Opiniones de Baroo Alhambra
When Baroo started out in a rundown strip mall, and then went to Union Swapmeet, it was already clear that it was something special. The food was so unfamiliar yet utterly delicious. The food is not innovative just for its own sake. That is still true, even though the experience of Baroo is now completely different. I can't wait to see what else we'll eat here. Please note that if you are looking at older photos they will be photos from the old location and the food now is quite different.
Celebrated getting married with dinner at Baroo. They made the night so special with complimentary sparkling makgeoli to start and ending with a handwritten congratulations note from the owners, Mina and Kwang. The table next to us also surprised us with a thoughtful gift of a bottle of makgeoli, as we learned they too were recent newly weds. What a special night. Thank you to the entire Baroo team and in particular our server, Christian, for being so gracious and heartwarming.
Baroo is a restaurant I've been dying to support... ever since @the_thejgold first reviewed them gloriously... but even more so for what they are doing for the Korean food cuisine as a whole. I easily convinced my brother's that Baroo would most definitely be awarded some elusive stars soooooon... and that we should go experience before things get crazier. They recently reopened in their current Location in the arts district of dtla. We did the tasting menu, each upgraded $12 for the short rib option for entree course, and added an order of the pork cheeks to share... and opted for the alcohol pairing which consisted of various makkolis, yaksul, rice wines and maeshil (plum) dessert wine to finish. The scallop course and the black cod were exceptional. Everything was amazing and had their different highlights flavor and texture wise. The dessert course was so playful and nostalgic... Definitely planning on bringing my mother here for a dinner date!
Warm welcome, elegantly presented and delicious Korean flavors in a six-course prix fixe meal. You can pair with Western wines or Korean spirits. Or mix and match. We really enjoyed our meal.
Wow! This place is very unique. The space is very unassuming (no external sign, strip mall location). The guys cooking will take a break to get your order, so you may wait. The food is crazy delicious. The non-traditional Bolognese pasta is my favorite of all time - including the many plates of the stuff I've eaten in Bologna.
Baroo truly exceeded expectations. The food was creative, beautifully balanced, and full of flavor! every dish felt thoughtful and unique. The service and attention were outstanding. the staff made sure we were taken care of from start to finish. You can really feel the care and passion behind everything. Definitely one of the best dining experiences in LA!
Went for my wife's birthday and had a tremendous time. The waiters were super attentive and the sommelier (I assume) offered great recommendations. The food was portioned well, timed great, and most importantly, tasted incredible. Finally, the vibes were immaculate, with great music in an intimate setting. Would definitely go again.
Overall a 4/5: Food 5/5 Great tasting menu. Every dish was fantastic! Got the upgrade to beef ribs, it was the one of the best of the entire menu. Service 5/5 Portion Size 2/5: Went hungry and wasn't full at the end of the meal. Had to go for tacos after. If you're expecting korean bbq kinda food, this is not your place. Worth trying but do note weekend reservations are gone pretty quickly so book in advance. They've only been open for 3-4 months so the menu hasn't changed yet, but I heard it will soon so I will definitely come again.
We been wanting to try Baroo as more and more higher end Korean restaurants have been popping up. The meal and service was fantastic! In full disclosure though, we weren't necessarily a big fan of the bean dish, but everything else was great. And for the price, this was an amazing tasting menu. The banana cocktail was surprisingly good! Worth ordering. We recently went to Vespertine and that meal was subpar in comparison to Baroo just because of how expensive Vespertine was. We are excited to see what Baroo does next.
Baroo, a small, unassuming restaurant in Los Angeles, is a culinary gem that offers a truly unique and extraordinary dining experience. From the moment you step inside, you'll be greeted with warm hospitality and welcoming smiles from the staff. The restaurant's minimalist decor, complete with clean lines and soft lighting, sets the tone for a delightfully intimate evening. One of the standout aspects of Baroo is its exceptional customer service. The staff is attentive, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic about the menu. They take the time to explain the dishes, offer recommendations, and ensure that every detail of your visit is tailored to your preferences. The servers are friendly and efficient, making sure your glass is always full and your plate is never empty. The restaurant's attention to detail begins with the creative menu, which features an array of innovative and globally inspired dishes. Each dish is carefully crafted to showcase unique flavors and ingredients, and the chefs are happy to accommodate any dietary restrictions or preferences. The menu is constantly evolving, ensuring that each visit offers a new and exciting experience. In addition to the exceptional food, Baroo also offers a carefully curated selection of natural wines and craft cocktails. The wine list features unique and lesser-known varietals from around the world, and the cocktails are expertly crafted with house-made ingredients and unique flavors. The restaurant's commitment to sustainability and locally sourced ingredients is also noteworthy. Baroo partners with local farmers and purveyors to ensure that the menu features the freshest and highest-quality ingredients while minimizing waste and supporting the local community. In conclusion, Baroo in Los Angeles is a truly exceptional dining experience that exceeds expectations
That feeling when you want to keep a local gem to yourself but also want to share with the world because they deserve all the success and recognition...! Baroo might just be the best restaurant in LA right now. Impeccable service, thoughtful pairings, imaginative menu, reasonable price point. It's been a looong time since I've been surprised by a restaurant and this team over delivered in every way 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 12/10. Taking all my friends here for the foreseeable future. Pro tip: sit at the counter to see the magic unfold. The kitchen staff is absolutely meticulous- it's like watching art in motion.
We had the tasting menu with Korean Sool Pairing and also the nonalcoholic pairing. The food was amazing. Had rich flavors and textures, each dish thoughtfully prepared. I especially enjoyed the “Dae” course (soy braised black cod) and the “Jeol” dessert course which was a peach sorbet. I was extremely full and didn’t think I had room for dessert, but the dessert was so good and refresh light I ended up finishing it. The Korean Sool Pairing was excellent and I would highly recommend it. It consisted of 5 kinds of Korean alcohols. The white lotus makgeoli was my favorite. The nonalcoholic pairing is excellent. It was variety of kombuchas and you definitely don’t feel like you’re missing out. The persimmon flavor was our favorite. The service was attentive and everyone was great. Nothing was amiss, but everyone was very formal, which made the experience feel slightly less warm(personable) maybe even a little awkward - but this is just personal preference. I would definitely go back!
Baroo in Los Angeles is truly a culinary gem that I am absolutely thrilled to see back in action. Even though they are softly opening and haven't introduced their soju-inspired cocktails yet, the experience remains unparalleled. Nestled right next to the iconic Hauser and Wirth in the heart of the arts district, its location could not be more fitting – a testament to the artistry that unfolds on every plate. Among the prix fixe 5-course, the delicate black cod stood out as a masterpiece, tantalizing the palate with its exquisite flavors and textures. While I do find myself reminiscing about their pickled/fermented items, I remain hopeful that these beloved classics will be reincorporated into their menu soon. Baroo's commitment to culinary innovation is evident in every bite, making it an essential destination in LA's dining scene. Highly recommended.
Just had a dinner with my husband for his birthday! Great experience and veggie options were great! While my partner had their normal menu, I opted for the vegetarian one. and they delivered!
SO WORTH IT! Impeccable service and food! We loved the taste testing experience; you just need to choose your protein. We went the short ribs and wagyu (both amazing btw) on our date night. And dont let the portions decieve you, we couldnt finish our food in the end. The handwritten note celebrating my wifes Bday was chefs kiss! No wonder they’re LA Times Restaurant of the Year. Took us almost a month to get a dinner reservation for table seating so plan ahead!
Spectacular dinner in a wonderful space. Baroo really is a must visit when in LA if you appreciate quality cooking and food. The tasting menu, while thoughtfully curated and detailed by individual members of the team for each course, left me feeling FULL (which is rare for a smaller tasting menu) and uuubeer satisfied. The wine bottle of German Riesling was an excellent accompaniment for the entire meal, and the cocktails were some of the better we had while in LA. The first course, which featured this soup like warmed pureé, was phenomenal. The cod was maybe the best, most perfectly executed fish dish I have ever had in a restaurant. The protein course, both the pork and beef were UNREAL. The attention to detail is unfathomable. Keep up the great work and I won’t be surprised when this place has 2 Michelins next to its entrance door.
Celebrated our anniversary at baroo and loved it -- the food was some of the most thoughtful I've had in a while in LA, the flavors and textures incredibly nuanced. The cocktails were innovative and delicious (still thinking about these). And the service! So nice. Kind, friendly, and personal (we were given a hand signed card and a tasting of makegeolli for our special occasion 🥹 so thoughtful and appreciated). Can't wait to come back.
This place is great. Fantastic service and really creative tasting menu. I've never seen seaweed used in so many interesting ways. I got the non alcoholic pairing which was solid but I would've liked to see more use of texture- adding in some oils or emulsions to keep things interesting.
Been to quite a few nice restaurants, and michellin star restaurants, local or overseas. Being Korean myself, I have a higher standards when it comes to Korean food. Start from the beginning, I had no issues with finding street parking, our reservation was for 18:30 for a family of four (my father's birthday). When you first walk into the restaurant, you were immediately greeted by a very welcoming hostess and guided to your table with personalized birthday message printed on the menu, and a table side basket for your jacket and bags. Your waitress who was highly educated on their menu and drink choices and very well-mannered and with big smile the whole time during service, walks you and your party of 4 throughout the dining experience, even giving us pause in between for us to translate things to our parents. Complementary champagne was great and a card at the end by the chef was also great. The food here isn't a KBBQ or a traditional Korean food, but a twisted and better modernized take on Korean food with stories. I'm pretty sure the menu changes with seasonal ingredients, what we had, we all enjoyed complimented with the great friendly service. 100% recommended, I honestly heard this place 10+ years ago from a friend, recommending them for their fermented ingredients, and I believe they used to be at a different and smaller location. I'm glad I finally came and really enjoyed this dining experience.
Lovely culinary experience, we simply were delighted by every dish on the tasting menu which is very rare. Lots of love, care and passion put into those dishes which you can feel throughout the experience. The service was in sync, the atmosphere urban sophisticated. I would definitely recommend and go back myself!
I’ve been other fine dining Korean and normally disappointed since they try to make normal Korean dishes “elevated” when the traditional shouldn’t be changed. In my opinion Baroo did a great job of creating a fine dining experience with subtle korean flavours but not replicating or imitating the traditional Korean dishes. This avoided any comparisons and ultimately any disappointment. Beyond the great food the service was one of the best and we loved the atmosphere of the restaurant. Not pretentious while being refined. Looking forward to going back.
It ain't cheap, but the menu was excellent. They did a great job modifying the menu for my Pescatarian kid as well. They may have rated it as their favorite tasting menu of all time. I do with they had some other beer options, like maybe an Asian IPA option, but alas. Outside that minimal complaint, it was fantastic.
What an absolutely incredible experience. This was the best meal I’ve had in LA. It was creative, beautifully served and of course delicious. All the personal touches for our anniversary really tipped it over the edge! A custom menu, a hand written card… so thoughtful!
If you need a place for an anniversary, birthday, or just treating yourself this was it. Beautiful atmosphere, service was impeccable and all the staff were super kind and attentive, every dish had such unique flavor combinations and was beyond delicious, and the Korean sool pairing matched really well with each course. And if you don’t drink their teas were also fantastic, I loved the white lotus tea!
Interesting, creatively done! I just think that some of the dishes had really strong flavor/spices making it overpowering/salty. But that’s just my personal preference!
Didn’t disappoint. Most dishes featured some interesting form of in house fermentation. Everything was seasoned perfectly. They’re really good at constructing interesting sauces here that feature ingredients which may be less familiar, and yet still achieve a feeling of nostalgia. Amazing food.
I’ve never had Korean food like this. The flavors are so well balanced and delicious. Great service. $125 for 7 courses.
Second time visiting here! Baroo is my fav Korean fine dining restaurant in LA! Came here with my family for our celebration of graduation. I was pleasantly surprised that they slightly changed some tasting menu and drinks since my last visit. Loved their Monkey Business! Very smooth yet yummy makgeoli (Korean rice wine)! Tosung was so-so for me but still liked their refreshness. In terms of tasting menu, 7 courses were great and filled my tummy! My fav dishes were black cod, rice, and dessert!! I liked how the staff stayed attentive and wiped the table after every dish. They also provided us small drinks of makgeoli to help celebrate. If you have any special occasion to celebrate in LA, Baroo is a perfect place to do! Their dishes are delicate and delicious! Reservation is required. You can park at the public garage next to the restaurant (you will get a code for small discount so make sure to choose “restaurant” option when you are paying at the ticket machine). Look forward to visiting here again in the future! :)
After visiting Baroo with my family last year, I returned for a second visit this time with my colleagues for a dinner. While the previous meal was excellent, this dinner felt even more refined, with a greater sense of balance in the overall dishes. The wine list was reasonably priced, and the wines recommended were great. Among the dishes, the Soy-Braised Cod stood out as the most impressive, and the Short-Rib as the best of the main courses. Additionally, the fried lobster was also a memorable highlight. If there's a good spot available, I would definitely visit again.
Lovely family dinner at Baroo tonight! Service was warm, and pacing was excellent. My parents enjoyed the experience and also enjoyed the unique spin on traditional Korean foods! It was a memorable way to celebrate my father's 88th birthday!
Just stepped out of an incredible experience at Baroo! The details from the story of the menu, the rare & delicate ingredients, and the dedicated & talented team behind it all… Will be back for more. Thank you Baroo xx
Our dinner was an exploration of modern, delicate, delicious Korean food. The meal was comprised of six courses progressing from small, delicate bites like a celeriac puree topped with preserved apple foam to hay-smoked amberjack. His undeniable favourite course was also the most eye-catching; the short rib ssam. We split the pork collar and short rib ssam so that we could try both. The rice that paired with the dishes was out of this world. My favourite was either the soy-braised black cod or the hay-smoked amberjack. Definitely new perspective on Korean food for both of us.
Perfect service — loved it! Every staff member here is so friendly and professional! The food was great, especially the sauces and every entrée! The dessert wasn’t really our favorite, but it was still pretty good.
Fantastic experience and well worth the hype, and would recommend to anyone interested in a higher end Korean food experience. Everything was done with so much intention, and it was cool to see the flavors and dishes that are familiar elevated to a different level. Stand outs were the cod, the seaweed rice, and the lobster doenjang, and the bingsoo dessert was so well executed Would highly recommend getting the Bam cocktail as well. Overall the experience wasn't as expensive as other tasting menus and still had the same level of care and attention.

The service here was so good. Probably one of the best wine pairings I've had in LA. It was a nice mix or traditional and exciting wines. Always a sign of a good som when you love a wine so much you go buy it. Even better when the bottle is around 12 euros. I'm buying 5 and picking up from my friend in Germany one day. I did the tasting in meat and the vegetarian. Both were exceptional, but the vegetarian was truly special. This really is the type of food you can't get in many places. No dish stood out, which is again, a great sign. The whole menu was extremely cohesive, and all flavors complimented the one that came before and after. Can't wait to eat here again.
Baroo offers a truly unique dining experience that feels thoughtful and creative from start to finish. Every dish is beautifully presented and packed with flavor. The ingredients feel carefully sourced, and the menu changes keep things interesting. The atmosphere is calm and intimate, making it perfect for a special night out or a memorable meal with friends.
Genuinely, one of the best meals of my life. Everything that came out was exceptional. Our server, Keahnah, was so attentive and thoughtful, and made us feel so special. My favorite dish by far was "a lotus flower in mud," but truly the whole thing was fabulous. I highly recommend the sool pairing – the drinks were interesting, complex, and refreshing. My only note was that the dessert fell a little flat, which is a shame after such a special meal. I will absolutely be back!!!

Amazing flavors. Usually, I am wary of "fusion" or "spins" on Korean food, but Baroo well exceeded all expectations. To boot, the chefs are so nice (and guessed that I was a traveling consultant. Not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing, but gotta give them props regardless)!Shhh... don't tell anyone about this spot. It's pretty hard to discover and that adds more thrill to tasting great fusion food. A friend of mine introduced me to this place and I keep bringing my friends here when they cannot decide on their cravings. So far none has been disappointed. Baroo adds little "organic" twist to traditional Korean food and the whole experience can be compared to dinning at some Michelin level with grandma backyard atmosphere. As you know coming to a great level restaurant is all about tasting, so portion size can disappoint you if you come for traditional comfort style Korean food. They also lack some silverware, fine china, private table neat and grittiness but that's the beauty of it. They only have a variety of 9 or so dishes to choose from but each one is a masterpiece on its own, with some unusual combinations and ingredients. Friendly for concerned about eating healthy super-foodies. Most ingredients are naturally produced, fermented and locally grown. Love love love the house - brewed kombucha as well as little bites desserts. Great place to impress your friends!
The restaurant has a great ambiance, and the drinks were excellent. We visited on a Wednesday night, and despite having a reservation for 8:15 PM, we still waited for almost 30 minutes, which was a bit frustrating. I’d recommend keeping this in mind if you plan to visit. We ordered two drinks: Tepache and Maesil. I’d highly recommend Tepache as it’s more refreshing, with delightful orange notes and a hint of yuzu flavor, making it truly unique. As for the food, the scallops were delicious, though my wife found them a bit on the salty side. The lobster was crispy and flavorful, while the black cod was exceptionally tender. The sauce paired beautifully with the black cod, adding depth and complexity to the dish. Overall, it was an enjoyable dining experience, but the service could improve in terms of efficiency.
I was prepared to be blown away based on the reviews, but left underwhelmed, unsatisfied, and hungry. Spoiler alert, I went to K-town for a second dinner with Kbbq. Was I proud of this decision? No. Did it make me happy? Hell yes. The space and table setting at Baroo were beautiful, which fed into my initial high expectation. But as soon as the first course entered my mouth, I felt confused. The foam and chip combo was exactly what they were—slightly flavored air. Okay, I thought. This is representative of a ghost, waiting to incarnate into something more substantial, I reassured myself. Things will get better. The second course was barely the size of a thumbnail, with more texture this time but equally flat flavored. Lobster was good, but the bisque with beans was confusing again. Tasted like beans in water. I didn’t continue doing what the server suggested which is to alternate between the lightly fried lobster and the beans in water. I finished the beans asap and tried to end with two solid bites of tiny lobster meat to find some solace. At this point I was getting hungrier than when I started. Fortunately, the scallop and cod really stood out. Simple and fresh ingredients with distinct flavor profiles. 10/10 winner. If I could, I’d just order those two dishes, in full size, and call it a day. Then the main courses, pork collar and beef short rib, came along with the rice. They were decent, but nothing more. Finally, the dessert had me questioning my life, and the health of my teeth. It was like I fell face down mouth open on a pile of snow and a pinch of dirt. It was so cold and flavorless. If I managed to build up a tiny flame of hope with the killer scallop and cod dishes, it got distinguished and sent to Arendelle by Polar Express. Buried, is I guess how I was supposed to feel with 绝. Besides the food, the service was very well-choreographed to the point that it lacks personal touch. Our server spilled the wine on first try, albeit salvaged it in the subsequent attempts. Any questions we had, whether about the menu or the servers personal favorite, was met by a polite and short answer. They almost want to exit the conversation as swiftly as possible. I get it, they were not trained to hold conversations with the customers, but there to dance their part and ensure the least interruption. All this yapping is just to say, I didn’t like the food. And I go to restaurants to enjoy the food. Baroo isn’t doing it for me. But, to each their own. :)
Baroo sets out to offer a modern upscale twist on Korean food. As much as I wanted to like it I was really disappointed. The new location is great and the overall environment and interior design is well thought out. Tableware and utensils are all well coordinated. Each dish was beautifully presented. Clearly a lot of thought went in to each course and plating was pretty impressive at this price point. Everything was cooked perfectly but unfortunately the flavor was really lacking and overall just felt generic culminating in a desert that was virtually tasteless. Outside of the cocktail menu which featured unique options incorporating soju and makgeolli, I probably wouldn't have guessed it was a Korean restaurant at all. Service was friendly but pretty overbearing. Staff constantly asked how we were how each course was. Given how beautiful each dish was the rushed table service didn't do it justice. Overall an underwhelming experience. Even for a tasting menu it felt like an interently poor value.
The restaurant is presented on its website as Modern Korean Restaurant, so my expectations were quiet high. Unfortunately, the dishes lacked authentic Korean flavors, and the tasting menu showed little harmony in ingredients and unclear inspiration. The portions were also too small to fully enjoy. Overall, while the presentation was appealing, the taste did not live up to the promise, and the $125 set menu felt disappointing for the price.
