables, so I would recommend sitting in the back dining area for a more relaxed and cozy atmosphere.

My friend recommended Wayan and I’m really glad I finally tried it. The vibe is great, and our waitress was super friendly and helpful. Drinks were on point. We ordered the lobster noodles and the pork ribs — both were amazing and absolutely worth trying. Easily 100/10, would come back again.

Wandered in here with no planning, and glad we did, food was delicious. Atmosphere was great too, and service was attentive. Will definitely be back!!

Best dining experience. The chef executes the blend of french and Indonesian cuisine perfectly. I love rendang Escargot. Anyway definitely recommend this place! Enjoy my pictures

The interior was literally like a piece of art and we actually couldn't choose whether to sit in the front or the back (because they were two different vibes). We came for the lobster noodles that were all over our Instagram feeds, but the mie goreng and the sea bass were really flavorful. I didn't know the banana sundae would come with ube ice cream, so that was a delicious surprise. Portion sizes were medium. There was some service confusion for a large table that sat next to ours, but our server was amazing and guided us through the menu, which was helpful because it was our first time trying Indonesian food.

Positively perfect from beginning to end. The portions were on the smaller side but I thought the prices were very fair all things considered. Food quality was top notch, and of course the atmosphere was impeccable. 12/10, will definitely be back.

The interior is very eye-pleasing and overall creates a serene atmosphere. It was hard to choose out of so many different options, but the waiter gave us great suggestions and every dish tasted amazing. I still think about this place although it’s been a while since I went. This would be one of the restaurants I’d bring friends visiting NYC to.

Stopped in for a quick dinner at the bar and was very pleased within the lobster noodles & the scallops. Noodles were the perfect level of spice & flavor. Had a Cherry Breeze mocktail & the bartender gave me a scoop of mango sorbet. Service was on point even as more people trickled in for dinner. The restaurant looks beautiful. They also have outdoor seating. I’d definitely eat here again & try something else on the menu. Appetizer + entree + cocktail + tip was about $100.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in New York City. We came here for brunch because I was craving their French toast. Kid you not, I have dreams about their Crispy Pandan French toast. It's perfectly sweet with the kaya jam and roasted pineapple on top. The vegetable spring rolls are awesome. I like the green sauce it came with. I also love their chickpea skewers. How do they get the chickpea mash to stick on the skewer???? The Avocado Gado Toast is really delicious and pretty. Their sides are incredible. I always order the corn fritter because corn. Don't forget dessert. The Pandan custard is my favorite with the passion fruit seeds. My friend thought the passion fruit overpowered the custard, but I don't agree. Service here is also excellent.

Such a fun dining experience! Absolutely loved the vibe and the service was phenomenal. Food was served very quickly and served as ready. This was more than enough food for two people and we didn’t finish everything. Favorite dish was the lobster noodles by far—was so buttery and flavorful. The lamb satay sweet chili sauce was also phenomenal and the golden sweet potatoes were cooked so perfectly with the crispy outside and the ability to be cut with a spoon. Corn fritters side was also a fun unique addition. Would definitely recommend!

I am late making this review. I visited Wayan back in December 2024 with a group of friends and the atmosphere was awesome, lively but still perfect to not be shouting over each other. The food was good and tasty, the veggies were bright, ordered the mango salad twice because it was that good, the rice was delicious; the satays were very good. Overall a great experience.

The lobster noodles are one of my favorite dishes of all time. The steak was good as well. They're just somewhat simple dishes and small portion sizes considering the price.

Good cocktails, great desserts. Entrees are ok, warm dining area with kitchen visible from one of the tables.

We really enjoyed the Lobster Noodles and the Caramelized Beef Tenderloin—both were standouts of the meal. The service and atmosphere were also very good, which made for a nice dining experience. However, overall, the food didn’t quite live up to the high price point. The seasonal Tamarind Citrus Salad wasn’t to our liking, but aside from that, I’d rate the food about 3.5/5

Food was okay but the closest thing to Indonesian is only the corn fritters, it’s simple but good. We come here usually only for the lobster noodles, we tried a lot of food here but nothing really stand out. But definitely try the lobster noodle!

Wayan is one of those places where everything just works. From the moment we arrived, the service was excellent, attentive, thoughtful, and never overbearing. The atmosphere is cozy and polished, with a comfortable energy. Not too loud or too quiet, just right for a relaxed dinner or a nice evening out. The food was consistently good though each dish blurred into the next. The whole meal flowed in a way that made it feel special without being fussy, but there wasn't particularly anything remarkable of the savory dishes .. Dessert really stood out though! The passion fruit pudding was light and bright, and the warm cookie with cheese ice cream was unexpected and delicious. Easily one of the most memorable parts of the meal. The bartender was great, friendly and generous with information and recommendations. He gave us a couple of free drinks and even remembered that one person in our group doesn’t drink, bringing out a thoughtful non-alcoholic option without being asked. Overall, Wayan delivers. Great food, great service, and a space that feels welcoming and easy to enjoy.

Wayan is a nice try at Indonesian fusion — ambitious, but falls short of a home run. Food would've been 4 stars but I docked a star for poor value. We ordered a raw fish appetizer, escargot rendang, crispy baby squid, cucumber mango salad, sate, crab fried rice, and steamed black sea bass. Portions are small and best experienced family style. Good for sampling, but not great value. Flavors ranged from excellent to disappointing. The cilantro sauce on the squid was a standout, while the rendang was bland (couldn't even imagine saying this about rendang ever) and the crab fried rice was overwhelmingly salty. The raw fish didn’t taste fresh — a common issue at many NYC spots unless you’re dining high-end, and a noticeable letdown for anyone coming from the West Coast. Service was friendly, but they forgot our sate. Worth noting that it wasn't a particularly busy evening. We didn’t notice until we left, and while the vibe was great and we still had fun, the food didn’t quite live up to the hype.\ Won't be back. Plenty of other spots in the city to check out.

The food is indeed bland, but also wayyyyy too spicy. Don’t get the eggplant side, 1 bite and you’ll die. Atmosphere is great but overall agree that it is overrated.

An interesting concept on paper, but the Indonesian-French fusion unfortunately the flavor just didn’t hit the mark. We tried several of the restaurant's most popular items, yet we’ve found better versions of every single dish at other Indonesian and Asian spots across the city for better value. Ironically, our favorite part of the meal was the dessert—the Pandan Custard. When the highlight of a savory dinner is the custard, it says a lot about the main courses.

More of a 3.5 because the service and atmosphere were great but the food didn’t land. I was expecting a little more creative because I love Indonesian The star of the show was the Pandan passion fruit custard… honestly would not go back for the food, but would come back for the dessert. The lobster noodles and corn fritters were good, the tenderloin was okay but the Indonesian flavors fell flat, same for the escargo which was a miss. All in the portions are quite small and unimpressive for the price, you’re definitely going more for the vibes.

I really wanted to like this place and it was good. The food was fine (the corn side and the scallop skewers were the standouts), the service was fine and the decor was beautiful. It was just an overall underwhelming dining experience...the prices were too high for the portion and quality. While I'm no expert on Indonesian food, I definitely wasn't enlightened by this dining experience. The dish I was excited to try thanks to the hype was the lobster noodles - they were ok. Everyone in my group agreed...we weren't upset by the meal. It was fine, but we all agreed that once was enough.

A sleek spot with a compact menu of contemporary Indonesian-inspired dishes. While the food was enjoyable, the flavors didn’t fully land, with more emphasis on presentation and vibe than authenticity. The satay skewers were on the smaller side for the price - the chicken was nicely nutty and the scallop tasted fresh, though the lamb leaned a bit dry. The hamachi tartare had a fun crunch from the crispy rice, and the octopus was a clear highlight with a great char and tender texture. The lobster noodles were flavorful and peppery, though the use of lobster felt more like a gimmicky twist than something essential to the dish. Overall, it’s a stylish spot with thoughtfully prepared plates, but the flavors leaned more refined and fusion than hearty or inventive.

I don’t normally leave Google reviews. I’m not someone who looks for problems, and I usually go into restaurants without huge expectations, I’m generally easy to please. But what happened today honestly pushed me to write this, and I’m sorry to have to do so. Today my partner and I went to Wayan and ordered the Restaurant Week menu. We also decided to try the escargot rendang, because we’re always open to new flavors and it sounded great. For the Restaurant Week menu, we both ordered the same items: First course: Sate Maranggi Second course: Chicken Lombok The escargot rendang, unfortunately, was a complete disaster. It tasted genuinely burnt, overly smoky, with a strong “burnt” flavor, and worst of all it was extremely salty. I truly hope the chef tries it as served (New York location), because it did not taste like a dish that should have left the kitchen. The Sate Maranggi was the one bright spot, it was tasty and enjoyable, and we ate it happily. But the worst experience was the Chicken Lombok. There was nothing “wow” about it (it felt like a basic baked chicken in tomato sauce), and on top of that it arrived severely burnt. The burnt taste was impossible to ignore. As for the drink: my partner ordered a Diet Coke. Honestly, I’m still wondering, did we order a Coke, or just a glass of ice? Because it felt like either the drink was mostly ice, or someone accidentally poured only a small amount of soda into it. We walked in genuinely excited, especially because my partner is Indonesian, and we left really disappointed. Thanks for the experience (!)

What happened to the taste and portion size? It changed a lot since I visited last time. New ownership? I wouldn’t return next time so much disappointment. There are many other good indonesian restaurants in nyc

Went here since it was on our list for a bit. And honestly, haven’t been this disappointed by a restaurant in a while. We got the satays, ribs, lobster noodles, couple of cocktails - all tasted very subpar except for the chicken satay, which isn’t very hard to get right. The ribs were dry and unflavorful, the drinks were not good at all, the lobster noodles tasted like heavy black pepper. And the prices were high for what you get. Had a really uncomfortable experience on top of the food. I was seated by a large plant that was oddly placed, and twice it fell on us while dining (nearly avoiding toppling over drinks and food). Service was pretty rushed, we saw at least one table getting no attention as diners came in, and as a result of this, one of the waiters dropped the plate of noodles on my partner. I don’t recommend eating here and definitely not worth how much we paid for the food/experience.
