Fantastic, classic diner. Wow!!
Great local diner for breakfast, lunch, and pie, wash down with a tasty cup of coffee
The best all around food . I love their breakfast lunch doesn't matter they are good and so is the food.
Food is always delicious. Quick & prompt service. I stop by for breakfast whenever I'm in the area.
Love their breakfast meal and u can get it at lunchtime too...... friendly people all of them....like family.... regular customers always asks how they if they r doing ok....
Great pancakes and coffee! And staff is super friendly!
Very attentive, great food..loved the place!..been going there for over 2 decades
Hands down best staff! Old new york style everything. Community staple. Great prices. Fast service. Nice setting.
I been coming to zafis since I was a kid & I still go to this date. The Best spot to go eat with your family or alone. The staff are very friendly & a great spot to drink your coffee & relax🙏🏼
Excellent service, super clean restaurant, everyone is polite. Best breakfast on the Lower East Side. Lunch menu is awesome, oh they have the best coffee in all of Manhattan.
I love their breakfast but only when I Eat in they serve it fresh. If you order take out, expect your homefries to be a few days old. Seriously!
I always order from here. Sometimes breakfast, lunch or dinner. Great prices and even the delivery guys are very nice. Food is very good and trust me I order a lot lol Great staple in the community.
The luncheonette gives me 'the old time feeling.' It's a neighborhood spot. Love it!
This place is really good. I’ve been going here since I first moved to the LES. My kids and I love going here and they are very welcoming.
I remember eating there ever Saturday morning with my dad until we moved to Florida. Every time I go back, it's just as good as it was before. I love Zafis!!!!
OG LES Greek Diner. Large portions, relatively good value eats. Recommend breakfast food. Go in-person to experience some local NYC ambiance
Walked in on a whim, very welcoming staff, they put the NY Jets game on upon request, food was prompt and the employees looked like they were having a good time.
Great service, friendly atmosphere. Great diner for catching up with friends on weekend mornings! I would go back any day.
Great diner. Get there early and have there scramble eggs with home fries. There lunch specials are the best kept secret in the city.
Solid LES diner. Piping hot, fresh ingredients, made to order at an affordable price. Go there often with friends and thank me later.
An amazing breakfast experience. Super fast and very focused on details and giving all client a warm welcome.
Awesome Owner and The food is Great.Ive been Comming here for Years! Thank You all The Time!
I love this vintage coffee shop. The food, staff and cozy environment. It is a small but comfortable, setting. It feels like home. Everyone should come by with time to relax and feel appreciated.
I enjoy this little place. the food is good. the price is reasonable. the more you come, the more they get to know you. it's like cheer's where everybody knows your name & they're always glad you came.
You cannot go wrong with this place, best diner left in NYC. Amazing prices, good food, great staff. Any complaints about this place are nonsense. Did I mention amazing prices? Will be going back for breakfast often.
Chocolate chip pancakes were great!
Zafis is a good place to order food from, especially if your loved one doesn't feel to cook Breakfast or Lunch. That's when Zafis comes into action, smiling... ✌️😉 I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who prefers a good meal w/Friends, Love ones & Family Members. They earn a Five Star ⭐'s From me, Wink!✌️😉 Keep up the good Service Zafis. Finest Diner on the Lowa East Side..👏☺️
A classic luncheonette. Was working in NYC for 3 weeks, found this joint on day 2. It was our lunch spot every day after that. Killer rueben. Great daily soups. Get the Yankee Bean if they have it the day you visit.
Classic spot, amazing prices, anyone who is working is always so nice. I love coming here before I go to Trader Joe’s
Very yummy breafast platters for under 10 bucks. Very clean and welcoming atmosphere. You can not beat the prices for the quantity of food they give you but in order to get coffee included in your meal you must eat in. The food was quickly prepared and very tasty. I ordered 2 scrambed eggs w/cheese, 3 strips bacon, breakfast potatoes, and rye bread toasted and buttered (to go) for under 10 bucks! This will definitely be a new spot for me plus I am new to the nieghborhood. Now I need to try the lunch and dinner options :) Don't listen to the negative reviews very misleading (rolling eyes).
Cozy place, great service, very friendly people, great food. Athens girl, went there with my husband around Thanksgiving last year. I'll miss this place !
Amazing little hidden gem with attentive and efficient service. Food is exactly what you want. Simple, tasty and quality. Their bagels are to die for! We will be back!
Loved the classic look and feel I this place. The staff were friendly. Ordered breakfast and it was delicious. Will definitely be returning soon!
In many ways it’s “just a diner” but the service is SO friendly and the food is a lot more flavorful than “just a diner”. Prices also quite reasonable too.
Zafis is a old school neighborhood diner that has great options for any meal it's like walking in a frozen time zone because for decades I have gone there and it's so warm and comfortable because of the staff and the owners which have been the same family they always make you feel welcomed and special the food is very good a classic place.
Must be a secret kept by locals cause the food was fast an amazing The staff was friendly. Cute little nyc dinner 5 stars
Just what we expected from a local owned food place. They take pride of their service. Really good pancakes. And super reasonable!
I come here everyday for breakfast and the food is beyond delicious and super affordable. The staff very quickly treats you like a friend.
I really love this hidden gem! Countertop diner feel with an amazingly friendly staff and some incredible food! You can tell the chefs have put together a delicious menu and have taught their cooks how to execute them perfectly. I have gotten the chicken wrap and the turkey wrap which is my absolute favorite and always comes out cooked to perfection. They use fresh ingredients and a whole lot of TLC. Can't say enough good thinks about the people who I've met who work there. Willy always has a smile and is always so nice to everyone he interacts with. And I've seen the owner on the grill and everyone who walks in is treated like family. Definitely make this place your go-to lunch spot! They close at 5 most days! Only negative thing I could say is that it may seem a little pricey, as some things don't come with sides, but it's well worth the price as everything I've gotten has been really filling and worth the price.
This is a great spot to pick up some good food. Service is usually fast, everyone in the diner is nice. Have been here about six times in the last year; had everything from burgers to the chicken sandwich (it was great). Breakfast is usually very busy so be patient. I once received the wrong coffee and the counter man replaced it immediately. Even gave me a larger size. Never had a bad experience
Cute spot. Friendly staff. Will gladly come back again next time I'm in the area.
I love the environment, very friendly staff and always full of locals. Breakfast is very good and at decent prices, the sandwiches are also good but many niche dishes are a bit pricey. Milkshakes are exceptional as well. Definitely my favorite place for breakfast in the area.
I've only been twice, but both times I thought the food was a lot better than I expected. I almost always get breakfast food at diners, and they've got some solid breakfast specials. The eggs were especially good. Service and food prep have been fast both times I've been. All that combined ensures I'll be back.
Fantastic diner with counter service and table seating. We tried eggs, home fries, and pancakes. The pancakes tasted like they're made from scratch, not mix. The coffee is flavorful, hot and frequently refilled. The atmosphere is cozy and quiet.
Great breakfast spot. They're known for their pancakes and they were delicious! I also had a vanilla milkshake and my friend had coffee. Prices were spot on and amazing customer service. Will def return.
I get delivery’s and I love their Lamb Chop's they are always nice and tender and very tasteful, their food on a whole is very good!!
Diners like Zafis are an endangered species in the NYC environment. They must be protected. Is there anything better than an unpretentious diner serving solid standards with warm, longtime staff working hard to serve regulars and strays like myself? We do not need another $24 3/4 serving size interpretation of breakfast staples, thank you very much! We need more places where you can go and linger and there isn’t a line of people waiting to instagram their plate in your seat. Long live Zafis!
I've been coming to this family owned restaurant for 30 years. Always top notch service with great food and prices.
It's one of the first Diners in the lower east side been going there since a kid. It's right across the street from my public school. On original mom and pop shop, I believe they're Greek and they also live in the neighborhood. Know the family as well. Les history real talk
A classic breakfast-and-lunch joint. Update Aug, 2025: just had steak and scrambled eggs w home fries. Generous piece of steak. Just-right scrambled eggs. Home fries seasoned perfectly. Real slice-of- neighborhood place: Families, seniors, cops, sanitation men. Fast efficient service. Great place for a before-work or weekend breakfast. Basic fare well prepared. Recent renovations are snazzy but the place did lose some of it's classic nyc charm. Same great staff and food though.
We saw this spot featured on instagram “Diners, Diners, and Diners” and knew we had to give it a try—and it did not disappoint. We had classic egg breakfasts, and everything was delicious. Loved the cozy vibe sitting at the counter. We’ll definitely be coming back!
A great little spot if you’re in Manhattan and looking for something classic and low-key. It’s not trying to be fancy — and that’s exactly the charm. Old-school diner vibes, cozy and unpretentious, with a friendly team and a few locals clearly on a first-name basis. We had eggs with potatoes and bacon, a pastrami sandwich, and French toast — everything was tasty and satisfying. If you’re in the mood for a relaxed, no-frills breakfast or lunch, this place delivers exactly what it promises. We’ll be back for sure.
We had such a lovely experience at Zafis Luncheonette! The French toast was absolutely delicious — perfectly golden, fluffy, and just the right amount of sweet. The coffee was rich and flavorful, a perfect match for our breakfast. What really made the visit special, though, was the warm and welcoming atmosphere. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, and the people around us added to the cozy, laid-back vibe. It felt like a true neighborhood gem. Can’t wait to come back!
I first stopped by here for lunch and grabbed the Bushman sandwich to go. It was absolutely delicious, with a generous portion size for the price and fantastic flavor overall. I enjoyed it so much that I came back last week to try their breakfast. The bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich was one of the best I’ve had in ages—perfectly cooked egg, crispy (but not dry) bacon, and fresh bread. This is a fantastic spot with friendly staff, a real gem for the area!
Originally stopped in here for lunch. I got the bushman sandwich to go. Absolutely delicious. Very well sized portion for the price and just flavorful overall. I ended up stopping back in for breakfast last week. One of the better bacon egg and cheese sandwichs I've had in a long time. Perfectly fried egg, crispy but not dry bacon, and fresh bread. Great luncheonette with great staff, a good find for the area.
Great service! Waitress was courteous, attentive and friendly. Restaurant was clean. Food was average on the other hand.
Delicious breakfast and super cheap! This location is pretty much a staple in the neighborhood. Service is actually super fast even when they're packed!
Great food but atmosphere is a hit or miss, always try to get delivery
Neighbor good spot. Don't expect too much here. Been here forever. Stay basic, meaning eggs, meat and potatoes...and you are good to go!
The cleanest Luncheonette and good treatment. Great eggcreams and Cherry Lyme Rickies. I love eggplant parm & BLT and corned beef and cantaloupe cottage cheese Greek salad. Friendly nice place. ENJOY! Mike &.Gerry
Can't say enough about it came as a kid. now visit to eat was still great food on the spot breakfast was on point check them out if your on the l.e.s.
A genuine coffee shop style diner with a counter. Definitely worth supporting
Zafis has been around the lower East side for at least 30 years. They offer classic diner choices, from egg, pancake and French toast selections, to Brisket and roast turkey sandwiches and platters, with delicious gravy to go with it. Daily soup specials (the spilt pea or chicken rice or matzo ball soups are delicious)! The hamburgers are always done as asked and the service is quick. They even have diner specials and if you are a meatloaf fan, you have to try their spin on it. It's really good. They also offer wraps of many varieties. Service is Always quick and friendly and staff is very attentive. They are a bit pricey, but as my mother once told me....you get what you pay for! Also, the place, including the restrooms, are always very clean.
This place serves good food however they charge you for a refill the same price as the first drink. A $3 drink is costing you $6 bucks for a small glass lol
Decent food “sometimes” the owner of place yells on the other phone when you’re trying to place your order. I find it annoying because the person my order has too ask more than once about the order. It’s one thing to speak lower but when you speak to the point of shouting is the better term I will use that’s not cool.
Decent comfort food. Prices are okay and staff is friendly and professional. I would recommend replacing the vent in the kitchen. I left smelling like french fries.
Very surprised that the egg sandwich price was reasonable but ended up costing way more. I got an iced coffee and 2 egg on a roll with avocado and it was , (of course they charged extra for ‘charge’ but I actually paid cash), $12.35. I live in Hell’s Kitchen and I’m certain the same thing would have been at least $4. less. I wonder if they charged me more because they looked at me as ‘not local’.
My sister recommended we walk over this morning and order breakfast. We walked over and upon walking in, the girl at the front who was taking orders looked at us and walked away She would not make eye contact with us and was moving as if we weren't there. No hello, no please give me a second, nothing. After us waiting about 10 minutes and her greeting and seating other people who came in after us, a guy from the back came to take our orders. However, he got called to the back and didn't finish taking mine. He said he would be right back but after about 8 minutes he wasn't back. The girl, who had been avoiding the front came by so my sister says "Excuse me, do you think we could finish ordering with you?" She rolled her eyes at my sister and kept walking. We had to wait for the gentleman to come back to finish ordering. I don't know what the issue was, and why she decided we weren't worthy of being served, but it left me very uncomfortable. And after the guy was done taking our orders, we watched as she started taking orders at the front again, smiling and talking with customers. The only difference between us and the other patrons is that we were the only black people there. She was so smiley and friendly to others but acted as if we simply didn't exist and when my sister spoke to her she acted as if we inconvenienced her by even speaking to her. We placed 4 orders and each order was almost $30. But even if we were only coming in to buy 1 slice of toast, we shouldn't have been treated that way. The food was decent but I'll never be back. The 2 stars are for the guy who saw us being ignored and came from the back to take our orders, and apologized.
Food is pure garbage..... No body behind the cash register takes thr job seriously. They don't know how to make good food. It has no taste.
They got my whole order wrong when I ordered pepper steak. The mash potatoes had literally no seasoning within it and there’s no public bathroom for you to use. Wouldn’t not recommend
Asked for set breakfast menu, waitress kept asking if I wanted additional items, I kept saying ‘just whats on the set menu’, when bill came, additional items… when questioned she said ‘thats what you ordered’… wasn’t very helpful and ended up paying 50% more than I thought I would…
I used to order breakfast delivery every other day for almost 10 years. The one time I step inside the place. All employees ignored me and left me standing there. They were just sitting/talking.... Very rude. Don't spend your money here if your black. Y'all are very unprofessional. "First of all".... Don't go to this black unless your white or Hispanic
Absolutely worst ham egg and cheese on a roll I've ever tried to eat. Tasted like it was microwaved as the bread was chewy and rubbery. Otherwise, completely flavorless. I threw it away.
Spoiled rice pudding. I'm a native New Yorker and have been eating diner rice pudding for 6 decades. This is the first time anyone has sold me prepackaged, spoiled, rancid rice pudding. I'm never going back
I will never order from here again. My steak was dry and cold! The mashed potatoes were literally just that. Potatoes. Mashed. No seasoning at all. Even a touch of salt would have went a long way. The green beans were so underwhelming and again no seasoning, they just cracked open the can and WHAP! No utensils No napkins. My expectations deflated faster than a pin to a balloon.
I do deliveries with uber, I do not know if he is the owner but a person responded to me in an aggressive way yesterday, I deserve respect and be treated well. You can not treat me differently than a client who comes to eat at your restaurant. Be kind to the couriers. Thanks.
I was there on 4/22'16, I ordered a egg white/turkey /spinach wrap and a small coffee. It was ok, service was okay. When I saw the bill $13.50 , that's right $13.50. I could not believe it, I am LES born and raised and I work in the east village so I am used to paying a bit more for stuff. Unfortunately I am not the type to question things. I would like to know why it was that expensive, I just paid $5.50 for the same thing at Westside market 3rd Ave & 11th st. Never again Zafis
The food is so sub par. They are making everything with eh cheapest ingredients. Their pancakes and waffles tasted like rubber. Not enjoyable at all. They don't even try to be healthier. Big disapointment.
For the second time in a row, the service was deplorable. No menu, never came back to our table to see if we needed anything. I mean this is waiter 101 stuff. Very disappointed. Don’t think we’ll be returning.
My family and I use to love coming here to eat. Today my husband ordered us breakfast. Ordered home fries with eggs&sausages. They got the order completely wrong and gave us French fries. Then complained about us complaining about the mistake that they made! Yeah real unprofessional! The food was bland, FLAVORLESS, especially the eggs and the sausages were burnt! Nothing tasted good!! I bet a toddler could have made a better breakfast. My family and I won't be returning because this is not where it's at! Poor quality food and bad customer service! Don't waste your time or money going here!
not the same menu - must be new owners who need money
First and last time coming to this place. Food is tasteless, no flavor at all. And the service is ridiculous. There is a Spanish old man in there who is pretty rude to his customer. He gets really defensive real quick. They will serve everyone else and leave you last. I spent my whole entire break there couldn’t eat a single thing. I should’ve read the reviews first.
We went there for lunch, the service was horrible. There was a female behind the counter putting rolls in a large see through plastic bag without gloves. My lunch was tasteless, no one asked how was the meal. A group of them were congregated by the section where they put the dirty dishes. The table in front of us was dirty. I didn't eat much, we paid with a card and left no tip. They didn't deserve it. Next time take good care of your customers especially us since we're big tippers. If i could post pictures I would!!
Interior design: 2/10 Customer service: 1/10 Food: 0/10 (Not even kidding) Price: 8/10 To start off, stay away from this spot at all times. I checked other reviews before going here but was still hesitant to go. We ordered the breakfast special with extra eggs. I don't know if there is any word in the dictionary to describe how flavorless the foods were. Coffee tasted like water but colored, barely warm. Eggs had absolutely no seasoning including salt and black pepper. The potatoes, God knows what they made. The pancakes did not taste like pancakes and and the syrup had no smell of syrup nor did it have any flavor. Please like the review if it was helpful 😁
